A couple of days ago, official sketches of the 2019 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500’s engine emerged online. And now, The Truth About Cars just found out that the pony is capable of reaching the 200 miles per hour (320 kilometers per hour) mark.
Sources say that there had been leaked information about the speedometer verification procedure, and that the car’s speedometer will reach 214 miles per hour (344 kilometers per hour), which means that the GT500 performs a little better than its rivals now.
Apart from its new and impressive top speed now, there had also been leaked documents indicating that the car will gain a couple of driving modes to improve its performance. There is a “Drag Strip” setting as well as a Launch Control function.Read the entire article 2019 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 can go as fast as 200 mph
The introduction of the 2015 Mustang means that we will soon see a new model from Shelby, but until that happens Shelby American will offer 50 total Signature Edition Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snakes. The Signature Edition Super Snake package marks the end of production for the current generation Ford Shelby GT500 and according to the manufacturer the vehicles feature the most popular upgrades at a special price.
As we said, only 50 total coupe or convertible 2007-2014 model tear Signature Edition Super Snakes will be built and orders will be accepted through January 31, 2015. What’s more interesting is that, for the first time, the cars will be available in entire color palette offered by Ford on the Shelby GT500 and also for the first time they will be able to choose the stripe colors to be paired with the new forged Weld Shelby wheels.
As an option, Shelby American will offer the wide body package. Some of the key features of the Signature Edition cars include the forged Weld wheels with Signature Edition center caps, 3.6 Kenne Bell supercharger, a Shelby Performance cooling package featuring a new radiator, heat changer and aluminum cooling tanks, upgraded rear brakes, the commemorative Caroll Shelby signature airbag cover decal, ‘Super Snake’ Signature Edition vehicle badges, an unique CSM number on interior and engine plates, Signature Edition floor mats as well as on day track experience.Read the entire article Signature Edition Super Snake package announced, marks end of production for current Shelby GT500
At the booth of Shelby American, Inc. at the North American International Auto Show, the new 850hp 2013 Shelby GT500 Super Snake “Wide Body” and the new performance tuned Shelby Focus ST were presented. These two cars represent both extremes of Shelby American’s range of high performance vehicles.
Shelby American was able to boost the performance of the stock 662hp 2013 GT500 into a street-legal 850hp. But then, Shelby made sure that it’s still 50 state emissions legal. It has also been tuned on 91 octane pump gas. Shelby put in a new Wide Body option as well. Gary Davis, vice president of production at Shelby American, said that it offers the handling of a super car due to its 13 inch rear and 10 inch front wheels that are covered in serious rubber.
Aside from the aesthetic modifications, the optional wide body package also gives the Super Snake much more traction. Shelby gives customers several color choices: Satin Black, Gloss White, Silver, Blue and Red stripes. For the first time ever, Shelby is offering wheel options such as a rear-only or front and rear “wide body” packages.Read the entire article Shelby presents the GT500 Super Snake Wide Body
Shelby American is offering two new tuning packages for the 2013 Ford Shelby GT500. The coupe and convertible models could get the upgrades. However, the Super Snake packages will be given to only 500 cars. What Shelby American does is give the standard 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 some black or white stripes, either black or silver 20-inch Shelby wheels, a new fiberglass Shelby hood, and a smattering of red embroidered Shelby logos on the headrests and floor mats.
A two-tone leather interior is optional. Among the mechanical improvements are a short-shift kit, new suspension components, a louder Borla exhaust, and Wilwood brakes with six-piston front calipers and cross-drilled brake discs. The factory 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 is already powerful with an output of 662 hp from its supercharged 5.8-liter V-8 engine. Still, it got an upgrade.
Consumers can decide to add a new Whipple or Kenne Bell supercharger, together with improved radiators and cooling parts that raise the power to 850 hp. Shelby American said that this output is incredible but it wants to assure buyers that this vehicle can be legally driven on the streets and that it uses normal gasoline.Read the entire article 2013 Shelby GT500 Super Snake breaks cover
The Shelby GT500 will continue on as a model even with the arrival of the next generation Mustang in 2014 as a 2015 model. Last November, Ford unveiled the 2013 Shelby GT500. But with the announcement of the impending introduction of the next-generation Mustang, many wondered if the GT500 would stay.
The new GT500 is indisputably the most impressive Mustang that has ever rolled out from the plant with its 5.8-liter supercharged V8, which delivers 650hp and new aerodynamics enabling a top speed of 202 mph. There were doubts on whether the Shelby GT500 would still be built when the next generation Mustang is launched.
It’s believed that Ford may go back to using the SVT Cobra name or use a totally different name. But according to Shelby American president John Luft, the contract with Ford has bee extended through 2015 and beyond, proving the long-term vision for their alliance. Luft explained that the relationship between Ford and Shelby has been “extremely beneficial” to both firms.Read the entire article Shelby GT500 will live on even with the arrival of the next generation Mustang

For those who don’t know, the official launch of SVT (Special Vehicle Team) was made back in 1992 at the Chicago Auto Show with the 1993 SVT Mustang Cobra and SVT F-150 Lightning. The 1993 SVT Mustang Cobra offered a 235-horsepower 5.0-liter V8 engine, but now things are changes and the 2013 Shelby GT500 Convertible comes with a 5.8-liter supercharged V8 aluminum-block engine producing 650 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque.
Moreover, the 2013 Shelby GT500 Convertible comes with the optional Performance Package, which makes it faster around a track than the outgoing model.
According to Ford, the 2013 Shelby GT500 Convertible shaved nearly 3.5 seconds off its lap time at Sebring International Raceway compared to the 2011 and 2012 models. Apparently, the SVT-designed Bilstein electronic adjustable dampers available on the Performance Package and the all-new chassis tuning are the reasons.Read the entire article Chicago Auto Show: 2013 Shelby GT500 Convertible marks SVT’s 20th anniversary

Ford is not backing down in a performance battle against Chevrolet. Just one month after Chevrolet revealed the 2012 Camaro ZL1 that delivers more than 550hp, Ford is preparing to introduce a 2013 Shelby GT500 that generates 600+hp. According to Caranddriver sources, this Mustang has an output that can go as high as 620hp.
The performance boost stems from raising the GT500’s current powerplant from 5.4-liters to 5.8-liters for the 2013 model year. Ford has replaced the current Eaton unit with the same TVS unit that powers the ZL1.
Powering the 2011 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is an all-new aluminum-block 5.4-liter supercharged V-8 engine, which develops 550hp and 510 ft.-lb. of torque, giving an extra 10hp over the 2010 model. The new engine weighs 102 lbs (46 kg) lighter than its predecessor -- offering a better power-to-weight ratio, improved fuel economy, acceleration, handling and steering precision.Read the entire article 2013 Shelby GT500 Mustang to deliver over 600 hp

The latest 2010 Shelby GT500 receives an extra 40 horses and 30 ft-lb of torque above the retiring model and it will come with more efficient fuel consumption. Tests show that the new 2010 Shelby GT500 enhances 2 mpg in highway driving in contrast to the preceding version, with fuel consumption rated at 14 mpg city and 22 mpg highway.
The chief cause for these improvements is modifications to the top gears, which were made taller. Performance numbers of the 2010 Shelby GT500 were boosted by enhancements to the calibration of the supercharged and intercooled 5.4-liter DOHC V8 powerplant and refinements to the cold-air intake system. Featured in the engine calibration is a dual-knock sensor system instead of just one thereby enhancing engine efficiency further by more efficient use of fuel supplied.
Cold air is guaranteed to feed directly to the engine through the cold-air intake system, which in turn provides users the maximum potency possible. Engine speed hits the red line at 6250 revolutions per minute. The new model generates more torque at 3000rpm compared to the retiring model.Read the entire article 2010 Shelby GT500 receives an extra 40hp and 2 mpg in fuel economy

Ford has yet to release details surrounding the 2011 GT500 but the Internet is all abuzz about what appears to be a leaked order form for next year's Shelby uploaded by a user on the enthusiast forum ModularFords.
If this is authentic, we should expect the next iteration of Ford's baddest Mustang to feature electric power steering, standard HID headlamps, Ford's safety-minded MyKey, and an aluminum-block 5.4-liter supercharged V-8 as standard equipment.
Presently, the 2010 GT500 uses a similar engine, but with an iron block mated with aluminum heads. Power ratings for the revised engine are still unknown but it's likely that it will produce at least 540 hp, which is what the current supercharged 5.4-liter is able to produce.Read the entire article Leaked: 2011 Ford GT500 order guide
Ford's Special Vehicle Team (SVT) revealed today the new 2011 Ford Shelby GT500, the newest version of the legendary muscle car featuring an all-new aluminum-block engine, even better driving dynamics and handling as well as improved fuel economy and more horsepower than ever. This new engine has its roots in the iconic Ford GT because the new 5.4-liter V8 is in fact an evolution of the GT engine, with improved block structure through the use of a unique bulkhead chilled process and six-bolt billet main bearing caps. The 2011 Shelby GT500 will be the first modern Shelby without the gas guzzler tax, because it will deliver a fuel consumption of 23 mpg on the highway and 15 mpg in the city (up from 22 mpg highway and 14 mpg city for the 2010 model).Read the entire article Official: 2011 Shelby GT500 revealed with lighter aluminum engine
Channeling the air so it's utilized most efficiently was a thorough procedure that eventually will be rewarding to buyers. The development of the front fascia and the vehicle's "flush" hood assists in focusing the flow of air. The top part of the grill channels air into the radiator, with a rubber flap inside the engine section aiding to seal the system.
The lower grill aids in cooling the intercooler. SVT technicians also went as far to close particular parts of the front of the 2010 Shelby GT500's characteristic diamond-studded grill to assist in maintaining the right cooling and sleek balance. The 2010 Shelby is the most-full bodied design and most-unique version of the latest 2010 Mustang range. "The design we chose was a 'flush' hood where the fascia defines the entire front of the vehicle," said Hameedi. "That's very hard to execute from an engineering standpoint, but it really sets the Shelby off as very, very different from the base Mustang."
"This epitomizes the ultimate Mustang," Exterior Design manager of the Mustang and Shelby GT500, George Saridakis added. "It's all about power and expressing power." Saridakis said his team took a prompt from the Shelby AC Cobra 427 with regards to the front grills, which are open and look ready to swallow the road.Read the entire article 2010 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 revealed
