Self-driving sports utility vehicles from Peugeot may soon hit the roads as part of a project to test fully autonomous vehicles. The French carmaker has entered into a strategic partnership with nuTonomy – a self-driving car startup that had been formed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2013 – to have the Cambridge-based company install and implement its self-driving technology into Peugeot’s 3008 SUV.
Once nuTonomy’s software system has been fully installed into the Peugeot 3008 SUV, the partners will commence on-road testing of the self-driving vehicle in Singapore. The partnership is eyeing – ultimately -- to deploy thousands of fully autonomous cars in cities around the world.
As agreed, the initial phase of the partnership will entail nuTonomy having to seamlessly integrate its autonomous vehicle (AV) system – including its software, specialized sensors and computing platforms -- into the Peugeot 3008 SUVs. The partners consider the seamless integration of the AV system with vehicle hardware as a critical step toward deploying self-driving vehicle in large numbers and over extended life cycles.Read the entire article Peugeot and nuTonomy collaborate to test and deploy self-driving in Peugeot 3008 SUV

The CO2 emissions level of the Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4 has been lowered to only 91g/km. This is the first full hybrid diesel-electric crossover to be built. Peugeot, which pioneered the HYbrid4 technology, continues to break ground by making its drive train even more environmentally friendly. The front wheels are powered by the HDi 163 diesel while the rear wheels are being moved by a 37bhp electric motor.
This essentially combines 200bhp, four-wheel drive, with Auto, Sport and ZEV modes. Peugeot has developed three full hybrid diesel models (3008 HYbrid4, 508 RXH and 508 Saloon HYbrid4) in the Peugeot lineup. Its engineers now make use of this experience by continuing to enhance the technology and by naming aspects that lead to further optimization.
Peugeot has made improvements as well as developed new management software for the engines. The stages of energy recovery and the handling of the batteries were optimized by these modifications. This led to improvements in CO2 emissions and fuel efficiency. These benefits would be more noticeable in an urban driving setting. Presently, the 3008 HYbrid4 is type-approved on the combined cycle at 91g/km.Read the entire article Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4 now available with even lower CO2 emissions
Orders are now being taken by the British division of Peugeot for the 3008 HYbrid4 model, the world’s first full diesel hybrid car. The limited edition variant will be delivered first. It is priced at £26,600 and deliveries will begin in November 2011. Peugeot said that the 3008 HYbrid4 uniquely combines low CO2 emissions, high levels of driving enjoyment, reduced running costs, a maximum power output of 200 bhp, all-wheel drive, zero emission vehicle mode (ZEV), and CO2 emissions in the Combined Drive Cycle, model dependent, from 99 g/km.Read the entire article Peugeot starts to receive orders for 3008 Hybrid4 model
Later this week, PSA/Peugeot-Citroen will introduce the world's first diesel-electric car and will be taking on Renault SA's all-electric strategy. The strategy that these two French carmakers have taken up is in line with their goal to catch up with Toyota Motor Corp. At the Paris Auto Show, PSA (Europe's second-largest automaker) will launch a hybrid version of its 3008 crossover hatchback.
Meanwhile, Renault embarks on a strategy to make battery-powered cars a mass-market success. With the coming to light of strategies that PSA CEO Philippe Varin and Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn's have embraced, the industry divisions on what they expect green technology consumers will favor are becoming clearer.
However, these carmakers have quite a way to go before they could catch up with market leader Toyota, which launched the world's first hybrid (the gasoline-electric Prius) in 1997. According to Peugeot spokesman Jean-Marc Sarret, European prices for the 3008 hybrid will start somewhere above 30,000 euros ($40,400). In comparison, the basic gasoline version costs 21,600 euros.Read the entire article 2011 Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 entering the hybrid race to catch Toyota

French carmaker Peugeot will soon be launching the first diesel hybrid in the world. Based from the Peugeot 3008, this four-wheel-drive car utilizes a diesel-electric drivetrain to offer up to 200 bhp of output and up to 369 lb.-ft.. Emitting just 99 grams of carbon dioxide per km, the new Peugeot Hybrid 4 is an otherwise-conventional front-drive car that is powered by a 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine that delivers 163 bhp of max output and fitted with a stop-start system.
Modifications related to the hybrid system, which adds 100 kg to the weight of the car, include the incorporation of an electric motor -- good for 36 bhp of output and 147 lb.-ft. at full tilt -- and twin driveshafts for the rear wheels.
Under the boot floor, you can find a battery pack and a pair of electronic control units. To minimize costs, the Peugeot is using its existing self-shifting "robotized" six-speed box -- with the automatic clutch actuation; there's also the option of wheel-mounted paddles. Connecting the two powertrains is a series of underfloor cables, some of which carry the electrical charge generated by the engine's stop-start mechanism to the rear-mounted battery pack.Read the entire article Peugeot preparing to launch its first diesel-powered hybrid
