Toyota FT-4X Concept is one functional crossover

Toyota hopes to target a new market with a new crossover concept dubbed as the Toyota FT-4X. The company says that this car is perfect for those who love to be outdoors, but not necessarily hardcore off-roaders.

The FT-4X, at first glance would remind you of the FJ cruiser, with their similar body type and paint job, except this one has more utilitarian touches. This was designed by the people behind Toyota’s Calty Design Research center, with inspirations from Land Cruiser’s FJ40 and pickups - with the aim to appeal to people with a growing urge to escape.

Future Toyota Four-Wheel Drive Crossover is what FT-4X really stands for. The designers think of this concept as a hybrid, considering the fact that it is small enough to fit an urban environment. At the same time, it has the ability to go off-road for an off the pavement drive. During the development phase, the FT-4X was guided by a philosophy of “rugged charm”. Five attributes were in mind: design simplicity, inherent capability, durability, lineage, and charm, which the FT-4X does embody.

Toyota unveils upgraded 2018 Yaris at 2017 New York Auto Show

A number of customers generally want to drive a simple car, preferably something that is affordable. This is why a lot of drivers want to have the Toyota Yaris. For the 2017 New York Auto Show, the brand revealed that it will be unveiling the 2018 Yaris which has some features on its exterior enhanced.

The biggest change is the front section where the small parts in the grille that connect the headlamps are no longer used. Instead there is now the body color trim that has been placed on the lower portion of the black grille. Further by having a pointed nose and the sweeping assemblies of the headlamp, the Yaris gets a profile that is more aggressive.

The rear section has been enhanced as well and while it has a better look compared to the previous version, it may not be that impressive for some. Both the hatch and the fascia in this section mirror the open-mouth style seen in the front. Having a new style as well are the tail lights which match the layout of this section. While the brand said that the redesign was aimed at giving this model a more athletic look, some customers may not immediately see this.

The midsize luxury SUV now has more space at the third row, an improved towing capability, various safety technologies, and a range of useful interior features. Inside, it boasts of premium materials which enhances the whole experience of cruising with this all-new seven-passenger midsize luxury SUV.

2018 Honda Clarity plugin hybrid boasts 42-mile all-electric range, total range is at 330miles

Efforts to save the world from destruction have ushered the advent of more eco-friendly alternatives for everyday items, reaching various sectors including the automotive world. It has become a trend amongst automakers involved in this so-called “green revolution” to offer multiple eco-friendly powertrains for one model, giving customers the freedom of choice – to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions or to keep the traditional fuel-powered engine on standby in case the electric-powered engine acts up.

There’s Hyundai’s Ioniq offered in full electric, plug-in hybrid, and gas-electric hybrid versions, and then there’s the Toyota Prius with an available plug-in version. Recently, we have received more details about Honda’s latest green onslaught – the new three-pronged Clarity line-up. Let’s take a closer look at the Japanese automaker’s latest attempt to dominate the green car world.

In December 2016, Honda launched the hydrogen-powered Clarity Fuel Cell and we’ve seen its performance. Now, Honda released more information about its siblings: the battery-powered Clarity Electric and Clarity Plug-in Hybrid. The PHEV has the capability to deliver 42 miles of all-electric range; is it worth the wait? Well, it only depends on how you feel about this information. Honda aims to sell 75,000 units in the U.S. alone for the first four model years of the Clarity vehicles.

Audi of America officially launched at the 2017 New York International Auto Show its newest brand, the Audi Sport. Formerly known as quattro GmbH, this new brand is founded on a long and highly successful motorsport tradition. It actually goes all the way back to the 1930s and started with Auto Union’s now iconic “Silver Arrow.” This model then was considered as the world standard when it comes to the racing tracks.

By the 1980s, the company introduced the Audi Quattro and with its permanent all-wheel drive, it managed to perform well in a number of rally competitions. When 2000 came into the picture, Audi fitted its models with new combustion engines and put in new lighting technologies. This resulted in the company winning at Le Mans with a total of 13 victories.

This new brand is expected to display that best of track-tested performance from Audi. Customers should expect quality, innovation, and excellent balance when it comes to driving dynamics. With the launching, the brand revealed as well that a total of 8 new models are slated to be released in the U.S. market over the next 2 years.

With the recently concluded 2017 New York Auto Show displaying hordes of muscle and sports cars, we are in awe at how many new vehicles will be soon swooping in and out of our roads. The newly unveiled high powered American muscle - 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon also graced the halls of the Auto Show with its 2.7 L supercharger that produces up to 808 hp. But hoping to steal the spotlight from the Dodge Challenger SRT is the latest vehicle of the Trans Am: the 2017 Trans Am Super Duty.

The Pontiac label was put to its shallow grave after General Motors axed the brand in 2010 as a result of financial dilemma. But now the Pontiac's classic muscle car is given a second life in the form of the 2017 Trans Am 455 Super Duty. The previous Trans Am vehicles were modelled from the 5th generation Chevrolet Camaro and General Motor's Zeta chassis, now the newly unveiled Trans Am 455 Super Duty is probably the first unit ever produced that is molded around the sixth gen Chevy Camaro and the lightweight Alpha chassis.

The biggest asset of this beast of a vehicle is its 455 cubic inch (7.4 L) variant of the GM's recent generation V LT1 V8 engine equipped with a Magnuson TVS2300 supercharger that produces up to 14 psi of boost- which has 0.5 less psi compared to the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. Trans Am Worldwide further revealed that the engine of the 455 Super Duty was made in partnership with a still unnamed premier NASCAR engine builder hailing from Martinsville, Virginia. Turns out, our guesses would directly point to the Arrington Performance by the very own NASCAR racer and team owner Joey Arrington. A cold air intake and purely ceramic coated headers, with 3.0 inch of exhaust powers contribute to an impressive 1,000 hp and 1,046 lb-ft of torque: a 160 hp and 276 lb-ft more than the Demon's performance on gas and 192 hp and 329 lb-ft more than the Demon's execution on 91 octane.

Gracing the 2017 New York Auto Show is the 2018 Buick Enclave Avenir – the brand’s very first entry in its new Avenir luxury sub-brand. This latest generation of Buick’s crossover vehicle comes with a sleeker look, compared to vehicles in the same class.

The Enclave Avenir has taken some features from recent Buick concepts such as the Avenir Concept car and integrating it as its own. Here, we find a combination of its mesh grille and chrome wings which serve as a support for the Buick tri-shield emblem. Another standard feature is a pair of LED headlights featuring automatic high beams.

Compared to the outgoing model, the 2018 Enclave is now taller and longer. Its height has increased by 2.4 inches (61 millimeters) or a total of 204.3 inches (5.189 meters), and its wheelbase is made longer so that it is now at 120.9 inches (3.071 meters) – a 2-inch (51-millimeter) increase from the current generation’s. However, this increase in size does not affect its weight as the 2018 Enclave is lighter than the current generation – the base model’s curb weight is at 4,358 pounds (1,977 kilograms), which is actually 366 pounds (166 kg) lighter.

Acura, a Japanese based company founded 31 years ago, has been building luxurious and high performance cars. Many share the opinion that the brand has been attempting a balance between luxury and output and not really succeeding every time. At times, it may seem ambiguous where the company wants to focus.

Out with the old, and in with the new. At the recent 2017 New York Auto Show, Acura unveiled the 2018 TLX, just the second car after the MDX to adopt the “Precision Crafted Performance Design”. This model actually made its debut in a private event days before its official launch at the auto show.

The premium sedan comes with a more functional dashboard software similar to the recent Honda Accord. Apart from the having a quicker response, the new TLX is equipped with a dual screen new interface that includes a seven-inch central touchscreen, instead of the confusing design that the old model had. The software is also compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and AcuraWatch.

This may be the sports car that will suit Batman's taste and can possibly replace the Bat mobile. Cue the Batman soundtrack; let's feast our eyes on Maserati's new creation: the Limited Edition black trim package dubbed the "Ghibli Nerissimo".

Using all black on a vehicle is becoming a bigger trend nowadays, with the Japanese car manufacturer Nissan offering a Midnight Package and Chevrolet also competing with its Midnight Edition Trucks. Now the Italian automaker powerhouse Maserati is following suit with its rival releases and it has decided to jump on the bandwagon with its Ghibli Nerissimo package, which directly translates to "extremely black" in English. The newly unveiled Black Beast awesomely contrasted with the bright halls of the 2017 New York Auto Show, getting a whole lot of attention from interested spectators.

The limited edition package will not only be on the 345 hp Ghibli, but is also made available with the 404 hp Ghibli S and Ghibli S Q4 models. All sports car with the Nerissimo package will feature a sports steering wheel, adaptive dampers, shift paddles, 12 way power front seats, a blind spot monitor, rear and front parking sensors, and a remote starting system.

It looks like 2018 is going to be a very busy year for Subaru. Not only did the Japanese automaker have its name changed early this month (from Fuji Heavy Industries to Subaru Corporation), it has also made quite a bit of updating for its current lineup. Joining the updated models such as the Legacy and Crosstrek, is the 2018 Subaru Outback.

The Outback is Subaru’s most popular high-riding wagon, so that the upcoming 2018 model year will come back fresher and better. The 2018 Subaru Outback made its debut at the 2017 New York Auto Show and is expected to hit dealerships this summer. That fast, eh!

Just like the new Legacy and Crosstrek, the 2018 Outback features a more chiseled appearance – a look that Subaru aims to achieve for its models. The more angular look at the corners of its front end is formed because its headlights now have sharper corners resulting to the Outbacks’ “more rugged appearance”. The front fascia of the 2018 Outback is restructured so that it now features larger grille openings, with its sculpting highlighting the crossover’s huge fog lights. Also, it features a new front cladding which Subaru claims, improves protection from mud and stones on off-road trips. All these modifications however did not change the car’s overall ground clearance, remaining at only 8.7 inches or 221 millimeters.

Just recently, Honda released the new 2017 Civic Si but it seems like the updates are a bit underwhelming for the fans. It has been a while since it was reported that the Si will be powered by the same 1.5-liter turbocharged engine used in the Civic line. Everyone began to expect that it will be the “fastest, most powerful Si” (as per Honda’s claim) – but think again. If you’re thinking that powerful is synonymous to super-powered Si, then you better not get your hopes up just yet.

So, what did Honda mean when they said “most powerful”? It is actually a reference to the engine’s capability of producing a maximum of 192 lb.-ft. of torque, much more than the usual Si’s peak torque (i.e. the last Si’s 174 lb.-ft.) but with only 205 horsepower. This may be quite disappointing for the Civic Si, but at least peak power is achieved at 5,700 rpm or 1,200 revs more than the outgoing model, while maximum torque comes in at 2,100 rpm ‘til around 5,000 rpm – which is actually quite decent, considering it is 70 percent of the engine’s rev range. The 2017 Civic Si only comes with a six-speed manual transmission, but in theory, it seems like it will take “less rowing” to keep the driving experience quite exciting.

The peak numbers may not be that impressive as we all expected it to be. On a positive note, the low and mid-range power levels, where majority of drivers spend their motoring time, will now become livelier. The new Civic Si has a more rigid body featuring dual-pinion adaptive electric power steering, sport-tuned suspension, an adaptive damper system, 12.3-inch front brakes, and 235/40 R18 rubber wheels with optional performance tires. Despite this, the new Civic Si is significantly lighter than the outgoing model. To cope with both power and steering duties, the front tires is aided by a helical limited-slip differential.

Mitsubishi Outlander is the Japanese automaker’s best-selling model. For 2018, the Outlander Sport will freshen up – both inside and out – to balance it out with the new Eclipse Cross.

Earlier this year, Mitsubishi introduced the Outlander Sport at the Chicago Auto Show with what they called a “special edition”; but wasn’t that successful in the “special” part. Now, for 2017 New York Auto Show, the Japanese automaker re-introduces the 2018 model year by polishing it yet again. Let’s see what changed over the weeks after the Chicago Auto Show.

If you do not look closely (or for some, refer to a “before and after” photo), these changes may be too minimal to be caught right away. For the sake of those who want to know more about the changes, we will be enumerating them one by one.

Just like its brother, the 2018 Subaru Outback, the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek will also get more love from the Japanese company in the form of a total makeover. It has been five long years since the Subaru Crosstek made its debut and the petite sized crossover is still considered a success. Now a redesigned version of the Crosstrek will be making waves at the 2017 New York Auto Show.

When SUVs and crossovers were all the buzz in the automobile market, most of the automakers jumped on the bandwagon and released as many models as they can. But several automakers were shrewd enough to not follow this trend. Instead, they had another plan up their sleeves. They recreated their existing models to save up tons of cash in research.

2018 Subaru Crosstrek, which also bears the moniker XV, is virtually a jacked-up Subaru Impreza that we readily recognize. The new Crosstrek still keeps its rugged appearance of the outgoing unit as well as its wheel arch covering that provides an 8.7 inch clearance from the ground and other soft road features. Also, this SUV will boast a longer wheelbase that measures up to 104.9 inches, 1.2 inches longer than that of its previous self.

For the past few months, several spy photos of Lincoln’s flagship SUV – the all-new 2018 Lincoln Navigator – have been surfacing, showing its basic shape and a couple of modifications including the removal of its coverings. Shape-wise, the 2018 Navigator has a striking similarity with the Navigator Concept’s gullwing (showcased during last year’s New York Auto Show).

Unfortunately for the said gullwing, it never made it to production, which isn’t really surprising since most enthusiasts have always known of its fate. The various spoilers that have surfaced before the 2018 Navigator’s debut has, quite frankly, subdued the excitement and hype for the updated SUV.

Now, for those who are still eager to learn more about Lincoln’s freshly revamped flagship SUV, sit back and relax as we give to you a quick run-through of what’s in store for you.

Genesis Motors, the luxury vehicle branch of the South Korean automaker Hyundai, is hoping to venture into a new market- the electric run vehicle territory. For years, Genesis only offered sedans but now the game is about to change. Here to pave the way is the futuristic Genesis GV80 SUV.

The South Korean automaker has long hinted the pubic that it is keenly interested in entering the electric vehicle market, with big companies like Ford and Tesla in the same race for producing e-vehicles. Up until now, rumours have been flowing off the shelf that Genesis is gearing up to recreate a pure e-vehicle or a hybrid one. At the recently held 2017 New York Auto Show, all eyes were on the GV80 Fuel cell concept with a metallic finish that offers a subtle glimpse in what the future holds for the car consumers.

This fuel cell powered exclusive SUV is based on the Genesis' Athletic Elegance design and the GV80 will serve as a predecessor to a whole new future lineage of e-vehicles that Genesis is yearning for. The Genesis Athletic design was previously introduced in the G90 forerunner in the year 2015. Manfred Fitzgerald, Genesis Chief, remarked that the GV80 Concept is considered by the company as the most significant breakthrough that paves the way for further expansion of their vehicle line-up.

A seductively long hood, strictly raked windshield and wide rear haunches – these characteristics are what makes the Jaguar F-Type. Add in a snarling 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine, and the equation is complete.

Via a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission, this stunner runs with 340 horsepower on its rear wheels while the S models get up to 380 horsepower on all wheels with the automatic transmission. The F-type is truly powerful; however, it may prove to be an impractical choice for rough roads.

For 2018, Jaguar decided to tone it down with the F-Type, giving it a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four base engine, making a total of 10 powertrain options (a grand total of 24 model variants). It has been a while since news of a four-cylinder F-Type circulated, so this addition to the line is not too surprising. This particular F-Type runs exclusively on rear-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission, producing only 296 horsepower (221 kilowatts) and 295 pound-feet (400 Newton-meters) of torque at 1,500 to 4,500 rpm. With this powertrain, the F-Type can launch itself from a standstill to 60 miles per hour in 5.4 seconds and achieve a top speed of 155 mph.

South Korean automaker, Hyundai, is rolling out a rejuvenated D-segment sedan. Hyundai previously produced the Sonata with an extroverted, dramatic imaged but softened the look of the current generation vehicle that was revealed to the public eye 3 years ago. Recently Hyundai reverted back to its extroverted and dramatic outline of the midsized sedan.

The pre-ramped up 2018 Hyundai Sonata was launched last March of this year in its homestead in South Korea. Currently the aesthetically modified Sonata midsized sedan will make its debut this week in North America, specifically participating at the 2017 New York Auto Show. Akin to its Korean counterpart, the newly tweaked 2018 Sonata sports a newly revised front end that highlights the new "cascading" grille and boosted front fasciae fitted with vertical LED running lights.

Hyundai exclaimed that the brand new front end of the vehicle is equipped with vertical side air intakes to provide the car a more planted feel, and its hood revised to make it lower at the front, in which it gives the 4 door sedan a sleeker look. The new "cascading" grille got its influence from the molten steel that is flowing outside of the caldron. However the overall body of the 2018 Sonata did not have a hint of change as it’s still maintaining a sleek, low roofline of the pre-ramped up unit. Another option that the consumer can choose is the Full LED headlamps. The rear part of the sedan is sporting a sharper looking LED taillights, with a lettering that reads "Sonata". Impressively the rear is less cluttered looking than that of its former self.

The incoming 2017 New York Auto Show will be the venue for the refreshed classic vehicles. Only recently, Hyundai announced to the world that the 2018 Hyundai Sonata was facelifted and some changes under the hood were also done.

The vehicle who hopes to steal the attention from the 2018 Hyundai Sonata is the refreshed 2018 Subaru Outback which will also make its debut at the same Auto Show this week.

Also hoping to hog the spotlight is the 2018 Buick Regal TourX, a more elevated wagon that has a classic all wheel drive hoping to steer consumers away from purchasing a crossover or an SUV.

INFINITI has presented the design of the QX80 Monograph. This is a design study that hopes to look into upscale luxury. It also showcases the plan of INFINITI to raise its position in the full-size luxury SUV class. The brand disclosed that the QX80 Monograph will be officially unveiled at the 2017 New York Auto Show.

This latest model utilizes the most current design language of the brand but does it in an artistic and sculptural manner. What the design does is use organic shapes and combine this with geometric forms. The result in a form that shows elegance and power, giving it a more sophisticated and commanding presence.

The trademarked design elements the brand is known for are still present like the double-arch grille. However for the QX80 Monograph, the grille has been made wide and taller giving it a new and powerful face. Present as well is the D-pillar and its crescent-cut though it comes in a new shape.

Ford recently announced its updates made on the bulky Explorer SUV at the 2017 New York Auto Show in a predicted continuous growth in the SUV global market, so this move from Ford is quite wise in attracting more customers to patronize their main SUV. 2018 Explorer Sport and the 2018 Explorer Platinum is geared to have front and rear design renovation.

Mark LaNeve, Ford's Vice President of the US marketing, sales and service, indicated that the SUV category has amplified from a mere 28 percent in 2006 to an impressive 40 percent in 2016. Ford also predicts that the numbers will shoot up to 45 percent by the next 5 to 7 years.
