The 2019 Geneva Motor Show is serving as a witness to the unveiling of the Mercedes-Benz GLC Facelift. It has already been nearly four years since Mercedes-Benz launched the GLC in autumn 2015, and now the German premium carmaker is refreshing one of its beloved SUV with some revisions on its looks and better technological features.
On the exterior, the updated Mercedes-Benz GLC features chrome elements running from the front to the rear end, a heavily contoured chrome radiator grille and a front fascia with three small rectangular sections. The grille is flanked by LED (light emitting diode) High-Performance headlights as standard, as redesigned to feature a smaller, more angular appearance. Optionally available are full-LED headlamps with MULTIBEAM technology. The front end also features daytime running lights with torch shape.
The rear section of the new Mercedes GLC is marked by some updates such as completely revised bumper and exhaust tips that now features sharp-edged trapezoidal outline. The battle for supremacy in China among premium SUVs with long wheelbases will soon hot as Mercedes-Benz reveals the long-wheelbase version of the GLC. The new Mercedes-Benz GLC L will only be sold in the Chinese market and will compete against the long-wheelbase variant of the Audi Q5 crossover (Q5 L). Mercedes-Benz is expected to unveil the new GCL L to the public at the Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition in November 2018.
When compared, the new Mercedes-Benz GLC L basically looks like the regular wheelbase version – just like any extended model being sold in the Chinese market. However, the long wheelbase variant of the GCL does appear extended on the side because of its now stretched length. This is evident beyond the B-pillars of the new GLC L, where the roofline looks to have grown longer. This is also evident when looking at its rear doors, which now appear to be longer than those in the regular wheelbase version of the GLC SUV.
For its exact dimensions, the new Mercedes GCL L measures around 4.76 meters (187.6 inches) in overall length as well as 1.89 meters (74.7 inches) in overall width. Using the Mercedes GLC as the base, this technological showcase isn't a futuristic vehicle, but is a real SUV that will be delivered to customers at the end of October 2018. It was originally envisioned as a plug-in hybrid, but now represents an important step by the German carmaker in the development of fuel cell technology.

Luckily for German law enforcement officers, Mercedes-Benz is presenting them with more ways to catch criminals as it launches the X-Class truck for cops at the General Police Equipment Exhibition & Conference 2018 in Frankfurt. Aside from the truck, the automaker will also reveal other models that are part of its range of Polizei-ready models, including some really efficient options.
Here is the thing, MercedesBenz does not offer many details about the changes for its police focused vehicles. The Chinese market will soon be getting the exclusive China-only model, Mercedes-Benz GLC-L, for a premium of 15,000 yuan ($2,300) more than the regular model.
The difference is actually quite noticeable as this model has a longer wheelbase. It had been increased by 10 cm (3.93 inches). As you can see from the images from CarNewsChina and Autohome, the roofline seems to have grown starting from the B-pillar.
Since we are discussing a longer wheelbase, then we might as well talk about the vehicle’s dimensions. The 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC-L is 4,765 mm (15.6 feet) long, 1,898 mm (6.2 feet) wide, and 1,648 mm (5.4 feet) high. What can we expect from Mercedes-Benz for this year and the next? It seems all matters have been laid out with luxury carmaker’s vehicle lineup for 2017 and 2018. As revealed by parent Daimler AG in its second-quarter interim report, a roadmap for the Mercedes’ product offensive includes interesting new vehicles up for release in 2018.
The road map included in Daimler’s second-quarter 2017 interim report details Mercedes’ product offensive starting 2017 through next year. Some of these products were already presented or are set to be introduced in the period January to September 2017 -- such the E-Class Coupe and the E-Class (March 2017), GLA facelift and AMG GT Roadster (April 2017), S-Class Facelift (July 2017) and the E-Class Cabriolet (September 2017). The remaining product to be introduced in the remaining months of 2017 is the Mercedes X-Class pickup truck, which is bound for release in November or December 2017, according to this product offensive roadmap.
Mercedes’ product offensive in 2018 will be headlined by the S-Class Coupe Facelift and the S-Class Cabriolet Facelift, both of which were recently unveiled at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. Recently, Mercedes-Benz came out with the Project One, and that probably is the company's most powerful hypercar to date, giving out as much as 1,000 horsepower. But during Frankfurt, the German automaker introduced us to something more environmentally friendly. This includes models like the EQ A Concept, Vision EQ Fortwo, and the GLC F-Cell in its pre-production stage. Thanks to its unique powertrain, the GLC was made with a plug-in hybrid that works with a fuel cell stack instead of a combustion engine. All in all, the GLC F-Cell has a total output of 197 horsepower (147 kilowatts) and 258 pound feet (350 Newton-metres) of torque. In terms of range, this setup has a range of 272 miles (437 kilometers) in the New European Driving Cycle test.
The fuel cell portion comes with two carbon fiber tanks that carry as much as 9.7 pounds (4.4 kilograms) of hydrogen. To respond to the growing demand for the new Mercedes-Benz GLC, the carmaker has contracted Valmet Automotive to produce more of the mid-range SUV starting 2017 at its manufacturing site in Uusikaupunki, Finland.
However, Mercedes-Benz will still use its Bremen facility in Germany as the main production site for the new GLC. In fact, the carmaker has been building the GLC in Bremen since July. Being the main production site for the GLC, the Bremen facility has been experiencing a high utilization rate.
To ease up some capacity at the Bremen plant, Mercedes is leveraging capacities offered by contract manufacturing, like that of Valmet Automotive. A new chapter was written today by Daimler as the German company unveiled its all-new 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC a.k.a. the second generation of its mid-size SUV which was renamed from GLK to GLC. As expected, the new design is based on the GLC Concept which was unveiled earlier this year, while the front end follows the same design line as the smaller C-Class.
The vehicle features a three-dimensional radiator grille with a twin lover and centrally positioned brand star and stylish headlamps with LED High Performance lamps available as an option. Seen from the side, the GLC features a gently sloping dropping line and matte black cladding in the wings. The rear end gets redesigned taillights, muscular shoulders and a stylish roof spoiler.
As you can see, there is no rear antenna as all the antennae were integrated into the exterior mirrors and the roof spoiler. The new design helps the GLC achieve a Cd value of 0.31 (GLK 0.34). Meanwhile, the total weight has been cut by 176 pounds (80 kg). Mercedes-Benz is set to show its Concept GLC Coupe at the Shanghai Auto Show, proving that the automaker isn’t backing down from a challenge. The Concept GLC Coupe is a near-production-standard compact model that uses the popular GLE Coupe formula. This dynamic show car features the coupe’s styling but with the sensual design premise of future SUV generations.
The combination is appealing in itself but it comes with strong details. It features a twin-blade radiator grille, powerdomes on the bonnet, and a four-pipe exhaust system that form an aesthetic contrast to the harmonious, nearly organic main body. Going off-road won’t be a problem with the Concept GLC Coupe as it comes with front and rear underbody protection, bigger ground clearance, 21-inch tires, and side running boards.
The GLE Coupe was warmly received as a highly practical SUV and impressive coupe so Mercedes-Benz is hoping to repeat its success with the Concept GLC Coupe. Mercedes-Benz intends to do well in the midsize-SUV segment by presenting a coupé version of the next-generation GLK. This is the rival to the boxy BMW X3 and Audi Q5 but since it’s not offered in a right-hand drive variant, it’s not available in the UK presently. Carlex Design isn't a beginner with regards to tuning the Mercedes-Benz X-Class. In fact, it has even created a version with Maybach-like appearance and features. It has also created Off-Road-focused and Urban-tailored versions. Now, Carlex Design seems to be not contented with how far it has gone with the X-Class and is now presenting a new concept design for the luxury SUV from Mercedes.
Indeed, the Mercedes-Benz X-Class represents the luxury side of pickup trucks. While offering a drive that is comparable to a sports utility vehicle, the X-Class also delivers a smooth, comfortable ride that is expected of luxurious vehicles. Plug-in hybrid vehicles are increasingly the mobility of choice for many people. For short drives around the city or urban areas, plug-in hybrid can be switched to all-electric mode for a zero-emission driving experience. However, current plug-in hybrids can only offer up to 50 km (31 miles) of all-electric range.
Mercedes-Benz is hoping to break the status quo by not just surpassing the 50-km barrier, but also offering up to 100 km (62 miles) in pure electric range. Quite a number of plug-in hybrids still offer 30 km of electric range, while there is an increasing number of models that are engineered to reach 50 km.
