A favorite amongst collectors, the 300 SL Gullwing is one iconic car - probably the most iconic Mercedes-Benz of all time. Today, a well-maintained example will sell for a seven-digit price tag.
But not all of them cost that much. The one we have today will be sold in the market for $125,000 to $135,000 when it goes in the auction room at the RM Sotheby’s Santa Monica in California later this week.
The Gullwing that will go on sale this weekend has a fibreglass body, but underneath its body is a 2002 Mercedes-Benz SLK 32 AMG - this was purchased over two years ago from Mercedes Benz’ dealers in Houston and was fitted inside the 300 SL Gullwing replica.Read the entire article RM Sotheby’s will auction off SLK-based Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing replica

Pricing details for Mercedes-Benz’s SLK 55 AMG have been announced. This model, which is regarded as the most powerful SLK ever built, has a road price of £54,950. It is equipped with a new, naturally aspirated, direct-injection version of AMG’s 5.5-litre V8 engine, which drives power through the rear wheels via a seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission.
The new V8 engine has an output of 421hp at 6,800rpm and 540Nm of torque at 4,500rpm, enabling the vehicle to achieve a 0-62mph acceleration time of only 4.6 seconds to reach a limited top speed of 155mph.
What’s amazing is that fuel economy and CO2 emissions are lower by 30%. This was achieved by installing AMG’s Cylinder Management System comparable to what’s used on the Mercedes-Benz Formula 1 engines. This deactivates two cylinders on each bank of the V8 when the car is operating on light throttle loads.Read the entire article 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG UK price

The athletic ethos is also evident in the spoiler, body treatments and chrome tailpipes. The roadster will enable the eight cylinders propel the car to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds en route to an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. Its torque rating is at 398 lb-ft.

This engine is coupled to a standard 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission. By the second quarter of 2012, a six-speed manual transmission is expected to follow. This is the 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK, the third-generation of the popular coupe-cabriolet from the German manufacturer, which promises to deliver an improved driving pleasure and open-air enjoyment. For those who don’t know, the Mercedes-Benz SLK made quite a buzz back in 1996, when the first generation was introduced, due to the vario-roof, which transformed the wide-open roadster into a coupe.

The new headlights are inspired by the the legendary 190 SL from the 1950s, which is regarded by many as being the original “SLK”. The new design also improves the Coefficient of drag (Cd), which has been cut to just 0.30 from 0.32. The profile of the car shows the classic roadster proportions, while the fine details and quotes show the care that has been taken by the Mercedes-Benz designers.Read the entire article 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK: official details, photos, specs and prices
