Porsche is boosting the appeal of its new Porsche 911 GT3 sports car by unveiling a Touring Package at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA). The new 911 GT3 with Touring Package is simply the adoption and modernization of a concept that dates back to the touring variant 1973 911 Carrera RS. Now, the 911 GT3 with Touring Package is targeted towards the customer who places a great value on classic driving enjoyment with understated looks.
Compared to the standard 911 GT3, the version with the Touring Package features a body that is basically the same, saved for the rear end where the fixed rear wing has been replaced by a variable rear spoiler like on the 911 Carrera. This variable rear spoiler features an additional aerodynamic tear-off edge – also known as Gurney flap – in body color. The “GT3 touring” logo could be found on the rear lid grille. The rear end of the new 911 GT3 with Touring Package also reveals sports exhaust system tailpipes, silver-colored side window strips, headlight washer system covers and the Porsche logo.
Nevertheless, the 911 GT3 with Touring Package remains a high-performance sports car. The front end still features the large air intakes while luggage compartment lid is marked by an air outlet in front. In addition, both the front and rear lights of the 911 GT3 with Touring Package are the same as those on its standard sibling, although the ones on the new variant don’t feature dark tints. In 2014, Porsche stopped the sale and recalled the first 785 units of the 991.1 GT3 after determining that its engine could fail and result in a fire. Following probes, Porsche determined that there was a defect (inclusion) close to the surface of the finger follower -- an inclusion to the material suspected to be the cause of the increased wear of this engine part.

The new edition of the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car for one-make racing debuted at the end of the motorsport season “Night of Champions” celebration at the R&D Centre in Weissach. Porsche’s main reason for not offering a hybrid version of the 911 is that the German company still doesn’t believe that the current battery technology is on par with its expectations for its venerated sports car. But with the rapid pace that the battery technology is growing, that could happen in the next few years. Porsche chief executive Oliver Blume had said that a 911 hybrid may arrive on the mid-cycle refresh of the 992 generation, which should happen by around 2022 or so.

It was only in June this year when Porsche unveiled the 911 Speedster Concept. Perhaps due to overwhelming response or just a part of its plans, the German sports maker has disclosed at the 2018 Paris Motor Show that it will be putting the Porsche 911 Speedster into production.
At the same time, Porsche unveiled at the event the second concept of the 911 Speedster. Essentially, the 911 Speedster Concept II and the 911 Speedster Concept are identical, with the differences being their paintwork and finishes as well as their wheels.

Porsche has already officially announced that it is dropping its diesel-powered vehicles across its lineup while the German sports car maker re-focuses its energy towards electrification. But unofficially, it seems that Porsche is also planning to drop its petrol offerings in favor of an all-electric lineup, save for its 911 sports car.
Citing a person privy with Porsche, manager magazin reported that with the exception of the 911, all other models at Porsche – Boxster, Cayenne, Macan and Panamera – will become pure electric offerings. This means that non-911 models would be dropping not just their diesel engines, but also their petrol engines as well. That basically means no more internal combustion engines at Porsche, except for the 911. The 911 would be spared from being converted into a pure electric unit simply because it is a sports car for the purists.
Porsche conversion of its non-911 models into all-electric vehicles would mean that there would be no hybrid powerplant for these offerings. A classic Porsche evolved and optimized by modern engineering techniques and technologies – this is the Singer DLS Porsche 911. Taking part at the highly prestigious 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed, the new Singer DLS Porsche 911 is a bespoke creation by Singer Vehicle Design and Williams Advanced Engineering that boasts of more power yet lower weight that the model it was based on.
It all started when a customer named Scott Blattner approached Singer Vehicle Design and asked the company to not just restore but also re-imagine his 1990 Porsche 911 (964 Generation) as a more powerful yet lighter sports car. Sensing it needs help for this one-of-a-kind project, Singer approached Williams Advanced Engineering. The collaboration between Singer and Williams to come up with a bespoke creation started around two years ago. Eventually, Singer and Williams, along with former Porsche engineers Norbert Singer and Hans Mezger as well as other technical partners, worked hard to re-imagine the 1990 Porsche 911.
In the process, the partners decided into inject into the project car a number of alluring features. Thus, from a standard two-wheel drive 1990 Porsche 911, born was Singer DLS Porsche 911. The DLS stands for Dynamics and Lightweighting Study, which appropriately conveys the fact that the DLS Porsche 911 is more powerful and weighs lighter than the original model. As it is, the 1990 Porsche 911 is powered by an engine that delivers 247 hp, and weighs around 3,031 lbs. The 993 generation of the Porsche 911 (Porsche 993) is already considered as an icon. Gunther Werks, a company from Southern California, has dedicated itself into re-mastering this icon by embedding modern technologies and features. Its Gunther Werks 400R is seen as a modern yet classic masterpiece, and the company has already commenced the limited production run of this bespoke 993 conversion.
The Gunther Werks 400R is essentially a high-performance, bespoke vehicle that pays tribute to the naturally aspirated Porsche 993. Featuring both the silhouette and soul of the classic 993, the 400R is lighter yet stronger and more rigid than the original model. This is thanks to the use of carbon-fiber composite for the body panels, roof, deck lid and spoiler.
Gunther Werks ultimately decided to limit the production run of the 400R to 25 examples. However, each example is completely bespoke. After the German automaker unveiled a new 911 Speedster Concept on Friday, we are starting to think that Porsche’s long line of Speedster models could expand again. Just like the newest 911, the Speedster concept uses a familiar formula by chopping the windshield and position it at a more aggressive angle, get rid of the vestigial rear seats and add a new double bubble cover to replace the 911’s vestigial rear seats.
All this can be found in the Speedster Concept, with the latter item made of carbon fiber. Speedsters also often get rid of the electric roof. Porsche did not provide us with any photos of the lightweight cover on the Speedster Concept, but it did confirm that the unit will provide some weather protection.
Under the beltline, Porsche used the body of a 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet. But instead of using the 911’s traditional mirrors, we instead used a set of chromed, Talbot style racing mirrors, which are also probably the coolest mirrors on this planet. The rest of the body is then dressed in GT Silver and White paint, just like that of Porsche’s racers of yesteryear. On both sides, there is a huge number 70 in a white circle, which gives tribute to the automaker’s seventieth anniversary, below that, of course is the Porsche lettering. Late last year, on September 20, Porsche took the 911 GT2 RS to the Nurburgring in attempt to take down the lap record for the fastest production car around the ‘Ring, finishing in 6 minutes and 47.3 seconds. Now, it looks like its record could be broken again soon, this time by Lamborghini’s up and coming Aventador Superveloce Jota (SVJ). So does it have the goods to surpass the already impressive record?
We have been seeing a lot of spy shots of the said model as it is being tested in Sant’Agata Bolognese at the Green Hell but it looks like Lamborghini was there for another reason. According to those who witnessed it, the naturally aspirated V12 supercar managed to lap the ‘Ring in 6 minutes and 54 seconds or 6.7 seconds slower than the Porsche. However, they made it clear that the track conditions were less ideal then.
When the new Lamborghini attempted its run on the Green Hell, a number of other automakers were out on the track, so traffic was indeed a factor that affected its results. Aside from that, there was a section of the circuit that had a few cones, and this also took their toll on the SVJ’s lap time. But even with all the obstacles and the imperfect conditions, it was still able to finish in 6:54, which is a striking result. This probably means that in ideal conditions, the hardcore Aventador will drop below the 6:50 mark. A few days ago, we talked about two cars that attempted to set a record at the Nurburgring. One of those would be the Porsche 911 GT3 RS that finished the course in 6 minutes and 56 seconds. To be more precise, it was actually 6:56.4 and Porsche has finally confirmed the performance of the track focused model, with Kevin Estre behind its wheel. Impressively, he was able to beat its predecessor’s record by as much as 24 seconds.
Estre wasn’t the only one who drove the 911 GT3 RS, as he was also joined by fellow driver, Lars Kern. Both of them completed four laps of the 20.6 kilometer (12.8 mile) Nurburgring, or the so called Green Hell. And both drivers finished each lap in under seven minutes with just a few tenths of a second difference. This is clear proof of how fast naturally aspirated cars are, especially when the one driving it is extremely skilled too.
During the fastest lap finished by the 911 GT3 RS, the conditions were very much ideal too. Before, we talked about how many of today’s automakers want to set Nurburgring lap records. Now, we are going to talk about the two newest contenders that tried to take the crown home for the fastest lap around the Green Hell. The Chevy Corvette ZR1 and the Porsche 911 GT3 RS both recorded pretty fast laps, but only one managed to make a significant run at the record.
It was BridgeToGantry who shared information about this, saying that the GT3 RS, packed with 520 horsepower (383 kilowatts) lapped the ‘Ring in under 7 minutes, where its fastest lap was 6 minutes and 56 seconds. However, this won’t break records. Meanwhile, the more potent GT2 RS did it in 6 minutes and 47.30 seconds, and this we can say is an impressive record. In fact, this performance is enough to make it to the record board as among the top five production cars of all time.
The Corvette ZR1, on the other hand, was not as successful, finishing with over 7 minutes, despite its 755 horsepower (563 kilowatts) output. To be more specific, bystanders clocked it in at 7 minutes 12 seconds. That makes the ZR1 just a little better than the Z06’s 7 minutes and 19 seconds two years ago. After a number of spy photos, as well as some leaked ones, we can finally say that 2018 Porsche 911 GT3 RS is going to arrive soon, with the latest, high resolution photos that had been published. Porsche recently decided that they will stick to their roots as long as they possibly could, and I mean as long as the market allows it. The automaker is assuring its buyers that it is still committed to rear-mounted, naturally aspirated engines as well as manual gearboxes despite the news circulating that the new 911 GT3 is allegedly gaining a turbocharged engine, while losing the manual gearbox.
Dr. Frank Steffen Walliser, Porsche’s head of GT motorsport and GT road cars, in his interview with Australian publication Drive during the Bathurst 12 Hour, denied reports of a fully turbocharged engine lineup.
The said engine lineup will likely be paired with an aluminum architecture shared with other cars like the Audi R8 and the Lamborghini Huracan. He added that a sports car will fit a normally aspirated engine, and that with a turbocharged engine, performance will be different. Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA), revealed that in the U.S. market, a total of 3,913 units were sold in December 2017. These are for the model lines that include the 718 Boxster, 911, Cayenne, Cayman, Macan, and Panamera. With this, total U.S. vehicle sales of the Porsche for 2017 are 55,420 units. This is higher by 2.1% when compared to sales in 2016, at 54,280 units.
Meanwhile, sales of the Porsche Approved Certified Pre-Owned vehicles amounted to 2,153 units. This represents an increase of 24.6% compared to sales in December 2016. In terms of total annual sales, the figure stands at 19,104 deliveries, an increase of 12.5%.
For December 2017, the Porsche Macan represented almost 37% of the total sales with 1,444 units sold. This was followed by the Cayenne at 24% with 940 units and at third is the 911 at around 20% for 773 units sold.
