2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE is the official M-Class replacement

Mercedes-Benz just took the wraps off its all-new GLE a.k.a. the redesigned M-Class, which promises to set new benchmark with regard to emissions and drive system possible. Regarding the design, the front end of the vehicle is not new as we’ve seen the lines on the GLE Coupe.

As you can see from the photos, the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE shows redesigned headlights inspired by vehicles such as the S- and C-Class models, a stylish front grille and new bumpers. Moreover, we find redesigned taillights, inspired by those found on the current version.

Meanwhile, the interior shows a larger media display which is now partially integrated into the instrument panel, centre air vents next to the display as well as outer air vents framed by silver shadow surrounds. The most interesting thing is the addition of the GLE 500 e 4Matic, Mercedes-Benz’ first plug-in hybrid SUV.

Mercedes-Benz M-Class will change name into GLE-Class starting next year

As you may know already, BMW started to overhaul its naming scheme last year when the 3-Series Coupe became the 4-Series Coupe and when the 1-Series Coupe became the 2-Series Coupe. It appears that another German car manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz, will follow BMW. After it changed the CL-Class into S-Class Coupe, Mercedes-Benz decided to rename one of its most popular SUVs.

The latest reports indicate that the M-Class will change its name because the German carmaker wants a new naming structure where its SUVs and CUVs will start with G. As a result, the M-Class will become GLE-Class, while the production version of the Concept Coupe SUV will arrive as the GLE Coupe.

And the news continues because the GLK-Class will become GLC-Class because it will be based on the C-Class. In addition, the coupe version of the GLC-Class will be called GLC Coupe.

Mercedes-AMG GLE43 gets power upgrade for the 2018 model year

Earlier this year, we had the chance to test the Mercedes-AMG GLE43. That time, the GLE43 had a 3.0-liter biturbo V6 engine that was capable of producing an impressive 362 horsepower. We were quite impressed with the six-cylinder mill considering that the car weighed almost 5,000 pounds. Now, the company decided they would give the 2018 model year an extra push of 23 horsepower, now giving it a maximum of 385 horsepower for the “43” model.

The sporty model will still be equipped with the same nine-speed automatic transmission that gives power to the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. But the other GLE models will only be getting a seven-speed gear box. As for performance, we have not heard from Mercedes USA just yet, but we do know that the previous year model could sprint from 0 to 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) in just 5.6 seconds, while continuing to a top speed of 130 miles per hour (209 kph).

With this performance upgrade, we would naturally expect a price increase as well. The 2018 model year GLE43 now starts at $67,750 MSRP - that is $600 more than its predecessor. If the GLE43 is not fast enough for you, then you can opt for the more powerful GLE63 model that will cost you almost double at $102,550. The “63” model can give out 550 horsepower, or you can even go all out with the 577 horsepower GLE63, which starts at $109,700. These models can now be had with additional wood trims as part of the 2018 upgrade.

Mercedes-Benz goes zesty with its GLE Coupe OrangeArt Edition

Mercedes-Benz will release more premium edition variants of its latest models that are closely based on the same concept of the SLC RedArt and SL design Edition. The car in question is the new GLE Coupe OrangeArt Edition which offers a model-specific upgrade.

In a bid to attract more consumers, the German marque will be offering its pseudo SUV-coupe with the premium edition treatment. The new variant is offered in a couple of black shades as well as in white, gray or silver hues. But what is eye-catching is that the Coupe can be aesthetically known for its orange accents of the rim flange and front apron.

Various eye-catchers in Orange lend the coupe a sporty look, and with its striking contrast, they give the vehicle a stylish vibe. The OrangeArt Edition Coupe also flaunts 21-inch alloy wheels directly from AMG's portfolio and will be offered as standard with a black LED ring meant for the headlights. The exterior's upgrades are only up to here, sorry to burst your bubble.

Bulletproof cars and trucks are found in all parts of the world for safety purposes. However, adding a bulletproof glass, run-flat tires, Kevlar and other protective equipment is no easy task as these can add weight to the already heavy vehicle. But this is the specialty of Russian tuner Topcar Design, which guarantees to modify your vehicle to make it more badass. Take the newly modified Mercedes-Benz GLE Guard for example, a sophisticated vehicle that is now a prime example of a vehicle that you don’t want to mess with. And the best feature of this beast? Its classy all-white interior.

TopCar Design is a luxury car tuning company that was founded in Moscow around 2004, and is considered as one of the pioneer Russian tuning companies. Do the vehicle’s aesthetic standards appeal to you more than its performance? If so, TopCar’s version of the Mercedes-Benz GLE 350d not only looks mean but it also comes with a meaner price tag --- It’s almost like buying an “AMG-fied” GLE63 S Coupe. That being the case, there definitely is a lot more you can do to make it run just as fast or to simply improve its overall performance. Which would you rather have?

To compare it with the AMG 63 S, the GLE 350d dressed up in TopCar’s Inferno body kit is priced at around $113,000 while the set of 22-inch Lumma Design Wheels can be bought separately at more or less 6,900 USD. On the other hand, you can get the AMG-modified Mercedes-Benz for 110,650 USD. In other words, this makes the diesel engined Inferno close to the price range of an AMG.

If you’re leaning towards fuel economy, then an AMG might not be for you. You may have to bring down your expectations. A standard GLE 350d Coupe boasts an average of 6.9 liters per 100 kilometers combined fuel consumption. Besides, it has enough power to hit 62 mph from a standstill in just seven seconds.

Mercedes-Benz USA has announced the release of the 2017 Mercedes-AMG GLE43 SUV. In addition to being the ninth model of the new AMG 43 range, the GLE43 will, by the early part of the 2017, replace the GLE400 as the performance-oriented version.

While this newest offering is indeed a family vehicle that is both practical and luxurious, it is equipped with the latest in driver assistance and safety technologies, as expected from the brand. The inside offers enough space for five adults to sit in comfort with the cargo space at the back of the rear seats offering 38.2 cubic feet. With the seats lowered, the space increases to 80.3 cubic feet.

Occupants are likely to enjoy being inside the GLE43 given that the front seats have been heated and a power sunroof is available, both fitted as standard. Additionally, the ventilated seats come with three cooling and heating levels. There is even a heated steering wheel being offered.

At the get go, the GLE 63 from Mercedes-Benz comes with a commanding appearance. This is true especially under the AMG style. Now here comes the TopCar version, called Inferno. There have been a number of takes on this mid-sized luxury crossover but with the Inferno package, TopCar has managed to come up with its own version of the GLE to give it a look that is more aggressive.

This aggressiveness is likely due to the fact that one look at this particular offering and it immediately brings to mind the Star Wars universe, particularly Stormtroopers or even Shoretroopers.

Russia-based tuning company had previously released a GLE Coupe with the Inferno where components of the exterior have been infused with carbon. Indeed, TopCar managed to put carbon fiber on each component of the body kit and all of these at a starting price of €20,205 ($22,580). These components include, among others, the bonnet, grille, side skirts, door handles, front bumper, rear diffuser, and trunk lid. TopCar is even offering to place a customized logo to replace the three-pointed star with a shark.

Brabus’ team of designers and engineers rose to the challenge of transforming this new Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe into an SUV coupe that takes the top spot when it comes to performance. A turbocharged V8 engine sits under the hood of the new BRABUS 850 6.0 Biturbo 4x4 Coupe.

With a displacement of 6 liters, the engine has been rated at 625 kW / 850 HP (838 bhp) and 1,450 Nm (1,069 lb-ft) of torque. What results is a powerful engine that can launch a car to 100 km/h or 62 mph in a span of just 3.8 seconds from a standstill.

This is also thanks to the SUV’s lightweight design, as the vehicle weighs slightly more than 2,350 kilograms (5,180 pounds). The electronic limiter on the engine, however, keeps the car at just 320 km per hour or 200 mph for its top speed.

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz M-Class has been given the Top Safety Pick + award thanks to its “Good” rating in the small overlap crash test. This newest test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has been a challenge that many vehicles have failed to overcome.

This rating, a first for any Mercedes model, can be applied to 2014 M-Class models made after August 2013, as Mercedes-Benz has reinforced the door sills of the M-Class to make it perform better in the small overlap test.

Apparently, these modifications were effective since the IIHS has determined that the M-Class was able to maintain the driver’s space well. This means that there’s a low risk of significant injuries. In addition, the M-Class got “Good” ratings in all other IIHS tests, including moderate overlap front, side crash test, roof strength, and head restraints and seats.

Although it was just a rumor it appears that Mercedes-Benz will indeed take on the BMW X6. As expected, the car will be based on the Mercedes-Benz M-Class and the new car will use the same running gear found on its brother. An AMG version is also planned and it will use the same engine found on the ML63 AMG.

Asked why Mercedes-Benz decided to build such as car, an executive said that due to the ample demand but also due to the fact that it involves reduced engineering work and costs. The new crossover will be sold in the United States, China and Europe. Still, Mercedes-Benz is currently chasing BMW into a sub-segment, which is not very big or glamorous.

Still, the BMW X6 is quite popular and this is what Mercedes-Benz wants. Despite its success, other carmakers failed to impress with their X6-styled crossovers, such as Acura with its ZDX or the Honda Crosstour. We shall see if the new Mercedes-Benz MLC will be different when it will hit the dealerships by 2014.

For those who want to feel even safer in a Mercedes-Benz M-Class, the German manufacturer offers the M-Class Guard, the armoured version of the popular SUV. This means that besides the impressive design, the car will also be capable to keep the bullets away from the interior.

As a result, the M-Class Guard is fitted with windows of the highest optical quality Special laminated glazing with a uniform thickness all-round, polycarbonate layer on inside to protect against shards. Moreover, the M-Class Guard comes with special steel used in the A-, B- and C- pillars and the firewall and roof.

The new M-Guard meets the requirements of protection level VR4 according to testing guidelines BRV 2009 for special-protection vehicles with bullet resistance (according to Bullet Resistant Vehicles 2009). This ballistic classification designates ballistic resistance (VR = Vehicle Resistance) in terms of the weapons and calibre: in this case, among others, Magnum .357 and .44.

Automakers have been downsizing their engines; some have even gone as far as dropping six-cylinders totally. However, Mercedes-Benz continues to offer fours and sixes in its C-Class. But then, there’s only one engine option for the 4Matic all-wheel drive in a four-door C-Class. In addition, the M-Class SUVs will receive upgraded safety technology throughout its range for 2013.

The C-Class line will get a new engine for the C300 4Matic model. The decklid numerology now only has little direct correlation to engine displacement just like majority of the existing Mercedes-Benz and BMW models. The 2012 model was powered by an engine with a literal 3.0 liters. On the other hand, the 2013 C300 has a 3.5-liter V-6 that delivers 248 hp and 251 lb-ft of torque.

This stands for an increase in output of 20 hp and 30 lb-ft of torque compared to last year’s model. The fuel economy of the new engine is much better than the smaller engine used on last year’s model. This permits the 2013 C300 to get an EPA rating of 20 city and 28 highway, compared to the 17/24 rating last year. All the V-6 C-Class models for 2013 will receive auto stop-start.
