Mini creates one-off Cooper S for Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

The MINI Cooper S, a standard hardtop with two doors that is great for everyday use, has been transformed into a posh hatchback that is perfect for the royal family. The so-called royal Mini had been developed by Mini Design especially for the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on May 19th. The Mini Cooper S has been given a beautiful Crystal White finish with an intricate roof featuring a handmade, multi coloured graphic.

The paint has several layers and was also completed by hand. Furthermore, they had to ensure to combine elements of Prince Harry’s flag, the Union Jack, as well as Meghan Markle’s national flag, Stars and Stripes. There are five white stripes on the roof, which corresponds with the hood where there are silver and blue accent stripes that can also be seen on the rear fenders.

The side scuttles around the side turn signal indicators were made with 3D printing technology, and these were adorned by the “M” and “H” initials, with a heart in between the letters. To cap off the exterior changes, there are door mounted LEDs that will project the words “Just Married” on the ground.

BMW will reduce fuel economy in four 2014 MINI Cooper models

Earlier this month, Mercedes-Benz announced that it will reduce fuel economy ratings of some MY2013-2014 C-Class sedans after EPA found errors in mpg test procedures. Today, EPA announced that another German carmaker will follow the same path.

We are talking about BMW AG, which will reduce fuel economy labels on four 2014 Cooper models after the United States Environmental Protection Agency tested the vehicles and observed that they actually are not as fuel-efficient as the Bavarian carmaker said.

EPA tested the vehicles at the National Vehicle and Fuel Emissions Laboratory in Ann Arbor, Michigan and ordered BMW to relabel four of its 2014 MINI Cooper models. Affected models are the MINI Cooper hardtop equipped with manual and automatic transmission and the MINI Cooper S hardtop with manual and automatic transmission.

MINI debuts the all-new Cooper SD, MINI One First models

2014 MINI Cooper SD continues to remain on its path for growth. As of July 2014, the engine range for the MINI, particularly in the small car premium segment, has continued to expand especially after the success of its market launch. In the future, the selection is expected to include the MINI Cooper SD as having the most power for the diesel engine variant and a new petrol engine for the MINI One First model.

These two models will offer an impressive favorable balance between fuel consumption and driving fun. There are now seven completely and newly developed power units available for cars produced at the British MINI’s Oxford plant. These include three diesel and four petrol engines. The new engines come in three or four cylinders and are paired with the MINI TwinPower Turbo Technology that allows for a boost in the efficiency and agility of the new MINI.

This is seen as well in the newest addition to the program. The engine of the MINI Cooper is perhaps the most power diesel engine under the MINI brand. The 4-cylinder 2.0-liter engine for example allows for 170 horsepower in output and 360 Nm of maximum torque at 1,500 rpm. The MINI TwinPower Turbo Technology includes a turbocharging system that has common rail injection and variable turbine geometry having magnet valve injectors that can operate at 2,000 bar of maximum pressure.

Audi is thinking about creating a small car for the U.S. market that has the same size as a Mini, according to a report from Edmunds. In a recent interview, Scott Keogh, Audi of America president, said that the company is focused on the redesigned Audi A1, which is scheduled to start selling in Europe in around four years. Keogh said that the company sees a prime opportunity based on the change in demographics as well as the CAFÉ standards, among other things.

He said that the company will make an in-depth examination of the second generation of the car. CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) refers to a broad range of U.S fuel economy regulations that all car companies would need to comply with. Specifically, automakers have to raise the combined fuel economy of their vehicles by 4% each year through 2025.

He also said that a shift in the U.S. population will increase the demand for small luxury cars. He believes that the U.S. is “urbanizing dramatically.” He added that plenty of rich people are going back to the cities so they will be viewing smaller car concepts. The present-generation A1 is a high-selling, well-reviewed hatchback offered in Europe. The three-door model started selling in late 2010 while the five-door Sportback was added in late 2011.

As we told you in this article, MINI unveiled today the all-new MINI John Cooper Works GP, an extreme version of its popular car that promises to deliver impressive performance on both the race track and the road. The bad news is that if you want one you’d have to hurry up as MINI will only build a limited run of 2,000 cars.

The car is not quite finished as the British manufacturer owned by BMW Group is currently completing a program of testing in preparation for series production. According to the carmaker, a part of this program involved setting an impressive fastest lap of the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife circuit ever achieved in a MINI.

The new MINI John Cooper Works GP managed to lap the well-known German race track in 8 min. 23 sec. This makes the sporty little car a serious competitor for numerous sports car from loftier perches. Moreover, the new MINI John Cooper Works GP beat the lap time set by its predecessor, MINI Cooper S with John Cooper Works GP Kit, by almost 19 seconds.

The next generation MINI Cooper will be launched later than scheduled but with recent reports of how awesome it is, the anticipation just builds up. The BMW model shares a platform with the next-generation 1 Series and will be arriving first. Meanwhile, the MINI (with the codename F56) will debut in late 2013. Insiders say that these two vehicles have the same underpinnings but they’re very different in other aspects.

The MINI’s new design is “modern”, and is considered to be its most striking evolution while still staying true to the identity of the brand. It’s reported to have a more aggressive appearance, a trend that MINI seems to be following ever since the Coupe was launched.

The new cars are powered by a new 1.5-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder engine, which delivers 120 hp in the base Cooper and produces 180 hp in the Cooper S.

MINI USA has teamed up with MINI of Charleston (South Carolina), making it possible for the MINI Cooper Hardtop to start racing in the B-Spec series for the 2012 race season. The power and weight of these B-Spec vehicles (production-based cars) are equalized so that racing would be very competitive.

There will be B-Spec races in 2012 that will be hosted by all four of the major racing sanctioning bodies (SCCA, Grand Am, NASA and World Challenge). Jim McDowell, Vice President – MINI USA, said that MINI considers B-Spec racing as a “great fit” since the car is inspired by racing.

He also said that the races are participated in by “vehicles very similar to those already sitting in the driveway.” He added that B-Spec racing provides a race environment that’s fun and competitive but MINI drivers aren’t required to invest a large amount of money to make the car formidable on the track.
