Audi has just introduced its new flagship model -- the 2018 Audi A8 (D5) – following a slew of teaser photos and short videos in the past few months. Aside from its gasoline (petrol) and diesel versions, the new Audi A8 flagship will also be offered as a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) – as the A8 L e-tron quattro -- but a later date. But as to when the PHEV would arrive in the United States, it is reportedly going state-side not this year or in 2018, but sometime early 2019.
According to a report from InsideEVs, a spokesperson from Audi disclosed that the A8 L e-tron quattro is likely to be available to US clients in 2019, although an official decision over the matter has yet to be made, or to be disclosed. As expected, the A8 L e-tron quattro would have its debut in Europe in the middle of 2018. Audi also intends to sell the plug-in hybrid version of its new flagship model in the Far East, particularly in China, at around the same time as in the US (2019).
As Audi announced, the German premium carmaker will initially offer the new A8 two extensively reengineered turbocharged V6 engines – a 3.0-liter TFSI gasoline mill and a 3.0-liter TDI diesel unit. The 3.0 TFSI V6 engine is tuned to deliver 460 hp (338 kW) while the 3.0 TDI mill is engineered to generate 435 hp (210 kW). These V6 engines will be followed soon by two eight-cylinder units: a 4.0 TFSI gasoline engine that delivers 460 hp (338 kW) and a 4.0 TDI diesel unit that generates 435 hp (320 kW). Topping the range is a 6.0-liter W12 mill. Sorry to say this to the Sport Quattro Concept fanatics. If you guys have been hoping for the production of this iconic concept to begin, prepare for your dreams to be quashed. Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Audi Sport, has no interest in producing the said model. Although Winkelmann referred to it as a “nice dream,” he feels like there is so much more to take care of in the company, and that as of now, it is not his top priority. Instead, the Audi CEO is currently focusing on the company’s lineup.
In 2010, Audi initially launched the RS5 concept to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Quattro, as a contemporary version of the original Quattro sports coupe (first launched in 1980 at the Geneva Motor Show). This was followed by an update in 2013 when they presented the Sport Quattro with a hybrid 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 TFSI engine, boasting an output of 690 horsepower (515 kilowatts) and 590 pound-feet (800 NM) of torque, wearing a stunning yellow paint.
And just a year later at the 2014 Consumer Electronics show, the red Sport Quattro Laserlight concept made its debut, again with added features such as the laser-assisted matrix LED headlights. For those pleading that Audi’s TT two-door coupe and roadster powered by the 2.0-liter TDI engine would get the known quattro all-drive drive technology, it seems that the German premium carmaker has heard your prayers. Yes, an Audi TT 2.0 TDI quattro is now available.
However, there is a twist to this. Audi’s all-wheel drive technology could only be fitted into a 2.0 TDI engine-powered 2017 TT coupe or roadster if the S tronic six-speed dual-clutch transmission is availed. The resulting variant would be the 2017 Audi TT 2.0 TDI quattro S tronic, which boasts of all-wheel drive agility and excellent diesel economy. Of course, the 2017 Audi TT Coupe 2.0 TDI with six-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive (FWD) remains available to order.

Audi is launching the e-tron quattro concept: a statement of how the brand sees electric mobility in the future. The all-electric drive system found on the new concept car combines well with the aerodynamic design. Its dynamic appearance is highlighted by the fact that its flat greenhouse narrows to the rear.
The e-tron quattro has a length of 4.88 meters, a width of 1.93 meters, and a height of 1.54 meters. SUVs in general have a drag coefficient of more than 0.30 but the e-tron quattro stands at 0.25. This is the reason why Audi’s SUV can go for more than 500 kilometers or 310 miles.
When the car reaches speeds of 50mph or more, the many aerodynamic elements on its hood, flanks, and rear portion are activated electronically and direct the air flow as necessary in order to improve the flow around and through the car. Audi has just introduced the new R18 e-tron Quattro, an updated version of last year’s vehicle which will compete in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and in the Le Mans 24 Hours. The R18 e-tron Quattro will compete in the 4-megajoule class and features a twofold quantity of hybrid energy, revised aerodynamics as well as a lot of detailed work.
If you take a closer look to the previous model, you will see that the new R18 e-tron Quattro features an updated design, although its basic structure is closely akin to its predecessor. Earlier today we talked about the facelifted 2015 Audi A6 Sedan and Avant models, but now we will take a closer look at the 2015 A6 Allroad Quattro Facelift. Based on the A6 Avant, the new A6 Allroad Quatttro is able to take its passengers almost anywhere thanks to its raised body and steel lining that underside of the front and rear ends.
When it comes to design, the new model features vertical slats in the Singleframe grille, new headlights that can be configured as an option with LED or matrix LED technology, as well as a new set of taillights that get a new LED design. According to Audi, the A6 Allroad Quattro Facelift is offered with a choice of four 3.0-liter V6 engines, a 3.0-liter TFSI and three versions of the 3.0-liter TDI engine.

Audi has rolled off the production its six millionth unit endowed with quattro drive at its Ingolstadt site. The six millionth unit, an Audi SQ5 in monsoon gray metallic, will be delivered to a family in the United States.
The unit marks global success of Audi Quattro, which has reached it six millionth quattro driven car since building the first one in 1980. Now, Audi has around 170 quattro versions, making it as the brand offering the widest selection of all-wheel drive vehicles among luxury car makers.
Audi built 710,095 cars with quattro drive. The carmaker also builds around 2,000 quattro drive models daily off its production lines at its Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm sites. Customers have been flocking to Quattro models. Audi fielded three R18 e-tron quattro cars on the ‘Circuit des 24 Heures’ at La Sarthe, using the event to intensively test its vehicles. In total, the cars completed a total of 284 laps for 3,870 kilometers in eight hours. During the four hours in the morning, Lucas di Grassi, Loïc Duval, Tom Kristensen in car number 1; Marcel Fässler, André Lotterer, Benoît Tréluyer in the car number; 2 and Filipe Albuquerque and Marco Bonanomi in car number 3, tested the set-up work for the three cars.
They were also able to test the aerodynamic configuration and the grip of the R18 e-tron quattro cars. The drive also allowed the drivers to align their race cars and their personal driving styles with the energy consumption targets that regulators set for each track.
Marco Bonanomi set a lap time of 3 minutes and 23.799 seconds to record the fastest time in the first practice session. At the 2014 Worthersee Meeting in Reifniz (Karten) from May 28-31, Audi will bring the A3 Clubsport Quattro Concept. If you ask us, this new concept car actually previews the new Audi RS3 Sedan, but for the moment we don’t have any official details. The dramatic new A3 Clubsport Quattro Concept is based on the S3 Sedan but comes with a 2.5-liter TFSI engine found on the RS Q3.
The engine delivers an impressive 525 hp (386 kW) and a maximum torque of 600 Nm (442 lb-ft) of torque, available between 2,300 and 6,000 rpm. With these numbers, the A3 Clubsport Quattro Concept accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.6 seconds, while top speed is electronically limited at 310 km/h or 192.6 mph.
In order to achieve these performances, the concept car suffered extensive modifications as Audi added a larger turbocharger with up to 1.5 bar of relative boost pressure as well as a modified intercooler. Compared with the standard S3 Sedan, the A3 Clubsport Quattro Concept is 10 mm lowers. The new Audi R18 e-tron quattro diesel hybrid managed to reach the minimum weight limit of 870 kg set for LMP1 cars competing for the 2014 season. Before achieving that feat, Audi production and race car engineers had to hurdle several challenges to the stiffer safety rules while making the R18 e-tron competitive enough to take on its rivals.
New regulations have allowed the racing weight to be lowered from from 915 kg to 870 kg, and the difference 45 kg means a lot in racing. Likewise, new technical regulations carry various requirements that called new solutions that result to an increase in weight. For instance, Zylon side panels were now prescribed to better protection during lateral impacts.
Audi Sport has to redesign the monocoque to withstand the higher test loads specified starting this year. Also, eight wheel tethers are now allowed to prevent wheels from separating from the car in case of a crash. Audi didn’t stop with the all-new TT and TTS but also unveiled the brand new TT Quattro Sport Concept at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. In our opinion, this new concept car actually previews the next-generation TT-RS.
As you can see from the photos, this new concept car comes with a new body kit consisting of a new front bumper with large air intakes, a big singleframe grille, a front end splitter made from carbon fiber, extended fenders (30 millimeters (1.18 in)), new side sill, a new rear air diffuser with integrated exhaust system featuring two big pipes and a new rear wing.
The design of the car is completed by the 20-inch wheels with a central locking mechanism and wrapped in semi-slick tires but also by the Crystal White paint finish. Inside, we find plenty of Alcantara, even the door handles are in fact a diagonal strip of Alcantara. Audi is targeting a three-peat at the 2014 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) as well as another resounding success in the Le Mans 24 Hours next year -- boasting a Le Mans prototype that has been redeveloped from scratch. While the 2014 Audi R18 e-tron quattro seems like a continued development of the World Championship winning car and Le Mans winner of the past two years, it is almost an entirely new vehicle -- aside from the name.
This is because Audi Sport factually redeveloped every single component of the 2014 Audi R18 e-tron Quattro due to new LMP1 regulations that will come into effect next year. The basic elements of the Audi R18 e-tron quattro’s new configuration were defined in 2012 while the design of all the single components commenced later that year. Audi rolled out the new LMP1 sports car in the early fall of 2013, followed by track tests of the latest R18.
The new Technical Regulations contain redefined powertrain, body dimensions, safety and aerodynamics -- all of which were taken into account in the new R18. Audi Sport endowed the new R18 with an improved V6 TDI mid-engine, powering its rear wheels. Audi has commenced track tests of the new Audi R18 e-tron quattro in the Sebring race track in Florida. Audi Sport in Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm has developed a new Le Mans prototype that complies with the Technical Regulations for 2014 and is designed for maximum efficiency.
The development of the new LMP1 sports car began in 2012, with the rollout occurring in the early fall of 2013. Audi is testing the next-generation R18 e-tron quattro on the Sebring race track, where the carmaker’s all new Le Mans prototypes have had to prove their worth. “We’ve reached a crucial stage in this project,” remarked head of Audi Motorsport Wolfgang Ullrich.
He said that after building the first prototype, they are now conducting tests testing on various race tracks. Audi's Nanuk Quattro was definitely a head-turner at the recently finished Frankfurt Motor Show. Visitors and journalists at the show were seen taking a second look at the cross between a sports car and a sports utility vehicle. However, the Nanuk Quattro initially wasn’t meant to be part of Audi’s exhibit at the show so it came as a surprise that it became one of the event’s stars.
The two-seater Nanuk Quattro is a slightly reworked version of Italdesign's Parcour Concept that was unveiled by the Volkswagen-owned design house at the Geneva Auto Show in March 2013. Back then, the Parcour was under the Lamborghini badge. Although the Parcour was warmly received, people were not enthusiastic about it.
Parcour was a potential display at the Concorso d'Eleganza at Villa d'Este, but organizers denied its presence. Audi’s new Sport Quattro Concept made its global debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA). This new concept is designed to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Sport Quattro, which was actually introduced at the 1983 IAA. The new Sport Quattro Concept has a wheelbase of 2,784 millimeters. In addition, it has the following dimensions: 4,602 millimeters in length, 1,964 millimeters in width, and a height of only 1,386 millimeters.
When it comes to the design, the new car boasts of angular, flat C-pillars, rectangular double headlights with Matrix LED technology (which we first saw on the new Audi A8 Facelift) and a new hexagonal single-frame grille. Its rear end features rectangular tail lights and a spoiler that extends from the rear hatch at higher speeds.
The driver is obviously the focus of its interior since the steering wheel, digital instrument cluster and head-up display are in his or her direct field of view. Furthermore, it is fitted with sporty racing bucket seats with folding backs. Its interior features the touchwheel of the characteristic Audi MMI control unit that makes entering data easy. Audi’s winning streak has yet to be broken this 2013 sports car season as its R18 e-tron quattro hybrid sports car has already grabbed the fourth of eight rounds in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), the São Paulo 6 Hours. The fourth round of the FIA WEC in Brazil saw Audi securing a 1-2 finish over the weekend.
Finishing first is an Audi R18 e-tron quattro (car number 1) piloted by Marcel Fässler, André Lotterer and Benoît Tréluyer, followed by another unit driven by Loïc Duval, Tom Kristensen, Allan McNish (car number 2). The top placers, who are the current World Champions, now have cut the gap between themselves and their teammates in the drivers’ standings by eight to 22 points. Le Mans winners Duval, Kristensen, McNish entered the race with a 30-point advantage over Fässler, Lotterer and Tréluyer.
The Brazil victory is the World Champions’ second WEC win of the season after the Spa in May. Fässler, Lotterer and Tréluyer crossed the finish line at Interlagos with a three-lap advantage over their sister car. In the early stages of the São Paulo 6 Hours, Audi factory driver McNish of car number 2 was dominating, until it met several disasters along the way. As we told you here, Audi is set to reveal a new version of the Quattro Concept car at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA). Dubbed Sport Quattro Concept, the new vehicle is a plug-in hybrid, powered by the 4.0-liter V8 petrol engine used by the RS7, RS6 models but also by an electric motor that delivers 150 hp.
As a result, the Sport Quattro Concept delivers an impressive 600 hp and will be able to hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 3.0 seconds and a top speed of 200 mph or 320 km/h. Just like any other e-tron model, the Sport Quattro Concept will be able to be used as an electric vehicle, but the range will be limited. According to Car and Driver, the Sport Quattro Concept uses Audi’s modular-longitudinal MLB architecture and will offer enough room for four persons. A carbon fiber framework was used to keep the weight down.

The innovative design and the groundbreaking technology of the Audi fleet shuttle quattro have allowed this fictional car to become a definite part of this science fiction film.
This fictional Audi fleet shuttle quattro is the first time that Audi unveiled a purely virtual premium car in a feature film. Staying true to its "Vorsprung durch Technik" philosophy, Audi collaborated with “Ender’s Game” director Gavin Hood and production team to employ the latest technology and digitally integrate the Audi fleet shuttle quattro into the film’s scenes. The carmaker remarked that the design of the Audi fleet shuttle quattro reflects the technological world of "Ender's Game."

LE MANS - It was a crazy weekend here at Le Mans, as Audi won the Le Mans 24 Hours endurance race with its R18 e-tron Quattro a.k.a. a hybrid race car and witted with quattro drive. Victory was clinched by Loïc Duval (F), Tom Kristensen (DK) and Allan McNish (GB).
For those who don’t know, this was the twelfth triumph for Audi at Le Mans and according to the official press release it was the most difficult hardest-fought ones, as Toyota proved to be a better rival comparing it with last year’s problems. The Toyota TS030 Hybrid LPM1 driven by Davidson/Buemi/Sarrazin managed to finish the race on the second place.
The third place went to the #3 Audi R18 e-tron Quattro driven by Gene/Di Grassi/Jarvis. The #7 Toyota TS030 Hybrid race driven by Wurz/Lapierre/Nakajima finished the race on the fourth place. For the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA), which will open its doors in September, Audi is preparing a big surprise for its fans – an extreme lightweight sports coupe based on the Quattro Concept.
The new car will be a resurrection of the legendary 1984 Sport Quattro, and according to the German media it will be a 2+2 seater much sharper and more sculptural than the concept version. Audi will use the A5 platform to build the new Quattro successor, which will be 4.4 metres long, 1.87 m wide and a height of just 1.34. The German manufacturer will use a mix of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) to build its new car, but also magnesium and aluminum in order to obtain a total weight of 1,300 kg.
Under the hood, we will not find the 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine found on the concept version and capable to deliver 408 hp and 480 Nm of torque.
