New Alpine sports car will take on Alfa Romeo 4C, Lotus Evora

Renault chief Carlos Tavares is confident that the new Alpine sports car can compete with models such as Alfa 4C and Lotus Evora during its launch. But he warned that it will be too much for the company to instantly produce a rival to the Porsche Cayman. He said that it’s too “arrogant” to claim that it will win if it goes head-to-head with Porsche.

However, he thinks that Lotus and Alfa are “realistic targets.” Tavares said, according to Autocar, that Caterham and Alpine staff are intentionally given enough freedom to independently operate to guarantee that the creation of the co-developed sports car is not hampered.

Tavares said that the projects have some commonality between the projects but that they’re intent on giving freedom to both sides to express themselves. The two cars have to stand on their own merits. However, there may be some sharing of parts. Tavares also said that the A110 design was praised since it used existing parts.

Alfa Romeo will add 2 new models to its lineup: a Giulietta successor and a new 4C

Alfa Romeo has been working on revitalizing its product portfolio, beginning with the Giulia and the Stelvio. Other than those two, the Italian automaker also has plans on adding a larger crossover in the lineup too, but what will that be? Well, if our sources are reliable, the automaker was said to be looking into two new vehicles, namely the 4C and another model that will be the successor of the Giulietta.

Roberto Fedeli, Alfa Romeo’s chief technical officer told Auto Express, said that they will need a few other pillars, to put in the C-segment, as well as a much sportier model, for them to be able to complete the Alfa range of products.

Alfa Romeo is also considering a shortened version of the Giulietta, which will be the shortened version of the Giulia sedan’s platform, and it will likely be a rear wheel drive as well. And take note, that this is a rare territory for C-segment hatchbacks, kind of like the formula of the BMW 1 Series hatch. The thing is, Alfa and FCA will have to make sure that it is worth their time, money, and effort to re-enter that segment.

Evora GT430 Sport is now the lightest and fastest Lotus high-performance sports car

The latest iteration of the Lotus Evora – the Evora GT430 – has been described by the carmaker as its most potent road-going model so far. It is the lightest and most powerful Evora. But Evora is introducing a version of the Evora GT430 that is as powerful, but is lighter and faster. Welcome the new Lotus Evora GT430 Sport, which is available to order now.

Still powering the new Lotus Evora GT430 Sport is a 3.5-liter supercharged and charge-cooled V6 engine that is tuned to provide 430 hp (436 PS) of max output at 7,000 rpm as well as 440 Nm (325 lb.-ft.) of peak torque available at 4,500 rpm. This allows the new Lotus Evora GT430 Sport to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds, as quick as the new Lotus Evora GT430.

The V6 engine sends power to the wheels of the Evora GT430 Sport through a six-speed manual transmission with a low-inertia, single-mass flywheel or – starting January 2018 – a six-speed automatic transmission that employs an optimized gearbox ECU for ultra-fast changes and lightweight aluminum paddles mounted to the steering wheel. The six-speed automatic gearbox will also be offered on the Evora GT430 starting January 2018.

Lotus launches most powerful and lightest Evora so far - the GT430

The Lotus Evora Sport 410 astonished the world after arriving as the more powerful and lighter edition of the already impressive Evora 400. Now, Lotus Cars is throwing in another amazing version of the Evora that is more powerful and ever lighter than the Sport 410 – the new Lotus Evora GT430.

Lotus described its latest creation as it most potent road-going model ever. The carmaker also called the Evora GT430 as a beautiful and pure combination of elegance and power. Of course, the secret to this is not just the distinctive design and unique body work of the new Evora GT430. Aside from employing a more powerful development of its 3.5-liter supercharged V6 engine, Lotus has made full advantage of its prowess and expertise in the field of lightweight engineering. Moreover, the carmaker made sure that the new Evora GT430 comes with advanced aerodynamics, providing the vehicle with a lot of downforce to match its superior firepower.

Installed at the core of the new Evora GT430 is a 3.5-liter supercharged and charge-cooled V6 engine that is also found in the Evora Sport 410. However, this mill is now tuned to deliver more output to 430 hp (436 PS) at 7,000 rpm as well as more torque 440 Nm (325 lbft) available at 4,500 rpm. Lotus was able to squeeze more torque from the engine by employing an air-to-liquid gearbox cooler. Interestingly, the new Evora GT430 comes with a titanium exhaust, which is around 10 kg lighter than in the Evora Sport 410. The V6 engine sends power to the wheels of the Evora GT430 through a standard six-speed manual transmission with a low-inertia, single-mass flywheel. The new Evora GT430 also employs a Torsen-type limited slip differential (LSD) for better traction and faster exit speeds during cornering.

From 1972 to 1986, Team Lotus’ Formula One cars were wrapped in its now famous black and gold livery. Now, Lotus is honoring this iconic livery and the race cars that wore it by making it available with the latest version of its United States-bound sports car.

Dubbed as the Lotus Evora Sport 410 GP Edition, this exclusive version of the Lotus Evora Sport 410 celebrates the successful return of Lotus to North America. Lotus Cars always has something up its sleeve. This time, they decided to improve the already spectacular Evora, putting in more power and lessening the weight, to come up with an even more sensational Lotus Evora Sport 410. This comes even as car enthusiasts are still reeling from the recently announced new models Elise Cup 250 and the Exige Sport 350.

Engineers at the famous Lotus Lightweight Laboratory must have had put enormously effort in successfully pulling off an seemingly impossible feat – taking off a massive 70kg from the Evora model to come up with the new Lotus Evora Sport 410.

In the lighter car, high performance carbon fibre components had to be standard. When combined with the 410 HP supercharged engine with the track-bred 3-Eleven, the Lotus Evora Sport 410 eats up the road faster than its predecessor, a mere 3.9 seconds to reach 0-60 mph and an amazing 186 mph top speed.

Sales will begin this August in the U.S. for the 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider, which has a starting price of $65,495, according to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. This hand-built convertible will be the second model from Alfa Romeo that’s launched in the U.S. after the 4C coupe that kickstarted the brand’s comeback in 2014.

The automaker’s plant in Modena, Italy, produces both the 4C coupe and 4C Spider. They will have a combined output this year of only 2,500 vehicles. Sales in North America this year of these two models are predicted to be from 800 to 1,000 units. For the 4C Spider, the following equipment is available as options: carbon fiber halo (priced at $2,750), racing exhaust package ($3,000), and carbon fiber hardtop ($3,500).

There is sure to be a shortage as Fiat Chrysler had just 30 Alfa 4C coupes in its U.S. inventory at the start of June for its 120 dealers in the country. During a preview of the 4C Spider, Alfa Romeo officials said that building a 4C takes six weeks and it only takes 17 days to sell and deliver one in the U.S. Due to the short supply, FCA has decided to delay the opening of additional dealerships in the U.S. for Alfa Romeo.

Interested buyers in the United States would have to move fast if they want to get a hold of one of the 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C Spiders as only 400 examples will be sold annually in North America, disclosed Reid Bigland, head of Alfa Romeo in the country.

Reidland said Alfa has no plans to expand output of the hand-built, lightweight, mid-engine coupe, which usually takes at least six week to build each. For those who were and are willing to wait to get their own Spiders, they could start receiving their units as early as summer this year.

The units are powered by a 237-hp, 1.7-liter turbocharged aluminum inline-four engine that allows the 4C Spider to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds. “Like fine art, this vehicle needs to be understood to be appreciated,” Bigland said.

Detroit Auto Show also saw the introduction of the all-new 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider, an open-top version of the well-known coupe which promises to attract even more people to the Italian brand. Just like the coupe version, the 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider is powered by the all-aluminum 1750 cc turbocharged direct injection, dual intercooler four-cylinder engine that produces 237 hp and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque available from 1,700 rpm.

Bolted to the Alfa TCT (twin-clutch transmission), which delivers the power to the rear wheels, the 4C Spider is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.1 seconds, while top speed is 160 mph or 257.5 km/h. The design is not surprising at all as we’ve seen the 4C Coupe.

Still, the 4C Spider received some additional features such as sculpted air intakes on the sides, a removable and stowable cloth roof or an optional carbon fiber hardtop, redesigned headlights and a new deck lid with three heat extractors. The new engine delivers staggering 738 hp and 720 Nm (532 lb-ft) of torque.

Due to the impressive output delivered by the engine, the vehicle also received a new body kit that consists of a redesigned front bumper, enlarged front and rear fenders, new side sills, a big rear wing, and a new rear bumper with integrated active air diffuser and central exhaust tailpipes.

The Alfa Romeo 4C made its US debut last month at the 2014 New York Auto Show and will not arrive in the dealerships until June. Still, Alfa Romeo is already considering a more powerful version of the 4C as the chassis could handle more power. These words came from Alfa Romeo CEO Harald Wester, who added that the stiffness of the chassis is very high but the first adjustment would be the brakes.

For those who don’t know, the Alfa Romeo 4C carries a 1.75-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 237 hp and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque. Bolted to a paddle-shifting Alfa TCT twin-clutch gearbox that can push it from 0 to 60 mph in the mid-4 second range. The US version of the Alfa Romeo 4C also comes with plenty of tweaks and compared with the European version the standard base car in the US comes with more equipment. Apparently, European customers like the naked driving machine, while the US customers want more.

We already told you that Alfa Romeo will unveil the 4C Spider Concept at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show so don’t act surprised! Set to go in production in early 2015, the 4C Spider Concept was designed by the Alfa Romeo Style Centre and features the ultra-rigid construction and distinctive design of the coupe version.

Still, the open top version promises to bring the driving experience into even sharper focus as the sounds and sensations of the performances will fill the cabin. Just like any other spider version, the 4C Spider concept needed structural reinforcement required by safety regulations for open-top vehicles.

As a result, the 4C Spider Concept weighs slightly more than the Alfa Romeo 4C Coupe but thanks to the use of carbon fibre for the rollover bars, spoilers and windscreen frame, as well as the adoption of a lightweight canvas soft top and the replacement of the glass rear screen with a continuation of the SMC bodywork, the mechanical purity and low weight philosophy are not compromised.

It took the new Alfa Romeo 4C a total of 8 minutes, 4 seconds to complete one lap at the Nordschleife at the historic Nürburgring circuit in Germany last September 12. This speed breaks records among cars equipped with engines under 250 HP and comparable to very expensive cars powered by more impressive engines. The driver who set the record is journalist and Nordschleife expert Horst von Saurma.

The makers of the Alfa Romeo supercar are attempting to prove its car’s extreme performance and resilience by making it undergo numerous tests, which include the ‘Green Hell’ in Germany as well as the ‐35°in Sweden, the +40°of Abu Dhabi, the Arizona (USA) deserts, the slopes of Mt. Etna in Sicily and the Balocco test track in Italy track, where the development and testing of all Alfa Romeos have been done since 1962.

The Nordschleife has been used by car manufacturers throughout the world as a test and development track. It’s probably due to its one-of-a-kind configuration that consists of slow and fast curves and some strait stretches an undulations. As a result, it offers an excellent way to test the project’s soundness. The 'Green Hell' is the best place to test the performance features of the Alfa Romeo 4C. This car is at its finest on the track.
