2015 Renault Kadjar is company’s first C-segment crossover

After few teasers, Renault has finally unveiled its first C-segment crossover, the Kadjar. Finished in a special Flame Red launch color, the Renault Kadjar promises to bring a breath of fresh air into its segment and it shares the DNA of the Captur concept car as well as some hints of the DeZir Concept. Moreover, the vehicle has a compact footprint (4.45 metres long x 1.84 metres wide x 1.60 metres height) and its unique design marks a break from the segment’s current trends.

According to Renault, the generous ground clearance (190 mm) as well as the large 690 mm wheels and rims of up to 19-inches also show their vehicle’s ability to conquer almost any off-road terrain.

The first visual impact with the vehicle shows the LED light guide in the form of the letter ‘C’ for the daytime running lights as well as the big Renault logo. Meanwhile, the rear end is inspired by the smaller Clio.

Renault Kadjar expected to become a top-seller in Europe

Renault is expecting its Kadjar compact SUV to become one of the best-selling models in the segment in Europe with foreseen sales of 118,000 units in 2016, which is its first full year of sales. That places the Kadjar just behind the Nissan Qashqai and the Volkswagen Tiguan compact SUVs, according to data from IHS Automotive.

Renault disclosed the SUV’s name but didn’t divulge technical details and photos, which would be presented on a Feb. 2 press event. The Kadjar will be unveiled at the Geneva auto show in March. According to Renault spokesman, the Kadjar will be underpinned with the same platform that underpins the best-selling Qashqai.

In 2014, the Nissan sold 203,549 units of second-generation Qashqai while VW sold 150,300 Tiguans in Europe. At third is the Kia Sportage, with sales of 96,333 units, according to data from JATO.
