Suzuki SX4 S-Cross gets the maximum 5-Star rating from Euro NCAP crash tests

Euro NCAP gave the maximum 5-star rating to the Suzuki SX4 S-Cross, making it one of the safest cars in Europe. Suzuki’s new C-segment crossover earned an above-average overall result in this new independent crash testing. It was on pedestrian protection that the SX4 S-Cross did particularly well.

It achieved a top-class rating in total score for newly adopted test methodology that started this year. Euro NCAP gives one overall star rating with five stars being the highest.

How many stars there are show the vehicle’s performance level in all four areas -- adult protection, child safety, pedestrian protection and safety assist.

Suzuki expects a major sales increase from the 2013 SX4

Suzuki thinks that after shifting the SX4 crossover into a larger segment, it will get a major sales increase. In the compact segment, the new SX4 will go up against models like the Nissan Qashqai. The present car is a subcompact. According to Suzuki’s Europe chief, Takanori Suzuki, the SX4 is predicted to sell much higher than the current car because of its bigger space as well as its crossover appearance.

He told Automotive News Europe that this is the first time for Suzuki to have a car like this, particularly with its 430-liter luggage space, which is one of the best in its class. The outgoing SX4 only has a 270-liter trunk space.

160mm has been added to the length of the new SX4. So far, Suzuki hasn’t unveiled pricing for the SX4, which will begin selling this September.

Suzuki introduces the 2013 SX4 at the Geneva Motor Show

Suzuki Motor Corporation has introduced the all-new SX4 Crossover at the 83rd Geneva International Motor Show. This production model is based on the S-Cross, which was unveiled at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. Suzuki’s designers and engineers started to develop the new model as the existing SX4’s successor.

But the company realized that they had to “think bigger” if they wanted to meet customers’ expectations when it comes to crossovers in Europe and other areas throughout the world. As the new model enters the C segment because of its bigger size, it gets the “SX4” emblem to indicate that Suzuki (the letter “S”) is a pioneer of both crossover and four-wheel drive (the “X” and “4” respectively).

Suzuki made the new SX4 Crossover by combining its compact car expertise with technologies developed for sport utility vehicles. The new SX4 Crossover features distinctive crossover styling, class-leading room for passengers and luggage, next generation 4WD performance, and one of the cars in the segment with the lowest CO2 emissions.
