Range Rover Evoque celebrates six years of success with Landmark Special Edition

It has been six years since Land Rover introduced the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque. Since then (2011), the Ranger Rover Evoque compact luxury SUV has been one of the carmaker’s best-selling models. Testament to this is the fact that in six years, Land Rover has managed to produce and move around 600,000 units of the Range Rover Evoque.

Certainly, this milestone calls for a celebration. To make that celebration more realistic, the British carmaker is introducing a limited edition of its compact luxury SUV – the Range Rover Evoque Landmark Special Edition. This special edition pays tribute to the Range Rover Evoque’s critically acclaimed design, all-terrain capability as well as unparalleled appeal.

The new Range Rover Evoque Landmark Special Edition is wrapped in Moraine Blue finish -- a color that takes inspiration from the turquoise lakes of the Canadian Rocky Mountains – although it could also be finished in Yulong White and Corris Grey. It is fitted with a dynamic body kit and comes with a number of exterior design details in grey. This includes the Carpathian Grey contrast panoramic roof as well as the Graphite Atlas grille and bonnet. The fender vent and the tailgate lettering are also finished in Graphite Atlas. The new Range Rover Evoque Landmark Special Edition rides on 19-inch Gloss Dark Grey alloy wheels.

The Range Rover Evoque Convertible Concept was unveiled back in 2012 at the Geneva Motor Show and despite Nissan’s decision to drop the Murano CrossCabriolet, Land Rover seems determined to offer an open-top version of its crossover.

The company could offer the Evoque Convertible also with a big refresh for their popular vehicle and we could see the new Ingenium four-cylinder engines.

Just like the concept version, we expect the Evoque Convertible to feature a fabric roof, which will transform it into an open-top vehicle in no time. Details are limited for the moment, but we expect the new convertible crossover to hit the showrooms in less than 12 months.

Land Rover is planning file a complaint with Chinese authorities over a local SUV it claims is too similar to its Evoque SUV, a report by Autocar says. The alleged copy – the Landwind X7 SUV– was unveiled at the Guangzhou Motor Show in China last week.

The X7 looks too much like the Evoque, and even bears the similar font and the lettering positioning on the hood. Land Rover chief executive Ralf Speth told Autocar that the “fact that this kind of copying” is happening in China is “very disappointing.”

He noted that that such copying should not happen since the intellectual property involved is owned by Jaguar Land Rover. He added that any infringement of that intellectual property will be a breach of international regulations applicable globally.

Visitors to the Frankfurt Motor Show witnessed the debut of the 2014 Range Rover Evoque, which features several modifications, of which the most significant is the use of a new nine-speed automatic gearbox. The nine-speed gearbox that ZF supplied was first seen earlier in the year at the Geneva Motor Show as a prototype. Production has already begun for this gearbox.

It will be available as standard for the Land Rover-made Evoque’s one petrol and two diesel engines. Land Rover said that its fuel economy rating is better by up to 11.4% while its CO2 emissions is lower by up to 9.5% in some models. The most frugal – the front-wheel-drive, 148bhp 2.2-litre diesel version -- returns 57.6mpg when combined and has CO2 emissions of 129g/km.

Range Rover also gave the 2014 Evoque an Active Driveline ‘on demand’ four-wheel drive system. This new feature is offered as an option. For improved fuel economy, the all-wheel-drive Evoques makes a switch to front-drive mode during steady driving conditions above 22mph.

A new engineering scholarship program was announced by Zara Phillips at the Royal Windsor Horse Show. The second-eldest granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II said that the Range Rover Evoque WISE Scholarship will give a £9,000 scholarship to three female students or apprentices who want to enter a career or take advanced studies in engineering.

The recipients will also get mentoring support from Land Rover senior engineers as well as WISE representatives. During the launch, Zara mentioned the inspiration she got from her grandmother and her mother in persuading young females to consider an engineering career. It can be recalled that in 1945 when the Queen was only 18 and was then known as Princess Elizabeth, she voluntarily joined the ATS.

She enlisted as a Subaltern but towards the end of the war, she had progressed to the rank of Junior Commander after having completed course No. 1 at the Mechanical Training Center of the ATS. To become a fully qualified driver, she was trained to repair a car, which includes basic engine maintenance and changing the wheel.
