Subaru customers and fans in the United States have been somewhat envious of their counterparts in Japan. This is because Subaru, most of the time, launches high-performance special edition models exclusive for the Japanese market. But this time, American fans and customers are getting what they’ve long wanted.
This coming spring 2018, Subaru will commence sales of not just one, but two hardcore limited edition models – the 2018 Subaru WRX STI Type RA and the 2018 Subaru BRZ tS. Each model will be available with just 500 units, with the WRX STI Type RA priced at $48,995 and the BRZ tS at $33,495. Prices exclude the $860 destination and delivery cost.
The 2018 WRX STI Type RA offers higher levels of performance through its reduced weight as well as upgrades made to its engine and suspension. Its 2.5-liter turbocharged boxer engine delivers 310 hp thanks to a new cold air intake, high flow performance exhaust, a retuned ECU and stronger pistons. The gearing of its six-speed manual transmission has also been revised.Read the entire article 2018 Subaru WRX STI Type RA and BRZ tS arrive in the US this spring, pricing details released
The BRZ may be one of Subaru’s best-selling cars, and it seems like it is also the automaker’s favourite. The reason why I said that is because the Japanese car maker has just revealed another variant of the BRZ, the STI Sport. The special edition model will have some extra updates here and there, and will only be sold exclusively in Japan. Subaru Tecnica International signed this latest project and said that whoever gets behind the wheel of this fun-to-drive sports car will experience “pure handling delight”, as it delivers superior handling and ride quality compared to the normal BRZ. This model will make its debut at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show just a month from now.
Just because it is a Sport trim, does not instantly mean that it will have more power. In fact, it does not. However, it does get the same exclusive suspension tuning and body rigidity that all BRZ versions have. The STI Sport trim is currently the highest specification of the coupe to date and that it will be available in a bespoke Cool Grey Khaki paint. Being the range topper, it is natural that it gets additional tweaks in and outside the car.
Those who are interested in the BRZ STI Sport can already sign up at Japanese dealerships. However, unlike regular vehicles, it will not be sold on a first come, first serve basis. The company will hold a lottery, and will randomly select names of people who will be eligible to purchase one. We should find out more about this as the automakers announces the procedure and the full mechanics of the lottery at the Tokyo Motor Show on October 25.Read the entire article Subaru BRZ STI Sport Special Edition will soon arrive at 2017 Tokyo Motor Show
Honda recently announced that the 2017 Civic Type R will be the first ever Civic Type R to make its way to U.S. shores, and it will be auctioned at "Bring a Trailer" site to a lucky guy for a good cause. Well, this time Honda may have a challenger that will also make its US debut soon. The vehicle in question is the 2018 Subaru BRZ tS, the US-spec version of which was officially revealed on June 8.
If you are an avid follower of Subaru Technica International, also commonly known as STI, you’ve probably been following news about this awe-inspiring model. The new WRX STI Type RA, as well as the U.S.-spec variant of the Subaru BRZ tS, finally had their wraps off.
The most recent teaser image of the tS revealed lightweight STI wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport Tires, Brembo brakes and an upgraded aero package that comes with the hashtag #BRZts. The 2015 BRZ tS edition that was Japan-only unit model and only limited to 300 units, was released without the wing, but it was built with Bilstein suspension all around, an STI engine V Bar, carbon fiber look dash pane, Recaro bucket seats and Alcantara trimmings found throughout the cabin.Read the entire article Track-Ready 2018 Subaru BRZ tS is unveiled

Subaru’s performance division is expanding into the U.S. and to announce this plan, it has introduced the STI Performance Concept at the New York International Auto Show. Subaru of America, Inc. revealed that the STI Performance Concept signals the expansion of Subaru Tecnica International (STI) into aftermarket parts, STI-tuned cars and motorsports – its three core business areas.
In fact, STI-engineered parts have already started to replace Subaru Performance Tuning (SPT) aftermarket parts in the U.S. market. This move is also evident with the heightened presence of STI in Subaru of America’s Global RallyCross team.
We’re expecting that more models that were tuned by STI will be offered in the U.S. Modifications to these cars will be more extensive, including upgrades to its suspension, performance, braking, chassis and aerodynamics.Read the entire article Subaru presents the BRZ STI Performance Concept
Despite the fact that some rumors killed the second-generation of the Subaru BRZ, Yasuyuki Yoshinga a.k.a. president of Subaru’s parent Fuki Heavy Industries wanted to ensure the fans of the Japanese sporty coupe that a new version is coming. According to Yasuyuki Yoshinga, Subaru is planning a second-generation of the BRZ, which will be jointly developed with Toyota.
Yoshinga also added that without Toyota’s volume it wouldn’t be viable for Subaru to build the new car by itself. Although the sales of Scion FR-S fell 24 percent to 7,662 units through June 2014, Subaru BRZ sales rose 6 percent through the same month to 4,295 units.
In June 2014, both vehicles’ sales suffered the double-digit slumps. Recently, the Subaru BRZ was updated for the 2015MY and comes as standard with a 2.0-liter Boxer engine that generates 200 hp, bolted to a six-speed manual transmission.Read the entire article Official: Subaru boss confirms next-generation BRZ

For those wanting a convertible version of the Subaru BRZ sporty coupe, Subaru brand chief Yasuyuki Yoshinaga has bad news for you – it is a big “no”. He says it would require a complete overhaul to comply with safety standards. His remarks came as Toyota Motor Corp., which sells a rebadged version of the Scion FR-S, unveiled its convertible concept at the Tokyo Motor Show.
Yoshinaga, who is also president of Subaru-brand parent Fuji Heavy Industries, remarked that his company would not build a drop-top variant for the both carmakers.
He remarked at the show that since Subaru builds the BRZ/FR-S (also known as Toyota 86 or Toyota GT86 in other markets), a convertible version won’t happen if they decide against it. He said that their engineering department has told him that doing away with the entire roof needs a complete redesign of the structure – which means a big change.Read the entire article Subaru brand chief says no to convertible version of the BRZ

If the Subaru BRZ STi was just a rumor, today it became official! The Japanese manufacturer has just released two teasers with the upcoming sporty coupe, but there is not much to see, just the STi badges on the front bumper and on the front fenders.
As you may know already, Subaru first offered a glimpse of the upcoming car with the BRZ Concept STi Concept, shown back in 2011 at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
A year later, the Japanese carmaker was caught at Nurburgring testing the STi version of the BRZ. In terms of design, there are little changes such as a large rear wing and larger wheels that will accommodate larger brake discs.Read the entire article Subaru BRZ STi officially confirmed
When the Subaru BRZ was launched in spring 2012, only a limited amount was allocated for customers in the in the United Kingdom. But thanks to high demand from buyers in the country, Subaru UK has lobbied for an increase in the allocation. Wish granted!
More Subaru BRZ is coming to Britain starting this year after Subaru UK managed to secure a larger annual allocation of the vehicle from the brand’s Gunma site in Ota-city, Japan.
This came along with the confirmation that a number of Subaru UK-approved BRZ performance, handling and styling modifications -- courtesy of Pro-R -- will be unveiled for the UK market and will be available in the next few months via the carmaker’s dealer network.Read the entire article Subaru UK gets larger allocation for BRZ sports cars
It’s rumored that Nissan wants to reassert its supremacy when it comes to building sports cars by developing a next-generation 240SX that would easily beat Subaru’s BRZ and Scion’s FR-S from Toyota. Nissan has been known for having built the finest sports cars in the world for many years now.
The 370Z and the GT-R have both gained acclaim for their performance and their relatively low price so Nissan now sees the need to offer a real sports car that costs under $30,000. Nissan hasn’t had a competitive entry in this segment ever since the 240SX halted production.
Even so, the 240 America didn’t offer the same impressive performance as the one sold in Japan. It’s also believed that Nissan will use the platform that’s also used by the 370Z.Read the entire article Nissan still wants to develop a next-generation 240SX to take on the Subaru BRZ
The latest Fast and the Furious movie will feature the 2013 Subaru BRZ. The rear-drive sports car made quite an impression at the Motor Trend’s World’s Greatest Drag Race 2. There are reports that Subaru has given as many as five BRZs to the “Fast and the Furious 6” crew. It’s probable that at least one will get a full Fast and Furious garb, which includes a full body kit, upgraded wheels, and a lowered suspension.
The main revisions are found under the hood. Even if the stock 2013 BRZ delivers 200 hp and 151 lb-ft from a 2.0-liter I-4, a turbocharger or a supercharger would surely improve the car’s record from its tested 0-60mph acceleration time of 6.4 seconds with a six-speed manual transmission.
In addition, it’s rumored that Fast Six cars such as the BRZ may be featured together with actors like Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson who started in the most recent Fast and Furious movie.Read the entire article 2013 Subaru BRZ to be featured in Fast and the Furious 6 movie
Toyota and Subaru are currently working hard to fix the issues that hound their jointly developed sporty coupes. The initial batches of Subaru BRZ coupe and its Scion FR-S twin, which is also known as Toyota FT-86 outside the US, have shown some problems caused by a software mapping glitch.
While Toyota and Subaru officials say the problem is simply a software glitch and does not involve any mechanical defect, some coupe owners beg to disagree, saying that the fix that the carmakers have suggested has failed to keep the problem from recurring.
According to Toyota spokesman Brian Lyons, when the vehicles’ engine control unit (ECU) is installed, it adapts to the powertrain and owner's driving patterns in a process called adaptive learning. However those settings are basically frozen in the ECU within 100 miles.Read the entire article Toyota and Subaru working to fix defects on Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S
Deliveries of the all-new Subaru BRZ sports car have begun. Ed Horner got the keys to the first model (with a World Rally Blue Mica finish) delivered on June 26. Horner is from Wanstead, north-east London. He ordered the unit from local dealer, Woodford Motor Company in Woodford Green, Essex. He said that he chose the BRZ due to its light weight and conventional sports car shape.
He also liked Subaru's focus on making a fun rear-wheel drive car. He said that he had never had a problem with any of the Subaru models he owned such as an Impreza Turbo and a Legacy Tourer, which he bought in 2010. He also praised the “really helpful” staff at the Woodford Motor Company.
Stephen Barnard, Dealer Principal at Woodford Motor Co., said that even before the BRZ started selling, there has been a tremendous interest in it, from those who already have Subarus as well as those who don’t.Read the entire article First Subaru BRZ delivered in the UK
Edmunds.com said that the vehicles that sold the fastest in May included Subaru and Toyota’s newly launched sports cars and hybrids aside from the usual models. The Subaru BRZ is at No. 1 while Toyota's Scion FR-S is No. 2 in this list. Edmunds.com made this list by calculating the days-to-turn, which is the number of days from the day that the vehicle arrived at the dealership until the day it is sold.
It only took four days to sell the BRZ while the FR-S sold after just five days. The industry, on average, takes 53 days to sell a unit. Subaru and Toyota have developed both of these entry-level, rear-drive sports coupes. Their prices are around $25,000, and they have the same underpinnings. Toyota and Subaru came together to develop inexpensive, basic 2+2 sports cars that will be their halo models.
The rear-drive-only BRZ gives Subaru a sporty offering that is priced lower than the WRX. But for Scion, the GT 86 is reminiscent of the Toyota AE86, a moderately-priced sports car available from 1983 to 1987 that had been what inspired the FR-S design. The cars built by Subaru in Japan have been getting a lot of praises.Read the entire article Scion FR-S, Subaru BRZ were the vehicles that sold the fastest in May
Subaru UK has revealed the price details as well as two variants of the new BRZ sports vehicle, ahead of its entry into the showrooms this summer in the United Kingdom. The automobile is already recognized to deliver a thoroughbred driving experience due to its light weight, high-revving 2.0 liter Boxer engine superb rear-wheel-drive chassis balance and low centre of gravity.
The vehicle will provide great value for the money with its confirmed on-the-road price which ranges from only £24,995 to £27,995.
Customers will have a good selection of trim levels and interior equipment for the Subaru BRZ, which will be offered in 2.0i SE and 2.0i SE Lux variants with an option to choose from a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic with paddle shift operation, which is available for £1,500 more.Read the entire article Subaru BRZ has a starting price of £24,995 in the UK
Nissan is considering downsizing its sports models, making them smaller, lighter and powered by smaller engines. Nissan’s head of design Shiro Nakamura said that he prefers smaller sports car that could be powered by smaller engines. This could mean that some of the Nissan’s iconic models like the Nissan Z and Silvia, also known as 200SX, would have smaller future generations.
The small sizes of cars call for smaller engines, both of which should be balanced well to ensure that cars perform as expected. According to Nakamura, Nissan has made making its next generation sports cars lighter as priority.
Lightweight sports cars have been proven to exhibit better agility and speed than their heavier counterparts. Smaller sports cars could now be possible since engine technologies have been enabling car manufacturers to develop and use smaller yet more efficient engines. BMW has fitted the latest M5 model with a more powerful 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8, replacing its 5.0-litre V10 engine.Read the entire article Nissan mulls making smaller sports cars to take on Subaru BRZ, Toyota GT86
