Mitsubishi features ASX in its latest campaign in the UK

Mitsubishi Motors in the UK has launched a multi-media campaign that features the ASX. The decision to launch the campaign was prompted by success of Mitsubishi’s return to TV advertising early this year -- for the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) -- after being nowhere to be seen in the last five years.

The campaign – dubbed as Adventure Advanced -- was created by Golley Slater ad was planned and bought by Manning Gottlieb OMD. It will highlight certain attributes of the Mitsubishi ASX like its 4WD capabilities, Action Stability Traction Control, and Intelligent Motion DNA.

Mitsubishi will offer plug-in hybrid versions of ASX, Pajero/Shogun

Mitsubishi already offers a plug-in hybrid version of the Outlander but it appears that its hybrid lineup will get even bigger as the Japanese manufacturer is planning to expand it. Next in line are the hybrid versions of the ASX compact crossover and the Pajero or the Shogun SUV.

According to CEO Osamu Masuko, Mitsubishi will introduce a hybrid version of the ASX in 2017, following the debut of the next-generation in 2016. Meanwhile, the plug-in hybrid version of the Pajero is expected in 2018.

Still, Masuko declined to give any details regarding the plug-in powertrains which will be used on the ASX and Pajero. Mitsubshi is also preparing to update the Outlander plug-in hybrid as it revealed a concept version last week at the 2014 Paris Motor Show.

Mitsubishi expects higher sales in Europe for plug-in hybrid of next ASX

Mitsubishi is expecting sales of a plug-in hybrid version of the next ASX compact SUV to surpass the success of the gasoline and diesel variants in Europe, President Osamu Masuko told Automotive News Europe at the Tokyo Auto Show. Mitsubishi is expected to introduce the ASX successor with a plug-in hybrid variant within three years. At the show, Mitsubishi unveiled the XR-PHEV concept that previews the next ASX.

Masuko remarked that the mainstream variant in mature markets such as Japan and Europe will be the plug-in hybrid version. The vehicle will be the carmaker's second plug-in hybrid after the Outlander, which is already being sold in some markets in Europe.

Mitsubishi introduces the 2012 ASX in the United Kingdom

Mitsubishi Motors introduced the ASX in the United Kingdom this week. This urban crossover vehicle is the first allocation of the automaker for this new model year. Like its predecessor, the vehicle offers the best possible option of stylish, practical and environmentally responsible family automobiles. It is based on the same platform as the Lancer, Lancer Evolution X and Outlander. It also bridges the gap between the automaker's rugged off-roaders and conventional passenger vehicles.

Versatility and practicality are core components to the appeal of the ASX. With its wheelbase matching the Outlander, passenger space is massive. Its flexible seating gives the ASX real versatility for those who are looking for an enjoyable and practical family vehicle.

The vehicle comes in either petrol or diesel power plants. The 12MY 1.8-litre diesel engine benefits from a considerable reduction in CO2 emissions with improved fuel economy, resulting in a new VED band (from Band F to Band E). In this way, the annual road tax cost is reduced to £115. Even without the reduction in VED banding on the petrol derivative, braked towing capacity is increased to 1200kg from 1100kg.

Mitsubishi's 2011 ASX is already making waves in Japan. Dealerships received the car only last Feb. 17 but to date, the company has received 5,169 orders.

The carmaker had initially hoped to sell about 1,500 units each month. The ASX, which is known as the Outlander Sport in the US, is compact and is fuel efficient.

Owners may also opt to outfit the car with four-wheel drive or a CVT. What makes the ASX more appealing is that it is included in Japan's list of small, gas-sipping cars that can take advantage of a tax break.

Mitsubishi has high hopes for the ASX to help it achieve its goal of moving the brand away from large, rugged, gas-guzzling off-roaders to more compact, refined and fuel-efficient SUVs. Mitsubishi expects that sales of the ASX will soon surpass the Colt subcompact to become its topseller in Europe.

For the fiscal year ending in March 2011, Mitsubishi has a target of selling 37,000 ASXs in Europe and Russia. As part of the automaker's plan to shift to more fuel-economic vehicles, some of these models are now being referred to as crossovers instead of SUVs.

The ASX is labeled as a compact crossover while the Outlander is regarded as mid-sized crossover. For segmentation purposes, Automotive News Europe has lumped the ASX and Outlander to be medium SUVs.

Standing for their fourth industrial collaboration, PSA/Peugeot-Citroen will soon sell two compact SUVs that are based on Mitsubishi Motors Corp.'s new ASX sport-utility. Aside from this tie-up, the two carmakers also have deals on mid-sized SUVs, electric cars and a joint car factory in Russia.

Starting next year, European fans will be getting two still unnamed five-seat SUVs from Citroen and Peugeot. These SUVs will be based on the Mitsubishi ASX, which is known as the RVR in Japan. Last February, Mitsubishi had introduced the RVR in Japan.

This summer, the ASX will start selling in Europe. In addition, PSA will launch versions of the ASX/RVR for the Peugeot and Citroen brands. The SUVs will have many components that are shared with the ASX but it is expected to have distinct designs. In a joint PSA-Mitsubishi statement, it was revealed that for PSA, the new SUVs will extend the ranges of both Peugeot and Citroen.
