Renault chief Carlos Tavares is confident that the new Alpine sports car can compete with models such as Alfa 4C and Lotus Evora during its launch. But he warned that it will be too much for the company to instantly produce a rival to the Porsche Cayman. He said that it’s too “arrogant” to claim that it will win if it goes head-to-head with Porsche.
However, he thinks that Lotus and Alfa are “realistic targets.” Tavares said, according to Autocar, that Caterham and Alpine staff are intentionally given enough freedom to independently operate to guarantee that the creation of the co-developed sports car is not hampered.
Tavares said that the projects have some commonality between the projects but that they’re intent on giving freedom to both sides to express themselves. The two cars have to stand on their own merits. However, there may be some sharing of parts. Alfa Romeo has been working on revitalizing its product portfolio, beginning with the Giulia and the Stelvio. Other than those two, the Italian automaker also has plans on adding a larger crossover in the lineup too, but what will that be? Sales will begin this August in the U.S. for the 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider, which has a starting price of $65,495, according to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. Interested buyers in the United States would have to move fast if they want to get a hold of one of the 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C Spiders as only 400 examples will be sold annually in North America, disclosed Reid Bigland, head of Alfa Romeo in the country.

Eurosport Events has selected the Alfa Romeo 4C as the Safety Car of the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) for the entire 2014 season. The Alfa Romeo 4C will be finished in a special livery and will be on the grid for every WTCC race during the 2014 season. It will start its duty at the Moulay El Hassan Circuit of Marrakech in Morocco on April 12 and 13.
WTCC organizers chose the Alfa Romeo 4C -- named as the “Most Beautiful Car of 2013” at the 29th International Automobile Festival of Paris – after it won a poll organized on Eurosport’s Web site network, in partnership with the International Automobile Festival (IAF).
