Mercedes-AMG S65 bids farewell with new Final Edition

The vivid story of luxury performance that goes by the name of Mercedes-AMG S65 is nearing its end. AMG is basically signaling this fact by unveiling a final edition of this successful model, which is powered by the peak version of 6.0-liter V12 Biturbo engine. Dubbed as the Mercedes-AMG S 65 Final Edition, this limited edition model fuses performance and prestige, as blessed with comprehensive level of standard equipment.

In terms of exterior looks, the new Mercedes-AMG S65 Final Edition is wrapped only in a high-gloss obsidian black metallic paint finish, as complemented by air inlet grilles in matte bronze finish as well as tailpipe trims in high-gloss black. Riding on elegant 20-inch forged multi-spoke wheels, the AMG S 65 Final Edition is marked by an AMG crest on the C-pillar to underline its special status.

Inside, the cabin of the new Mercedes-AMG S65 Final Edition is upholstered in Exclusive black Nappa leather, as complemented by copper-colored contrasting topstitching. The cabin also features trim elements in high-quality carbon fiber streaked with fine copper-colored threads as well as floor mats featuring topstitching with copper-colored contrasts. 2018 Mercedes-AMG S65 exists only for customers who want the best in luxury regardless of cost

A lot of people question why there is even a 2018 Mercedes-AMG S65, firstly because it costs a lot more than the S63 sedan ($82,500 more) and yet, it is 0.7 second slower when sprinting from zero to 60 miles per hour. Both cars not only have similar top speeds, but they both offer the same options and features. In other words, we do not clearly see why the S65 should cost a lot more than the S63. We don’t see it both on paper, and when looking at it. Therefore, paying for so much more is quite irrational. But I guess that’s why its customers would want this model.

Nick Martin, AMG Product Manager at Mercedes-Benz, says that there will always be someone who prefers a 12-cylinder, and that they will buy the ultimate in performance because that’s their character.

The S65 is one of the few models out there that are still offered with a V12 engine, hence making it very exclusive. And of all Mercedes models, this is the only one with the S-Class powertrain that has been unchanged for the 2018 model year. Martin continues to say that the S65 has a niche market, and these people buy it not for logical reasons but because it is considered the best model in the dealership, saying that “the S65 exists because there is no S75”.

2018 Mercedes-Benz S560, S63 and S65 AMG Cabriolet get a facelift ahead of Frankfurt Motor Show

Mercedes-Benz is introducing the face-lifted 2018 Mercedes S-Class Cabriolet, along with the new 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe. Official unveiling of the 2018 Mercedes S-Class Cabriolet is scheduled to happen a week from now at the upcoming 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The introduction of the updated S-Class Cabriolet was well-expected after Mercedes took the wraps off the face-lifted S-Class Sedan or Saloon earlier this year. Compared to its predecessor, the new S-Class Sedan offers a new appearance, new dynamic feeling and new levels of comfort and convenience. This is thanks to a number of changes like new front and rear fascias and new grille design as well as new engines and a host of innovative technologies.

Just as expected, the updated 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet Facelift features more or less the same changes as that made on the 2018 S-Class Saloon. For instance, the new S-Class Cabriolet comes with new or functionally extended driving assistance systems, the latest infotainment generation, integrated Energizing comfort control as well as a new generation of steering wheels. The S-Class Cabriolet also features a modern control and display concept with Widescreen Cockpit.

2017 Frankfurt Preview: Brabus Rocket 900 Cabrio based on 2017 Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet

The 2017 Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet is no doubt a powerful car, with a 621 horsepower engine under its hood. Despite its power, Brabus still decided that they'd push the S65's V12 engine even further. By doing so, they were able to extract an additional 267 horsepower, giving it a total of 888 horsepower (662 kilowatts) available from 5,500 rpm. Naturally, torque is also increased to 1,106 pound-feet (1,500 Nm) at 4,200 rpm from only 738 pound-feet (1,000 Newton metres). To preserve reliability, it had to be electronically capped to 885 pound feet (1,200 Nm).

With that much power hike, Brabus didn't just have to do some software revision, but they also had to increase engine displacement from 6.0 to 6.3 liters and enlarge the cylinder bores. Exhaust manifolds and larger turbochargers had to be installed too. The new control system takes care of cooling and stabilizing the car, making it work in the most efficient way while ensuring you get a smooth V12 cabriolet.

Brabus modified a seven-speed automatic transmission that works with the immense power of the V12, giving power to the rear wheels. It has been given a custom limited-slip differential, new intake manifold, bigger down pipes, and a high-performance exhaust that completes the hardware upgrades.

Celebrated golfer Tiger Woods is once again in the news for all the wrong reasons. On Memorial Day, various news reports disclosed that Woods was arrested under suspicion for driving under the influence. Specifically, police found him sleeping on the steering wheel and was arrested for the DUI.

While this may once again dent Woods' reputation, it comes as a relief that nothing worse happened. His 2015 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG is altogether a different story. Though rather sketchy, the photos revealed that there were flat tires with the sidewalls torn. There were even some significant tweaks that can be seen on the wheels, which themselves clearly look dirty.

According to a report by the Police Department of Jupiter, Florida, the driver side also showed some damage. Looking at the photos though, the rather obvious damages look to be the loosened fender liner on the model's front wheel well. In addition, it appears that the front fascia has been dislodged. Given the fact that the driver side's front and rear wheels reveal some damage, one explanation could be that Woods may possibly have clipped something.

We already knew that the all-new 2015 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG Coupe will make its debut this summer, so it is not a surprise that the German manufacturer unveiled the new vehicle today. As expected, the new S65 AMG Coupe is powered by the same engine found on the S65 AMG Sedan, which means it uses a 6.0-liter V12 engine that generates 630 hp (463 kW) and 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft) of torque.

As a result, the S65 AMG Coupe sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.1 seconds, while top speed is electronically limited at 250 km/h or 155 mph. Fuel consumption is 11.9 litres per 100 km as per NEDC combined, while CO2 emissions are 279 g/km.

The engine is mated to the AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic that delivers the power to the rear wheels and offers three driving modes - Controlled Efficiency (C), Sport (S) and Manual (M) – by pushing a button on the centre console. ECO Start/Stop function is also available and activated in Contolled Efficiency (C) mode.

[UPDATE: The 2015 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG Coupe made its official debut, read all about it here! ] - Back in March, at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz introduced the 2015 S63 AMG Coupe based on the recently introduced S-Class Coupe. Now, the German manufacturer is preparing something new, the Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG Coupe. According to several reports from the German media, it appears that the flagship coupe will make its debut this summer, in July.

Just like the S65 AMG Sedan, we expect the new S65 AMG Coupe to use the same 6.0-liter V12 engine that generates 630 hp (463 kW) and a maximum torque of 1,000 Nm. For those who don’t know, the S65 AMG hits 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.3 seconds and has a top speed electronically limited at 250 km/h (155 mph).

We expect the coupe to be a little quicker than the sedan and hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.2 seconds, while top speed will be the same. An S65 AMG Coupe 4MATIC will also be offered and this model will zoom from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.8 seconds, with a top speed limited at 250 km/h (155 mph).

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG is here and promises to set a new standard in its segment. Powered by a 6.0-liter V12 biturbo engine developing an impressive 630 hp (463 kW) and a maximum torque of 1000 newton metres, the saloon hits 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.3 seconds and has a top speed electronically limited at 250 km/h (155 mph).

Despite these numbers, fuel consumption has been reduced by 2.4 litres per 100 kilometres (NEDC, combined), which means the S65 AMG needs only 11.9 litres per 100 km, making it the world's most fuel-efficient V12 high-performance saloon in terms of power and torque. Furthermore, the 12-cylinder model already meets the requirements of the EU6 emissions standard.

The engine obtaines all of these numbers also thanks to the AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-Tronic seven-speed automatic transmission.

Earlier this month we presented you the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG but rumors regarding the more powerful S65 AMG are already starting to show up. As expected, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG will not receive the new twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 found on the S63 because it will stick with the 6.0-liter V12 twin-turbo engine.

If the current S65 AMG delivers 621 hp, the 2014MY S65 AMG will receive a slight bump in output, probably around 630 hp and around 1,000 Nm of torque (737 lb-ft) as some sources mentioned. Still, the curb weight of the 2014 S65 AMG will be 200 pounds less than its predecessor.

We expect the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG to zoom from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than four seconds. Regarding its debut, Car and Driver says that the S65 AMG will arrive in November at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show, while deliveries will begin in March 2014.

Mercedes-AMG won't be so silent about its performance aspirations as the high-performance arm of Mercedes-Benz unveiled another hardcore model at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. This time around, the performance division is giving more oomph to the new generation of the Mercedes GLE by taking the veil off the new Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4MATIC+.

Carlex Design isn't a beginner with regards to tuning the Mercedes-Benz X-Class. In fact, it has even created a version with Maybach-like appearance and features. It has also created Off-Road-focused and Urban-tailored versions. Now, Carlex Design seems to be not contented with how far it has gone with the X-Class and is now presenting a new concept design for the luxury SUV from Mercedes.

Indeed, the Mercedes-Benz X-Class represents the luxury side of pickup trucks. While offering a drive that is comparable to a sports utility vehicle, the X-Class also delivers a smooth, comfortable ride that is expected of luxurious vehicles. Furthermore, it is laden with features usually found in premium cars. But at Carlex Design, the X-Class can be turned into luxurious 6x6 beast off the road. This can be well seen on the new X-Class Exy 6x6 Concept by Carlex Design.

The X-Class Exy 6x6 Concept is essentially the X-Class evolved into a whole new luxurious beast. It is much different from Carlex Design’s previous re-imaginations of Mercedes’ luxury pickup. The concept pickup has six wheels – two wheels more than a standard X-Class and previous Carlex Design X-Class creations. This also meant an extra axle on the rear section of this X-Class 6x6. The addition of two wheels naturally resulted to an extended bed, allowing this conversion of the X-Class to load and carry a greater volume of cargo.

Plug-in hybrid vehicles are increasingly the mobility of choice for many people. For short drives around the city or urban areas, plug-in hybrid can be switched to all-electric mode for a zero-emission driving experience. However, current plug-in hybrids can only offer up to 50 km (31 miles) of all-electric range.

Mercedes-Benz is hoping to break the status quo by not just surpassing the 50-km barrier, but also offering up to 100 km (62 miles) in pure electric range. Quite a number of plug-in hybrids still offer 30 km of electric range, while there is an increasing number of models that are engineered to reach 50 km.

As divulged by Ola Kallenius, head of Daimler group research and Mercedes-Benz cars development, the upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLE PHEV will be the first plug-in hybrid to offer a 100-km range, as per WLTP cycle.

The battle for supremacy in China among premium SUVs with long wheelbases will soon hot as Mercedes-Benz reveals the long-wheelbase version of the GLC. The new Mercedes-Benz GLC L will only be sold in the Chinese market and will compete against the long-wheelbase variant of the Audi Q5 crossover (Q5 L). Mercedes-Benz is expected to unveil the new GCL L to the public at the Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition in November 2018.

When compared, the new Mercedes-Benz GLC L basically looks like the regular wheelbase version – just like any extended model being sold in the Chinese market. However, the long wheelbase variant of the GCL does appear extended on the side because of its now stretched length. This is evident beyond the B-pillars of the new GLC L, where the roofline looks to have grown longer. This is also evident when looking at its rear doors, which now appear to be longer than those in the regular wheelbase version of the GLC SUV.

For its exact dimensions, the new Mercedes GCL L measures around 4.76 meters (187.6 inches) in overall length as well as 1.89 meters (74.7 inches) in overall width. Its wheelbase – the main focus of this version – has grown by around 100 mm (3.93 inches). An extended wheelbase typically results to larger space in the rear cabin, given rear passengers more room to operate, especially with their legs. Since many people in China tend to be chauffeured off than to drive, vehicles with long wheelbases are a hit in this part of the world. Nonetheless, Mercedes will offer both versions of the GLC – regular model and the L variant – in China.

German premium carmaker Mercedes-Benz has created a new plug-in hybrid vehicle that combines the power of two technologies –electricity (battery) and fuel cell (hydrogen). In short distances, it relies on pure electricity. When there is a need to travel over long distance, this plug-in hybrid relies on the power of fuel cell. This is the new Mercedes-Benz GLC F-CELL PHEV.

Using the Mercedes GLC as the base, this technological showcase isn't a futuristic vehicle, but is a real SUV that will be delivered to customers at the end of October 2018. It was originally envisioned as a plug-in hybrid, but now represents an important step by the German carmaker in the development of fuel cell technology.

As engineered, the Mercedes GLC F-CELL PHEV features four operating modes: Battery, Charge, F-Cell and Hybrid. All operating modes are supported by an energy recovery function that allows energy to be recovered during braking or coasting, then store it in the lithium-ion battery.

In terms of performance, the Mercedes-AMG GT – whether in its base or R version -- already packs a good punch. Nonetheless, several tuning companies have already created their own version of the AMG GT, and they all managed to create a greater monster out of the "Beast of the Green Hell." Now, it is the turn of Fostla, a tuning firm from Germany, to show off its own formula of steroids for the AMG GT.

First off, Fostla saw it fit to make the AMG GT look meaner on the road. This entails the fitment of a number of aftermarket parts and components. While these aftermarket parts and components should make the AMG GT become visually more appealing and more dynamic, they should give these beast an aerodynamic advantage.

To achieve this, Fostla saw it suitable to install a widebody kit, which aftermarket package was provided by Prior Design. This widebody kit gave the AMG GT wider hips as well as a rear wing. Prior Design’s aftermarket package likewise includes a number of aerodynamic elements like front and rear flicks as well as a meaner rear diffuser. Up front, the stock front grille of the AMG GT was replaced with a blacked-out configuration evoking the Panamericana grille.
