There could be no stopping Saleen Automotive from returning to its business of building sports cars after nearly a decade since ending the production of the Saleen S7 supercar. This was confirmed by the company itself when it unveiled the new Saleen S1 sports coupe at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show.
Saleen developed the Saleen S1 in-house to have more control over its engineering. The result is a new sports car underpinned by an aluminum chassis and housed in a carbon fiber body. The employment of these light yet strong materials allowed the new Saleen S1 to weigh just 2,685 pounds (1,218 kilograms).
According to company founder Steve Saleen, they designed the bodywork with aerodynamic function as the primary consideration, and in the process gave the new S1 elegant curves and an upswept tail. The design of the new Saleen S1 is marked by 20-inch wheels shod in Continental ExtremeContact Sport tires, massive brakes as well as center-exit exhausts. Saleen says that partly thanks to these tires, the S1 could pull 1.2 g of cornering grip on a skidpad.Read the entire article New Saleen S1 sports coupe is launched at 2017 LA Auto Show
A number of supercar fans still remember the Saleen S7 that was unveiled in 2000. After all, the Saleen S7 was able to exert its dominance both on the road and the track, with multiple wins in the vaunted Le Mans Series and the American Le Mans Series. However, it has already been nearly a decade since the production of the S7 ended, and Saleen became contented with offering tuned versions of the Ford Mustang. Now, Saleen is back into the business of building its own sports car, as headlined by the new Saleen S1.
Before you raise your hopes up, the new Saleen S1 isn't nearly as powerful as the world-renowned Saleen S7. The most powerful version of the Saleen S7 has a twin turbo V8 engine as its core. This dynamic mill isn't your ordinary powerplant as it is tuned to deliver 750 hp (559 kW) of output at 6,300 rpm and 700 lb.-ft. (949 Nm) of peak torque available at 4,800 rpm. In this guise, the Saleen S7 could sprint from zero to 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds and achieve a top speed of 248 miles per hour (399 km/h).
On the other hand, the new Saleen S1 will be powered by a Ford-sourced 2.3-liter turbocharged engine that could deliver up to 450 hp (335 kW) of max output and 425 lb.-ft. (576 Nm) of peak torque. With this power at hand, the Saleen is expected to able to go as fast – although restricted – as 180 mph (290 km/h). Its zero-to-60mph sprint time is expected to be inferior to that of the S7. Saleen hasn’t disclosed the underpinnings, chassis or gearbox that will be employed on the S1, although there have been rumors that the new sports car is derived from the already discontinued Artega GT. There have also been indications that Saleen will follow up the sports car with an electric version, which would be made available after the conventional variant.Read the entire article Saleen to unveil its new 450 hp S1 sports coupe at 2017 LA Auto Show
Although it is widely known for its customized muscle cars, Saleen decided to look into the future and upgraded a Tesla Model S. Dubbed Saleen Foursixteen, the customized electric vehicle was unveiled this weekend at the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
As you can see from the photos, the Tesla Model S was heavily modified and comes with a new aerodynamic kit consisting of a new front fascia with large air intakes, new side sills as well as a new rear trunk spoiler and a redesigned rear bumper that includes a carbon fiber air diffuser.
Propelling the Saleen Foursixteen is the 3-phase, four pole AC induction motor and copper rotter that comes with an upgraded Saleen drivetrain including a new 11.39:1 final gear ratio for quicker acceleration. In addition, there is a Saleen specific Maxgriptm locking differential that maximizes grip.Read the entire article Saleen unveils the Foursixteen based on Tesla Model S
On April 12, 2014, things will never be the same for Saleen as the company is preparing to enter a new era. Apparently, the company known for tuning muscle cars or for its supercars, will present the renderings for the new Saleen Tesla Model S. It seems that the electric sedan attracts even companies such as Saleen.
If the renderings will be revealed within two weeks, the vehicle first completed Saleen Tesla Model S is expected to be available in early summer. "Some of the mystery will soon be over," stated Steve Saleen, CEO, Saleen Automotive, Inc. "For those who have wondered what we can do to a car like the Tesla, our renderings will answer many of the questions in the media."
"But until the actual car rolls out of our Corona Campus production facility this summer, the public will have to wait to see the full expression of talent and creativity that we intend to bring to the amazing Tesla Model S," added Saleen.Read the entire article Saleen to unveil first renderings with its customized Tesla Model S on April 12
Saleen Automotive is developing an electric car, but did not provide any technical details or renderings. Steve Saleen, owner of the venture, said he will unveil scale models of the vehicle in early 2014. The electric car is believed to carry a design that will entice those seeking high performance, as Saleen is known for creating high horsepower versions of sports cars like the Ford Mustang.
In a statement, Saleen remarked that while he cannot provide all the details of the electric vehicle project, he said that it is “unlike anything currently in the marketplace." As early as this month, he released a statement saying to "throw out your pre-conceived notions and expectations,” noting that the vehicle will be “revolutionary in its aesthetics and mechanics."
Due to the high prices of electric vehicles, their sales have been slow. A recent survey showed that few buyers are willing to pay over $25,000 for an electric vehicle. This could be the main reason while carmakers are cutting the prices of their electric offerings or offering incentives. For instance, Nissan cut $6,400 off the sticker price of its Leaf EV to $22,150, including delivery.Read the entire article Saleen Automotive is developing an electric car
The Saleen exhibit in the in the Concours Hall of the ongoing 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show will feature three 30th anniversary concept vehicles laden with a “snowball white and black” interior courtesy of Katzkin. Katzkin is using the LA Auto Show as a way to showcase its own high quality design, materials and execution to the vehicles built by Saleen, considered as one of the famous high performance niche coach builders in the United States.
According to Brooks Mayberry, chief executive of Katzkin, the ability to show Katzkin interior designs on Saleen concept vehicles adds to the company’s already exciting design story. Mayberry said that their primary differentiation from competitors is their ability to provide personalization that expresses individuality for both the consumer and the vehicle.
He remarked that teaming up with Saleen for the LA event allows them to reach out to an” enthusiast audience that may not have realized just how cost-efficient and easy it is to obtain a customized interior that meets their own personal taste.”Read the entire article Katzkin pairs with Saleen to showcase its interiors at LA Auto Show
Saleen Automotive introduced the Saleen Heritage Collection vehicles at the Laguna Seca Raceway. The limited edition series covers the entire front of the racing field from the most competitive time in SCCA Trans-Am racing history. The trilogy of vehicles that made their debut are a continuance of the coveted heritage vehicles that Saleen produced in the late 2000’s: The Saleen | Parnelli Jones Edition and Saleen | Dan Gurney Edition. Each Saleen Heritage vehicle is representative of the top 5 drivers in the Mission Bell race that took place at Riverside International Raceway on October 4, 1970.
This particular race was notable in that it was the final race of an extremely competitive season for the SCCA Trans- American Championship. The first vehicle to be unveiled is the George Follmer Edition Mustang, inspired by the #16 1969 Boss 302 Mustang that George Follmer campaigned the same year.
This Mustang is powered by a naturally aspirated 470+HP (estimated) 302 high revving 4-Valve engine, it has a track tuned suspension and a 6-speed manual transmission. The second vehicle unveiled by Saleen was the Mark Donohue Edition Camaro that commemorates the racing career of Mark Donohue. He was known to strategize every aspect that of his race vehicle from engineering setup to driving toward each victory. The Saleen Donohue Edition Camaro is inspired by the #6 1969 Camaro that sparked the flame of major competition for the racing series and claimed the season championship that same year.Read the entire article 2014 Saleen George Follmer Edition Mustang introduced at Laguna Seca
The first of a series of new performance Mustangs -- the 435S Mustang -- from Saleen Performance Vehicles has arrived despite a pending lawsuit raised by Steve Saleen seeking to bar the use of his name. While the legal battle is ongoing, Saleen Performance Vehicles, which is now owned by MJ Acquisitions, can release as many Saleen-branded models as it wants.
Incidentally, Steve Saleen's SMS performance workshop has recently released its own reworked 460 series Ford Mustangs.
Unveiled this week at an enthusiasts' event in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, was the new 435S. It is fitted with a Saleen Series VI supercharger and makes 435hp (324kW) and 425lb-ft (575Nm) of torque from its uprated 4.6L V8.Read the entire article 2010 Saleen 435S Mustang breaks cover
This is the first full look that's available of the new 2010-spec Saleen S281 Mustang courtesy of Brad Barnett. Previously, everyone got a sneak peek when pictures were posted on Saleen's Flickr page in early October. But viewing these recent pictures only made us like the vehicle more.
It's notable that Saleen's designers have succeeded at retaining much of the design language that made previous versions of the S281 so popular while updating the style sufficiently to properly flow with the lines of the 2010 Mustang.
Saleen Performance Vehicles revealed the 2010 Saleen S281 during the annual Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show held at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Though this is the second vehicle to be launched by Saleen after the 2010 435S last August, the S281 is expected to be the first in the company’s 2010 line of high-performance vehicles.Read the entire article 2010 Saleen S281 Mustang breaks cover
