Tesla launches Chill Mode on recent over-the-air update; includes easier entry and exit feature too

Tesla introduces a new software update for Model X and Model S to let drivers select between standard or a more gradual acceleration setup. Chill Mode, being the newest option, is quite the opposite of Tesla’s Ludicrous and Insane modes as the Chill offers a softer acceleration unlike the previous features which we know are focused towards performance.

In a bid to provide “smoother driving” and a “gentler ride”, the new option has been added to tone down the rather quick acceleration that comes with both the Model S and Model X. This specifically becomes more useful when drivers want to slow down from Tesla’s Ludicrous Mode or standard setup. On a Model S 100D for example, the standard acceleration can allow it to go from a zero to 60 mph in less than 4 seconds. When set under Chill, the Model S can go from zero to 60 within 7.2 seconds. Although it may not be everyone’s cup of tea, the slower takeoff provides an option for those who prefer a more relaxing ride. The Ludicrous Mode, as we know, is capable of taking off in 2.28 seconds.

While it is still uncertain at this point whether or not the update will ever make its way to the new Model 3, it is interesting to note that Tesla has come to realize that not all owners are after the quick Modes. The Chill is only currently available on the Model S and Model X.

UberOne service is launched in Dubai, Tesla Model S and Model X are available for booking

Starting this month, the Uber Service in Dubai will begin to offer the new Tesla Model S or Model X to bring passengers to their destination. This comes as Uber entered into a partnership with Dubai Taxi Corporation to become the company’s exclusive ride-hailing partner for its fleet of luxury electric vehicles.

Earlier this year, Tesla inked a deal to deliver 200 units of the Model S sedan and Model X SUV – all ‘fully self-driving-capability’ to Dubai Taxi. The taxi company took delivery of 50 of these Tesla vehicles in September and is now readying them for public use. To this regard, Dubai Taxi entered into a partnership with Uber, which will deploy these 50 new Tesla vehicles under UberONE service in Dubai.

This means that riders across Dubai now have the chance to request a Tesla Model S or Model X from their smartphones. The service could be accessed just by downloading the Uber app and selecting the UberOne option.

Tesla cuts $3,000 off the price of base Model X, more standard features will be offered

No one is expecting this right in the middle of what its CEO calls “production hell” for Tesla’s upcoming Model 3. But then it happened. Much to everyone’s surprise, the standard model’s starting price dropped overnight by $3,000 after the company updated their website.

At the moment that Tesla launched the Model X, its CEO Elon Musk announced that its price would be higher than the Model S by at least $5,000. Sounds too good to be true? Well, not anymore.

Pricing for the Model X 75D was originally pegged at $82,500 which is significantly higher compared to the Model S 75D that sells for only $74,500. Soon after the $3,000 price cut, the base Model X now costs only $79,500. A small $5,000 difference.

T Sportline can give your Tesla Model S and Model X a full leather interior

Not so long ago, Tesla had decided to make environment friendly electric cars. And now, they have become vegan-friendly too, by completely eliminating genuine leather options for the interior, leaving only synthetic leather options for the cars, as they are better for the environment. This is because vegan customers started lobbying for a premium option that was animal-friendly. This is relevant only to the higher-trim models as these models were tied to leather seat packaging. Now, the premium models are getting the same package that was first introduced in 2016.

Though organizations like PETA were impressed with what Tesla has done, not all customers are happy with the vegan options, especially those who want an over the top luxurious interior. But do not worry as Tesla Model S and Model X owners can now give your cars a leather and carbon fiber interior. These definitely won’t be from Tesla, but instead, a tuner is offering this package instead. That would be T Sportline.

The tuner is known for their luxurious customizations on whatever Tesla model you can name - from the Roadster to the Model X. Now, they have introduced a custom leather package for any Tesla Model S or Model X. Unlike what the company is offering now, T Sportline can give you a full grain Nappa leather cabin like that of the OEMs. These are durable and luxurious, and can be had in a range of unique colours.

Tesla has been all over the news lately. Earlier, Elon Musk announced that the Tesla Model 3, their first mass market electric vehicle, will be delivered to the first 30 customers on July 28.

But that was not the only report that attracted a lot of attention. A spokesperson from the company had just confirmed that the Tesla Model S and Model X are both getting a series of upgrades. Not many details were provided, but changes will involve both software and hardware modifications, which will likely boost the performance of the new models.

For the entry level 75 variant Tesla Model S, there is a noticeable difference in terms of performance as its 0-60 miles per hour time is cut short by 1.2 seconds - from 5.5 seconds to only 4.3 seconds. As for the 75D trim, it reduced its sprint time from 5.2 seconds to only 4.2 seconds. For the 100D, change is not as prominent with only a 0.1 second difference compared to its predecessor, now performing the 0-60 mph run in just 4.1 seconds.

The Swedish moose test is known to have victimized many in the past, including the Toyota Hilux that massively failed. So knowing that many cars from trusted and leading automakers have failed, how do you think Tesla's all-electric Model X will do? Surprisingly, it did very well.

But before getting into detail, it was confirmed last week that the Tesla Model X officially became the highest safety rated SUV, earning a 5-star rating in every single category from NHTSA.

Though the moose test is not part of the NHTSA, the Tesla Model X did particularly well in the rollover test, all thanks to its battery pack located at the bottom of the chassis - developing a low center of gravity.

Tesla has been rolling out significant improvements to its 2nd generation Autopilot system since January. In connection to this, the EV company last week performed another major update in hopes to achieve fully autonomous driving by the end of the year.

Tesla’s Enhanced Autopilot 2.0 now consists of AutoSteer and Auto Lane Change, Forward + Side Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Summon, Parallel + Perpendicular Autopark and Traffic Aware Cruise Control.

Knowing that fully autonomous driving is right around the corner, All Model S and Model X produced since October 2016 have been equipped with all the necessary hardware to self- drive completely. This includes 8 cameras with 360-degree visibility with 820 feet (250 meters) range as well as 1 radar sensor with enhanced processing feature to help see through dust, fog or heavy rain.

Tesla Motors could now confidently say that its Tesla Model X is the safest sports utility vehicle and perhaps the safest electric vehicle so far.

After all, no other SUV or vehicle could surpass the recent ratings scored by the Tesla Model X (2017 model year) in the latest round of independent tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Of course, there is nothing that exceeds the maximum five stars awarded by NHTSA to vehicles following testing. This means other SUVs or vehicles could – at best – match the ratings earned by the 2017 Tesla Model X.

Overall, five variants of the 2017 Tesla Model X SUV were tested: Model X 60D AWD, Model X 75D AWD, Model X 90D AWD, Model X P90D AWD and Model X P100D AWD. All these variants were made to undergo three test categories: front crash, overall side crash (both side barrier and pole crashes) and rollover resistance.

There will be fewer than 100 various configurations for the upcoming Tesla Model 3. There also won’t be as many battery options and there would likely be a simplified Design Studio. Now, the Elon Musk-led Tesla recently updated its online configurator for the Model S and X design studio that packages vehicle configurations into 3 divisions: standard, premium and performance. The updates take effect before the company's planned production of its $35k mass market Tesla Model 3. This gives us a glimpse of what the Model 3 will possibly look like.

The updated configurator provides you the options to choose between 75 and 100 kWh battery packs. It’s also apparent that it removed the 90kWh battery pack option that's scheduled for discontinuation this June 8. The American automaker indicates that the 75 (no all-wheel drive option) is the standard model. The 100D is appointed as the premium trim and the P100D is considered the performance model. Model S and Model X purchasers can opt for either a "standard" configuration with a 75kWh battery pack that can run 249 miles of range on the Model S and 237 miles on the Model X, or a premium configuration that uses Tesla's long range 100 kWh battery pack.

Model S is capable of 335 miles of range on the 100kWh pack and the Model X will definitely have 300 mile per single charge. Adrenaline lovers can now opt for a performance package that swaps driving range with increased acceleration. Only recently, the Tesla models will not be categorized by its battery size, as they will be classified by trim comparable to what conventional automakers do. As the American automaker is aiming for the mass production of the Tesla Model 3, it has had the opportunity to appreciate its simple system.

Back in 2016, RevoZport for the first time modified the Model S for Hong Kong’s e-Touring Challenge. This was named the RevoZport R- Zentric P90D Model S safety car. The heavily modified Model S would later serve as the safety vehicle for the FIA Formula E Hong Kong ePrix held last October 9 at the Harbourfront in Hong Kong. Certainly, RevoZport was one of the first auto tuners to dress up a Tesla this far.

Now with the new Tesla Model X, the aftermarket tuning company also has some new accessories built for the crossover. The Hong Kong based auto tuner offers the Model X with its new R-Zentric tuning package. The aero kit comes complete with the brand’s signature diffuser, rear spoiler, side sills and front splitter. The much-anticipated Autopilot update from Tesla Motors is finally here, a good sign that the electric carmaker is inching closer to making its entire vehicle lineup capable of autonomous driving. Certainly, this would be a big reason to rejoice if you are an owner of a Tesla vehicle.

But before you celebrate, Tesla Motors has clarified that not all Tesla units will receive the update called the Enhanced Autopilot system. The latest Autopilot update will only be sent over-the-air to 1,000 new Tesla cars, including the brand new Tesla Model S and Tesla Model X.

As far as we could remember, the newer versions of the Model S and Model X feature the so-called Hardware 2, a redesigned suite of hardware that includes 12 ultrasonic sensors and eight cameras that allow the new modes to monitor on-road activity. However, these ultrasonic sensors and cameras can’t be utilized well because they lack the necessary complementary software.

Tesla is being sued by a famous South Korean actor and singer because his Tesla Model X electric SUV allegedly accelerated and crashed into his house in California.

As reported by Reuters, Ji-chang Son is claiming that while he was slowly driving his Tesla Model X into his driveway on September 10, 2016, the SUV suddenly accelerated at full power, “jerking forward” and then crashing through the interior wall of the garage.

It ultimately halted in his living room. Son filed a lawsuit in United States District Court in the Central District of California, seeking class action status based on seven previously reported cases of alleged sudden acceleration events involving Tesla vehicles as compiled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Son’s lawsuit alleges product liability as well as negligence and breaches of warranty. He is also seeking still undetermined damages.

Tesla is making sure that all models under production will receive the necessary advanced hardware that will allow them to be autonomously driven. The fitment of these advanced hardware to the Tesla Model X, Model S, and Model 3 is part of the carmaker’s commitment to pursue autonomous driving.

The California-based company still believes in the crucial role that that self-driving vehicles would play in enhancing transportation safety while accelerating the global transition to a more sustainable future. In addition, Tesla believes that a fully autonomous car is substantially safer than a human driver and could even reduce the cost of transportation for car owners while providing low-cost on-demand mobility for people who do not own one.

These new hardware includes eight surround cameras that could provide 360 degree visibility around the vehicles with a range of up to 250 meters. The capability of these eight surround cameras is complemented by 12 updated ultrasonic sensors, which means that Tesla’s Model X, Model S, and Model 3 could now better detect both hard and soft objects at almost twice the distance of the prior detecting system. In addition, the new Tesla cars now have a forward-facing radar -- with improved processing – that could send additional data about the surrounding using a redundant wavelength. This radar allows the car to see through fog, dust or heavy rain as well as the vehicle in front.

Say hello to the fastest accelerating production car in the world: the new 2017 Tesla Model S P100D. Powered by a 100 kWh battery, this new model basically outruns almost every production car there is in the race to 60 mph -- except when pitted against LaFerrari and the Porsche 918 Spyder.

Having the capability to sprint from zero to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds, the new Tesla Model S (P100D with Ludicrous mode, in particular), is a true production that is widely available. Add that to the fact that the four-door all-electric car could comfortably accommodate five adults and two children while still having more than enough space for cargo.

Now compare that to quicker units like LaFerrari and the Porsche 918 Spyder – these hypercars were produced in a limited number for a limited period of time. In addition, LaFerrari and the Porsche 918 Spyder are both smaller than the Model S P100D, able to accommodate only two people and could only load little amount of cargo.

Just recently, the German government announced that it will offer sales subsidies for electric vehicles with prices less than €60,000. It is part of the government’s €1.2 billion electric car purchase incentive scheme which we believe aims to encourage automakers to create more environment friendly vehicular alternatives.

Mercedes-Benz seems to have accepted the challenge and is in the works of creating their first line of electric vehicles. According to Thomas Weber, Mercedes-Benz outgoing research and development boss, four new electric vehicles will be joining the Mercedes line-up targeted by the end of 2020. It will be composed of two electric saloons and two SUVS. It will be competing with EVs developed by Tesla Motors’ Model S, one of the leading EVs since its production in 2012. It will also be released as a response to Audi’s production version of the e-tron quattro concept set to debut in 2018.

Mercedes will base the saloons on the C- and S-Class while the SUVs will be similar to the GLA and GLC. A modified version of the MFA platform, the same platform used by the B-Class Electric Drive, will be adopted by the GLA-based SUV while the GLC-based SUV and the saloons will have a brand new variant of the Modular Rear Architecture or MRA platform which is made specifically for EV applications. Not much information has been released regarding the saloons but it looks like the SUV’s entry to the automotive world is inevitable as it has been tentatively planned to go into production by 2019. It will make its first appearance in September at the Paris Motor Show.

Technology is considered to be one of the greatest sources of power. The more advanced the technology is, the better chances of supremacy in the world market. Moreover, the more innovative and updated a certain kind of technology is, the more it attracts attention and profit.

However, if one fails to keep that technology well-maintained, the more chances there are that problems will soon arise which could end up with various consequences. As Spider Man’s uncle Ben once said, “With great power comes great responsibility” – that is why it takes a whole lot of responsibility (and energy) to keep all technological innovations in good working condition.

We are currently living in a fast-paced world where new technology is being developed every minute. It has even penetrated the automotive world which is now in a race to build the best cars with the best hi-tech features. Often, it takes multiple trials to perfect software applications and features. There are also a few unavoidable glitches that surface only after being distributed to its rightful owners.

Recently, Ford bought a Tesla Model X unit for $199,950 just to dissect it and find out what exactly what technology is running this model. It is $55,000 more than the sticker price, which proves how much Ford wants to get its hands on the SUV and conduct its engineering research.

According to a Ford spokesman, competitive benchmarking is a common practice in the car industry even if it means paying more than the sticker price just to acquire a competitor’s vehicle as soon as possible. Companies usually buy rival models from brokers rather than directly buying from the rival producer. However, the details about what Ford is doing with the Tesla Model X are quite sparse.

Usually, carmakers tear apart rival’s vehicles part by part to see how it was constructed and engineered after driving them around for a few rounds. This allows carmakers to study and observe how their competitors plan and build their vehicles, giving them a possible advantage. Basically, it is just a reverse engineering procedure.
