Honoring the brand’s bestsellers, Mercedes-Benz has just come up with an “AMG-fied” package both for the GLA and the CLA models. The most significant changes we’ve noticed only goes to the interior and exterior enhancements.

Nevertheless, the Mercedes-Benz GLA45 is now equipped with the AMG-fied 375hp 2.0 litre inline four cylinder engine with up to 350lb-ft of powerful torque. With a top speed of 155mph, the compact SUV can go from 0-60 mph from a standstill in as short as 4.3 seconds.

The new concept from Mercedes-Benz -- the CLA 45 AMG Racing Series Concept – was displayed at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA). This new concept is believed to be a preview for another customer sport racing car built by Mercedes-AMG. The CLA 45 AMG Racing Series is aimed at this very popular race series that features 2.0-litre turbocharged cars.

It may even reach international shores if there’s sufficient demand. Notably, the engine output and power transmission may vary. It’s possible that it may feature permanent all-wheel drive or purely front-wheel drive just like in the standard version. The CLA’s racing version will be getting a special suspension as well as a wider track at the front and rear.

The vehicle also permits several adjustments for an individual racetrack setup. Other aspects that can be adjusted are the suspension level, spring rate and damper characteristics similar to the track and camber at the front and rear axles. In addition, the racing car comes with an AMG high-performance braking system with ventilated discs all-round and is fitted with an anti-lock system.

In Mercedes-Benz’s ad for the new 2014 CLA, the automaker let it slip that it will soon release a CLA45 AMG. It had already been expected that the company was developing an AMG version of the CLA. The four-door coupe has the same underpinnings as the A-Class so it can be presumed that the uprated, direct-injected 2.0-liter turbo-four from the upcoming A45 AMG will also be used in the CLA.

In the A45, this engine has an output of 350 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. So it’s probable that the CLA45 will have similar or even identical figures. The AMG suite is also offered with a specially-tuned 4Matic all-wheel drive system that could deliver as much as 60% of the power to the rear wheels. This represents a major dynamic advantage for the normally front-wheel-drive A- and CLA-Class.

These powertrain revisions lead to an excellent performance. As a result, the vehicle can accelerate from zero to 62mph in 4.6 seconds and it can reach a top speed of 155 mph. But with an optional performance package, it can reach 175 mph. This package will be dubbed as an S-Model version, similar to the 2014 E63 AMG. The confirmation that the CLA-Class will certainly lead to an AMG variant is courtesy of an annotation on Mercedes’ own YouTube video.
