Opel seeks to address the difficulties that consumers have had with fluctuating fuel prices and has decided to offer tempting alternatives with its LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) models. The German auto brand will first offer the Corsa LPG ecoFLEX. Variants of the Meriva, Astra, Zafira Tourer and Insignia will follow.
Opel asserts that this complete LPG solution has numerous advantages. It represents a 40% drop in fuel costs and its CO2 emissions level is lower by 15% when compared to gasoline models. For example, the new Corsa 1.2 LPG ecoFLEX delivers 83 hp in LPG mode (but produces 85 hp in gasoline operation).
In three-door form, it produces just 110 g/km of CO2 emissions. A five-door version only has 115 g/km of CO2 emissions. The four LPG ecoFLEX models that are slated to follow are based on the 1.4-liter turbo gasoline engine.Read the entire article 2011 Opel Corsa LPC ecoFLEX: details, photos and specs
After Opel’s launch of the Insignia GSi last year in a liftback and a wagon body styles, Opel is ready to add the “GSi” badge on the Corsa. This will probably be the last variant for the current generation of the supermini, and the hot hatch version will have a three door body style to make it stand out from the lesser models of the range. Standard features that it will get include larger air vents, a honeycomb front grille, red brake calipers, a chrome exhaust tip, and a new set of 18 inch wheels.
The Opel Corsa GSi’s main highlight will be the Sport chassis that it borrowed from the hardcore OPC version that makes the hatchback feel more nimble around the corners. It had also been equipped with a beefier roof mounted spoiler that will boast the model’s visual appearance, while also generating extra downforce to keep the car close to the road when it is going fast.
At this moment, the automaker has not shared photos of the car’s interior cabin, but we do know that customers will be given the possibility to upgrade to Recaro seats if they are willing to spend a little more. There is also a leather wrapped sports steering wheel, as well as the leather wrapped sporty gearshift knob. An aluminum sport pedal set finishes off the upgrades in the Corsa OPC’s cabin.Read the entire article 2018 Opel Corsa GSi now has a sport chassis from OPC variant
2017 is undeniably a very busy year for BMW. After introducing the new 4-Series, the German automaker has just released several new updates. In relation to this, BMW is also introducing the new 520d (G30) EfficientDynamics Edition, the company’s most eco-friendly 2.0 litre diesel engine.
BMW’s new 520d Efficient Dynamics has a combined fuel consumption of 73.4 miles per gallon and as low as 102 g/km C02 emissions. The engine consists of a turbocharger placed on antifriction bearings along with the new improved common rail injection, map controller oil pump and high pressure gas recirculation system. Mated to a standard 8-speed automatic transmission, the 520d EfficientDynamics can go from 0 to 62 miles per hour in only 7.5 seconds.
BMW’s new engine technology is also more aerodynamic efficient than any other engines. The 520d Efficient Dynamics delivers bigger fuel savings while using BMW’s BluePerformance technology all at the same time. Aside from the new filter, the Blue Performance system comes with a NOX storage catalyst, oxidation catalyst and AdBlue injection to help the engine emit less nitrogen oxide.Read the entire article 2017 BMW 5-Series (G30) gets the 520d Efficient Dynamics Edition
So, it is official! The new Honda Clarity FCV has the longest verified range of any zero-emissions vehicle currently on the road in the United States.
One of the main discouragements over zero-emissions vehicle is the amount of distance it could travel on a single charge or a single tank. This has caused the so-called range anxiety, in which drivers were wary of being trapped somewhere between where they took off and to where they are going. The possibility of being stuck while driving on a highway and leaving their cars behind has somewhat discouraged consumers from adopting clean and green cars.
So far, carmakers have been doing what they could to address this issue. Carmakers producing electric vehicles have been working hard to beef up their battery packs to increase the range of their offerings. One of these carmakers is Tesla, which produces the range-topping Tesla Model S P100D with a range of around 315 miles. This means that a fully charged Model S P100D could go for around 315 miles before needing to recharge again. Of course, actual range also depends on the driving habits and techniques, weather conditions and road situations.Read the entire article 2017 Honda Clarity FCV gets an EPA driving range rating of 366 miles
At the 2016 Washington, D.C. Auto Show, Honda announced its plans to offer for US sales the new 5-passenger, hydrogen-powered Clarity Fuel Cell Sedan. The Japanese company, famous for the manufacture of automobiles, motorcycles, and power equipment, is planning to have limited volumes at the early stages of production.
Retail leasing to customers in selected California markets is scheduled to commence before the end of this year. The expected cost of the Clarity Fuel Cell is about $60,000 with a targeted lease per month of below $500. Deliveries will begin through certified fuel cell vehicle dealers in San Francisco and Sacramento including Los Angeles and Orange counties.
The company plans to begin by releasing vehicles on lease and advance to retail sales with higher volumes and market coverage, which will correspond with a greater number of vehicle supplies and the expanding hydrogen refueling station network.Read the entire article Leasing of Honda Clarity Fuel Cell Sedan to start this year, US sales being planned
Elio Motors officially introduced to the world the P5, a fifth generation prototype. This announcement was made during a news conference at one of the most influential auto shows in the world, the Los Angeles Auto Show.
The company says that this enclosed and three-wheeled vehicle is targeted to be launched during the latter part of 2016 with a possible $6,800 base price. The company also expects that it will return 84 MPG.
Though the P5 is a fifth generation, it is the first time that the company will be using a 3-cylinder 0.9-liter engine. This particular engine was developed by IAV for the P5. This is because as the company was developing the P5, it realized that there were no engines available that had the combination that it wanted in terms of efficiency, speed, and power. The engine allows the P5 a 100 mph top speed with acceleration of 0 to 60 mph in 9.6 seconds.Read the entire article Elio Motors three-wheeled P5, a fifth generation prototype
Honda’s CLARITY FUEL CELL has finally made its debut at the 44th Tokyo Motor Show 2015. A production model has been made available to the public beginning October 30th and it will be on display to attendees of the event until November 8, 2015.
Honda’s plans for the new fuel cell vehicle (FCV) include setting a new standard that similar vehicles will be following in the future. People who remain attached to the capabilities of a conventional gasoline-powered vehicle will feel right at home with the CLARITY FUEL CELL, while enjoying the benefits that an FCV has in store for its users.
Despite having a fuel cell stack that has been reduced in size by 33%, the CLARITY FUEL CELL still gives an output that exceeds 100 kW. The FCV’s output density also improved by about 60%, achieving 3.1KW/L in this new model.Read the entire article Honda launches new Clarity Fuel Cell at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show
Because Subaru is a “small company,” it will have to raise its “brand value” in order to keep up with the high costs of producing cleaner cars, according to Fuji Heavy President Yasuyuki Yoshinaga in the June 5 interview by Japan's Nihon Keizai business newspaper. Subaru’s sales in the U.S. is on a fast pace. Its global boss says that it hopes to take advantage of this popularity to offset the cost of green technologies.
Yoshinaga didn’t actually call for higher sticker prices. Rather, he said that he wants to increase its “brand value” as the profit margin goes down because of related costs that have risen higher than anticipated. He explained that the brand isn’t like bigger automakers and it doesn’t benefit as much from the economy of scale so it will have to make up for the additional costs.
He said that development costs have been driven higher by research into hybrid drivetrains – a preferred way to cope with increasingly tougher emission standards. He revealed that the company is working to be compliant with the zero-emission standards that California will impose in 2018. It aims that by then, it will have already launched a plug-in hybrid for North America.Read the entire article Subaru to cope with high costs of green cars by raising brand value

Opel, a European unit of American carmaker General Motors, is facing a labor conflict in Germany over production plans for the Corsa subcompact and the Karl minicar, according to a report by Bilanz business magazine. Opel’s unions are mad on plans to build the Karl and the Vauxhall Viva at a capacity-extended GM site in South Korea, instead of an underused plant in Germany.
The unions are also worried that Opel would build the sixth-generation Corsa entirely at a GM's site in Zaragoza, Spain, Bilanz said. Opel currently builds the Corsa both in Zaragosa and in Eisenach, Germany.
They are worried that Opel would skip Eisenach for the project since the site has no press shot. Workers at the German site are claiming that the Spanish plant is already producing more Corsas than agreed, the report said.Read the entire article Labor unrest grows at Opel over output plans for Corsa and Karl

Toyota, with its Prius hybrid, had been dominating the Best Global Green Brands ranking, until this year when Ford overthrew the Japanese carmaker as the greenest brand in the world. The Best Global Green Brands ranking -- conducted with Deloitte Consulting and published by firm Interbrand-- measures consumer perceptions in markets around the world, complemented by data on how companies operate internally and report their environmental behavior.
Interbrand chief executive Jez Frampton remarked that failed to defend its crown on the 2014 survey mostly due to corporate reasons – like that the Japanese carmaker was not as transparent as in previous years past on non-product issues as water usage, greenhouse gas and business travel.
On the other hand, Ford was able to build up its green reputation partly by communicating better on the environmental activities of its supply chain, Frampton remarked. He told Automotive News in an interview that businesses have realized that green perceptions matter to consumers.Read the entire article Ford unseats Toyota as greenest brand in the world

As you may know already, back in February Volkswagen introduced the XL1, known as the most fuel-efficient production car in the world. For those who don’t know, the XL1 uses a 0.8-liter two-cylinder TDI engine with 48 PS and an E-motor with 27 PS, enough to use only 0.9 liters of fuel for 100 km. Well, now the German manufacturer wants to take things even further and will create the XR1, or a sporty version of the XL1.
According to Car magazine, the Volkswagen XR1 will be a high-tech sports car and could use the 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine found on the Golf GTI. Still, engineers are mulling over a turbo and supercharged triple or a hybrid. Sources suggest that Volkswagen could use the Golf GTI engine mid-mounted across the body.
Performances will be impressive: 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in less than 911 Carrera PDK’s 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 305 km/h or 190 mph. Volkswagen will create a new car and will not just add a new engine on the XL1.Read the entire article Vw working on the XR1: an ultralight, mid-engined sports car using a Golf GTI engine
