Very recently, Polestar unveiled its very first production model in the form of the Polestar 1 high-performance hybrid coupe. Yet, there are already people who are wondering how a Polestar 1 would look like once it transforms into a convertible. Imagining such could be hard, so a rendering by graphic artist X-Tomi could provide some help.
X-Tomi had actually rendered the Polestar 1 coupe as the Polestar 1 shooting brake or estate wagon. This version of the Polestar comes with a full-length roof and a rear end similar to a hatchback. In a way, the Polestar 1 shooting brake would allow Polestar to offer a unique mix of performance, range and practicality. It looks gorgeous too.
Now, X-Tomi didn’t stop at the shooting brake rendering. He chopped off the roof, the B- and C-pillars, and then added some features that we would usually find in a convertible. It was just last year that Touring Superleggera unveiled the Superleggera Sciadipersia coupe at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, a few years after the company launched the Disco Volante Spyder. Now, the 2019 Geneva Motor Show is playing host to the unwrapping of the roofless version of the Superleggera Sciadipersia coupe – the Sciadipersia Cabriolet.
As to why Touring Superleggera opted to create a version of the Superleggera Sciadipersia without a rood, Piero Mancardi, the carmaker’s chief executive officer, remarked that after launching the coupe last year, there has been pressure from new customers to develop an open top version. But since, Touring Superleggera has an undertaking with existing customers to keep its products exclusive, the carmaker decided to maintain the production run of just 15 examples. Alpina is releasing a new limited edition model that is essentially a more powerful and more appealing re-creation of the BMW 4 Series. This is the new BMW Alpina B4 S Bi-Turbo Edition 99, which would be sold either as a convertible and coupe versions, with deliveries set next year. As its name indicates, only 99 examples of the Edition 99 will be built.
This new BMW Alpina B4 S Biturbo Edition 99 is a limited edition model of the Alpina B4 S, which was derived from the BMW 4 Series. However, the B4 S is even more powerful and more dynamic than the high performance iteration of the 4 Series – the M4 Coupe. The Coupe version of the Edition 99 can be availed either as rear-wheel drive or an all-wheel drive (left-hand drive only). The Convertible model of the Edition, meanwhile, is configured as a rear-wheel drive.
While the 3.0-liter straight-six turbocharged engine of the M4 delivers 431 hp of output, the 3.0-liter turbocharged straight-six mill inside the B4 S offers up to 440 hp (324 kW). It also delivers 442 lb.-ft. Volvo’s performance brand, Polestar, is all-set to redefine the way people purchase their new vehicles. But even before it rolls out it this innovative brand and retail concept, Polestar is opening its very first showroom based on traditional network of dealerships. Its new showrooms – to be called as Polestar Spaces – will have it first brick-and-mortar location in Oslo, Norway. The Polestar Space in Oslo will commence its operations in the middle of 2019.
Thomas Ingenlath, chief executive of Polestar, called Polestar Spaces as a vital part of the brand’s customer experience, as it serves as the location where the carmaker physically meets its customers. The new Polestar Space will be found on Ovre Slottsgate in downtown Oslo, as located in a prominent retail environment along with other progressive brand stores.

Mercedes-Benz has chosen New York City as the location to reveal to us the refreshed C63 AMG family. These comprise the coupe, sedan, and cabriolet. In fact, we have seen the pre production models being tested but finally, the automaker has decided to get rid of the camouflage.
Now, we finally see them in the flesh, and we would say that one of the most obvious changes would be the new Panamericana grille that is actually pretty standard across the AMG line. Today, the most powerful Mercedes-Benz model you could get is probably the twelve-cylinder S65 and Maybach S650 – as both models have an output of 621 horsepower. However, VATH decided that they would produce something beefier than that, as they took both the coupe and cabriolet versions of the C63 and worked on their 4.0 liter biturbo V8 engine so they could give out a lot more power.
After VATH worked its magic on the C63’s AMG engine, it no longer gives out just 503 horsepower in the S specification. Instead, the V8 engine can now produce as much as 690 horsepower. This V63RS package, which includes the 187 horsepower boost, will cost you right around €12,800 (or $15,900), and that does not include value added tax yet. The upgraded engine is paired to a seven speed automatic transmission. Other upgrades include a new turbocharger setup and downpipe, together with an uprated oil cooler for the engine.
It isn’t just the horsepower that gets a boost, but of course, the torque as well. Mercedes-Benz just made an announcement that the 2018 E Class Cabriolet has finally landed in the United States. If you had not known, the E Class will be positioned in between the C and the S-Class convertibles. In fact, the E Class is being marketed as a luxury drop top that will have both a pure, elegant design, with long distance comfort just enough for four occupants.
As its name suggests, it will have a number of similarities with an E Class Coupe, except it will feature a fabric soft top in several colour options like black, red, dark blue, and dark brown. No matter which colour the customer selects, all of them will have the same feature, which promises to reduce both wind and road noise. It is fully automatic with sophisticated insulation that cuts down wind and noise when driving on the highway. In only 20 seconds, the top can fully be opened and closed, while traveling at speeds of up to 30 miles per hour (48 kilometers per hour). The roof then folds into a compartment in the trunk after opening.

It was just a few days ago that Polestar officially took off the wraps from its very first production model called the Polestar 1. While this was inspired by a vintage-inspired coupe, it comes with modern technology and a powerful plug-in hybrid powertrain. At first glance, one may be reminded of the Volvo P1800. This has led to it being imagined as a shooting brake like that of the P1800ES. In fact, an artist from X-Tomi Design already made a rendering of the long-roof model as early as now.
But instead of rendering it to look like the P1800ES with a huge rear glass, it was the outgoing V90 wagon that gave X-Tomi Design the inspiration. It was designed with a higher roof that appears to give the cabin more space and comfort, while also replacing the tiny bench in the back of the standard Polestar 1 coupe.
Whether this is a coincidence or not, Volvo has actually already considered a vehicle much like the Polestar 1 shooting brake, and it was introduced back in 2014 as the Concept Estate. After months of dropping online teasers, Polestar finally reveals its very first production car virtually. A few months ago, Mercedes-Benz promised that they will be treating everyone to a “big surprise” during the Monterey Car Week. And true enough, many of us were stunned as they unveiled the all electric Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet convertible version of the hardtop model that made its debut at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance last year.
Just like an art piece, this model is no doubt a head turner just like its predecessor. The Vision 6 Cabriolet stretches out to nineteen feet in length, and it sits on 24-inch wheels. Its hood appears extra long, while the tail tapers uniquely to a certain point. The front fascia gets a huge grille finished in chrome, which contrasts with the slim headlights. Mercedes actually refers to the rear end as a “boat tail”, complementing the Nautical Blue Metallic name for the exterior finish.
The Vision 6 Cabriolet’s interior completely stands out from the exterior. The two-seater cabin is finished in a clean white interior with silver accents - from the seats, the dashboard, to the steering wheel. The center console gets a wing-like “flowing” design that is given an ambient blue lighting around the elements, as well as the door panels. A racing team is claiming that it has managed to break the lap record in its category in the ever-demanding Nurburgring circuit in 2016 while driving a road-going Volvo S60 Polestar, but it elected to keep things in secrecy – until now.
Cyan Racing -- the official Volvo factory auto racing team based in Gothenburg, Sweden – said that it did break the record for the fastest four-door, road-legal production car in the Green Hell.
According to the account, after the FIA World Touring Car Championship round in the Nordschleife in Germany, Cyan Ryan opted to stay behind and conduct a so-called secret test involving a road-going Volvo S60 Polestar. This secret test was conducted by Cyan Racing in order to harvest more know-how about the Volvo S60 Polestar as well as to bring more improvements into the car.
