In the second quarter of 2017, Manfred Fitzgerald, boss of Genesis, denied any plans to build a halo sports car. Instead, he said that what the brand will concentrate on is to provide what majority of its customers want.
But without any notice, it seems like the guys from the premium South Korean automaker have changed their minds sometime last year. In fact, two executives from Hyundai confirmed that a new Genesis nameplate is already in the works. It’s possible that the clamor from the fans of Genesis was so deafening that the brand had no choice but to give in.
It was Luc Donckerwolke, vice president of Hyundai, and Woong-chul Yang, vice chairman or research and development, who confirmed the existence of this project to WheelsMagazine. They hinted that the vehicle will likely have two seats, and will be powered by a hybrid system. As BMW has already revealed, the next generation of the BMW M5 (F90) is a four-wheel drive high-performance sedan with overwhelming power output and torque at its disposal. However, it was recently revealed that the next M5 was initially conceived as a rear-wheel drive sedan.
This was divulged by Dirk Hacker, vice-president of BMW’s M division, to Autocar. According to Hacker, the first prototype for the BMW M5 (F90) that was built over three years ago was a rear-wheel drive vehicle. He remarked that back then, having a rear-wheel driven M5 was the natural, “historic way to go.” The M5 has been – for the past five generations – a rear-wheel drive high-performance sports sedan.

The president of GM North America would want to include in Chevrolet's lineup a modestly priced, rear-wheel-drive sporty car that would target young drivers. Mark Reuss told Automotive News that he would want Chevrolet to have a “nice, light, rear-drive car that's inexpensive.” He said that such a vehicle would be a “huge win” for the carmaker, although it’s not on the “drawing board now.”

BMW M division’s boss Friedrich Nitschke confirmed to Autocar that it is planning to stay with rear drive even new Mercedes-Benz E63 and CLS63 AMG offer 4Matic all-wheel drive to left-hand-drive markets and Audi has newly introduced the quattro-equipped RS6 and RS7.
Last month, Nitschke restated his standpoint to Autocar last month at the Detroit motor show. He said that when it comes to steering feel and precision, the best solution is the rear-wheel drive. German carmaker Volkswagen is now making the latest evolution of the new Volkswagen Golf GTI -- the new Golf GTI TCR. First unveiled as a concept at the annual GTI meeting in Worthersee, Austria, the new Golf GTI TCR is touted to be the most hardcore, most powerful and the fastest Golf GTI ever. Interested customers in Germany can now order the new Golf GTI TCR at a starting price of EUR38,950 (around $44,356) including VAT.
The new Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR is basically the street going version of the same-named racing car that won the international TCR racing series two times. It is powered by a version of the carmaker’s 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that is tuned to deliver up to 286 hp (213 kW) of max output. Power is sent to the wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission – the only option -- with a limited-slip front differential.
With this amount of power, the new Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR is capable of sprinting from nil to 62 miles per hour (100 km/h) in just 5.6 seconds, on its way to a limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). October 2019 is an important month for Nissan. It marks the 50th anniversary of the legendary 240Z, which is the original Z model from the Japanese carmaker.
