Italian luxury carmaker Maserati is updating its Ghibli four-door premium sedan, giving it a new name, a new face and some new technologies. However, Maserati won't be unveiling this update – the new Maserati Ghibli GranLusso – anywhere in Europe. That’s because the company is set to unveil the face-lifted and re-christened luxury four-door in China, in particular at the 2017 Chengdu Auto Show.
Already four years old, the Maserati Ghibli was a success. However, it didn’t become as successful as the Italian carmaker had initially expected. In fact, against luxury sedan rivals like the Mercedes E-Class and the BMW 5-Series, the Ghibli is losing face. However, that doesn’t mean that the Ghibli is ugly. It is beautiful and elegant in its own right; but it just failed to tickle the pockets of majority of luxury customers in Europe. This could be the reason why Maserati is choosing to unveil the 2018 iteration of the Ghibli in another market where luxury is still in a thing in high demand -- China.
For the 2018 model year, Maserati is giving the Ghibli a new trim – the GranLusso. This suffix to the Ghibli moniker suggests that this version of the luxury sedan could be the most luxurious to date. After all, “gran lusso” is an Italian phrase that is translated as “grand luxury” in English. Maserati is expected to reveal how it achieved this in the new Ghibli GranLusso during the official unveiling at the Chengdu Auto Show.Read the entire article Updated Maserati Ghibli luxury sedan is a GranLusso version
When Maserati released the new Levante, the brand had hoped it would start a new chapter in its rebirth. That plan did not go as expected though as when it comes to the rich and famous, the SUV of choice remains to be the Porsche Cayenne. Even then, there is a good alternative that can be found in the Maserati‘s lineup and this is the Ghibli.
At its core, the Ghibli is what everyone is likely to expect from a sports sedan. This is true even if Maserati has yet to come up with a hardcore version of this model. It comes with high-tech features that take luxury to new levels. The interior shows excellent craftsmanship while the exterior has a modern design that retains a classic appeal. No wonder that even when put alongside some German models that claim to be spirited, the Ghibli remains to be a cut above the rest.
Unlike the Ghibli, the other models are like some of those social media celebrities in that they may believe they have the acting chops but are hesitant to get out of the social media platform.Read the entire article Velvet-wrapped Maserati Ghibli is a real treat
There is a new rebel in Maserati’s family of vehicles and it looks ready to go up against all odds. Maserati is introducing the new Ghibli Ribelle, a new limited edition model that underscores the importance of the Ghibli within the carmaker’s range. Maserati will launch the new Ghibli Ribelle to the market starting October 2018.
Maserati’s latest limited edition is essentially the Ghibli featuring a darker look courtesy of a number of exterior and interior tweaks. Its name “Ribelle” is an Italian word that actually means “rebel,” signifying the rebellious looks of this new limited edition. To highlight this, the Ghibli Ribelle is wrapped in a dark metallic tone called “Nero Ribelle,” which means black rebel. Nero Ribelle is indeed a fitting color for such a name.
This rebellious yet sophisticated dark appearance of the Maserati Ghibli Ribelle is further highlighted by elegantly exclusive glossy black Proteo alloy wheels. Measuring 19 inches in diameter, these alloy wheels feature contrasting red laser etched details. Seen through the wheels are red brake calipers.Read the entire article 2019 Maserati Ghibli Ribelle is a rebellious limited edition in elegant black finish
Using cameras to replace the rear and side mirrors isn't something new. However, this technology is usually found on concept vehicles and some exotic cars. But at Lexus, this technology will be installed on one of its premium sedans starting October this year.
Lexus is introducing the world' first Digital Outer Mirrors, which will initially be fitted on the new 2019 Lexus ES. Digital Outer Mirrors make use of small exterior cameras on the front doors. They are mounted on stalks that swell on the place where conventional side mirrors are usually found.
The cameras send images onto displays – each monitor measuring five inches diagonally– inside the cabin, as positioned at the base of the front pillars. Instead of looking through the windows onto the side mirrors, a driver just have to view the images on the displays. This means that the driver’s view of the sides and the rear of the cars aren’t compromised when the windows are dirty or hazy.Read the entire article Side mirrors in 2019 Lexus ES sedan can be replaced with camera-based Digital Outer Mirrors
Whenever Mercedes-Benz officially unveils a new generation vehicle, it also creates a special edition model dedicated to the launch of the all-new model. Typically called as the Edition 1, this model is essentially a more lavish version of the newly launched next-gen model. Now, after unveiling the new generation of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan, the carmaker is introducing the 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan Edition 1.
As a launch edition model, The 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan Edition 1 is differentiated from its ordinary counterpart with a number of visual tweaks. In addition, compared to the ordinary 2019 A-Class Sedan, the Edition 1 will have more equipment included as standard. The A-Class Sedan Edition 1 Edition 1 is essentially derived from the AMG Line version. It features “Edition” badging on the front fenders to communicate to the world that it is not your typical A-Class Sedan.
Visual tweaks implemented on the exterior of the new 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan Edition 1 include a number of copper accents. These copper accents include the pins on its “diamond” front grille as well as on its elegant 19-inch alloy wheels.Read the entire article Mercedes-Benz introduces 2019 A-Class Sedan Edition 1 with copper-like highlights
The global automotive market is dominated by several major players from Japan, Europe and the United States. Some companies from South Korea and India are also major players in the automotive world. In the recent years, a few automakers from China are making some noise. How about a carmaker from Vietnam?
Here comes VinFast, a virtually unknown carmaker – at least in the global scene --- based in Ha Noi, Vietnam. Seeing itself as brand for Vietnamese cars, VinFast is a part of the VinGroup, a $10-billion conglomerate in Vietnam that is involve in operating shopping malls, resorts, spas, hospitals and schools as well as apartment complexes in the country. Led by 50-year richest man in Vietnam, billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong, VinGroup is venturing into industrial manufacturing through VinFast.
As part of its plan, VinFast will initially focus on the Vietnamese market, as the country’s GDP growth is expected to grow between six to seven percent annually. Then, the Vietnamese carmaker will set its eyes on other markets, especially in Southeast Asia.Read the entire article Vietnamese carmaker VinFast gains traction as two models to debut at 2018 Paris Motor Show
Japanese luxury carmaker Acura implemented a surprisingly major refresh of its Acura ILX compact sedan for the 2019 model year. Aside from getting a new styling and enhanced technologies, the 2019 Acura ILX is joining the TLX sedan as well as the RDX and MDX utilities in receiving the latest-generation A-Spec treatment.
The refresh of the new 2019 Acura ILX completes the transformation of the brand’s new design identity across it lineup. The compact sedan is now all-new from the A-pillars forward, with a new face taking inspiration from Acura Precision Concept. Its front section is now defined by a more sharply sculpted hood, the Diamond Pentagon Grille as flanked by the seven-element Acura Jewel Eye LED headlights. On the rear, the new ILX features a new rear fascia, an all-new decklid, a lower diffuser with exposed exhaust outlet as well as LED taillights. The new Acura rides on a set of 17-inch split-5 spoke wheel.

Lynk & Co, a carmaker founded just two years ago, is introducing its third production model: the Lynk & Co 03 sedan. This new model – derived from a concept first unveiled in April 2017 at the Auto Shanghai – marks the Chinese brand’s very first sedan.
When the Chinese carmaker unveiled the Lynk & Co 03 Concept at the 2017 Auto Shanghai, it was easily unmistakable that this sedan concept featured the design cues – both on the front and on the rear ends – of the Lynk & Co 01 and 02 sports utility vehicle. It looked like the 01 and the 02 but in a more aggressive and sportier package.
After more than a year, Lynk & Co – a Chinese-Swedish auto brand owned by Zhejiang Geely Holding Group that also owns Volvo -- is introducing the 03 sedan, which is essentially the production version of the 03 Concept shown in Shanghai in 2017. On a closer look, it seems that the Chinese carmaker didn’t bother to change or revise the design of the show car, especially since both the 03 production version and the 03 Concept basically look the same.Read the entire article Production version of Lynk & Co 03 sedan introduced
Mercedes-AMG only came out with the E43 lineup a few years ago, and already, the said model is ready to retire the badge so they could give way for the arrival of the electrified E53 family. It was first revealed at the beginning of the year during the Detroit Auto Show and came in two body styles, a coupe and a cabriolet. These were then followed by the reveal of the sedan and wagon flavours last month.
And according to the automaker, towards the end of the year, Mercedes will be selling the 2019 model year E53 Sedan in the United States, as a replacement of the E43 Sedan, and it will come along with the more upscale two-door E53 models. To make it clear, the name change is just a minor thing.
The real upgrade is in its performance, as it now packs more power. But instead, the new inline six biturbo 3.0 liter engine has an output of 429 horsepower and 384 pound feet of torque. That’s a noticeable difference compared to the old model that offered the output of 396 horsepower and 384 pound feet that came from the former V6 engine.Read the entire article 2019 Mercedes-AMG E53 Sedan will be available in the US later this year

A few days back, we discussed that Ford’s plan involves retiring most of its compact cars and sedans and replacing them with SUVs. However, there would be two small models that will remain in the lineup -- the Mustang and the Focus Active, at least for the United States. So what is the automaker’s reason for doing so? Well, the answer is as simple as this - money.
To support that statement, Jim Hackett, Ford’s CEO said in his interview with Automotive News that they have decided to just focus on the healthier part of the business, referring to trucks and crossovers. In the first quarter of 2018 alone, the company’s sales of $3 billion all came from this segment. Soon, 90 percent of all sales will come from this.
The CEO added that they will soon deal with the parts of the company that destroy value. He, of course, is speaking of sedans and hatchbacks. In fact, by 2022, they hope to uncover $25.5 billion in savings with the switch to SUVs and trucks. This is double the amount identified back in October ($14 million).Read the entire article Why is Ford getting rid of its sedans and hatchbacks?
During the 2018 Beijing Motor Show, Geely revealed a new flagship saloon model, and for the very first time, it looks like the Chinese automaker might actually set the bar for other international marques to follow.
The Bo Rui GE is the first-ever model to roll out of the automaker’s new design centers set up by Peter Horbury, the company’s head of design, who once worked in Volvo and is now with Geely to oversee design of the company’s subsidiaries. He has been a part of brands like Lotus and LEVC, also known as the company that makes the London taxi.
According to Horbury, the Bo Rui GE was not made under the influence of the Western culture. Rather, it is a sign that the Chinese’s tastes are changing. During his interview, he also stated that the Chinese market has evolved and has become more sophisticated and mature compared to how they were a few years ago. This way, the automaker has also evolved into becoming a confident global brand that can now develop segment-leading cars, but still with a hint of its Chinese origin.Read the entire article Geely’s flagship Bo Rui GE sedan appears ready to take on the world

The seventh generation of the Lexus ES premium sedan (2019 model year) has just been unveiled at the 2018 Auto China (Beijing Motor Show), boasting a more dynamic performance, an all-new exterior design as well as a comfortable and luxurious interior.
Essentially, the 2019 Lexus ES owes its latest evolved character to the all-new Global Architecture-K (GA-K) platform. Compared to its predecessor, the all-new ES is longer by 2.6 inches, lower by 0.2 inches, and wider by 1.8 inches. Its wheelbase is longer by 2 inches while its tracks are wider both on the front (by 0.4 inches) and the rear (by 1.5 inches). The Global Architecture-K chassis is a rigid front-wheel drive chassis that makes use of various grades of high-tensile steel to save weight. It features enhancements like an all-new double wishbone suspension design, rack-mounted electric power steering and a V-brace mounted behind the rear seat.
This new platform allowed the new ES to feature a dynamic yet fluid shape, as well as a characteristic silhouette highlighted by an aggressive downward slant. Thanks to its lower height and its fast roofline, the new ES offers a coupe-like profile, a lower and wind-cheating aerodynamics. Up front, the ES features a larger spindle with vertical bars on the ES 350 and the ES 350h, or a blacked out cross-hatch pattern on the ES 350 F SPORT.Read the entire article Lexus unveils seventh-generation ES premium midsize luxury sedan at Beijing Motor Show
Mercedes-Benz is showing some love for the automotive customers in China by unveiling the long-wheelbase version of the A-Class at Auto China 2018, also known as the Beijing Motor Show. The very first A-Class L will be exclusively produced in China, with sales to commence in the country and in other parts of the world in the second half of the year.
While the fourth generation of the A-Class bound for Western Europe next month is the hatchback, the A-Class unveiled at Beijing is a notchback, and Mercedes-Benz is officially calling this compact car the A-Class L Sedan, with the “L” suffix referring to its long-wheelbase character.
This is because the wheelbase of the A-Class L Sedan (at 2,789 mm) is around 60 mm longer than that of the A-Class hatchback (at 2,729 mm), offering more knee room for rear passengers. In terms of dimensions, the new A-Class L Sedan measures 4,609 in length, 1,796 mm in width and 1,460 mm in height. We first saw the 30 Years American Edition of the BMW M3 (F80) at SEMA last year. This model was created to celebrate three decades of the sports sedan in the United States. Offering a bolder design, a roomier interior space and new technology, is out to prove itself more appealing than its predecessor. Acura’s A-Spec package will finally be made available to more buyers, according to the automaker. In particular, the 2019 Acura TLX sedan will now offer the appearance treatment for models powered by the base 2.4 liter inline-four engine. Up until now, it had only been the TLX with the V6 engine that could be dressed up in A Spec garb. Due to high customer demand for this, Acura decided to expand its availability.
In other words, it will be more affordable to get your hands on an A-Spec car, now that it is being offered with the TLX’s four cylinder engine. Pricing starts at $39,400 before destination costs for the four cylinder A spec, versus $43,765 for the V6 version.
What’s included in the 2019 Acura TLX with the A-Spec trim, will be a set of special 19-inch wheels, a unique front fascia with larger intakes, a matte black grille, tinted taillights, a gloss black trunk spoiler, and a couple of visual add ons. Inside the cabin are now sports seats, red LED ambient lighting, red trimmed instruments, brushed aluminum trim, and a steering wheel with a thicker rim.Read the entire article 2019 Acura TLX expands A Spec trim across the range
A couple of weeks ago, we heard that Kia took the covers off its newest K900 in their homeland in South Korea. Now, the automaker does the same for the North American model at the 2018 New York Auto Show. The automaker claims that this model will go on sale in the fourth quarter of 2018, and pricing details will be revealed as we come closer to the launch date.
New K900 just made its debut in the United States, looking pretty much like its South Korean sibling, where the sedan carries the name K9. The design is quite conservative and it maintains a traditional three box shape, and it seems to not want to move towards the sleeker, coupe inspired elements like that in many modern sedans.
The new grille is one thing that Kia is quite proud of, featuring a wavy mesh with 176 cells. Apparently, this design was made to release energy moving away from its center, similar to how ripples in water move away from the impact of a splash. The poetic concept is not very obvious when looking at the real thing though.Read the entire article 2019 Kia K900 debuts in New York packing lots of tech
Mercedes-Benz has chosen New York City as the location to reveal to us the refreshed C63 AMG family. These comprise the coupe, sedan, and cabriolet. In fact, we have seen the pre production models being tested but finally, the automaker has decided to get rid of the camouflage.
Now, we finally see them in the flesh, and we would say that one of the most obvious changes would be the new Panamericana grille that is actually pretty standard across the AMG line. That’s not the only thing it has been given though, as the 2019 C63’s front fascia has slightly been reworked as well. Meanwhile, the rear part gets twin tailpipes with high gloss chrome and a tweaked rear diffuser.
Under the hood of this C63 is a biturbo 4.0 liter V8 that enables it to produce 469 horsepower (350 kilowatts), while the C63 S has 503 horsepower (375 kilowatts). The engine is paired with a nine speed wet clutch automatic gearbox, which has been replaced by the seven speed unit in the outgoing model.Read the entire article Updated 2019 Mercedes-AMG C63 lineup gets digital cockpit, modified drive programs
