Skoda Kodiaq Coupe, 2 new SUVs are confirmed to roll out in China

In a leaked image following a presentation held in China, we learned that Czech automobile manufacturer Skoda will soon unveil 2 more new SUVs in China, resulting in a four-model lineup. Of the 4 rumored vehicles, one has been revealed to the public - the seven seat Kodiaq.

The Kodiaq model will possibly receive the coupe treatment, a roofline raked to the rear end will be expected. Even though it will likely affect the Kodiaq's trunk capacity, it shouldn't be a big deal since the space inside will compensate as the SUV's interior has a large space.

Also seen on the powerpoint presentation are 2 vehicle outlines labelled "Model Q" and "Model K". There's much speculation that Model Q is foreseen to be a 2nd-generation Yeti and will be possibly built bigger to become a real to life crossover. The all new Yeti is planned to be unveiled on the latter part of the year and will likely be premiered at Frankfurt Motor Show around September and will be put on sale before this year concludes.

Skoda has announced another version of its new Skoda Kodiaq SUV. The regular variant of the Kodiaq announced in September 2016 exudes elegant practicality, while the recently introduced Kodiaq Scout version reeks of pure off-road capability and ruggedness. Now, the Czech carmaker is introducing the third version of the SUV with sporty looks – the new Skoda Kodiaq Sportline.

Yes, the new Skoda Kodiaq Sportline just looks sporty. It doesn’t boast of any improvement in power as it still features the same engine line up as the regular Kodiaq SUV. Well, it does have a sense of sportiness, thanks to the fact that its engine sends power to all four wheels; unlike the front-wheel drive regular Skoda Kodiaq.

In addition, the sporty looks of the Skoda Kodiaq Sportline continues inside the cabin, as this SUV model builds on the Ambition trim level. However, the Skoda Kodiaq Sportline features sports seats with Alcantara covers and silver-colored stitching as well as a leather-covered multifunction steering wheel and aluminum pedals.

When Skoda commenced its SUV campaign with the announcement of the new Skoda Kodiaq, not a few have wished that this vehicle would be available in an off-road version. Now, it seems the Czech carmaker has answered our prayers and responded by announcing the new Skoda Kodiaq Scout.

Even though Skoda flaunted the new Skoda Kodiaq as an SUV that could drive off the road with ease, there are reservations with the vehicle’s off-road capability simply because it is a front-wheel drive unit. While the new Skoda Kodiaq tries to impress SUV consumers with its distinctive design, practical intelligence and superior interior space, it seemingly lacks some ruggedness typically associated with off-road vehicles.

So, here comes the new Skoda Kodiaq Scout, which will be officially unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. As the recipient of the Scout designation, this version of the Skoda Kodiaq brings the SUV ability to a whole new level. It is now more capable of handling off-road drives and its ruggedness as well as practicality is also viable for an all-terrain drive. While the Skoda Kodiaq appears practically elegant and premium, the Skoda Kodiaq Scout has some ruggedness pounded into it – it looks more solid and ready to take both the road and beyond. Examples of this ruggedness include the silver-colored underbody protection both at the front and rear.

Skoda is marking the commencement of its extensive SUV campaign with the unveiling of the new Skoda Kodiaq. Its length of 4,697 mm allows this large SUV to accommodate seven people and boast of having the largest boot in its class. Riding on a wheelbase that measures 2,791 mm, the new Skoda Kodiaq features dimensions of 1,882 mm in width and 1,676 mm in height, including roof rails. It is underpinned by Volkswagen Group's modular transverse matrix (MQB) that makes use strict of lightweight construction.

Its body is made from hot-stamped metal sheets. Sans the driver, a front-wheel drive Skoda Kodiaq powered by the entry-level TSI engine features a weight of just 1,452 kg, while an all-wheel drive unit running on the 1.4 TSI engine weighs 1,540 kg.

Volkswagen Group is nearing a decision on whether to build new SUVs for Skoda and Seat at a site in the Czech Republic or Spain, a Skoda union leader has disclosed. Czech daily Mlada Fronta Dnes has reported that the group had selected its Skoda's local plant over Seat's Spanish site for the new SUV, adding that an announcement should expected Friday.

According to Skoda chief Winfried Vahland, the Czech carmaker is planning to launch a large SUV in 2016. As expected, the new model sill use Volkswagen Group’s well-known MQB platform. What’s more interesting is that the new SUV from Skoda will actually be a version of the Volkswagen CrossBlue SUV that will be launched in 2015.

Autocar says that the Skoda SUV has no name for the moment, but what we know is that it will be a class up from the Volkswagen Tiguan, with a length of around 4.6 meters. Skoda will offer five-seat and seven-seat configuration, as well as front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

Volkswagen Group may build a Seat sports utility vehicle at Skoda's Kvasiny site in Czech Republic, sources told Automotive News. The SUV would be built alongside the next-generation Skoda Yeti compact SUV at the site, where production costs are significantly lower than at Seat’s Martorell site in Spain. Seat currently lacks an SUV or a crossover model, which are selling very well in Europe.

VW Group has yet to green-light the SUV for Seat as it is still determining whether the struggling Spanish subsidiary can afford to add the model. Seat president Juergen Stackmann remarked that the SUV would be an important strategic building block in its product offensive in Europe.

Stackmann told Automobilwoche that Seat is working on an SUV that would "fit the brand and develop another European sub-segment" for the carmaker.

More than a month ago since introducing the BMW X7 to the global public, the German premium carmaker has unveiled its flagship SUV to the North American audience at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show. This is quite ironic since the BMW X7 is built at the carmaker’s Spartanburg manufacturing site in South Carolina.

There is quite no need to tell all the details about the new BMW X7. Nonetheless, the X7 that will soon arrive in the United States will be available in two guises, powered only by petrol engines. As what BMW has revealed, the X7 SUV will be offered either as the X7 xDrive40i or the X7 xDrive50i. The BMW X7 xDrive40i has a core in the persona of a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six engine. This mill is tuned to deliver 335 hp (250 kW) of max output as well as 330 lb.-ft. (447 Nm). This power is enough for the xDrive40i to accelerate from zero to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 5.8 seconds.

On the other hand, BMW is offering a more powerful version of the X7 SUV, which would be an ideal fit for customers who wanted to squeeze more performance from the flagship. The BMW X7 xDrive50i will be powered by a newly developed twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine that can deliver 456 hp (340 kW) of max motive power as well as 479 lb.-ft. (649 Nm) of peak torque. This engine can send the X7 xDrive50i sprinting from nil to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 5.2 seconds, or around 0.6 seconds quicker than the X7 xDrive40i.

The 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show is playing host to a number of debuts, especially SUVs. Hyundai won't let itself be left out as the South Korean carmaker unveiled its own SUV flagship at the LA event – the all-new 2020 Hyundai Palisade mid-size SUV. Set to be built at the carmaker’s manufacturing plant in Ulsan, South Korea, the 2020 Hyundai Palisade is scheduled to arrive dealerships across the United States in the summer of 2019.

Hyundai’s new Palisade could be the brand’s answer to the growing demand for larger SUVs. It does offer a seven-seat SUV in the guise of the Hyundai Santa Fe XL. However, the Hyundai Santa Fe XL is basically just a slightly larger version of the Santa Fe five-seat SUV. Some customers might find other similarly sized SUVs from other carmakers as more spacious.

To answer the call, Hyundai create the new Palisade, which it says offers enough room to accommodate eight occupants and their cargo. Furthermore, the Palisade promises to deliver a host of technologies and offer great levels of safety.

Can a Dacia Duster be compared with a Ford Mustang? It would be difficult to do so as these vehicles compete in different categories and segments, have different price points and different target markets. Moreover, in terms of power and performance, the Duster couldn’t be compared to a Mustang.

Nonetheless, there is one person who believes that Dacia’s budget SUV is similar to the Ford’s legendary pony car. This person is the chief of design for Group Renault -- Laurens van den Acker. Dacia, the Romanian subsidiary of Group Renault, has been building the Duster since 2009, while Ford has been producing the Mustang since 1965. Despite the Duster being just a decade old, van den Acker told Autocar that the SUV is similar to the Mustang in a sense that it is already an iconic model with an identity stronger than the brand.

Group Renault’s design chief believes that the identity of the Duster as a model is already larger than Dacia as a brand. This is similar to the iconic pony car – the Mustang as a model has a stronger identity than Ford as a brand. The Duster is iconic to Dacia just as the Mustang is iconic for Ford.

Plug-in hybrid vehicles are increasingly the mobility of choice for many people. For short drives around the city or urban areas, plug-in hybrid can be switched to all-electric mode for a zero-emission driving experience. However, current plug-in hybrids can only offer up to 50 km (31 miles) of all-electric range.

Mercedes-Benz is hoping to break the status quo by not just surpassing the 50-km barrier, but also offering up to 100 km (62 miles) in pure electric range. Quite a number of plug-in hybrids still offer 30 km of electric range, while there is an increasing number of models that are engineered to reach 50 km.

As divulged by Ola Kallenius, head of Daimler group research and Mercedes-Benz cars development, the upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLE PHEV will be the first plug-in hybrid to offer a 100-km range, as per WLTP cycle.
