The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing is definitely a classic beauty. Surely, getting your hands on any of the surviving Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing examples is worth the money -- that is if you have deep pockets to reach into.
So if you really want it, perhaps you would like to take part in a March auction event in Amelia Island, Florida, in which a 1954 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing is one of the lots that will placed under the hammer.
The Mercedes 300 SL first made its debut in 1952 as the Mercedes W194 racer underpinned by a welded aluminum tube spaceframe chassis and powered by a 3.0-liter SOHC straight-6 engine.Read the entire article 1954 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing up for sale on RM Sotheby’s Amelia Island event in March

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz SL is reportedly to share the same platform with an Mercedes-AMG GT. Not exactly the one you’ve seen on the photos that have previously surfaced on the Internet. Speculations developed after a supposedly shorter SL Coupe was caught being tested at the Green Hell several weeks ago. But recent reports suggest otherwise.
Autocar says that Mercedes-Benz is now considering an AMG GT platform and will likely come with four types of engines. It is also believed that the SL65 and SL600’s V12 engines may no longer be included in their options. This is probably because of the stricter guidelines with regard to emissions.
Instead, there’s going to be a choice between the E63’s 603hp 5.5 litre V8 twin turbocharger, a couple of turbocharged 6-cylinders with either 450hp or 402 hp and a 470hp 4.0 litre V8.Read the entire article 2019 Mercedes-Benz SL will share platform with the AMG GT

The Mercedes-Benz SL has already achieved iconic status and doesn’t really need the boost; nevertheless, the new 2017 SL comes with technical and aesthetic improvements that make it all the more enticing. Set to be launched in the U.S. in the spring of next year, the new SL has become even more dynamic with the availability of more powerful engines.
In addition, it is offered with the 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission, Active Body Control with the curve tilting function, and DYNAMIC SELECT with its five transmission modes. It’s now more versatile and is perfect for daily use with its automatic trunk separator and a vario-roof that functions even when the car is moving as fast as 25mph.
The front end is sportier with its updated hood, headlamps, and bumper. It doesn’t take much to convince a potential buyer of the Mercedes-Benz SL’s glowing qualities. It can’t be denied that it is the car that comes to mind when people imagine a stylish roadster ideal for cruising or a sporty coupe for fun out-of-town trips.Read the entire article 2017 Mercedes-Benz SL has updated looks, now offered with more powerful engines

Back in April, Mercedes-Benz introduced in Europe the new SL400, a new model powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine developing 333 hp (245 kW) at 5,250 to 6,000 rpm and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) of torque at 1,600 to 4,000 rpm. Today, we found out thanks to Autoblog that the 2015 Mercedes-Benz SL400 available also in the United States and has a starting price of $84,000 excluding the $925 destination charge.
We also observed that the US-spec SL400 comes with 329 hp, but it is still a fast car as it can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 5.1 seconds. So, if you don’t want the SL550, which comes with a 4.7-liter biturbo V8 and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 4.5 seconds, the SL400 could be the perfect choices.
Also the $22,900 difference looks pretty interesting as the SL500 is priced at $106,900 excluding the $925 destination charge of course.Read the entire article 2015 Mercedes-Benz SL400 gets a $84,000 price tag in the US and a twin-turbo V6
The Mercedes-Benz SL Roadster family has just received a new member: ladies and gentlemen, this is the SL400. Comparing it with its predecessor, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz SL400 is not powered by a naturally aspirated engine, as it comes with a six-cylinder unit fitted with two turbochargers. For those who don’t know, the SL400 actually replaces the SL350, which is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine.
The new 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine found on the SL400 generates 333 hp (245 kW) at 5250 to 6000 rpm and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) of torque at 1600 to 4000 rpm. Despite the fact that it is smaller than its predecessor, the power of 3.0-liter V6 engine has risen by 27 hp (20 kW). Torque was also increased by 110 Nm and as we said is available in the engine speed range of 1600 to 4000 rpm.
The engine can push the SL400 from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.2 seconds and has a top speed electronically limited at 250 km/h or 155 mph. Fuel consumption is 7.3 l/100 km, which translates into CO2 emissions of 172 g/km. Just like all BlueDIRECT petrol engines, the biturbo V6 works with a direct injection system with spray-guided combustion and Mercedes-Benz was the first carmaker to offer it in series production.Read the entire article 2014 Mercedes-Benz SL400 makes it debut powered by twin-turbo V6 engine

Back in 2008, we saw the first Coupetorino based on the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class and honestly we were speechless and we did like the idea of a shooting brake variant of the well-known coupe-cabriolet. Due to the fact that Mercedes-Benz rolled off a new generation of the SL, Italian design house StudioTorino revealed the Coupetorino 2013, a shooting brake version of the new SL.
The new car was designed by six students - Michele Bavaro, Bruno Arena, Dario Pellegrino, Stefano Manini, Riccardo Luigi Cascone, Cristiano Zanot – in collaboration with Steffen Koehl from Global Advance Design Mercedes-Benz. The students made a 1:4 scale model of the vehicle but this is not just a simple design, as they had to take into account production costs.
Although we don’t have any details regarding the engine, we believe that the 4.6-liter V8 engine found on the SL550 would be the perfect choice as it delivers 429 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. Using a 7-speed Driver-Adaptive automatic transmission, the SL550 is able to zoom from 0 to 96 km/h (60 mph) in 4.5 seconds and has a top speed electronically limited to 155 mph or 250 km/h.Read the entire article Coupetorino 2013 is a stylish Mercedes-Benz SL shooting brake

The new Mercedes-Benz SL – the most aerodynamically efficient sports vehicle – is now on sale. It has a cd of 0.27 for the 350. Not since the 1959 Porsche 356A has there been a sports vehicle as aerodynamic as this. Dr Teddy Woll, a Mercedes-Benz aerodynamicist, disclosed that the Porsche had a drag coefficient of 0.29.
He added that over the last 50 years, this trend has been for higher drag as engine and wheels became larger. With the new SL, the trend has been reversed. The B-class with an eco package has an even lower coefficient, being at 0.24. However, reducing a drag is a constant struggle.
The industry, at best, has only paid lip service to aerodynamic efficiency, if not largely ignored, for many years. However, the need for even lower carbon dioxide emissions is giving new thrust for the works of the aerodynamicist.Read the entire article 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL is the most aerodynamic sports car ever
All roads are ready for the launch of the innovative Mercedes-Benz SL 63 AMG in May 2012. Touted as an actual lightweight, the SL 63 AMG is poised to become a heavyweight on its category. Indeed the SL 63 AMG is now 125 kilograms lighter than its previous version due to its all-aluminum body shell similar to that of the SLS AMG super sports car.
Its improvements include the use of the super car’s high-performance power source. The standard SLS 63 AMG is powered by the AMG 5.5-litre V8 'biturbo' (twin-turbocharged) engine that provides 395 kW (537 hp) of output and 800 Nm of torque. This allows the SLS 63 AMG to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds and to 200 km/h in 12.9 seconds, and to reach a top speed of 250 km/h mph, which is electronically limited.
A customer may choose to get the upgraded option, which features the AMG Performance package. The package significantly boosts the car’s already high output to 415 kW (564 hp) and 900 Nm. This provides SLS 63 AMG with enough power to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds and to reach 200 km/h in 12.6 seconds, and cruise to a top speed of 300 km/h mph, which is also electronically limited. With the AMG Performance package, one could own a car whose power is above all its rivals in the segment.Read the entire article 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL 63 AMG: photo update
