After yesterday’s leaked photos, Mazda officially introduced today the 2015 Mazda2 also known as Demio in Japan. Set to make its world debut at the 2014 Paris Motor Show in October, the all-new Mazda2/Demio features the full range of ultra-efficient Skyactiv Technology.
According to Mazda, Europe will get a new small displacement clean diesel engine, the Skyactiv-D 1.5 but also different power versions of the Skyactiv-G 1.5 petrol engine. The Skyactiv-D diesel engine delivers 105 hp (77 kW) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm.

The all-new Mazda2 will feature the SKYACTIV-D 1.5, Mazda’s new 1.5-liter clean diesel engine, when the next-generation model is initially launched in Japan. The SKYACTIV-D 1.5 was unveiled at the Geneva International Motor Show in March alongside the Mazda Hazumi concept, which became the basis for the Mazda2.
The new engine – which shares with its the SKYACTIV-D 2.2 clean diesel fitted in the Mazda CX-5, Mazda6 and Mazda3 – was developed with an aim of achieving ideal combustion even in a very low compression ratio.

Mercedes-Benz is set to unveil the new X350d 4Matic X-Class at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. To jump onto the next step of going greener, Porsche announced that they will be getting rid of the last few vehicles that have diesel-fueled engines in their lineup, so that they could focus on electrifying their vehicles. After going through a number of tests in Germany, the BMW 320d was deemed to be fully compliant will all legal requirements by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA). The extensive test-bench and road tests were a result of accusations back in December 2017 from environmental lobby group Deutsche Umwelthilfe (Environmental Action Germany).

In the United States, diesel engines were never really that big. Sales of cars with diesel engines were even more dismal. Bloomberg recently published a report regarding the banning of vehicles with internal combustion engines in California. Air Resources chairman of the board Mary Nichols said state officials have already stated their interest in putting an end to the sales of pollution-causing automobiles in a bid for cleaner air.
California is considered amongst the most environmentally-aware states, accounting for over 2 million of car sales, in the entire US in the previous year.
