Mitsubishi finally introduces the new Xpander MPV at the 2017 Indonesia International Auto Show in Jakarta Indonesia. Replacing the previous Expander, the new multipurpose vehicle will be mostly sold at the ASEAN region and other international markets. Earlier reports said the 2017 Mitsubishi Xpander is expected to arrive at the showrooms by early next year but will be out in Indonesia sometime this fall.
Taking its design cues from today’s crossovers and those of the traditional MPVs, Mitsubishi ensures to bring a tough and trendy multi-purpose vehicle without compromising convenience. Overall measurements consist of a length of 4,475mm, width of 1,750mm, and height of 1,700 with up to 205mm ground clearance. Aside from being stylish and functional, the new Xpander has the most generous space in the MPV segment.
The all-new Xpander MPV now comes with larger legroom and headroom for everyone on board thanks to its seven- seat configuration. When the back seats are folded, the second and third rows provide more space at the cargo area while staying flat on the surface.Read the entire article Mitsubishi launches new Xpander MPV at the 2017 GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show
If you look at today’s trends, people seem to be leaning more towards small crossovers instead of mini MPVs, which means that automotive companies should be developing more of the former. That is what Kia has planned with the brand new Stonic that they unveiled on June 20, a week after the Hyundai Kona’s launch.
The Kia Stonic is quickly becoming popular, and is looking like the perfect car to attract new and young customers, as well as current Kia owners that are looking for an upgrade. The Korean automaker even said that almost a quarter of their buyers are upsizing from a hatchback to something with a little more height. Having said all that, it has also been confirmed by Kia’s top manager that we will no longer be seeing a successor of the Venga MPV.
As the SUV segment grows with the new Stonic, it is time to say goodbye to good old MPVs like the Kia Venga. But to make things clear, the Stonic is not a replacement for the Venga. Kia’s European Chief Operating Officer Michael Cole said to AutoExpress that the Stonic’s arrival made it “difficult to justify a next generation” for the Venga. And for the record, MPV segments have been in decline for some time now. He added that as the MPV segment shrunk, “it has created an opportunity for us and sales are going fine for us now”.Read the entire article Kia axes the Venga, makes room for the Stonic

The European New Car Assessment Programme, or the Euro NCAP, has declared the Volkswagen Touran as the 2015 best compact multi-purpose vehicle. This also means that it is one of 2015’s most crash-resistant vehicles.
The brand has long been known to have a line-up of popular MPV’s and this current version did not only pass the difficult series of crash tests conducted by the Euro NCAP last September but even achieved five stars, the highest possible rating.
This rating is based on four categories that include driver assistance systems, pedestrian protection, occupant protection for adults, and occupant protection for children. For 2015 though, the specifications for the NCAP test were made more difficult.Read the entire article VW Touran is one of the most crash-resistant vehicles of 2015 says Euro NCAP
The Citroën C4 Picasso has once again managed to get the “Best MPV” during the 2015 Fleet World Honours held in London. Citroën had previously won this award in 2014. The new award in fact named the C4 Picasso as joint winner with Grand C4 Picasso. Fleet World Honours judge Steve Moody commented that Citroën had been manufacturing excellent MPVs and it is the C4 Picasso that takes advantage of this fact.
The 5-seater C4 Picasso is both stylish and distinctive but remains practical. Moody adds that what made the Grand C4 Picasso win is that it does not stop in setting the standard of the class and is the only 7-seater MPV than has less than 100g/km of CO2 emission despite not having a hybrid technology.
Both the C4 Picasso and Grand C4 Picasso give buyers a wide range of equipment choices like an active radar-guided cruise control, dual-zone air conditioning, 7-inch Touch Drive interface with a 12-inch panoramic HD central display, and panoramic windscreen.Read the entire article Citroën C4 Picasso wins 2015 “Best MPV” at Fleet World Honours

For the Chinese market, Honda and Acura have prepared a series of new production and concept cars, such as a people mover, a sedan, and two crossovers. Their stands at Auto Shanghai 2013 will also display two new concepts. From the teasers, it’s obvious that the Honda concept is longer than the Acura, implying that this may be a seven-seater.
The tall daylight opening of the crossover arrives at a point right in front of the slanting D-pillar and trunklid with wraparound taillight and lengthened deck spoiler, similar to the 2014 Infiniti QX60. The Acura concept has the same measurements as a compact crossover, making it appear a lot like a CR-V or RDX for the future.
It also gets a trapezoidal daylight opening (evocative of the MDX) and LED taillights that could extend as far up as the rear hatch. It’s not easy to guess what the introduction of these cars mean exactly. The order books are already open for the Odyssey minivan (Chinese buyers get the Japanese-market one) and RDX/CR-V crossovers, which likely rules them out.Read the entire article Honda coming with an MPV, Acura will unveil a crossover concept at Auto Shanghai 2013
The all-new Citroën C4 Picasso will go on sale this September. The mini-MPV models will feature more frugal engines and will be built with a body that’s lighter. The C4 Picasso is built on the new PSA Group ‘EMP2’ platform that will be shared with the new Peugeot 308. Furthermore, the new platform offers a “usefully wider, shorter footprint,” which gives the new C4 a dynamic styling effect that is both “forceful and intense.”
The new platform gives the C4 new proportions with an overall length that’s shorter by 40mm and a 70mm shorter front overhang. However, it has wider tracks that are 83mm bigger at the front and 31mm at the rear. The interior is roomier due to its wheelbase that’s 55mm longer.Read the entire article 2014 Citroen C4 Picasso makes its debut, reminds us of Technospace Concept

It was only a few weeks ago that Ford Motor Co. launched the B-Max model but the automaker has already decided to terminate a shift at the Romanian plant that builds the small minivan. Ford will provide buyouts to several hourly workers at the plant in Craiova under what it refers to as a "limited voluntary separation program."
The factory, which is located 260km west of Bucharest, has about 3,600 workers, with most of them having been in service for over four years. A Ford spokesman said last Friday that talks with unions are ongoing. The Craiova plant will run on a single shift as Ford aims to exceed slow sales in Europe. Last month, Ford launched sales of the B-Max. The model is built on the same platform as the Fiesta subcompact.
It is also the replacement for the Europe-only Fusion minivan. Auto sales in Europe have fallen this year as economic weakness drives down consumer confidence. Ford estimates a loss of at least $3 billion in Europe over the next couple of years.Read the entire article Ford cuts B-Max production at Romanian plant
