2016 Smart ForTwo Cabrio is now official ahead of Frankfurt Motor Show

The upcoming Frankfurt International Motor Show is the venue for the unveiling of the open-top version of the smart fortwo, which will be launched in the United States. The new fortwo cabrio is said to be three cars in one – all transformations done with a touch of a button. At its initial form, the fortwo cabrio is a closed two-seater.

However, it can be transformed into a car with a large sliding canvas sunroof. It can also be transformed into a full-fledged cabriolet with the opened soft top for an open air driving experience. These transformations have been made possible by the "tritop" folding soft top and the removable roof bars.

Also, the smart fortwo cabrio is considered to be the only true cabriolet in its vehicle class. The fortwo cabrio takes only 12 seconds to fully open at a push of a button. Even when the vehicle is being driven at top speed, it won’t take a long time before occupants could enjoy the sun.

2018 Paris Motor Show: Smart celebrates 20 years by unveiling forease concept

It has already been 20 years since smart entered into the world of automotive. But smart has no intentions of stopping right now, so it is unveiling a new concept car that doesn’t just celebrate its 20th anniversary, but also provides a glimpse of its vision into the future while still linking with the past. smart will unveiling the new forease two-passenger concept car at the 2018 Paris Motor Show.

Derived from a current vehicle – the smart EQ fortwo cabrio – the new smart forease is the carmaker’s statement of urbanity and individual style, representing the coolness of the metropolis while demonstrating a truly free spirit. While boasting of a seemingly futuristic look, the forease boasts of openness and minimalistic style, as inspired by smart’s pioneering concept vehicles like the crossblade (2001) and the forspeed (2011).

Essentially, the smart forease concept car takes practicality into a simple level, living up to smart’s original motto of “reduce to the max.” While overly minimalistic with details just reduced to the essential, the new forease gives a new meaning to the brand’s definition of emotionality, lifestyle and attitude.

ABT Sportsline shows us a modern day VW Beetle

Any person you ask about a Volkswagen Beetle can probably distinguish it from a lineup, and that is because this car has been very popular worldwide and has been around for a very long time now. Well, one thing we also know about it is that the VW will not produce a new model anytime soon, and this is why German tuner ABT Sportsline is showing us that there still is life in the aging vehicle. You might think that is just a show car, but the special Beetle Convertible is actually a commission by a managing director of a medium sized company.

Let us first talk about the droptop vehicle’s exterior, as it features a bronze wrap with a slightly matte finish that is complemented with the black logos. It then sits on a set of 19 inch wheels with five sets of double spokes and what the firm refers to as a silver bullet finish.

Because the Beetle is quite an old model, we won’t expect it to have a super powerful engine. This is why Abt decided to install engine upgrades that pushes the 2.0 liter turbocharged four cylinder’s output to 286 horsepower (213 kilowatts) instead of the standard 217 horsepower (162 kilowatts). Along with the engine upgrade is a brake upgrade that includes six piston calipers and 14.57 inch (370 millimeter) rotors. The overall ride height has been lowered as well because of the new springs.

Smart will launch special-edition Fortwo to celebrate 10th year in the US

This year marks the tenth anniversary of the Smart brand in the United States. The company aims to celebrate this milestone by launching a special edition 10th Anniversary Edition of the Fortwo Coupe Electric Drive sometime this year.

The Anniversary Edition will be painted in an exclusive shade of blue which they call the Sapphire Blue Metallic, while the exterior will be getting 10th Anniversary badges to give the car some accents. It will be sitting on a set of 16-inch Brabus Monoblock VII wheels, painted in Matte Anthracite Grey to give it a little contrast. Overall, we think that it has a cool colour combination, with the dark blue body and the wheels that stand out.

Most of the changes for the special edition car can be found on the exterior. Though there are changes in the cabin, they may not be as significant. And the only obvious ones include the Brabus-supplied parts for the shift knob and floor mats. Unlike the regular model, the 10th Anniversary Edition model will be getting the Sport Package as a standard. This means that it will be getting brushed stainless steel pedal covers and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

The 2017 Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet is no doubt a powerful car, with a 621 horsepower engine under its hood. Despite its power, Brabus still decided that they'd push the S65's V12 engine even further. By doing so, they were able to extract an additional 267 horsepower, giving it a total of 888 horsepower (662 kilowatts) available from 5,500 rpm. Naturally, torque is also increased to 1,106 pound-feet (1,500 Nm) at 4,200 rpm from only 738 pound-feet (1,000 Newton metres). To preserve reliability, it had to be electronically capped to 885 pound feet (1,200 Nm).

With that much power hike, Brabus didn't just have to do some software revision, but they also had to increase engine displacement from 6.0 to 6.3 liters and enlarge the cylinder bores. Exhaust manifolds and larger turbochargers had to be installed too. The new control system takes care of cooling and stabilizing the car, making it work in the most efficient way while ensuring you get a smooth V12 cabriolet.

Brabus modified a seven-speed automatic transmission that works with the immense power of the V12, giving power to the rear wheels. It has been given a custom limited-slip differential, new intake manifold, bigger down pipes, and a high-performance exhaust that completes the hardware upgrades.

Finally, a fully electric car without steering wheels and pedals is here. Thanks to Smart as they revealed their newest concept car a few days before the 2017 Frankfurt Auto Show. Smart's concept, the Vision EQ ForTwo, focuses more on car sharing as opposed to building a personal vehicle amid the aims of big cities to manage traffic. The concept is a two-seater compact vehicle equipped with an advanced autonomous system.

Daimler's master plan by 2022 is to release 10 production electric vehicles, with the newly established EQ brand. And the Vision EQ ForTwo might be a preview of what we can expect from them. The company also said that their future electric vehicles will range in size from a compact Smart model to a large SUV that carries the Mercedes badge.

This concept actually is a reflection of Daimler’s CASE strategy they mentioned earlier, which stands for “connected, autonomous, shared and electric”. This strategy is set to take place in 2030 and beyond.

A lot of people are excited for the BMW 8 Series Coupe Concept to make its debut. And now, it is at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, which will then be followed by a production model under the same name probably after just a few months. Like any other cars, the 8 Series will probably have some minor changes here and there from the concept to the production model. Having said that, the production model may include the addition of a removable top.

Nothing has been confirmed yet in terms of the production model, but as you can see on this rendering by X-Tomi design, the 8 Series Coupe has lost its roof. Though it looks pretty awesome, it seems just like the artist literally erased the roof from the original photo without modifying the car that much. Another thing that has been added to the design is the Valencia Orange finish, along with a few added cues for the production ready design.

The BMW 8 Series Coupe has been given a set of 21-inch light alloy wheels with multi-spoke design and aero elements, an aggressive front fascia with air vents visible in both bumpers as well as the front fenders. For a touring car look, it was designed to have muscular flared wheel arches, sleek headlights and taillights, and dual exhaust tips.

BMW had just launched the 2018 2-Series Coupe and Cabrio Facelift and M2 Facelift, now with subtle changes both in and outside. Seems like the 2 Series is following the footsteps of its bigger brother, the newly refreshed 4 Series.

One of the most noticeable changes would be the new bi-LED headlights, that now come standard across the range. The new headlights and clusters were designed in a hexagon-like “angel eyes” shape that replaces the rounder layout of the previous models. Customers also have an option to go for an adaptive full-LED setup for an additional cost.

The pair of kidney grilles are now larger, as well as the air intakes for a more aggressive face. Though the rear end looks untouched, BMW says that the standard taillights got a nip and tuck. To complete the new look of the 2 Series, customers get to choose from three new colours including Sunset Orange, Seaside Blue, and Mediterranean Blue. Plus there are four sets of alloy wheels that they can choose from - two sets of 17-inch wheels while the other two measure 18-inches.

For those wondering what having a luxury lifestyle entails, it is about revealing extravagance at every chance. No wonder many car enthusiasts are intrigued with the idea of a Smart Fortwo being reimagined as a Maybach.

Done by Peisert Design, one interesting change is that the front fascia has become flashy. Another thing that perks up the interest of many fans is how the design manages to effortlessly blend the large wheels to the micro car shape of the Smart. For those who want specifics, these are the 22-inch wheels inspired by the Maybach S650. Meanwhile, the front lights and the front grille are based mainly from the Maybach 6 Concept.

Interior-wise Peisert Design used some of the features from the 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class. An excellent example is the full-length glass infotainment system/instrument cluster. Further, fitted to it are two electric motors which drive each wheel. Finally, since it comes from a tradition of luxury, both the sides and the roof utilize carbon fiber panels.

Would you like to shred the streets riding an Audi S3 Cabrio that has had its engine boosted? You're in luck, as a leading auto tuning company has stepped up its game and remade the Audi S3 into a raging speed sports car.

Audi S3 Cabriolet is the convertible, roofless variant of the S3 hatchback that is largely influenced by the S3 Saloon, and is geared to compete against the BMW 2 Series Convertible and the Porsche Boxster. The S3 Cabriolet comes with a 2.0 L turbocharged petrol engine that delivers around 305 HP and 295 lb-ft of torque. Features come with direct and indirect injection system, high strength connecting rods, twin balancer shaft and pure aluminium pistons.

But this convertible will be getting the makeover, ABT Sportsline style. The tuner's ABT Power S package produces speed that has been deemed impressive by the car enthusiasts. It has been compared to a hurricane, but even a hurricane can rarely achieve a wind speed that’s faster and stronger than what the tweaked S3 Cabrio can dish out.

Most of the car enthusiasts perceive the BMW M4 Cabrio as a posh sports car, but the brand never rests on its laurels and focuses instead on offering top performance.

Some vehicle owners like to keep their wheels in check but the individuals behind this open top car is determined to raise the sleek aesthetic by further modifying the automobile. There’s some disagreement on whether it’s working. The stock wheels of the M4 were replaced with blood red Vossen VPS 314T forged directional concave wheels, which gave the sports car a more rugged look.

When compared with the BMW M4 coupe, the roofless car weighs 250 kg (550 lbs) more and is not as fast or as dynamic. Nevertheless, just like its BMW M4 Coupe kin, the M4 Cabrio is powered by the ever impressive forced induction which powers its rear wheels. In place of the M3's convertible that is equipped with 4.0 liter V8, power for the M4 convertible comes with a 425 hp and 406 lb/ft of torque from 1,850 rpm all the way to 5,500 rpm. For its transmission, the variants include a 6 speed manual and a 7 speed dual clutch automatic.

In the last few years, the advent of compact sedans and crossovers has become quite overwhelming. Even two of the major manufacturers that “started it all” have to admit that there is not enough space left in their lineup.

Mercedes-Benz and BMW have finally realized that their coupes and cabrios are quite too many. This made them come onto a decision to get rid of some of their models in the near future. In a separate interview with Car & Driver, both Mercedes-Benz and BMW admitted that a great deal of their convertibles and coupes are becoming endangered with newer, more in-demand body styles.

Ian Robertson, BMW’s head for Sales and Marketing, explained that though the company may still have the upcoming X7 and X2 along with a few more models, BMW has also decided that they will be removing some body styles in the coming years. The segment, he said is “rather full”.

This dynamic-looking roadster looks like your ordinary BMW M6 Convertible (F12). Wrapped in a brown metallic exterior color finish, this BMW M6 Convertible really looks like the average M6 Convertible. But wait until it gets on the road, as this brown BMW M6 Convertible -- as tuned by G-Power -- is a sleeper that could go toe to toe with a Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet in terms of top speed.

Don’t be mistaken; we’re not describing the BMW M6 Convertible as slow. After all, the BMW M6 Convertible is the performance version of the drop-top 6 Series. The most powerful BMW 6 Series Convertible is served by a 4.4-liter BMW TwinPower Turbo V-8 engine that is able to deliver at most 443 hp (330 kW or 450 PS) of output available between 5,500 rpm and 6,000 rpm, as well as up to 650 Nm of torque available between 2,000 rpm and 4,500 rpm. This is enough to send the most powerful BMW 6 Series Convertible accelerating from zero to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds and reaching a top speed of 250 km/h (155.4 mph).

The less dynamic version of the BMW 6 Series Convertible – powered by a 3.0-liter BMW TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder – features 315 hp (235 kW) of max output and 450 Nm of peak torque. This level of power is already aplenty, as it is enough to make the BMW 6 Series Convertible sprint from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 5.4 seconds and reach a max speed of 250 km/h (155.4 mph).

BMW’s latest Grand Tourer variant can finally stand beside Porsche’s range topping Panamera Turbo S, the A7 (Audi’s grand touring luxury sedan) or even a Mercedes-Benz S Class coupe. BMW last week has announced the release of the M Sport Limited Edition. According to the company, the enhancement package will be offered on the 6 Series Gran Coupe, the 6 Series Convertible as well as the 6 Series Coupe.

Other than the existing M badge and aero kits, there are several new optional features that have been made available exclusively for BMW’s 6 Series. Among its exterior upgrades are the new carbon fiber side mirror casings, 20-inch M light alloy wheels with two-color paint scheme, and the latest Sonic Speed Blue Metallic paint.

Introducing a Smart ForTwo Cabrio tuned by high-performance Germany-based aftermarket specialist Brabus. Of course, this version is more powerful, quicker and faster than a typical model of the famed city car, and it is called the new Brabus Ultimate 125 Limited Edition.

As a city car, the Smart ForTwo Cabrio serves its purpose – a mobile unit that is small enough to navigate through busy streets and breeze through parking spaces and tight turns. Moreover, it is also large enough to comfortably accommodate two passengers.

Because of its intended usage as well as size, Smart has seen to it that it the Smart ForTwo Cabrio should be powered by a 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine or a more powerful 0.9-liter three-cylinder turbocharged unit. The turbocharged version is tuned to deliver a max power output of 66 kilowatts (90 horsepower) at 5,500 revolutions per minute and a peak torque of 135 Newton-meters available at 2,500. Sent to the rear wheels through a twinamic dual clutch transmission (six speeds), this amount of power output and torque is good enough to send the Smart ForTwo Cabrio accelerating from nil to 100 kilometers per hour in around 11.7 seconds and reaching a max speed of 100 km/h.

If you have a penchant for the gasoline version of Smart’s ForTwo small coupe and small convertible, better arrange your finances and get a unit before September 2017. That’s because Smart will soon discontinue sales of its conventionally powered small vehicles in North America, including the United States and Canada, according to reports from Automotive News and German publication Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

This development came after Smart dealers in the US and Canada received a game-changing letter from Mercedes-Benz USA chief executive Dietmar Exler. In the letter, Exler noted that Smart’s current product portfolio is facing some challenges brought by developments within the micro-car segment. He then said that as Smart launches the fourth generation of the Smart ForTwo electric drive in the summer, the brand’s product lineup in the US and Canada will include only zero-emissions Smart electric-drive coupe and cabriolet.

Exler’s statement effectively meant the imminent discontinuation of its conventionally powered products. More specifically, Smart will discontinue the production and sales of gasoline-powered offerings after the 2017 model year – only in the US and Canada. Smart will still offer gasoline-powered small cars in other markets.

Do you want to drive or ride in a BMW M2 Convertible? Well, even if you want to, you couldn’t, simply because the German carmaker has no convertible version of the M2. While a 2-Series convertible does exist, an M2 droptop doesn’t. As the performance version of the BMW 2-Series coupe, the M2 coupe could be too good just to be converted into a droptop model.

But now, a convertible version of the M2 has been sighted, but not at the production site of BMW. This M2 Convertible was sighted at the yard of tuner Dahler Design and Technik GmbH in Switzerland. Yes. Since BMW wouldn’t build an M2 convertible, Dahler said it would and it could. Eventually, plans pushed through and that led to the creation of this customized M2 convertible, providing that Dahler is good enough to undertake a project that even BMW wouldn’t venture into.

Considering that there is a real demand for a droptop version of the M2, Dahler went on and created a convertible from a coupe. More than that, Dahler even improved the performance of the model. This was achieved by increasing the output and torque of its turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder M TwinPower Turbo engine, installing a stainless steel exhaust system and a coil-over suspension system. The M2 convertible by Dahler also features a high-performance brake unit, new wheels and tires, several aerodynamic enhancements and a new interior fitting of a convertible.

Late last year, Mercedes-Benz introduced the open variant of their S-class coupe which Daimler board member Ola Källenius describes as a symbol of their passion for individual and timeless mobility that the German automaker has since shared with their customers. The S-Class Cabriolet shows the same distinctive Sonderklasse elegance as that of its coupe.

As cool as the S-Class Cabrio may be, German auto tuner Brabus proves that the open variant S-Class still has a lot of room for improvement. S-Class Cabrio owners may now opt to upgrade their convertibles to an even powerful Brabus 850 6.0 Biturbo Cabrio option.

The Brabus 850 6.0 Biturbo Cabrio option as we have mentioned, is based on Mercedes-Benz’ current S-Class Cabriolet. Unlike the standard convertible S-Class, this modified S-Class Cabrio will come with a 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine. The 850 on its name symbolizes the power that this modified S-Class Cabrio possesses. Its twin-turbocharged V8 engine can actually produce 850 ponies and a torque output of 1,069 lb.-ft. That’s quite powerful for a drop-top S-Class, don’t you think?

Introducing the new smart BRABUS, a version of the smart vehicles made for nimble and agile urban driving with a bit twist of performance. It will be available in fortwo, fortwo cabrio and forfour versions, with sales set to commence in Europe in July 2016.

Making its global debut at the 2016 Beijing Automotive Exhibition, the new smart Brabus is powered by a dynamic turbo engine that provides 5 kW more output to 80 kW (109 hp) at 5,750 rpm and 23 Nm more torque to 170 Nm at 2,000 rpm.

This allows the smart BRABUS to deliver a sporty level of performance unseen in its segment. In fact, this turbo engine enables the smart BRABUS fortwo to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 9.5 seconds and the smart BRABUS forfour to achieve a top speed of up to 180 km/h. With this level of performance, the new smart BRABUS is more dynamic than any previous standard smart.
