A couple of years ago, Mazda introduced to us the 2016 CX-9 model year, and it was loved by many. This year, they have decided that it is time to introduce another model year that comes with a handful of technological upgrades. The 2018 model year should be out in dealerships by the end of September.
So speaking of technological upgrades, drivers can now enjoy functions including blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Smart City Brake Support. The latter works just like an automatic emergency braking system.
I did mention that it will be getting a number of tech upgrades, right? Another new feature that the CX-9 gets will be the company's G-Vectoring Control that comes as standard. What this feature does is that it tweaks the engine mapping, steering inputs, and throttle settings to reduce engine torque when cornering. Mazda seems too far ahead in Safety technology for having four of its vehicles chosen as the safest on the road. Very recently, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has included the Japanese automaker’s CX-9 among the Top Safety Pick+ ratings along with the CX3 crossover, the Mazda 6 and the Mazda 3.
While its highly advanced crash avoidance system lead to its Top Safety Pick rating +, the CX-9 scored the highest in all 5 crash tests which included rigorous testing on the new LED headlights.
Other midsize SUVs that have earned the top spot are Toyota Highlander, Hyundai Santa Fe, and Honda Pilot. Mazda North American Operations has priced the 2016 Mazda CX-9, its newest three-row midsize crossover SUV, at MSRP starting from $31,520. In addition to the pricing, the company has also released its packaging information. The 2016 CX-9 has fun-to-drive handling dynamics, offers a first-rate experience, and comes with bold KODO, its Soul of Motion design.
MNAO’s Senior Vice-President for U.S. Operations Robert Davis said that the company had high expectations when it came to the 2016 CX-9 which included having a more responsive powertrain and providing a smoother yet quieter ride, among others.
As its flagship vehicle, Davis continued, the 2016 CX-9 shows the future of innovative technologies and features that the company believes will advance their vehicles in their respective segments. Expecting a surge in demand from the U.S. and Canadian markets, Mazda Motor Corporation recently announced that the production of the all-new CX-9 three-row mid-six crossover SUV has begun in its Ujina Plant No. 1 in Hiroshima. According to Mazda, the new CX-9 is specifically designed for the North American market and would be available by spring of 2016.
The North American market is a very important region for Mazda, with annual sales expected to hit 50,000 units, accounting for 80 percent of global sales. The United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a preliminary evaluation into reduced brake effectiveness for around 62,319 Mazda Motor Corp. CX-9 large crossover vehicles covering model years 2010 and 2011. According to documents filed online, NHTSA launched the probe after receiving seven consumer complaints of unexpected loss of power-assisted braking.
A preliminary evaluation is the initial step in a process that could result to a recall if NHTSA determines a carmaker needs to address a safety issue. A Mazda spokesman said the carmaker was cooperating with NHTSA officials in the probes. NHTSA documents say that consumer reported incidents of the brake pedal suddenly feeling hard, thus needing increased effort to stop the vehicle.
The NHTSA had started a probe into leaks in the brake master cylinder in the 2008 CX-9 but closed it in April 2012 due to a low probability the condition could affect brake performance. In the probe into 2010-2011 CX-9s, complaints included possible loss of power assist to the brake and reduced brake effectiveness. Mazda said that its 2014 CX-9 crossover has a starting price of $30,780 (which includes destination costs). The 2014 model received just minor revisions as the 2013 Mazda CX-9 was subjected to a significant face lift, including a new Kodo-inspired front fascia. The new model features a fresh design on its 20-inch wheels.
Its Brilliant Black and Dolphin Gray paint options have been replaced with Jet Black Mica and Blue Reflex Mica. A 3.7-liter V-6 engine and a six-speed automatic transmission are available with all the versions of the 2014 Mazda CX-9. Mazda offers front-wheel drive as standard. Those who want all-wheel drive will have to pay an extra $1590 while those who like the look of Mazda’s special Crystal White Pearl Mica paint will have to pay $200 more on any version.
Paying the base price gives you the 2014 Mazda CX-9 Sport front-wheel drive. Add $690 to the price and get a power driver’s seat, heated front seats, and heated mirrors. The starting price of the updated 2013 Mazda CX-9 in the U.S. is $30,580 (which includes a destination cost of $795), higher than the $30,520 starting price of last year’s model. The 2013 Mazda CX-9, which was previewed in Sydney, uses new sheetmetal so that it could be brought in line with Kodo design language that the other models of the brand uses.
The changes to its looks include a new front grille with a big chrome strip and the exhaust tips change from trapezoids to circles. Meanwhile, Zeal Red and Meteor Gray have been added to the color palette. It is equipped with a 5.8-inch multi-information display (MID) as standard. Its Bluetooth interface was updated to have improved control of streaming music as well as gain the ability to display text messages on the MID and permit drivers to touch in order to send some pre-set replies.
