Mercedes-Benz S600 Pullman Guard used by Vladimir Putin is for sale online

Second-hand or used cars are usually appreciated because of their lower prices. Some used-car buyers hit the jackpot when they chance upon a car that has been well maintained and managed – and with less than 10,000 km on the odometer sold at a low price.

However, there are used cars that even go beyond their book value simply because they were formerly owned by famous celebrities – like athletes, actors or actresses, singers, talk show hosts, local heroes or even politicians. Fans and collectors would surely line up to get such vehicles even at a price higher than their book values.

But what if that car used to ferry the current top man of the Russian Federation in his first term as the second president of the country? As the private seller (a certain Sergei Urov) claims, this GUARD Mercedes-Benz S600 Pullman used to be one of the rides of current Russia President of Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. And this limousine-type vehicle is being sold at mobile.de -- which tags itself as the largest online vehicle market in Germany – for a whopping $1.3 million, which could be around ten times than the normal worth of a car of this type.

The Scaldarsi Emperor I is a big no-no for Mercedes-Maybach S600 purists and fans

When people get their sweet rides into the hands of some tuning companies, chances are it’s in for an extra something – or more. We’ve been used to seeing auto tuning companies the likes of Mansory do more than just enough to some of its projects. Not all come to like the over-the-top impact. Some of their tuning projects have received more than a few dejected reactions from purists and fans alike, most likely in the way that these tuning companies have turned once-beautiful pieces into a hideous collection of metal and steel.

But throw out all thoughts that that they’ve retired from the practice of turning a handsome car into a horrifying piece of metal. Just recently, Scaldarsi unveiled their newest collection called the Emperor collection; and the first amongst 11 models to get the emperor treatment is the Mercedes-Maybach S600 which they have called the Scaldarsi Emperor I. From what we’ve seen so far, the car gets an 11 score on the bad-taste scale because most people think the auto tuner could’ve done more than ruin the image of the already glamorous S600. We just can’t un-see.

How bad is it you ask? Well first of all, the car looks already stunning on the outside except that the so-called artists who worked on it thought it fun to put some 24-karat rose gold accents. Rose gold is certainly a thing now but who does that with their car, right? The rose gold accent really does pop out but it does not mean that it looks good on an S600. Other than that, the company made a new front fascia and did a bit of modification such as side and rear treatments.

After years of poor sales and massive losses, Daimler has finally decided to drop the Maybach super luxury brand in two years. Starting in 2013, the car will be replaced with the more expensive Mercedes-Benz S-Class flagship saloon. In an interview with German daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, CEO Dieter Zetsche said that internally, extensive talks were held on which approach would have the most potential in the luxury segment.

He explained that the company then concluded that there would be no sense in developing a successor model for the present Maybach. Daimler has set a target for Maybach to have volumes of 1,000 cars annually. However, Maybach’s slump continued in 2010 with sales of just 200 cars.

“We’ve come to the conclusion that it is better to cut our losses with Maybach than to continue into an uncertain future with a brand that has failed to live up to original sales expectations," the insider said. "Plans are already in place to fill the void left by the axing of the Maybach 57 and 62 with the next-generation S-class, which will be offered in three wheelbase variations and six different body styles, including a top-of-the-range S600 Pullman.”

Owing to the many improvements done, the S-Class guarantees that the interior comes with a high level of luxury. Created using the preferences of customers, Gut Wiesenhof, Mercedes-Benz’s in-house upholsterer, is able to convert the cockpit to meet the needs of individuals, much like a tailor making a suit. The company is offering a basic package starting at 5,290 euros. The package includes leather on the seats on the front, as well as the seat bench in the rear and the head rests, and the four door panels. At no additional charge, customers can select the color for the leather, the stitching, and even the piping.

Engraved on the headrests is the Carlsson logo which also appears as a blue lit-up signature on the door sill. This same logo highlights as well the improvements done on its aluminum pedals and the footrest. The pigmented leather is supplied by the best and experienced upholsterers, who use leather that has a feel similar to a fine leather glove. This is present on the steering wheel, middle arm rest, and dashboard, though available as an option.

Since the S Class Carlsson has indeed been refined, it reinforces its reputation as the authority when it comes to enhancing Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
