At the annual Tokyo Auto Salon, Nissan’s Nismo unveiled a performance tuned concept based on the Nissan Micra minicar that’s available overseas. This event is attended by the popular tuning firms like HKS, GReddy and Veilside. Recently, the in-house tuners of major automakers like Nismo, Mugen and TRD have showed various modified cars and concepts at recent shows. This model is the third sports compact that Nismo released.
It follows on the Juke Nismo Concept and the Leaf Nismo Concept to reiterate Nismo’s expansion plans to be a real competitor to well-known performance brands such as BMW’s M Division and Mercedes-Benz AMG.
The exterior of this newest Micra concept comes with a lower stance and more aggressive styling from a modified front grille design and the use of purposeful, efficiency-improving aeroparts that were being developed as part of Nismo's racing technology.Read the entire article 2012 Tokyo Auto Salon: Nissan unveils sporty Micra Nismo Concept
Automakers that have teamed up with Formula 1, like Mercedes-AMG, develop the coolest road-going supercars just like the Project One. Aston Martin and Red Bull, on the other hand, have their own Valkyrie supercar. Well, it seems like Toyota is next in line, as they bank on their expertise in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) to develop what they call the GR Super Sport. This may just be a concept for now, however, Akio Toyoda, Toyota’s president, expressed his intentions towards developing a production hybrid supercar.
So what can we expect from the GR Super Sport Concept? First of all, it seems like it was inspired by Toyota’s LMP1 models, not just when looking at it from the outside, but also when studying what’s under the hood. The automaker even confirms this by saying that it was built very similarly as the TS050 Hybrid, so we could consider it to be the perfect race car for the road.
Under the hood of this concept is a 2.4 liter biturbo V6 engine, which is paired with a battery considering the fact that it is a hybrid model. Overall, it can produce as much as 986 horsepower (735 kilowatts) when speaking of output, or should I say 1,000 PS. The GR Super Sport Concept sits on a set of 18 inch wheels, wrapped in matching 330/710 R18 tires. It comes with two exhaust tips mounted up in the back where the rear window can usually be found. This concept does not have side mirrors of conventional glass, but instead, gets a pair of cameras for the driver to see what’s behind. Two more cameras that look like they are floating can also be found on the front fenders.Read the entire article Toyota presents GR Super Sport Concept, a preview of future production hybrid supercar!
There is nothing more exciting happening this month than the 2018 Tokyo Auto Salon - especially with all the concepts that are being uncovered. Apart from the Toyota GR Super Sport with almost 1,000 horsepower, the next one in line is the new Subaru Viziv Performance STI. In other words, it means a new WRX STI is being developed as the concept provides a number of things to come as far as the sporty sedan’s next generation.
So what can we expect? Well, the automaker has not shared a lot of technical details but they did say that the concept will give us an idea of what the future will look like for Subaru - with their goal to deliver enjoyment and peace of mind to its customers.
When looking at the images, the front fascia shows a more aggressive and race-ready Viziv Performance concept. The bumper now looks beefier, while the alloy wheels look bigger. The quad exhaust in the rear is quite prominent, as well as the massive rear wing with side extensions. Overall, it looks a lot like the concept we saw last October at the Tokyo Motor Show, but with race ready bits and pieces.Read the entire article Subaru unveils Viziv Performance STI Concept at 2018 Tokyo Auto Salon
The 15th generation of the Toyota Crown is definitely on the way after the Japanese carmaker unveiled the Toyota Crown Concept at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show in October. But while customers wait for the next generation of the luxurious sedan for its eventual arrival in the summer of 2018, Toyota’s design arm Modellista is taking the Crown to another event in Tokyo that focuses on performance and custom dress-up parts as well as customized technologies.
While the Toyota Crown already stands for luxury in Japan, Modellista is taking opulence to another level. As an in-house design arm of Toyota, Modellista has favorable access to the carmaker’s vehicles, allowing it to craft aftermarket parts like body kits, custom grilles and other cosmetic effects. Furthermore, this access allows Modellista to offer Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) limited-edition models, just like the new Toyota Crown Modellista. Other offerings of the custom shop include the Toyota Camry Modellista, Toyota 86 Modellista Concept Version and Toyota Prius Modellista.
Toyota’s in-house design arm is set to unveil the Toyota Crown Modellista at the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon at Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture, Japan, starting January 12, 2018. The three-day event (January 12-14) will be host to a whole lot of customized cars, most of which are JDMs. For those are wondering, the Toyota Crown Modellista is a JDM model, which means it is only available – as well as legal -- in Japan.Read the entire article Toyota Crown Modellista Edition to be unveiled at Tokyo Auto Salon 2018
One of the legends of the automotive tuning world will be auctioned off at the upcoming 2018 Tokyo Auto Salon in January. We’re talking about the Top Secret V12 Toyota Supra (TS8012V) that boasts of a power that surpasses most of the vehicles of today. It surpasses even the upcoming Supra. The asking price has not been listed but it is expected that this hotshot icon would be worth a lot.
This Toyota Supra was created in 2006 as the TS8012V project by speed-chasing legend Kazuhiko "Smokey" Nagata, founder of Japanese tuning company Top Secret. Interestingly, the TS8012V came to life simply because Nagata was bored and cannot wait for the next generation of the Nissan GT-R, the R35. This sheer boredom spurred Nagata to take matters into his own hands and started the TS8012V project out of a 1994 Toyota Supra.
Intended to become one of Top Secret’s most extreme cars, the TS8012V is powered by an engine that isn't originally its own. During the time the TS8012V was being conceptualized, the most common way to upgrade the power of a car was to tweak its engine. But Nagata didn’t want to tune the Supra’s 3.0-liter 2JZ-GTE I6 and instead swapped it with the 5.0-liter 1GZ-FE V12 mill of the Toyota Century limousine.Read the entire article Legendary Top Secret V12 Toyota Supra is up for auction at 2018 Tokyo Auto Salon
TOYOTA GAZOO Racing revealed that it will be participating in the 2018 Tokyo Auto Salon with the theme “Meister's Workshop.” The company will showcase models that have been part of different motorsports competitions. It will also include cars that have made because of these events. The goal is not only to promote how truly enjoyable vehicle customization is but to convey as well just how cars will remain to display increasingly exciting presence, especially in the future.
Other models that will be participating in such races will also include, among others, the TS050 Hybrid and the Yaris WRC. This is not all as the company will also exhibit the GR Super Sport Concept. This concept car began from being part of the World Endurance Championship, or WEC, and is but one of the many examples of how such technological feedbacks gained from motorsports events has been integrated. TOYOTA GAZOO Racing will also be putting on display production vehicles like the 86 GR. It will even exhibit the Vitz GRMN, this was a 150-unit limited edition model released specifically for Japan.
Those familiar with racing know that the objective of racing is not only to develop race cars but to help people move toward the goal of producing even better cars. Indeed, this is made possible by participating in various motorsports activities like national races and rallies. It helps as well to be part of top category races like the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and even World Rally Championship (WRC), to name a few. Any such knowledge and technologies gained from being part of such events are then utilized to develop new production vehicles. It is through this integrated development process that Toyota developed its “GR” sports car series, which was officially launched last September.Read the entire article TOYOTA GAZOO Racing to display 2018 GR Super Sport Concept at Tokyo Auto Salon

Nissan is launching its low-priced and fuel efficient Micra subcompact in Canada in April, as part of its bid to gain Canadian market share. The for-Europe styled Micra will try to take advantage of the fact that Canada’s more populous eastern provinces prefer European tastes in cars, remarked Nissan vice president for North American product planning.
The Micra will replace the low-selling American-styled Versa sedan. "The Versa sedan didn't do well in Canada and we are stopping it now, with the introduction of the Micra," Loing remarked. "The Micra will be more to their liking." Nissan said this month that the Micra will have starting manufacturer's suggested retail price of C$9,998 -- $1,900 less than the current Versa sedan in Canada.
The car will be powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine providing 109 hp and 107 pounds-feet of torque. Loing said that Nissan is aiming to significantly improve its position in Canada, adding that part of the solution is to consider that Quebec and the eastern part represent a different kind of market, and “adjust to that difference."Read the entire article Nissan is replacing Versa with Micra in Canada
Nissan has released a new smartphone app called iManual, a digitalized version of the car manual. It will be available for the new Micra, and will contain information within the car’s manual. The new iManual also includes visual recognition software that allows owners to identify dashboard symbols and switches through their phone’s camera.
Nissan sees the iManual as a big hit, aimed at helping owners learn more about their car. It was conceived after research showed that motorists in the United Kingdom are no fans of their current car manuals. A recent online survey by Nissan showed that only 57 percent had consulted their manual, while only 13 percent had used it more than twice.
Most of those surveyed said they quickly gave up on their manuals after failing to find the information they needed. Around 13 percent said that they just keep their manual on a bookshelf with 10 percent admitting they didn’t even know where it was.Read the entire article Nissan unveils new iManual app for the new Micra

We saw a preview of a facelifted Nissan Micra when its March equivalent was launched in Thailand. The Micra was set to undergo upgrades soon after it went on sale in early 2011 in a very competitive supermini market. From the photographs that were released, we saw that the March/Micra has a bolder front grille and bumper arrangement.
Meanwhile, the new headlamps make it aesthetically more interesting. Among the changes made to the rear are LED lights and a new lineup of alloy wheel designs. The interior seems to keep the architecture of the existing Micra but it comes with several improved switchgear and materials. Nissan makes these changes after the cabin’s appearance was criticized.
It’s not probable that Nissan will change the engine range of the Micra, even when the European market asked for a small diesel. This means that it will continue to offer a 1.2-litre petrol engine in either naturally aspirated or supercharged forms.Read the entire article 2013 Nissan Micra/March gets a facelift
