2018 Mercedes-AMG GT R is currently the most powerful safety car

Another year means another Formula 1 season. And soon, the 2018 season will kick off this weekend with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne. This year marks the 23rd consecutive year and Mercedes Benz, again will provide the Safety Car for the most important motorsport event. Since 1996, Mercedes-Benz had been the supplier of the event’s safety car, from way back when it was the C36 AMG, to the Mercedes-AMG GT R today - this might be the most powerful F1 Safety Car of all time.

Under its hood is a biturbo 4.0 liter V8 engine that enables the car to carry out 577 horsepower. During the 2015 to 2017 seasons, the GT R just follows the lesser GT S version. Also, it will be Bernd Maylander who will be behind the wheel of F1’s official Safety Car.

In Maylander’s interview, he said that the highlight of this car would be its driving dynamics. And that he is glad that it is a level higher than the AMG GT S of recent years. He added that the safety car should be deployed as rarely as possible, but when they have to bunch up the Formula 1 field and drive it around the track, then it will be equipped with the AMG GT R.

2018 Mercedes-AMG GT R rolls out this summer in US, see final pricing details here

After the unveiling of the Mercedes-AMG GT R in the midyear of 2016, the German automaker is at last revealing this exclusive green beast priced at $157,995. They will roll out this summer, and Mercedes-AMG announced that it will only produce 2,000 units worldwide. Those who are willing to dish out this amount of money must move quickly before these mean machines will be sold out.

The 3rd of kin and the most impressive member of the AMG GT clan boasts of pure power and decreased weight for dynamic performances. It is worth the wait after all, since the expert engineers from Affalterbach have managed to take off some load from the sports car and at the same time squeezed more power from the biturbo 4.0 L V8 engine to make the Coupe a worthy adversary in its league. The biturbo V8 can produce a whopping 577 hP (430 kW) and 516 lb-feet (700 Newton-meters) of torque, delivering 74 hp abd 37 lb-ft more compared to the S model.

A 7-speed dual clutch gearbox delivers the torque directly to the rear axle. Its first gear currently has a longer ratio, and the 7th gear has a shortened one to empower a far more better acceleration. The German automaker remarked that the GT R Coupe can accelerate up to 60 miles/hour (97 km/hour) in only 3.5 seconds and can reach a top speed of up to 198 mph(319 kph), which is 0.2 second more quicker that its S version predecessor . Weight-wise, the new AMG GT R weighs at around 3,428 lbs (1,554 kg)- which makes it lighter than the S version (90 kg less).

G-Power Mercedes-AMG GT delivers 610 hp of output and 755 Nm of torque

Each time tuning company G-Power unveils its work, we could expect a tuned car that is significantly more potent than the standard unit it was based on. This has been the case for several of BMW’s high-performance cars – all of which were made more powerful by the incredible tuning work of G-Power.

The latest of G-Power’s works include, however, another German premium carmaker – Mercedes-Benz. For its latest project, G-Power has picked the Mercedes-AMG GT sports car. Who are the world’s bravest test drivers? They may be those testing high-speed racing prototypes on a circuit. Or they may be those assessing the agility of test cars on high-speed corners deep in the mountains.

But for German premium carmaker Mercedes-Benz, the bravest test drivers in the world don’t even have a driving license. In fact, they are more than a decade away from the age when they could get their driving license.

The world’s bravest test drivers are toddlers, and Mercedes-Benz got the perfect test car for them, recently unveiled at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. For Mercedes-Benz, a small child is never too young is experience a bit of luxury and sportiness. The brand proved this point literally by introducing the new Mercedes-AMG GT Bobby-Car -- a new, single-seater sports car designed particularly for small kids.

Mercedes-AMG is currently making great waves in the automotive scene. The German automaker Mercedes-Benz’s high performance division has been creating some of the most superb cars; however, this year, it has brought to the world another string of surprises. And guess what? It’s everything that comes at par (or even better) than its previous models.

Earlier this year, we were introduced to the Green Hell baby that was the Mercedes-AMG GT R. The “green hell magno” colored AMG GT R was developed at the famous Nurburgring racetrack, particularly at the Green Hell, where its twin-turbo V8 was tested to its limits.

It comes with 585 horses and around 516 lb.-ft. of torque. Aside from its engine, it is even made stronger because of its front-mid-engine concept with transaxle, an extensively modified suspension, new aerodynamics and is aided by its intelligent lightweight construction. It also comes with wider front and rear wings which give it an increased track width allowing optimum grip and higher cornering speeds. It also has standard lightweight forged wheels with cup tyres perfect for maximum driving dynamics.

Come to think of it, the Mercedes-AMG GT R could be considered one of the most dynamic cars that the premium carmaker has created. Now, a sportier model – filled to the brim with technologies derived from motorsport – has been introduced: the new Mercedes-AMG GT R.

It is of note as well that the suspension system featured on the new AMG GT R is also systematically designed to be used on the racetrack. Mercedes-AMG ensured that suspension components -- steering knuckles, wishbones and hub carriers on the front and rear axle – have lower unsprung masses produced from forged aluminum. The double-wishbone concept on the AMG GT R firmly locates the wheel and come with the least elastic movements.

Thanks to the high camber and toe-in stability results, the AMG GT R could race through a corner even at high speeds and the driver gets a better feel of the road during cornering at the extreme limits.

Back in 2014, Mercedes-Benz’s high performance division, the Mercedes-AMG GmbH (AMG in short), debuted a two-door two-seat grand tourer coupe that was built to challenge the Porsche 911. Unveiled to the public during the 2014 Paris Motor Show, the Mercedes-AMG GT was built to last in a faceoff with its arch nemesis, the Porsche 911.

The Mercedes-AMG GT has two performance options: the standard GT and the high performance GT S. Both cars run on the same 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine except that the GT is slightly less powerful with 469 horsepower and 433 lb.-ft. torque on tap while the GT S has 503 horsepower and 479 lb.-ft. torque. Of course, since there is a difference in power, there is also a slight difference in the acceleration time.

The GT can sprint through 60 mph in 3.9 seconds while the GT S can go in only 3.7 seconds – only a 0.2 second difference. Moreover, the GT can hit a top speed of only 202 mph, 8 mph slower than that of the 210 mph on the GT S.
