Škoda AUTO will be introducing the new compact saloon, the Škoda Rapid, and the ŠKODA Citigo subcompact, at the Istanbul International Auto Show on Nov. 1 – 11, 2012. This will be the first time that these models will be presented in Turkey. The launch of the two new models in Turkey will be launched in the market together with the presentation at the show.
ŠKODA has already performed strongly in Turkey as its sales increased by 30.4% year on year from January through September even as the overall market declined by 8.7% in the same period. ŠKODA’s market share had increased by 1.9% as of the end of September while it was at 1.3% a year ago. The ŠKODA Octavia is the most popular ŠKODA model in Turkey.
Škoda CEO Winfried Vahland said that in the upcoming years, Škoda aims to continue to grow globally. Skoda Auto’s concept cars will take part in the largest tuning event that showcases vehicles of parent company Volkswagen Group. Skoda is prepping two concept cars for the event, the Skoda Citigo Rally and Skoda Citigo DJ Car. The May event will take in Lake Wörthersee, located in the Austrian village of Reifnitz, a traditional meeting place for tuning fans.
As the tuning event is considered one of the largest and most important of its kind, seven teams riding in Skoda vehicles will depart tomorrow from Prague and head to Reifnitz, Austria and unveil the company’s newest concept car at an exhibition area of more than 600 square meters. Tuning fans are sure to enjoy the 31st holding of the event, to be highlighted by a concert in the evening.
Skoda will bring in a special surprise for tuning fans during the concert. Skoda has released pricing details of its newest Citigo, one of the most anticipated new-vehicle launches in the United Kingdom. ŠKODA will introduce the latest Citigo subcompact to the public as a five-door variant for the first time this year at the Geneva Motor Show. Representatives from the media will have a preview of the new ŠKODA in February 2012. This includes engaging in test drives. The five-door variant will be launched in European markets one after another together with the three-door variant beginning in the middle of May this year.

As its name says it, the new Skoda Citigo is company’s new city car and promises to hit the domestic market before the end of this year, while the UK and the rest of European countries will receive it by at the beginning of summer 2012.

As part of Skoda’s strategy to achieve its goal of doubling annual sales to 1.5 million units by 2018, it is launching the ‘City Car’, its version of the Volkswagen Up city car, later this year. Skoda will also offer a new small saloon that will be slotted in between the Fabia and Octavia and is targeted at developing markets.
Skoda’s chairman Winfried Krause confirmed these new models during its annual press conference. He said that the City Car was created to meet the strong demand for small cars with low fuel consumption and affordable running costs.
