It’s likely that when the next-generation Mazda MX-5 starts selling in 2014, it will be equipped with a turbocharged version of the 1.3-litre, four cylinder SkyActiv petrol engine. The next Mazda MX-5 will come with the smaller direct-injection turbo unit rather than the current model’s normally aspirated 1.8 and 2.0-litre engines.
It will get variable cam phasing, lighter, low-friction reciprocating parts, and maybe even a new exhaust manifold design that offers an exhaust gas evacuation that’s more effective. Its transmission will be lighter and its friction will be reduced as Mazda attempts to give the manual shift action the same level of mechanical precision and short throw as the original model.
It’s also likely to have a very efficient paddle-shift torque-converter auto, with a lock-up clutch. The next MX-5 will use a new rear-wheel drive SkyActiv platform that will be dubbed the S-platform. Mazda is hoping for the two-seater to revert to its original agile sports car concept and to accomplish that, it is relying on lightweight engineering.Read the entire article Next-generation Mazda MX-5 to receive a turbocharged 1.3-litre SkyActiv engine
We have all heard of Mazda’s new Skyactiv-X engine technology, even if it has not gone on sale yet. And despite that, the Japanese automaker has already begun a new major internal combustion project, which they are calling the Skyactiv 3. What they plan for this is to boost the powerplant’s thermal efficient to around 56 percent, and this will deliver a well to wheel emissions on par with an EV, says Automotive News.
This claim by Mazda was made based on the carbon dioxide emissions from producing electricity for charging an electric vehicle versus pumping oil out of the ground to turn this into gasoline.
However, the main issue with this calculation is that there are a number of ways to produce electricity, and each way produces a different amount of carbon dioxide. For instance, it will definitely be cleaner to get power from renewable resources rather than getting power from a region with a coal-fired powerplant.Read the entire article Mazda asserts Skyactiv 3 or Skyactiv-X will be cleaner or at least at par with an EV
The 2018 Consumer Electric Show is full of exciting new technology for everyone, including the automotive industry. One of the most anticipated is the unveiling of the Linux-based MBUX that promised to bring a “revolution in the cockpit.”
Expect to see this infotainment system in upcoming compact models starting off with the next-generation Mercedes-Benz A-Class hatchback. A camouflaged near-production prototype of the five-door model is currently in Las Vegas at the CES. This won’t be offered in the United States but then, the sedan version will make it to the country soon enough.
We will be giving you all the details you will need to know about the infotainment system, starting off with the seven-inch instrument cluster with a touchscreen of the same size that can be found on the A-Class. For the higher trim, the touchscreen gets an upgrade to a 10.25-inch version. Meanwhile, the top trim gets a dual 10.25 inch setup.Read the entire article Mercedes-Benz’ new MBUX infotainment system will debut in next-gen A-Class
The next generation of the Jeep Wrangler (JL) is being touted by the brand as having more power, more features and more off-road ability than the previous JK generation. To back up its claims, Jeep laid down the specs and numbers for the 2018 Jeep Wrangler as the off-road specialist is unveiled at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show.
Jeep will be commencing sales of the new 2018 Wrangler in the first quarter of next year. The very capable SUV will be available either as a two-door or four-door model. Customers have three trims to choose from: Sport, Sahara and the most off-road focused Rubicon. There are three top designs offered for new Wrangler: hardtop with a longer “gutter” and lighter removable “Freedom Top” panels; updated convertible top; and the new powered soft top that works like a canvas sunroof.
In terms of power source, three engines are available. One of these is a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine that offers up to 285 hp (209 kW) of output at 6,400 rpm and up to 260 lb.-ft. (353 Nm) of torque at 4,800 rpm. This engine is standard on all models of the 2018 Wrangler. Meanwhile, optional on all models of the new generation Wrangler is the 2.0-liter Turbo I-4 engine that could deliver 270 hp (200 kW) of max output at 5,250 rpm and 295 lb.-ft. (400 Nm) of peak torque at 3,000 rpm. Only available to four-door models of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler is the 3.0-liter Ecodiesel V-6 that generates 260 hp of max output and 442 lb-ft of peak torque as mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission (850RE).Read the entire article Jeep reveals specs for the new JL-generation 2018 Wrangler
Jeep isn't finished teasing the all-new next-generation Jeep Wrangler. In the build-up to the eventual official unveiling of the new 2018 Wrangler at the upcoming 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show, Jeep has released more images of the next-generation sports utility vehicle.
While the first three images released for the new 2018 Jeep Wrangler showed the exterior appearance of the SUV, the latest set presents its interior. It basically shows what the cabin of the next-gen Jeep Wrangler looks like. For instance, the images reveal a steering wheel with extra chrome styling elements. Likewise, the central infotainment screen is now more prominent, with its knobs and dials all restyled. Furthermore, the instrument cluster of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler now features a small screen.
According to Jeep, the interior of the new Wrangler combines authentic styling and precision craftsmanship while employing high-quality materials. This combination has allowed the new Jeep Wrangler to offer enhanced levels of versatility and comfort for both its drivers and passengers.Read the entire article Here are the first interior images of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler
Jeep did not warn us that they will be releasing the 2018 Wrangler soon, but surprisingly, it made an unexpected online debut on November 1st at the SEMA show in Vegas. This off-roader has been highly anticipated, and finally, here it is. It features a light evolution, as well as some added modern equipment. Also, thanks to details that have been leaked on the Jeep website, we already know how much it will cost.
If you go and check out the images, you can get the four door 2018 Wrangler Unlimited Sport JLU in the United States for $30,445, plus and extra $995 for delivery. This model will still be Jeep’s entry-level four-door, and you guys may notice a little price increase ($2,550) over the 2017 model. On the other hand, the 2018 Sport JKU will still have an asking price of $27,895 just like the older model.
Another leaked list shows the whole lineup of Jeep models including the three trim levels and options that will be available. The document states that the base Sport model will not come with standard air conditioning. However, it will come standard with features like three separate tow hooks, electronic stability control, tinted glass, a fuel tank skid plate, hill start assist, and a five-inch Uconnect Infotainment system. Of course, expect the higher models like the Rubicon and the Sahara to gain more features such as power heated mirrors, and remote keyless entry.Read the entire article 2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited gets a slight price hike
Barely a month before Jeep officially unveils the all-new next-generation Jeep Wrangler at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show, the carmaker released three official images of the capable SUV. These images are just teasers, but show the new Jeep Wrangler in its full glory before the LA Auto Show.
According to Jeep, the 2018 Wrangler is the most capable SUV so far, with an ability to deliver the superior 4x4 capability that Jeep vehicles are known. After all, the new Wrangler is expected to feature the latest, most advanced version of Jeep's vaunted four-wheel-drive system, allowing the SUV to remain the king of the off-road world.
The next generation of the Jeep Wrangler will also be available with advanced fuel-efficient powertrains, and will be laden with more safety features and advanced technology. There were no details about these powertrains, but there have been rumours the new Wrangler could be powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine or a turbodiesel mill. An updated version of the 3.6-liter V6 engine employed in the current Wrangler is rumored to be included in the powertrain options, as paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Electrified hybrid variants of the new Wrangler are also expected to be offered.Read the entire article Jeep releases images of next-generation Wrangler before official reveal at LA Auto Show
By studying today’s trend, one would notice that crossovers and small pickup trucks are what most people are looking for, and to step up its game, Mazda decided that they would develop a new version of their longstanding BT-50 pickup. According to the automaker, the next generation pickup will still share the same platform as that of the Isuzu D-Max, just like its outgoing model. But even though it has the same mechanics as the Isuzu, the design will entirely be unique to Mazda.
In an interview between WheelsMag and Ikuo Maeda, Managing Executive Officer and Head of Design, the latter confirmed that a new BT-50 is being developed. He also said that they will face a challenge by converting the Mazda’s current design direction to a much smaller pickup truck.
Speaking of the design, Mazda said that their goal for the next generation pickup is to create a beautiful form that has tougher elements to give it some masculinity as well - after saying that it will be a tough job. Also, he mentioned that the pickup will get inspiration from the Vision Coupe and the Kai concept, both of which appeared at the recent Tokyo Motor Show a week ago.Read the entire article Mazda’s next-generation BT-50 pickup may be smaller but it will be 'manly'
While the official premiere of 2018 Jeep Wrangler (JL/JLU) is already set this December, fans everywhere rejoiced at having had something like this appear on the web. Yes, everything we need to learn about the 2018 Jeep Wrangler is now accessible thanks to the leaked owner’s manual and user guide posted at the JL Wrangler Forums website. You can find everything from technical specs, operation, down to the interior. The PDF files practically contain all the information about the new Wrangler. It’s pretty overwhelming so we kind of don’t know where to start but allow us to share the juiciest parts anyway.
For starters, why don’t we talk about the engine. The leaked owner’s manual reveals that the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL will have two powertrain options---one is a 3.6-liter V6 hybrid while the other is a 2.0-liter turbo hybrid gas /electric powertrain. The recommended fuel is 91 octane for the 2.0L (Hurricane) turbo and 87 octane for the 3.6 L V6 (Pentastar) which comes with a manual transmission.
It also seems that the next generation Wrangler has been equipped with all the latest features for safety, luxury and convenience that normally come with a premium model. Likewise, the new Wrangler is offered with the same off-road capability that has been known to brand, with nearly the same payload and towing capacity as the previous Jeeps. Meaning, the JLU can tow up to 3,500 pounds (1,587 kg) maximum, while the two-door Jeep has a maximum towing of 2,000lbs (907kg).Read the entire article Leaked: See what’s inside 2018 Jeep Wrangler owner’s manual
According to Japanese website Car Sensor, Mazda recently claimed that they might borrow a platform from Toyota, which they will use for the next generation Mazda6, so this can be given a rear-wheel drive option. But to make things even better, the chassis might underpin the production version of the RX-Vision concept as well.
As part of the move up market, the Japanese automaker will give the Mazda6 the rear wheel drive they are planning. But they will also change the design so it features a long nose and shorter front overhang, giving the sedan a more upscale look. As for the engine, the fourth generation Mazda6 will probably share the company’s Skyactiv X spark controlled compression engine, including the mild-hybrid system believed to be of the 48-volt flavour.
What’s very important for Mazda’s plan is to make sure that they continue to have a good relationship with Toyota. Currently, both automakers have entered a collaboration and they are developing a factory in the United States. They have also been sharing some commercial vehicles in Japan. Furthermore, both companies admit that sharing future platforms would be possible. The future Mazda6’s rear drive chassis will likely be the same as the future generation Lexus IS and GS, says Car Sensor.Read the entire article Next generation Mazda6 may be getting an RWD platform
What happens when an auto company finds that a certain offering is not selling enough to make a good business case? Continuing to build and sell such vehicle would only be counterproductive, thus, stopping its production could be a good decision. That might the case for the Audi A3 three-door hatchback, which according to a report by Autocar, would be dropped in the coming years.
The fourth generation of the Audi A3 family is due to arrive sometime in 2019, ushering a new era for the German premium carmaker’s small family car. However, it seems that Audi is not bent on giving the A3 three-door hatchback another crack for glory, AutoCar reports, citing sources privy with what goes on inside the luxury carmaker.
As per the British auto publication, Audi officials have indicated that the dropping of the A3 three-door hatchback is part of the carmaker’s model consolidation program. It added that the program was prompted as part of the cost-cutting measures needed to ensure that there are enough funds for fixing the Volkswagen Group’s Dieselgate scandal. Simply put, its continued decline in terms of sales means that there is no more business-related reasons for the auto company to allow the A3 three-door hatchback to live on through the next generation.Read the entire article Audi to drop A3 three-door hatchback from its next-generation lineup
BMW has yet to officially take the wraps off the next generation of the BMW M5 high performance sporty sedan, but it has already dropped a number of juicy details that would surely make interested customers, fans and enthusiasts salivate.
First and foremost, the sixth generation of the BMW M5 will be the first BMW unit to feature the M xDrive system, a groundbreaking all-wheel drive technology that allows four-wheel drive vehicles to be as sporty as their rear-wheel drive counterparts.
Specifically, the new BMW M5 is an all-wheel drive sporty sedan as a default, but its drivetrain features a rear-biased setup. This means that the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine of the next generation BMW M5 (F90) sends power – through an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission – to the rear wheels most of the time. But when the system detects that the rear wheels transmit less or no power to the road and there is a need for more traction, the M xDrive would make it possible to send power to the front wheels as well. This transforms the new BMW M5 into a true all-wheel drive sports sedan. Since this capability is adaptive and makes use of predictive technology, the sixth generation of the BMW M5 is able to employ different drive configurations for various driving conditions.Read the entire article New M xDrive system will debut on upcoming 2018 BMW M5 (F90)
Mercedes-Benz really does love to tease, and now, we know why. It is because the top honcho of parent Daimler AG, chairman Dieter Zetsche, loves to do so. In fact, Zetsche was recently featured on a post at Daimler’s LinkedIn business network account, taking a selfie with a camouflaged version of the 2018 Mercedes-Benz A-Class. Yes, the 2018 Mercedes A-Class is finally coming and it is now being test-driven – as well as teased -- by Zetsche himself.
Teasing a new product isn’t actually the main part of Zetche’s job at Daimler. However, he can do as he pleases. Nonetheless, as Daimler’s chairman noted, it is part of his job to test drive new products like the next generation of the A Class. It is his job to make sure that a new model is good enough to pass the careful eyes of the company’s management team, and is ready for series production.
Confirming that the car that he was taking a picture with is the 2018 A-Class in a camouflaged form, Zetsche said in a LinkedIn post that Mercedes will be taking the wraps off the camouflaged A-Class in 2018. He called the new A-Class as special since it is a symbol of the rejuvenation of the Mercedes brand, which started when it introduced the current generation in 2012. He noted that since 2012, Mercedes has sold more than two million units of the A-Class.Read the entire article Daimler chairman takes selfie with camouflaged Mercedes-Benz A-Class
Back in 2013 was when the first hot hatch was released, that was the original A45 by Mercedes-AMG, carrying a hand-built 2.0 liter M133 turbo mill. It was then then most powerful series production four-cylinder in the world, producing 360 horsepower. And ever since then, a power war had begun.
Just a year later, Audi released its RS3 with its 2.5 liter five-cylinder turbo, yielding 367 horsepower, taking the A45’s spotlight. But soon enough, Mercedes-Benz took its crown back with its upgraded 2015 A45, with 381 horses.
Audi Sport and AMG has been competing with one another for the past years, trying to create the craziest hot hatch. Currently, it is the Audi RS3 Sedan with 400 horsepower that reigns.Read the entire article Mercedes-AMG confirms that the next A45 will have over 400 hp
Two black and white images were leaked to the public eye, whether it’s intentional or not. Coming from a site called JL Wrangler, the pictures are rumoured to be of the next-generation Jeep Wrangler JLU that seem to closely resemble the spy shots and the leaked poster from a dealer meeting last year. Previously the leaked ones were the hood and the grille, now it’s the time for your eyes to feast on the next of kin 2018 JLU. The question lies: Is it worth the wait?
Apart from the removable roof and doors of the model, it is also noticed that the JLU also has a rather larger front bump design compared to the current vehicle, turn signals on the mirrors which are attached to the higher on the doors within new window moldings, headlights winding into the outer grille slats (same with the previously leaked grille), a much longer vented hood, fender vents on the anterior quarter panels, solid frame with fixed roll cage in roughly the same location as the current sport bar, and a windshield that is situated nearer to the hood.
The vehicle's contour is somewhat likened to a pronounced belt line hereby making the door hands positioned slightly below where they are originally located. Moreover, the windows are seen to have rounder corners, and at the rear, we can’t help but admire its wrap around taillights. Worth mentioning also is that the anterior fenders seem to have some distinct LED light strips, which Car& Driver leaked many months ago and which emphasize the 2018 Jeep Wrangler's new light signatures at the front, and also at the back. The new JLU is also rumoured to be fitted with LED headlights and it also comes with the fender strips.Read the entire article Leaked images give us first look of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JLU Rubicon
BMW Blog recently announced on its site that the new X3 will hopefully be unveiled this year in June, and the next-gen automobiles will be rolling out to the public shortly afterwards. The high-performing 2018 BMW X3 (G01) M40i variant will also be available at U.S. dealerships around October this year.
Cruising on the ever dynamic CLAR (Cluster Architecture) platform, the third-gen of the highly popular X3 Sports Activity Vehicle, X3 codenamed "G01" is made bigger, lighter and more solid compared to the recent model. The interior and trunk space are also upgraded with increased capacity and area and 220 lbs (100 kilograms) lesser curb density compared to the current X3. A redesigned seating system is also offered to assure higher variability paired with increased comfort. Although the interior and exterior design will involve a metamorphic approach, under the hood is where the magic happens.
A wide array of diesel and gasoline choices will be made accessible but it depends on the market, not to mention the M40i and M40d options. The gas-fueled automobile will be sold in the United States around the latter part of the year, particularly around October. But so far, BMW hasn’t released pricing details. The BMW X3 M40i will be powered with a tweaked version of BMW's 3.0 liter turbocharged variant.Read the entire article 2018 BMW X3 (G01) M40i will arrive on US shores in October
The recent Porsche 911 is definitely considered one of the most elite sports car to grace the roads worldwide. The task of producing its successor is challenging enough for the German automobile manufacturer but it now has to put up with rendered images of the next-generation Porsche 911 due to be unveiled in 2019, likely coded as the "922".
Late last month, 2019 Porsche 911 prototypes were seen braving the cold and snow for a run, sporting a variation of the current car frame's 911 series. From the spy photos seen online, the upcoming replacement of the 911 looks to lean towards the further evolution in terms of its body style.
The front part of the super car is diving forward and is more angular, and its headlights and hood closely resemble the upcoming Mission E fully electric vehicle Porsche unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt motor show. The Porsche Mission E, also known as the all electric 4 door sports car, has been given the go signal for production and will be the first official fully electric hybrid Porsche. It’s also unlikely to be the last.Read the entire article Rendered speculation: 2019 Porsche 911
McLaren is said to be designing the next generation of Sports Series, which could include a V6 hybrid among its powertrain options. It was earlier reported that the British automaker has a 6-year plan to develop hybrid electric powertrains for its supercars. McLaren however did not elaborate much on the details about its “Track 22” project.
In a recent interview with Car & Driver, McLaren’s CEO Mike Flewitt said that it’s all about the character. For them, it doesn’t matter if it is going to be a V6, a V8, a V10 or a V12 as long as its performance is good. Also, as much as most people love the “manual-shifting V12”, he thinks it’s rather outdated by twenty years. This is why they are not so attached to the “cylinder count” from the very beginning. Instead, the CEO pointed out the fact that they are more into “performance and excitement”.
Having just come out with V8 engines a couple of years back, the McLaren 570 S and 540C are still using the same updated engine versions of the V8. Though not yet confirmed, the current V8 could be replaced especially after Flewitt commented that they are working on a new V6 hybrid powertrain.Read the entire article Next generation McLaren Sports Series could get a V6 hybrid drivetrain
During the Audi Summit in Barcelona, Spain this coming July, the all new Audi A8 (D5) luxury saloon will make a publicity stunt. And according to reports, it will make its second appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show, in autumn 2017.
Looking more stylish than ever, the 4th generation Audi A8 will have a sharper, more chiseled look, inspired by the Audi Prologue Concept series, which everybody loved because of its elegance. If we are lucky enough, the A8 may even share qualities of the Prologue like the concave windscreen and a simple, minimalist interior, with its technology hidden behind screens. The A8 will be having a slightly larger footprint as well.
The A8 will be having plenty of automatic features like the Traffic Jam Assist (an updated version) - which basically lets the car just glide along with the speed of the other cars, at a maximum speed of 60 kilometers per hour during heavy traffic, without any input from the driver. Luckily for the driver, he or she will not have to dread about having to step on the brake pads every couple of seconds.Read the entire article 4th Generation Audi A8 (D5) to debut this summer
Jeep will soon be very busy with regards to the next generation of its Wrangler SUV (known as JL and JLU internally). First up, Jeep will be officially unveiling the new generation of the Wrangler (2018 model year) at the 2017 Detroit Motor Show this week. Then, Jeep will be retooling a portion of its Toledo Assembly Complex to prepare for the production of the next-gen Wrangler, local union officials told The Toledo Blade.
Specifically, Jeep will retool the site’s portion that currently produces the Jeep Cherokee. The retooling will commence in April and is expected to be completed within six months. This means that Jeep will stop production of the Cherokee at Toledo starting April, and shift its assembly to Fiat Chrysler’s Belvidere site in Illinois. Local media in Illinois have been reporting that Jeep is currently in the midst of preparing the Belvidere site for Cherokee production. Fiat Chrysler’s Belvidere site used to build the Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriot, with their production ending December 23, 2016.
Once the retooling of this specific portion of the Toledo manufacturing site is completed in November this year, Jeep will immediately commence production of the next-gen Wrangler JL, as disclosed by Bruce Baumhower, president of United Auto Workers Local 12. Assembly of pre-production models will start earlier to determine and iron out the possible kinks in the lines.Read the entire article Jeep to commence production of next-gen Wrangler JL in November 2017
