36-kWh battery pack on 2018 Renault Samsung SM3 Z.E. allows for 132-mile range

Back in 2009, Renault introduced to us the Fluence, a compact sedan that was based on the Megane. Whether you remember it or not, that model is still available in many parts of the world such as South Korea, where it is referred to as the Samsung SM3. It was first built at a factory in Busan, and since then it has been available in an all-electric Z.E. (Zero Emission). After several years, the automaker will finally update the said model.

The former Samsung SM3 came equipped with a 22-kilowatt per hour battery pack, while the updated version will be given a bigger battery pack of 36-kWh. The best part about this is that it will not have an impact on the car’s weight. This new and improved battery will let the 2018 Samsung SM3 Z.E. drive for as far as 213 kilometers (132 miles) between charges. However, these are based on the Korean type approval cycle. Overall, the new SM3’s driving range has improved by 57 percent. In the real world (EPA estimated), that would probably be equivalent to 115-120 miles / 185-195 kilometers.

It was just the other day when the SM3 Zero Emission first made its reveal, during the Daegu International Future Auto Expo. In one of their studies, it was found that an average person’s daily trip around South Korea lasted for approximately 25 miles (40 kilometers) last year. This was where Renault and Samsung based their development of the electric sedan, enabling it to run for about five days without the need for its battery to recharge. This will be the perfect choice for those who suffer from range anxiety. The SM3 Z.E. also is considered the market’s only three box saloon.

Renault starts knockdown assembly of Fluence in Malaysia

Renault has commenced local assembly of its Fluence compact sedan in Malaysia as it bids to expand its market share in the Southeast Asian auto market. Tan Chong Group, a distributor for Renault and Nissan in the country, will assemble the Fluence knockdown kits.

Renault said in a statement that introduction of the Fluence in Malaysia serves as the first stage in its target of increasing its growth rate in the country. Renault said the Fluence is targeted to help it win international markets, particularly in countries where three-box sedans are popular.

On the other hand, Renault and Tan Chong are also planning to more than double the number of Renault outlets in Malaysia from the current 10, to by 2016 to 25 by 2016. The two companies have been in partnership in the country since 2003.

Renault Fluence Z.E. targeting businesses who seek a green image

Renault's Fluence Z.E. compact sedan is aimed at businesses that are seeking to improve their green image, the company's marketing boss Stephen Norman disclosed. The vehicle is a battery-powered variant of the Fluence sedan that Renault manufactures in Turkey. The Fluence Z.E. has a range of around 185km, targeting businesses which drive less than 200km daily.

Norman further revealed that the total ownership costs will be even lower when compared to the combustion-engine variant of the Fluence when driven 12,000 to 15,000 km annually.

The key features of the Fluence Z.E. are simplicity, the cost of ownership and green credentials, says Autonews. Norman did not disclose specific sales targets. The sedan will be available in showrooms beginning in November.

2011 Renault Fluence Z.E. UK pricing announced

After revealing the UK price for its Kangoo Van Z.E. and Twizy in recent months, the electric vehicle campaign of Renault proceeds with the confirmation of the cost for Fluence Z.E., the company’s version of the third model in its zero-emission family. It is also the most affordable electric vehicle in the United Kingdom.

The vehicle, which is a five-seat, four-door unit, cruises silently onto UK streets in 2012, although the company has been accepting pre-reservations already for the vehicle through renault-ze.com.

The company is preparing for a record increase in interest for the vehicle now that the price has been confirmed to be only £17,850 (after the £5,000 UK Plug-In Car Grant has been deducted).

Renault appears intent on filling the markets with its electric vehicles as after it has revealed last week where it will be producing the zero-emission Kangoo Van, it now announces that its OYAK-Renault Bursa plant in Turkey will be making its electric version of Fluence. Production of the Fluence EV will start in the first half of 2011.

The Fluence electric vehicle, which is based on the Fluence Z.E. Concept, will be manufactured alongside the conventionally-powered versions. Having the electric, petrol and diesel versions produced at one plant will limit the entry price of the program.

It guarantees an industrial fast start, while ensuring top-level quality. Renault benefits from producing the future EV at Bursa, considering the plant'd reputation for making quality vehicles, its cost and lead times, as well as the perks of local sourcing.
