Lotus is set to build the fastest and most powerful production car in Britain, a feat that McLaren, Bentley, and Aston Martin are also hard at work on. In an Auto Express interview, Lotus chief technical officer Wolf Zimmermann talked about plans to make a flagship Superleggera version of the next-generation Esprit.
The top officials of Lotus held the meeting to give more information about the New Era plan, which unveiled five new cars in June 2010 that it aims to launch in five years.
Lotus also talked about plans to produce a 2+2 Elite, the four-door Eterne, the Elise Evolution, and a city car named Ethos (which is a competitor to the Aston Martin Cygnet). Lotus also gave details about the next Elan, which will be placed on hold until 2017, when it replaces the Evora.Read the entire article Lotus planning to build a Superleggera version of the new Esprit

Many had wished that a Lamborghini Huracán Superleggera would somehow make a surprise debut at the recently held Paris Motor Show. Sadly, not a single Lamborghini appeared anywhere in sight. Much to everyone’s dismay, we are still hoping to see one in the next several months or probably at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show in March. While waiting for this to happen, allow us to share what we just found out.
Though there are no official announcements (yet) regarding the launching of a Lamborghini Huracán Superleggera, we are quite positive that things are likely heading this way. The spy pictures are literally everywhere. Only recently, the Italian automaker has also filed for a trademark in Europe and is probably for the new Lamborghini Huracán Performante. Although the trademark description has not been disclosed, the filing was placed under paper goods, toys, clothing, electronics and vehicles.
What we have at the moment are pictures of the Gallardo Spyder Performante, which we think will look brilliant if Lamborghini will come up with a possible combination of Spyder and Superleggera for the same. If the recently trademarked vehicle will follow Gallardo’s footprint, it would definitely be an awesome combination, don’t you think?Read the entire article Lamborghini trademarks the Huracan Performante, might just be the Superleggera Spyder
When Dany Bahar was the chief executive of Lotus, the British manufacturer built several concept cars but none of them reached production. Back in 2012, Dany Bahar was fired by Lotus’ new Malaysian owners DRB-Hicom and now the company is on an ongoing product renewal process in order to boost its sales.
During the launch of the 2014 Lotus Exige S Roadster in Australia, Alastair Manihera a.k.a. the brand manager for Lotus Australia and New Zeeland told the reporters that the company didn’t give up on the stalled Esprit V8 supercar project. Shown back in 2010 at the Paris Motor Show, the Esprit Concept was close to see the daylight, but the new owner halted all work on the progression, despite the fact that customers wanted such a car.
In its concept form, the Lotus Esprit was powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine that generated 620 hp and 720 Nm of torque. With this engine, Lotus said that the Esprit sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.4 seconds and has a top speed of 205 mph or 330 km/h. The engine was bolted to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, while the power was delivered to the road through the rear wheels.Read the entire article Lotus Esprit V8 still has chances to be produced
Set to debut in spring 2013, the new Lotus Esprit comes with a price tag of around GBP110,000 ($173,000). To everyone’s surprise, Lotus introduced the 2013 Esprit Concept at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show. Paying homage to the legendary Esprit, the new car has the potential to be the ultimate supercar.
The new Esprit will be fitted with an optional KERS hybrid technology found on the Formula 1 cars. It weighs 1,450 kg and is a potential rival for many supercars available on the market.
The Esprit, paired to a 7-speed DCT, has a powerful 5.0-liter V8 engine and can deliver up to 620 hp and 720 Nm of torque, making it capable of achieving a sprint of 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.4 seconds and hitting a maximum speed of 330 km or 205 mph.Read the entire article 2010 LA Auto Show: Lotus Esprit Concept is an amazing sports car
The Lotus from James Bond's The Spy Who Loved Me was sold for £111,500 ($162,825 or €128,415) at an auction in London. The white-colored 1976 Lotus Esprit was acquired by a private American collector who was giving his bids over the phone at the sale in Bonhams.
The collector depicted himself as a Lotus and James Bond enthusiast and said the car would be conveyed to Atlanta, Georgia.
The vehicle is one of two Lotus cars driven by Roger Moore in the 1977 Bond movie, which transformed into an amphibious car when it landed on the sea during a chase. A spokesperson from Bonhams said: "We are delighted with the result and delighted that it attracted worldwide attention."Read the entire article 1976 Lotus Esprit from James Bond’s movie sold for $162,825
On the other hand, the Esprit'sproduction is contingent on the profitability of the Evora and a likely external funding. In spite of this fact, Lotus engineers are still targeting a 2012 introduction schedule.
The model will be a longer, wider variant of the new Evora with a V8 powerplant mounted in the middle. Also planned for 2012 is an Evora Convertible, which will be a two-seater and may come with a different badge when it hits the market.
It is known that the engineering and production systems of Lotus are flexible enough to permit a late decision in the order in which the Esprit or Evora Convertible reaches dealership.Read the entire article Lotus Esprit coming in 2012
Lotus is believed to have approved a proposal to build a replacement for the Esprit, a model that is slated to have an essential role in boosting the Hethel firm's brand image.
Gradually, reports are coming out about the key elements to the Lotus strategy weeks before new CEO Danny Bahr is scheduled to announce his seven-year plan for the company.
According to the Lotus source, the new supercar would be an essential brand image builder and a high-status purchase. The car is referred to as Esprit internally, but it's possible that it would be given a different name.Read the entire article Lotus green lights the replacement for the Esprit
There are speculations stating that the V10 powerplant that delivers up to 500 bhp of output can be the source of power for the Lotus Esprit, which will be released in 2012. The engine is currently being used in the Lexus LF-A, a car that has not yet been launched itself. Being connected with the Japanese carmaker Toyota, Lotus has access to its entire range of parts and components, as well as powerplants from the Lexus line.
This points to the likelihood of an Esprit flagship, costing more than £100,000, equipped with the compact 8,500 rpm V10 unit (to rival the Lamborghini Gallardo), including a less expensive variant equipped with the 5.0-liter, 417 bhp V8 mill from the Lexus IS-F and an entry-level model coming with a Lotus-tuned direct-injection Toyota V6 unit that can come up with 300 bhp.
Although a V8 engine or a V10 unit would definitely boost the profile of Lotus, there is also a possibility of an Eco Esprit. Lotus is moving forwards with more efficient products with lightweight engineering and its keen interest in alternative fuels and hybrid solutions.Read the entire article Upcoming Lotus Esprit to feature V10 engine used by Lexus LFA
A source revealed that the next-generation Lotus Esprit supercar could be powered by the 552hp Lexus LFA V10. Complete details will be announced during the 2010 Paris Auto Show next month. The Esprit in its ultimate form will be showcased; however, the more mainstream version would be available with a V8, which is believed to be sourced from Lexus.
This engine is likely to be a version of the 416-hp 5.0-liter engine that influences the shift upmarket for the sports-car maker. If this significant new strategy works, we have CEO Dany Bahar to thank as this was his creation.
More details will be revealed in Paris but it becomes apparent now that Bahar and his new management team (including Bob Lutz as a consultant) have come to the conclusion that Lotus is underexploited as a brand and that to be profitable, it will have to produce cars that have larger margins.Read the entire article Rumor: New Lotus Esprit to use Lexus LFA’s V10 engine
Lamborghini has introduced the Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera at the Geneva Motor Show, which would cause jaws to hit the ground once you hear of its amazing abilities.

This gives it the record of being the lightest road creature in Lambo's current range. The engine generates 10hp more to 570hp, giving the hypercar a weight to power ratio of 2.35 kilograms per hp.Read the entire article 2010 Geneva Motor Show: Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera
