The 2015 smart fortwo and forfour cars will feature HARMAN’s JBL sound. This marks that HARMAN, a premium global audio and infotainment group, has provided in-vehicle audio for smart, deepening its relations with the Daimler Group in the field of in-car infotainment. The JBL-equipped smart fortwo and forfour cars made their global debut on July 16 in Berlin and will hit the roads later this year.
The JBL sound system is expected to allow drivers and passengers of the fortwo and the forfour to obtain an ultimate listening experience while on the go. Designers and engineers at both JBL and smart worked together to develop a customized audio system that would surely pave way for an optimal sound in the compact interior of the cars.
For example, JBL and smart rendered the subwoofer removable to make the trunk more spacious when drivers need to carry extra baggage. Likewise, the well-defined JBL sound supports the illusion of driving in a spacious car.Read the entire article Harman JBL sound system finds its way into 2015 Smart ForTwo and ForFour
Daimler officially introduced today the all-new 2015 Smart ForTwo and ForFour models and announced that the new vehicles will arrive in Europe in November. The 2015 Smart ForTwo will be priced under 11,000 euros (model powered by the 71 hp engine), while the 2015 Smart ForFour will cost around 600 euros more with the same engine.
As you can see from the photos, the new models are inspired by the FourJoy Concept that made its debut back in September at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show and is a big step over its predecessor. According to the official press release, the 2015 Smart ForTwo and ForFour models will offer new three-cylinder engines and dual clutch transmission.
Two engines will be available at the market launch: a naturally aspirated engine that delivers 71 hp (52 kW) from a capacity of 999 cc and 91 Nm of torque at 2850 rpm; a 898 cc turbo engine delivers 90 hp (66 kW) and 135 Nm of torque at 2500 rpm. A few months after the market launch, Smart will offer a basic petrol engine that delivers 60 hp (45 kW). Engines will be available with a five-speed manual transmission but also the twinamic six-speed dual clutch transmission.Read the entire article 2015 Smart ForTwo, ForFour models make their official debut
Dieter Zetsche, chief executive of German carmaker Daimler AG, is confident that the all-new Smart ForFour minicar will be successful and will help the brand post its first profit. He remarked that the ForFour is an extended ForTwo, having the attributes of the latter like wider interior relative to length and a rear-mounted engine.
Annette Winkler, chief of the Smart brand, described the ForFour as “the station wagon version of the ForTwo.” Smart rolled out the ForTwo in 1997 and the vehicle was an instant success being as the only two-seat microcar available in the market.
The original ForFour, however, failed to claim similar success. After its launch in 2004, the ForFour was discontinued in June 2006 with just 133,000 units sold. Daimler co-developed the all-new ForFour with Renault.Read the entire article Daimler CEO is confident of success of new Smart ForFour
Consumers in Europe will welcome the arrival of the new Smart ForFour car this year, but those in the United States will not. Smart boss Annette Winkler said during the Detroit auto show that they have yet to decide whether to homologate the ForFour for the US, since the Daimler unit is still unsure whether there is a big enough market in the country for the car to justify the cost of homologation.
According to Winkler, the redesigned ForTwo -- which is wider and roomier than the current model -- may be enough to increase US sales. "There are other regulations to comply with, and to achieve what is needed here costs extra money," she said. Smart posted a 7-percent drop in sales in the US to 9,264 units in 2013.
Steve Cannon, chief executive of Mercedes-Benz USA, remarked that Smart is more of a 10,000 unit niche player than a volume brand. He added that Smart’s fuel economy will help Mercedes-Benz comply with stringent future corporate average fuel economy regulations.Read the entire article New Smart ForFour not expected in the United States this year due to high costs
Smart has introduced the FourJoy Concept last week but the vehicle made its public debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA). The new concept car is said to be a preview for the second-generation ForFour. The concept doesn’t have doors, a roof and tailgate but its shape and silhouette are close to the production version.
Many of its design cues are similar to those of the first-generation. However, the concept is fitted with a big front grille that showcases the big emblem and a honeycomb structure is visible on the structure of the air inlets of the front and the body surfaces, stylish headlights and taillights.
It also has an exciting new feature – the very prominent tridion cell. It is built of polished full-aluminium and its brilliant bright lustre finish highlights the brand’s premium character.Read the entire article 2013 IAA: Smart FourJoy Concept previews the next-generation ForFour [Live Photos]
Mercedes-Benz will soon be working with Renault under a deal that would provide its Smart division with a contemporary front-engined, front-wheel-drive platform as the basis for a frugal new Forfour model, which is due out in 2013.
The new Smart will sit on a lightly modified version of the Renault Twingo's underpinnings, complete with a 2370mm wheelbase.
A Mercedes-Benz official told Autocar that the company is seeking to diverge into other potentially lucrative market segments, not only in Europe but also on a worldwide basis.Read the entire article Mercedes-Benz set to join forces with Renault to built the next Smart Forfour
