An enhanced BlueEFFICIENCY package will be introduced on the Mercedes-Benz Vito and Viano in September 2011. This package will have a new generator management system that is aimed at reducing fuel consumption. When braking, part of the kinetic energy produced is converted by the new generator management system into electric energy, which is then stored in the battery.
The added energy in the system means that the alternator may be restricted under certain operating conditions, such as during acceleration.
This lessens the strain on the combustion engine. The intelligent alternator functions independently and is imperceptible to the driver. The battery quickly recharges since the power electronics increases the alternator voltage as required.Read the entire article Mercedes-Benz Vito and Viano to receive the BlueEFFICIENCY package
