It was back in October last year when Volkswagen began teasing us about the fully electric Pikes Peak racer, and last month, they showed us fully revealing images of the model. Now finally, VW has opened up and is ready to talk about the model’s technical specs.
This zero-emissions race car carries two electric motors, that gives out a combined output of 680 horsepower (500 kilowatts) and a considerable amount of torque at 650 Newton metres (480 pound feet). These numbers are already impressive but wait until we tell you that the vehicle weighs under 1,100 kilograms (2,425 pounds). If you do the math, it’s easy to conclude that that this car can go quite fast.
According to VW, in only 2.25 seconds, the I.D. R Pikes Peak can accelerate to 69 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in as short as 2.25 seconds. Having said that, it even is faster than a Formula 1 and Formula E racers. Though we were not told yet about its maximum top speed, it really isn’t that crucial considering that acceleration will be significantly more important when tackling all 156 corners of the hill climb in Colorado Springs.Read the entire article VW I.D. R Pikes Peak goes faster than a Formula 1 Car
Volkswagen had been reluctant to offer info about its new race car but it seems to have gotten over some of its shyness as it published the first batch of teasers last October 18. The company plans to have this model participate in the 2018 Pikes Peak International Hill Club. When looking at it, one can assess how fast it will be, with its massive front splitter and a huge rear wing. As of now, the only images we have are of the EV’s silhouette. This alone is getting us excited about next year’s hill climb, which will take place on June 24.
The last time Volkswagen attended the challenging Pikes Peak event was over two decades ago, and some of us were not even born yet. It was a twin-engined Golf that the company brought to the event back in 1987, where one engine drive the front wheels, while the other powering the rear axle. Too bad the all-wheel drive creation was not able to finish the hill climb. Decades later, Volkswagen is getting ready for a rematch with what they have to reveal soon.
Volkswagen Motorsport is currently developing the fully electric race car, and based on the photos, it looks like it features a fighter jet-styled canopy on top of its curvaceous body. The automaker is currently working with their technical development center based in their hometown in Wolfsburg Germany. The biggest challenge these engineers will have to face is to create an EV that a skilled driver can drive to complete the hill climb in under 8 minutes and 57.118 seconds, that is needed by Rhys Millen and his e0 PP100 last year.Read the entire article VW will attempt Pikes Peak record in 2018 with new fully electric race car

According to Volkswagen Motorsport director Sven Smeets, the Golf GTI TCR’s first full season was “a great success”. During its first year, Liqui Moly Team Engstler and Leopard Racing won in the Asian TCR and international championships.
The hatchback now comes with bigger wheel arches, wider fenders and distinct air intakes while the redesigned diffusers provide the race car with optimum air flow. Eduard Weidi, TRC project leader said that the performance of the car has been further optimized with the new aerodynamics – this is done by increasing its overall downforce and by reducing aerodynamic drag.Read the entire article Refreshed Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR ready to hit the tracks this 2017

Volkswagen is introducing its smallest sports utility vehicle so far, this further expanding its SUV lineup. With the new and tiny Volkswagen T-Cross, the German carmaker is taking advantage of the continued growing demand for SUVs, whether large or small.
With a styling that makes it appear like a smaller brother of the Volkswagen T-Roc, the new VW T-Cross is underpinned by the A0 version of the VW Group’s MQB platform. This is the same platform that underpins other models in the VW Group such as the VW Polo and Audi A1 as well as the SEAT Ibiza and SEAT Arona crossover.
The compact nature of the new VW T-Cross is wrapped in its small dimensions. It boasts of a length of just 161.8 inches (4.11 meters), making nearly as long as the Nissan Juke small crossover. Inside, the new VW T-Cross can accommodate between 13.6 cubic feet (385 liters) to 16.07 cubic feet (455 liters) of cargo, depending on the position of the rear seats. These rear seats can slide 5.5 inches (14 cm), thereby increasing or reducing the available cargo space. When the rear seats are folded down, the cargo space offered by the VW T-Cross increases to 45.24 cubic feet (1,281 liters). An optional folding front passenger seat can be availed by customers who need more cargo room.Read the entire article New Volkswagen T-Cross is the carmaker’s latest and smallest SUV

In June this year, rival carmakers Ford and Volkswagen inked a memorandum of agreement for a possible strategic alliance. Months after signing the MoU, automotive industry analysts are now floating the ideas of possible merger or an equity swap between the American and German companies. Nonetheless, Ford is quick enough to quash such ideas even before they get out of hand.
Under the signed MoU, Ford and VW are exploring a number of potential projects in several areas like the development of a range of commercial vehicles together. Likewise, a possible partnership would also work to better serve the evolving needs of customers. The parties have already made it clear back then that the potential alliance wouldn’t involve any equity arrangement.
However, The Detroit Bureau published an analysis that the potential alliance between Ford and VW might go beyond the commercial vehicle market, since doing so could be beneficial for both carmakers. For instance, Ford can benefit from VW’s robust presence not just in Europe, but also in Latin America and China. On the other hand, VW can take advantage of Ford’s strong fortified status in the United States, particular in the pickup and SUV segments.Read the entire article Ford kills rumors over potential merger or equity swap with Volkswagen
German carmaker Volkswagen has just revealed the next generation of the VW Passat family sedan, but there is a twist. The all-new Passat that was just unveiled was created for the massive automotive market in China. Nonetheless, this Passat is an important model as might be able to provide a glimpse of how the next-gen sedan for the United States might look like when it finally arrives.
Nonetheless, it should be noted that while having the same name, the VW Passat bound for China is much different from the existing large sedan models in the United States and in Europe. The recently unveiled China-bound Passat sedan is undeniably influenced by the VW brand’s understated and simple design mantra. In fact, the front end of this China-bound Passat sedan seems to be adopted from the Arteon, especially the shape of its new grille.
The Arteon-like front grille of the China-bound VW Passat is flanked by elegant headlights that extend to the sides. When viewed from the sides, this Passat reveals a sleek profile with some liftback influences. While this Passat does have a sloped roofline, it is a traditional sedan featuring a small trunk opening.Read the entire article Volkswagen unveils next-generation Passat for China
Just last month, Porsche unveiled the new 935 during the “Rennsport Reunion” motorsport event at Laguna Seca Raceway in California. Featuring a body evoking the legendary Porsche 935/78, the 935 is definitely a race car you would want to drive in the track. Nonetheless, it isn't car you can just drive on the road from your garage to the track. After all, the 935 is a track-only race car and can’t be driven legally on the road.
The problem of getting a track-only race car from a garage to the circuit without circumventing any laws or local ordinances has already been solved a long time ago. To solve such a logistic issue, teams or carmakers have been using transporters, which can be large enough to accommodate more than one race car.
Such a situation is the main theme of one of the latest creative visual projects of Igor Shikitov, an automotive designer from Moscow, Russia. Posted at the Behance social creative site on October 3, 2018, Shikitov’s work was aptly titled “Volkswagen Renntransporter.” After all Porsche is now part of the Volkswagen Group.Read the entire article Volkswagen Renntransporter is home on the wheels for your Porsche 935
Not a few motorists were enthralled when Volkswagen unveiled the ID Buzz Concept at the 2017 Detroit Motor Show. VW is putting the ID Buzz into production and make it available as early as 2022. Now, the German group, through Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, is now testing the waters for the possibility of offering a zero-emission transporter based on the ID Buzz.
The new ID Buzz Cargo is simply a progressive sibling for the ID Buzz. But instead of carrying people, the all-electric ID Buzz Cargo carries out the job as a commercial vehicle. VW unveiled and is currently displaying the ID Buzz Cargo concept at the 2018 IAA Commercial Vehicles in Hannover, Germany (September 20 to 27, 2018). Created as a supplementary model to the VW Transporter T6, the ID Buzz Cargo being presented in Hannover is already close to production, which may happen as early as 2021.
Just like the ID Buzz, the ID Buzz Cargo will be available in different battery sizes, according to the purpose and budget of the customer. Underpinned by the Modular Electric Drive Kit (MEB), the ID Buzz Cargo can be installed with batteries that allow all-electric ranges of between 330 km and over 500 km (as per WLTP). Battery capacities are pegged at between 48 kWh and 111 kWh.Read the entire article Volkswagen ID Buzz Cargo Concept is your next-decade zero-emission transporter

Soon, it will be end of the road for the people’s car from Germany – the Volkswagen Beetle – as the carmaker is due to end the production of the second generation in 2019. Sadly, VW has no plans to give the Beetle a direct successor. Nonetheless, it remains possible that the name “Beetle” would be resurrected as an all-new model distinct from its current two-door form.
A report from Autocar is saying that VW is considering creating a revolutionary new Beetle, one that has four doors and powered by an electric powertrain. The new Beetle could be presented as part of the army of emotional cars that VW plans to launch along its standard models.
The carmaker’s top honcho, Herbert Diess, is bent on introducing these new emotional cars, which will include the production version of the ID Buzz microbus that will be due on 2022. But before the ID Buzz, VW will be introducing the production versions of its volume electric vehicles like the ID hatchback and ID Crozz sports utility vehicle at the end of the decade (2020).Read the entire article VW might bring a new four-door electric-powered Beetle after ID models
As we get closer to the 2018 Paris Motor Show, the list of automakers that will attend the upcoming show is getting shorter. Volkswagen had just announced that they have decided to just skip the show that will take place in the City of Light, an event that takes place every other year. The Paris show alternates with the Frankfurt Motor Show. This news was revealed to us by France-based Autoactu.com. This was further confirmed by VW’s local French branch.
The German brand has doubts on whether it will be beneficial and relevant for them to attend international auto shows. But then, VW said that even if they will not attend the show in France, they will likely organize various actions like test drives in the city during the event. In addition, VW is analyzing prospects of organizing its own events for new car launches, which is something many automakers like Volvo have been practicing for quite some time now. One of the reasons for this could be because participating in these events could be very costly, and they don’t have as much reach compared to that of social media.
Despite the fact that VW will not attend the show, the group’s other brands, including the Skoda, SEAT, Audi and Porsche are said to make their way there. Right now, we do not have the complete details whether the Bentley and Bugatti marques will be there as well. The high end British marque from Crewe is said to work on a couple of new models such as the Continental GTC and the Flying Spur. We would not be surprised if such brands will participate and unveil new products.Read the entire article VW will not be attending the 2018 Paris Motor Show
Have you been thinking of getting yourself a hardcore Volkswagen Golf GTI? Well, if you have, you might want to hear this first - the track-only TCR version is going to receive a road-legal equivalent in the near future. Watch out for the Golf GTI TCR as it makes its debut on May 9 during the annual GTI meeting, which will be held at Worthersee. Without a surprise, this will be billed as a special edition model. Therefore, there is a good chance it will end up being a limited run hot hatch.
Right now, the only part of the car we could really see would be a section of the car’s rear end, and it is only through an appealing digital sketch that shows off the aggressive fins of the diffuser flanked by a pair of huge exhaust tips. By the looks of it, it seems like the Golf GTI TCR has full LED taillights and it rides on what seems like a set of 18 inch wheels.
Under the hood, you’ll find a turbocharged 2.0 liter gasoline engine dialed to carry out as much as 286 horsepower (213 kilowatts) from 6,800 rpm as well as a peak torque of 273 pound feet (370 Newton metres) that starts from 1,600 rpm. This engine will be paired to a seven speed dual clutch automatic gearbox offered as standard equipment, together with the front axle differential lock. Just to remind you, the track ready model is still a lot more powerful with 345 horsepower and 310 pound feet (420 Nm) of torque.Read the entire article Here’s the fastest VW GTI Golf ever – the 286hp TCR road version
Any person you ask about a Volkswagen Beetle can probably distinguish it from a lineup, and that is because this car has been very popular worldwide and has been around for a very long time now. Well, one thing we also know about it is that the VW will not produce a new model anytime soon, and this is why German tuner ABT Sportsline is showing us that there still is life in the aging vehicle. You might think that is just a show car, but the special Beetle Convertible is actually a commission by a managing director of a medium sized company.
Let us first talk about the droptop vehicle’s exterior, as it features a bronze wrap with a slightly matte finish that is complemented with the black logos. It then sits on a set of 19 inch wheels with five sets of double spokes and what the firm refers to as a silver bullet finish.
Because the Beetle is quite an old model, we won’t expect it to have a super powerful engine. This is why Abt decided to install engine upgrades that pushes the 2.0 liter turbocharged four cylinder’s output to 286 horsepower (213 kilowatts) instead of the standard 217 horsepower (162 kilowatts). Along with the engine upgrade is a brake upgrade that includes six piston calipers and 14.57 inch (370 millimeter) rotors. The overall ride height has been lowered as well because of the new springs.Read the entire article ABT Sportsline shows us a modern day VW Beetle
During the Frankfurt Motor Show last year, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles decided to tease European pickup truck enthusiasts with a more powerful version of the V6 Amarok that’s dressed in a striking Turmeric Yellow Metallic. This model is called the Aventura Exclusive Concept, and now has a direct road going rival in the shape of a new range topping version of the luxury workhorse.
Today, the strongest Amarok is packed with 221 horsepower (165 kilowatts) and 406 pound feet (550 Newton metres) of torque. All these come from the 3.0 liter TDI V6 engine. This version has a little more power at 255 horsepower (190 kilowatts) and 428 pound feet (580 Newton meters) of torque. This stands for as much as 34 horsepower improvement of 34 Hp and 22 pound feet (30 Nm) of torque.
That is not all though, because it will be equipped with an overboost function that will temporarily increase the current output of the vehicle by an extra 13 horsepower, totaling up to 268 hp (200 kw). Having said that, this engine is paired to a 4Motion all-wheel drive system through a standard eight speed automatic transmission. The maximum torque is rated at a low 1,400 rpm, whereas the full version is available from 3,250 rpm.Read the entire article More potent VW Amarok is meant to rival the Mercedes-Benz X Class
