MSO R Coupe and Spider: two unique McLaren vehicles built for one customer

McLaren Special Operations division (MSO) recently finished two new bespoke supercars: an MSO R Coupe, and an MSO R Spider. Both vehicles were based on the 650S and are fitted with a number of features. There’s another thing you should know: both vehicles were also made for one lucky and wealthy customer.

The coupe and the spider are among the latest projects of the MSO, and both are equipped with the same internal, external and mechanical specifications. For instance, both come with a 3.8 liter biturbo V8 that carries out 679 horsepower (506 kilowatts) and 516 pound feet (700 Newton metres) of torque. That is actually quite a big difference when you compare it to the standard 650S that produces only 641 horsepower (477 kilowatts). To give them both a unique roar, they were given a new titanium exhaust system with a crossover muffler.

To give them the overall package, both models will be given a dramatic-looking exterior, finished in a beautiful Liquid Silver paint, contrasted by a unique Delta Red pin stripe feature on both the front splitter and side blades. It has been given new elements like the MSO Visual Carbon Viber (VCF) front bumper, hood, louvered fenders, roof scoop, side mirror casing, and the rear decklid. The owner will be reminded of MSO when looking at the exterior, because of the splitter, side skirts, door sills, and rocker panels. Lastly, the coupe comes with a set of new satin black five-spoke wheels, while the spider has been fitted with five-spoke gloss black wheels.

2015 McLaren 625C Coupe and Spider debut just for the Asian market

China is world’s largest market and McLaren sees some impressive sales and in order to boost the numbers even further, the British supercar manufacturer announced its first regionally tailored model aimed at the Asian market. Dubbed the McLaren 625C, the new model is based on the globally available 650S.

As expected, ‘625’ resembles the power delivered by the 3.8-liter twin turbo V8 engine (625 hp), while the ‘C’ stands for ‘Club.’ In addition, the engine delivers 610 Nm of torque and is bolted to a 7-speed SSG transmission.

When equipped with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres, the McLaren 625C Coupe accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.1 seconds, to 200 km/h (124 mph) in 8.8 seconds, to 300 km/h (186 mph) in 26.7 seconds, while top speed is 333 km/h or 207 mph.

McLaren officially unveils the 650S Coupe, announces Spider version too

Yesterday’s leaked photos, made McLaren release the official details and specs of its brand new 650S. Joining the range as an additional model alongside the 12C and the already sold-out McLaren P1, the 650S will be available as a fixed-head coupe or as a Spider, with a retractable folding hard top, just like the 12C Spider.

As expected, the 650S is powered by the same 3.8-liter M838T twin turbo V8 found on the 12C and the P1, delivering 650 hp. Meanwhile the ‘S’ letter stands for ‘Sport’, underlining the focus and developments made to handling, transmission, drivability and engagement. Unfortunately, McLaren did not release any performance figures for the 650S, but we do expect it to be faster than the “standard” 12C.

Regarding the design, the McLaren 650S is inspired by the P1 hypercar and features headlights that reflect a similar look to the P1, has a more integrated front splitter that helps to increased levels of downforce. Moreover, the 650S comes with unique door blades located behind the front wheels that direct air from the trailing edges of the front splitter.

McLaren celebrates 50th anniversary with special 12C coupe and spider

In order to mark its 50th anniversary, McLaren unveiled two commemorative models dubbed McLaren 50 12C and McLaren 50 12C Spider. As expected, the production of the two models will be limited to a maximum of 100 globally, split between just 50 examples of the 12C and 50 of the 12C Spider. Each model will feature a number of bespoke styling and specification enhancements to mark the milestone event, which will be celebrated on 2 September.

Some of the features include a redesigned front bumper, inspired by the limited-run HS Edition models. The lower section of the bumper is made from carbon fiber, while the front floor is made race-derived carbon Kevlar. Above the bumper, we find a McLaren F1-inspired heritage badge, previously available only to MSO clients, fitted on the bonnet.

The McLaren 50 12C and 12C Spider models are fitted as standard with carbon ceramic brakes featuring 394x36mm discs at the front, and 380x34mm at the rear.

Audi opened the order books for the Audi R8 V10 RWS ((Rear Wheel Series) in fall 2017 in Europe, with the model already arriving in dealership earlier this year. At the time it was unveiled, it was still unsure whether Audi is bring the new R8 V10 RWS to the United States. Now, the premium carmaker is indeed bringing the R8 V10 RWS, at a hefty starting price of $139,950 each, Motor Trend says citing its own source.

At this pricing, the Audi R8 V10 RWS – the carmaker’s first-ever production and street-legal rear-wheel-drive R8 model – is around $26,000 cheaper than the Quattro model. However, those who are interested in acquiring this edition of the R8 should remain always alert as to when it would arrive in the US, because only 320 examples are allocated for this market. While Audi didn’t give an official date for the arrival of the R8 V10 RWS in the US, it is expected that this would occur in the last quarter of the year.

The German carmaker only needed to get rid of the Quattro all-wheel-drive system to pave way to the RWD layout, thereby giving birth to the R8 V10 RWS. However, its powerful naturally aspirated V10 remains the same. The removal of the Quattro allowed the R8 V10 RWS to trim its weight by as much as 50 kg (110 pounds) for the Coupe model, and around 40 kg (88 lbs.) for the Spyder variant.

BWM M fans and enthusiasts have been anxiously waiting for the BMW M2 Competition, a very juicy version of the BMW M2 high-performance coupe that is bound to be unveiled at the upcoming Beijing Motor Show two weeks from now. But it seems they don’t need to wait that long before getting a glimpse of the M2 Competition, thanks to a supposed information leak about the new model.

The leak -- traced to BMW Blog Slovenia – doesn’t only contain a single or two images of the M2 Competition high-performance, but quite a number of them. Likewise, the leak also included some juicy technical information about the new M2 Competition.

While BMW hasn’t owned up to the veracity of the leaked images, they seem to be legitimate. Official images or not, these pictures of the BMW M2 Competition show that this version of the high-performance coupe is indeed more hardcore and more prime to rule the roads. The images show three supposedly M2 Competition models sitting side by side and running down the road in different shades: white, red and blue. The images themselves are full of colors, making them look like more of a marketing tool than informative pictures.

A two-door version of the Alfa Romeo Giulia has been making a lot of noise around the web for quite some time now. And now, new reports from Autocar have been going around that a coupe variant of the Giulia is actually in the process of development, though there haven’t been spy shots to prove this. Apparently, rumours come from an inside source close to Alfa Romeo, and the model’s official release is supposedly scheduled late this year before it hits the market in 2019.

The Giulia Coupe is said to carry the “Sprint” or “GTV” badge, and is meant to be a more powerful version of the Giulia Quadrifoglio sedan. It will inherit some of the body panels at the front half, except with a different nose to separate it from its four door sibling.

Needless to say, a more sloped roofline suitable for a coupe is being worked on, together with longer doors and a refreshed rear. According to our source, the Giulia Coupe’s rear end will have a trunk like the BMW 4 Series, Mercedes C Class, and Audi A5 coupes. But further rumours suggest that there might also be a five-door version that the automaker is looking into, to go after the 4 Series Gran Coupe and the A5 Sportback.

Turning belief to reality, the well-known German tuning company created the new Brabus 800 Sedan and Coupe as based on the AMG S 63 4Matic+.

As its name indicates, the Brabus 800 Sedan and Coupe based on the AMG S 63 boasts of 800 PS (789 hp or 588 kW) of max output from the heavily upgraded AMG 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine. The peak torque level has already been boosted from 900 Nm to 1,000 Nm (737 lb.-ft.) as available at just 3,600 rpm. Toyota recently published a teaser with the title “The Legend Returns.” It’s not a secret as we already know that they are referring to none other than the Toyota Supra. For the longest time, Toyota enthusiasts anticipated the time that they will see the Supra, and finally, the automaker announced on social media, their media website and to email boxes around the world that it will arrive at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, describing it as a “modern racing concept” that they will bring back to the market.

British automaker McLaren developed their MSO (McLaren Special Operations) division to make their already exclusive vehicles a little more bespoke. And today, we are going to discuss some of their newest and coolest products that indicate the company’s expertise in style and performance to the Sports Series range.

For instance, if you own a 570S Coupe, 570GT and 570S Spider, and you want to achieve a meaner sound, you can always order the new titanium exhaust. It is actually lighter than the stock unit by 11 pounds (5 kilograms). Best of all, it makes the sound it produces five decibels louder. MSO claims that the car’s new tone sounds cleaner and crisper, and that this comes from the rear end of the vehicle.

Today, the titanium exhaust runs 4,750 pounds ($6,570 at current exchange rates), and this part can be had in a Nano Black finish, instead of the standard Nano Clear colour. The good news here is that these add-ons will not only be available as an option for new cars, as later this year, MSO will be offering these as an upgrade to already existing Sports Series owners.
