You may now pre-order a Polestar 1 for only $2500

Have you been imagining yourself driving a Polestar 1? If you have, now is the time for you to pre-order the 600 horsepower (447 kilowatt) hybrid coupe before it arrives in showrooms in 2019. A couple of days ago, the automaker decided to begin taking orders for interested buyers in exactly 18 countries including the United States, United Kingdon, China, Switzerland, Sweden, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Norway, the Netherlands, and Italy.

For one to get a reservation slot, a $2,500 (2,500 euros or 20,000 yen) deposit must be made, and the great thing about this is that it is refundable.

Since the Polestar 1 made its debut in the public, the company found out that around 7,000 people were interested in owning one of these, and this idea encouraged the automaker even more, according to Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO. This is what motivated them to take orders this early, and soon they will be taking the next step towards delivering this beautiful car to their first batch of customers.

First-ever Polestar Space to open in Oslo, Norway by mid-2019

Volvo’s performance brand, Polestar, is all-set to redefine the way people purchase their new vehicles. But even before it rolls out it this innovative brand and retail concept, Polestar is opening its very first showroom based on traditional network of dealerships. Its new showrooms – to be called as Polestar Spaces – will have it first brick-and-mortar location in Oslo, Norway. The Polestar Space in Oslo will commence its operations in the middle of 2019.

Thomas Ingenlath, chief executive of Polestar, called Polestar Spaces as a vital part of the brand’s customer experience, as it serves as the location where the carmaker physically meets its customers. The new Polestar Space will be found on Ovre Slottsgate in downtown Oslo, as located in a prominent retail environment along with other progressive brand stores.

Actually, the performance brand’s choice of location didn’t come as a surprise. Oslo is the capital city of Norway, where people are more likely to buy an electric vehicle instead of a conventionally powered one. Ingenlath remarked that it is logical to start the Polestar Space story in Oslo, since Norway is considered one of the most important EV markets in the world.

Tesla is now taking orders for its Semi in Europe

Two months ago, there were reports about Tesla Semi sales as it skyrocketed just a few weeks after being launched in the United States. Huge companies like J.B. Hunt, Walmart, Loblaws and Meijer had placed their reservations on the all-electric truck, as well as some other international companies. Also, the largest reservation that has been made was for 125 units (by none other than UPS).

Furthermore, Tesla received a total of around 140 pre-orders from the companies that ordered from them. And now, that number has probably doubled or tripled. The electric car maker promises to begin deliveries for the first batch of orders starting in late 2019.

Other companies that made reservations late last year include Sysco, DHL Supply Chain, Mecca & Son Trucking, Fercam, European based Girteka Logistics, Ryder and some others.

Tesla Semi orders have skyrocketed

Since Elon Musk revealed the Tesla Semi a couple of weeks ago, the automaker began receiving a number of pre-orders of the all-electric truck. Many of these orders come from large American companies including J.B. Hunt, Walmart, Loblaws and Meijer. According to Reuters, the all-electric automaker has already collected a total of 116 reservations, and orders continue to increase daily.

And as of the other day, there were already 140 pre-orders from 11 different companies, according to Jalopnik. Other companies that are part of the list of include Italian company Fercam, European based Girteka Logistics, Ryder, DHL Supply Chain, Fortigo Freight Services, Mecca & Son Trucking, Flexport.com and some others.

Anheuser-Busch had just pre-ordered the most number of Tesla Semis to date. If our sources are correct, they pre-ordered at least 40 units of the all-electric trucks, which they will use for the transport of goods such as those from Budweiser.

Demand for the Mercedes-AMG Project One hypercar is so high that people had been lining up to get a piece of this 1,000-hp-plus road machine even before Mercedes has commenced its production. Mercedes has placed the production cap at just 275 examples. In fact, the AMG Project One is practically sold out. Thus, those included in the shortlist of customers for the new AMG Project One could be considered as having a great amount of luck.

It turns out that one of those in the shortlist is trying to transform such luck into fortunes. Of course, with a price tag of around $2.7 million, the AMG Project One is reserved for the rich and affluent. Aside from taking into possession a one-of-a-kind hypercar laden with Formula One technologies, future owners would be getting their hands on one of the most exclusive and limited supercars in the market. This person in question doesn’t seem to like the prestige that comes with owning an example of the AMG Project One. But instead of just giving it away, he or she is selling his/her spot on the shortlist, as advertised on the German marketplace Mobile.de

It goes without saying that there would be people willing to take up this person’s offer. Getting into the shortlist of buyers for the new AMG Project One would be like hitting the jackpot. Even if this person is offering to sell his or her build slot for $5.22 million (€4.51 million) –– or nearly twice the price of an actual AMG Project One -- there would still be people who would ink a deal.

Very recently, Polestar unveiled its very first production model in the form of the Polestar 1 high-performance hybrid coupe. Yet, there are already people who are wondering how a Polestar 1 would look like once it transforms into a convertible. Imagining such could be hard, so a rendering by graphic artist X-Tomi could provide some help.

X-Tomi had actually rendered the Polestar 1 coupe as the Polestar 1 shooting brake or estate wagon. This version of the Polestar comes with a full-length roof and a rear end similar to a hatchback. In a way, the Polestar 1 shooting brake would allow Polestar to offer a unique mix of performance, range and practicality. It looks gorgeous too.

Now, X-Tomi didn’t stop at the shooting brake rendering. He chopped off the roof, the B- and C-pillars, and then added some features that we would usually find in a convertible. With a couple of visual changes, X-Tomi managed to render the Polestar 1 convertible with an exterior that is wrapped in a midnight blue finish and an interior in black.

It was just a few days ago that Polestar officially took off the wraps from its very first production model called the Polestar 1. While this was inspired by a vintage-inspired coupe, it comes with modern technology and a powerful plug-in hybrid powertrain. At first glance, one may be reminded of the Volvo P1800. This has led to it being imagined as a shooting brake like that of the P1800ES. In fact, an artist from X-Tomi Design already made a rendering of the long-roof model as early as now.

But instead of rendering it to look like the P1800ES with a huge rear glass, it was the outgoing V90 wagon that gave X-Tomi Design the inspiration. It was designed with a higher roof that appears to give the cabin more space and comfort, while also replacing the tiny bench in the back of the standard Polestar 1 coupe.

Whether this is a coincidence or not, Volvo has actually already considered a vehicle much like the Polestar 1 shooting brake, and it was introduced back in 2014 as the Concept Estate. And three years later, it turned out to be the current V90.

After the highly dynamic Polestar 1 two-door coupe – Polestar’s first ever production car -- was recently unveiled, not a few people’s curiosity was piqued as to how much they should shell out to purchase a unit of this 600-hp four-seater hybrid coupe. Sorry to say, but Polestar isn't planning to sell its first production model in a conventional manner. Not yet at least.

According to Polestar’s plan, customers could get hold of its Polestar 1 performance coupe only through its subscription plan. This means that no one will be able to buy the Polestar 1 coupe, but instead they have to become subscribers to the company’s plan. The subscription plan is good for two to three years. Once the subscription period has expired, a subscriber has to return the Polestar 1 to the company, or its representatives would knock on his or garage to pick up the performance coupe.

As for the returned model, it would be refurbished to return it to its near-pristine state, and would then be made available as a pre-owned model also through a subscription plan.

After months of dropping online teasers, Polestar finally reveals its very first production car virtually. The Polestar 1 is a two-door coupe that gets its design inspiration from the 2013 Volvo Concept Coupe. It then shares an SPA platform that underpins the “90” series cars and the newest XC60. As for the hardware, half of it is derived from Volvo’s SPA, while the other half represents the partnership between Polestar and Volvo that’s made specially for this new product.

Therefore, the Polestar 1 is more than just a coupe version of the S90 Sedan, considering the fact that the four-seater has to step up its game when it comes to the powertrain. Having said that, its hybrid setup gives out an impressive 600 horsepower and 737 pound-feet (1,000 Newton metres) of torque.

Besides that, it comes with a battery pack that can let the Polestar 1 reach 93 miles (150 kilometers). The automaker claims that in terms of range, the sporty coupe can perform better compared to any production hybrid out there. This is also because the coupe’s body is made entirely of carbon fiber, therefore cutting down a lot of its weight, while improving torsional stiffness by 45 percent. There is an electric axle between the rear wheels with torque vectoring capabilities for more power and precise handling.

For those who are into pickup trucks, there’s good news as the new Renault Alaskan can now be yours as they expand to more countries in Europe. It had entered the South American market last year followed by its Colombian debut. The French automaker developed this model as an alternative to the Nissan Navara and the Mercedes-Benz X-Class, and it will be offering the one-ton pickup in Europe.

Under the hood of the Alaskan pickup is a 2.3-liter dCi diesel engine. Customers could either go for the base model with 160 horsepower (119 kilowatts) or the 190 horsepower (141 kilowatts) option. Both engines can be paired with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed automatic. It has a towing capacity of 2,205 pounds (1,000 kilograms) and can haul up to 1,630 pounds (739 kilograms). The pickup is available in three driving modes including a two-wheel drive, a 4LO, or a 4H full AWD.

The functionality and performance of the Renault Alaskan are at par with competitors like the Ford Ranges and the Toyota Hilux, which are both currently out in the European market. Believe it or not, this truck can hit the 0 to 60 mile-per-hour (96 kilometers per hour) speed in only 12 seconds, before it reaches its top speed of 100 miles per hour (160 kilometers per hour).

Last July 28, Elon Musk held a special event for the first 30 customers of the Tesla Model 3. The Model 3 is the company’s first mass-produced vehicle and is also their most affordable model. The reason why only 30 units were delivered that day is because production is currently moving slow for the Californian automaker. However, they did say that production will hike up exponentially. But even after saying that, car owners who order one today won’t get their Model 3 until 12 to 18 months after.

Here is the thing, not everybody is that patient or can wait that long for a car to be delivered to their garage, so a lot of these people cancelled their pre-orders. As of now, there have been around 63,000 cancellations that were made by customers, according to Elon Musk as he revealed this during their quarterly earning call. All in all, reservations for the Tesla Model 3 have gone down from 518,000 to 455,000.

Musk further added that the cancellations were recorded in the span of over a year. Having said that, Tesla does not seem to be very much affected by the cancellations. In fact, the company feels more relieved probably because there is less pressure put on them. Musk even compared themselves to a restaurant, saying that if people queue up for a hamburger when there is already an hour and a half wait, there’s really no reason to attract more customers.

Cars Direct earlier reported that Chevrolet is currently putting orders on hold for the new Corvette. Despite recently announcing a series of updates, it is unfortunate that the 2018 models may not arrive until this December.

Reports say the postponement was due to the temporary shutdown of the Bowling Green facility in Kentucky. This is to give way to the plant’s ongoing construction that will last for about three months. As spokesperson Ron Klinon said, the upgrade will commence in August to let them complete the construction of GM’s state of the art paint facility. Because of this, the production has been rescheduled to November which means the 2018 Corvette may not be found at the dealerships until December.

As for Chevrolet’s inventory, we learned that it currently has about 14,700 Corvettes in total. This is equivalent to a 146-day supply which isn’t so bad at all considering Chevy also needs to empty out its inventory especially of the existing year models. That said, the figures released by the Automotive News Data Center may benefit General Motors but the consumers may be put at a disadvantage with the diminishing supply of Corvettes--- especially when it comes to the decreasing number of incentives available.

Polestar is notably known to be Volvo's internal performance specialists, and around last year Polestar revealed to the public that it will utilize electrification to further advance the power of various Volvo vehicles. Only recently, the Swedish marque announced that Polestar is now a separately-branded electrified global high performance car company. Thomas Ingenlath, Senior Vice President of Volvo, will immediately fill in the position of Chief Executive Officer at the former tuning studio in the bid to accelerate the process of establishing Polestar as a standalone organization. Ingenlath is also the one responsible for the company's magnificent new design language that is spotted on the XC70, XC90 and S90.

This news finally clarified the rumors flying about earlier this month, and now we can take a peek of the newly-made Polestar logo that will be adorned on the upcoming performance EV releases. Hakan Samuelsson, President and Chief Executive of Volvo cars, said that by putting Thomas up the Polestar organization ladder, it directly reflects the commitment to set-up a truly distinct standalone brand within the Volvo Car Group.

Samuelsson also said that Polestar will be a believable competitor in the emerging worldwide market for high performance electrified cars. And with this, the company will be able to market electrified cars to the world's most challenging, progressive drivers found in all parts of the world. Meanwhile, Jonathan Goodman will also join Polestar's organization by taking on the position of Chief Operation Officer, leaving behind his previous position as Senior Vice President Corporate Communication of Volvo Cars.

Fisker Inc.’s countdown to the official unveiling of the new Fisker EMotion in mid-August 2017 has practically started after the carmaker released the first official teaser images and some details of its latest electric car project.

According to Fisker, the new EMotion was designed all new from inside out, with its electric car proportions made into reality by a structure made from carbon fiber and aluminum. In penning the design of the new EMotion, Fisker focused on the safety and convenience of its passengers. In fact, Fisker’s patented frontal crash structure has already surpassed the current passenger safety standards. Likewise, the new EMotion provides a luxurious and roomy cabin that offers a generous amount of legroom.

As designed, the Fisker EMotion shown in the first official images look different from the prototype’s teaser images released in October 2016. Compared with the prototype, the new EMotion – assuming that this is the final design – has a smaller grille, more realistic headlights, and more stunning turn signals. The bright aluminum centerpiece on the front end of the EMotion is home to a LIDAR system. This technology is supported by two cameras on the side mirrors, allowing for a panoramic, 360-degree view.

A racing team is claiming that it has managed to break the lap record in its category in the ever-demanding Nurburgring circuit in 2016 while driving a road-going Volvo S60 Polestar, but it elected to keep things in secrecy – until now.

Cyan Racing -- the official Volvo factory auto racing team based in Gothenburg, Sweden – said that it did break the record for the fastest four-door, road-legal production car in the Green Hell.

According to the account, after the FIA World Touring Car Championship round in the Nordschleife in Germany, Cyan Ryan opted to stay behind and conduct a so-called secret test involving a road-going Volvo S60 Polestar. This secret test was conducted by Cyan Racing in order to harvest more know-how about the Volvo S60 Polestar as well as to bring more improvements into the car. Taking advantage of their motorsport expertise, Cyan Racing went on to boost the performance levels of the Volvo S60 Polestar, thereby making it more potent on the road.

Mercedes-Benz Vans has yet to officially unveil the production version of its X-Class luxury pickup truck, but quite a number of interested customers are asking the German carmaker whether it would be possible to place an order. But if you are living in the United Kingdom, you could now reserve a new X-Class pickup premium truck from Mercedes-Benz.

Mercedes-Benz Vans UK has now opened the reservations book for the new Mercedes-Benz X-Class, thanks to the “phenomenally early demand” for the premium pickup truck. This means that potential UK customers would just need to shell out some cash to have their names listed on the reservation list for the UK-spec Mercedes X-Class. Mercedes Vans UK has pegged the reservation fee at around £1,000 (more or less $1,248 or €1,162). When Mercedes finally and officially launches the sale of the X-Class, those who have their names on the list will be first to order the premium pickup truck.

However, since this is just a reservation list for the X-Class, UK customers who think that the premium pickup truck isn’t worth their money could back out from the roll. Of course, they wouldn’t have to worry about their reservation money since Mercedes Vans UK is prepared to refund the entire amount should they decide to withdraw from owning the UK-spec plush pickup truck.

After twenty long years, Alpine’s major comeback comes with a special surprise. A limited-only “Premiere Edition” sports car is slated to come out next year. It should be noted that the official details on the car’s specs would be announced much later on. Until now, the production car still goes by the product code “A120”. ---- But it will probably resemble Alpine’s Vision Concept at the very least.

According to reports, the power likely comes from a 1.8 litre turbo engine with up to 250 hp. We also heard about its impressive acceleration speed of 0-62mph in just 4.5 seconds. Even so, the company hasn’t disclosed any information about its “Premiere Edition” except that it will come with “exclusive appointments.”

One more thing; Alpine’s exclusive variant will be limited to only 1,955 customers. The strange numbers apparently refer to the year when Jean Rédélé founded the company back in 1955.

The car brand has stopped taking orders only a couple of months ago since they needed time to determine the exact number of units that they have to build. Apparently, they ran short of headlamps and had no idea then if they can still accommodate all the orders. In fact, it was earlier reported that they also ran out of “aero wings” around September and that also prompted them to postpone further bookings for the ACR variant.

There are no details regarding the total number of Vipers to be assembled. But a big chunk of the final batch was already bought by a dealership based in North Carolina. Gerry Wood Dodge from Salisbury has come up with its own 2017 limited edition models. The ACR as we know is the most popular of the entire Viper’s line-up. No doubt, Gerry Wood Dodge’s special edition ACRs was allegedly sold out in less than an hour.

In a recent interview with the Detroit News, Fiat Chrysler’s head for passenger car brands Tim Kuniskis described how the “demand for ACR” was unexpected. Since they knew more or less how many they could build, he thinks that they are almost ready to take new orders.

Having a Ferrari in your garage is something you can be proud of. This is much expected as driving a Ferrari gives a new meaning to the word “exclusive.” This is typified by the fact that each Ferrari costs a lot of money and only a handful are willing shell out cash in mid-six digits. Although crafting a Ferrari car requires time, it doesn’t however take too long before customers receive their units.

Lately, however, Ferrari has been receiving a deluge of orders for its vehicles and has been hardly keeping up with production. This was disclosed by Herbert Appleroth, chief executive of Ferrari Australasia during the Australian launch of the turbocharged V8-powered GTC4 Lusso T. Appleroth admitted that no thanks to high demand for the Ferrari GTC4 Lusso T, Ferrari needs at least year before it could deliver the units to customers in some areas in Australia. This means that if an Australian customer now places an order for the Ferrari GTC4 Lusso T, the wait would probably end only in 2018 or even later.

Matters are worse for practically all other vehicles in Ferrari’s stable – placing an order now would mean a lag time of nearly two years. This means that a customer who placed an order for the Ferrari 488 GTB, Spider, or California T would need to wait until late 2018 before he or she could take delivery of the unit.

Volvo disclosed that following the acquisition of Polestar, the new subsidiary will be tasked with working on the planned lineup of electric vehicles. This is expected as Polestar has a long history when it comes to racing.

With this, Polestar can likely make new electric models, shared Lex Kerssemakers, President and CEO of Volvo Cars North America. While people have compared this buyout with what happened between Mercedes-Benz and its purchase of AMG, Kerssemakers assures customers that the goal will not be building racing cars that display crazy performance. Rather, he continued, it is all about making cars that can also be used on a daily basis.

Currently, the brand is looking into how to it can benefit from the best of Polestar and the cycle plan that will be launched alongside it, Kerssemakers added. He said further that even if the focus is indeed on performance, it will remain to be about how the brand stands out when it comes to the drivetrain. It appears that in the future, electrification will have a significant part and Polestar is expected to play a role, he concluded.
