It has been five years since the second generation of the Toyota Auris was launched in Europe, and the compact vehicle managed to steadily receive the attention of C-segment customers in this part of the world. Now, Toyota intends to ignite anew the interest for the Auris in the 2018 model year by launching a limited edition model based on its Touring Sports wagon version.
The new Auris Touring Sports Freestyle Edition is simply a reinterpreted version of the Auris Touring Sports wagon. The Auris Touring Sports Freestyle edition features a number of smart urban styling cues that help set it apart from a typical Auris Touring Sports wagon. For instance, the new Auris Touring Sports Freestyle edition is provided with a black front grille, rear privacy glass as well as door mirror covers in bright silver. Its wheel arch covers and side skirts are also finished in black while its front and rear underbody protections are wrapped in an aluminum finish. Further distinguishing styling cues include a set of five double-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels with a black and machined silver finish.
Interestingly, the new Auris Touring Sports Freestyle edition won’t be offered in a single specific powertrain package. Instead, the new Auris Touring Sports Freestyle edition will be made available in various powertrain options, including the conventional petrol and diesel engines as well as a hybrid drive. In terms of utility, the new Auris Touring Sports Freestyle edition offers up to 1,685 liters of cargo capacity when the rear seats are folded down.Read the entire article Toyota seeks to widen appeal of Auris compact with new Touring Sports Freestyle special edition
Toyota has recently launched a new downsized turbo unit – a 1.2-liter direct-injection turbocharged engine for the Japan-market Toyota Auris small car – as part of its worldwide engine upgrade of 14 high-efficiency powerplants through 2015. Toyota began to introduce its lineup of more frugal but more powerful engines last year.
It’s expected that by the end of the year, Toyota would have already rolled out 14 improved engines that cover around 30% of Toyota's global nameplates, which include the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine installed in the Lexus NX crossover. The company has also recently presented a new 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine intended for the Corolla.
This range of engines offers fuel economy that’s at least 10% better than the current ones – a major aspect in Toyota’s goal to comply with increasingly stringent emissions standards. The automaker had prioritized gasoline-electric hybrid drivetrains over traditional internal combustion systems but the company is currently overhauling the base engines throughout the lineup.Read the entire article Toyota launches 1.2-liter direct-injection turbocharged engine for Auris
Toyota wants to boosts its crossover lineup and as a result, the Japanese manufacturer is working on a new crossover based on its popular Auris. Set to go on sale in 2017, the new crossover will sit below the RAV4 and will take on vehicles such as the Honda CR-V and Nissan Qashqai.
Toyota is already testing prototype versions of the Auris-based crossover, which is expected to be offered as standard with front-wheel-drive while AWD will be available as an option.
Under the hood we will find the 1.6-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that generates around 130 hp, but also a hybrid version that will use the well-known 1.8-liter Atkinson cycle petrol engine found on the Auris Hybrid. More details to be revealed!Read the entire article Toyota working on a new crossover based on Auris
Toyota is intending to show the world how it builds its Auris hybrid compact car at its Burnaston site in the United Kingdom through Twitter. The carmaker said that through Twitter, it could reach hundreds of thousands of potential customers. Starting Wednesday, June 19, 2013, Toyota will broadcast hundreds of tweets that will follow the building of an Auris hybrid from raw steel to a complete vehicle.
The Japanese carmaker said Twitter site will showcase the "built-in quality" of its production processes and will appeal to people who wants to learn how cars a produced. Scott Brownlee, head of social media for Toyota Great Britain, told Automotive News Europe that Toyota wants to convey the quality of its cars to people who are not involved in car production, noting that the Twitter campaign “is a good way to do that."
He added that they are trying to engage with customers beyond the buying process at dealerships. Toyota’s Twitter campaign will entail posting links to photos, video and blog content in its Tweets.Read the entire article Toyota to narrate Auris hybrid production through Twitter
A newcomer to the compact estate car market is sure to attract a lot of interest as well as buyers thanks to its class-leading functionality and an optional full hybrid power. This newcomer is the UK-built Toyota Auris Touring Sports, which features a very modern Toyota design and a load capacity of up to 1,658 litres.
Add those to its very low carbon dioxide emissions of just 85g/km and the Auris Touring Sports could become a standard for its ease of use and ownership costs. To mark the new model’s launch this spring 2013, Toyota came up with the Auris Touring Sports Black design study, providing a dynamic enhancement to the vehicle’s appearance both in the interior and in the exterior.
The design study also demonstrates how an estate/wagon body style can provide more than just functionality. Auris Touring Sports Black dons an exterior design highlighted by a new Night Sky black metallic paint finish. This is well contrasted by the red 19-inch alloy wheels, red inserts on the front and rear bumpers and a red trim on the front grille.Read the entire article Toyota unveils Auris Touring Sports Black design study

Toyota Motor Corp. is putting its focus once again on design and driving dynamics. Marking the start of this change is the new Auris hatchback, which is styled to have an angular "keen” appearance. The Auris hatchback, which is a Corolla offshoot, has an edgier look and offers better handling, due partly to a lower center of gravity, a stiffer body, more responsive steering and a double-wishbone rear suspension.
There are online reports that the Europe-Japan nameplate may be the successor to the Matrix in the U.S. The Matrix is aging and is based on the old-generation MC platform that was used on three generations of U.S.-spec Corollas.
In comparison, the second-generation Auris that had its launch last month in Japan is built on a new-generation MC platform that is used by the Corolla version available in Europe and China.Read the entire article New Toyota Auris won’t be the replacement for the Matrix in the United States
To be more competitive against rivals Hyundai and Kia, a station wagon variant of Toyota’s latest Auris compact car will be offered. The Auris wagon is the only compact wagon that Toyota will sell in Europe with a gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain. Toyota anticipates that the hybrid Auris units will make up about a third of Auris sales.
Gasoline variants and diesels will account for one third each. Toyota said that currently, 25% of compact car sales in Europe are wagons. Toyota withdrew from the segment in 2006 when the Europe-only Auris replaced the Corolla. Since then, Auris sales have not performed well against its rivals in the mainstream compact market. Majority of these rivals sell wagon alternatives.
Ian Fletcher, a senior analyst at IHS Automotive, said that providing a wide range of options for the new Auris would make it have a “fair stab” at the market compared to how the first generation performed.Read the entire article 2013 Toyota Auris Wagon to debut at the 2012 Paris Motor Show
Details about Toyota’s latest generation Auris compact hatchback have been released. Toyota is relying on this model to propel its growth in Europe. In this market, the Auris will be competing with the Volkswagen Golf and Ford Focus. It is set to debut on September 27 at the Paris auto show at the same time as the newest VW Golf.
The existing Auris received criticism because of its bland style. Toyota said that its new version has a "sharper, more distinctive styling” and will reflect Toyota’s new face. In a statement, Toyota said that the new Auris is the latest model to demonstrate Toyota's determination to build cars that have more appeal and are dynamically engaging to drive.
Just like the existing Auris, the new car will be available with gasoline, gasoline-electric hybrid and diesel powertrains. Toyota said that a third of Auris sales in Europe are expected to be hybrid versions. Toyota's factory in Burnaston plant in central England will be producing all versions. When compared to the current car, the new Auris is lower, longer and lighter.Read the entire article Toyota introduces the all-new Auris
Patent drawings of the next-generation Toyota Auris have been leaked, giving us a preview of its bold new design. The new Auris, which will be shown as a concept car by the end 2012 before its 2013 launch, is the latest model to be given a boost to its appearance as part of Toyota chief Akio Toyoda’s brief to make “more characterful models.”
Last week, images of the new Auris’s Japanese sister car, the Corolla, were seen via the internet. Toyota provided confirmation that these photos, which Autocar obtained, do not accurately show what the UK-spec car would be. These patent drawings, which were registered in Germany, are of a concept car that will soon lead to the more distinguishing Auris production car.
Toyota Europe is tasked with developing the company’s future core models for the market beginning from the Aygo to the Avensis when it comes to size. The new Yaris Hybrid is the first model to arrive from this plan.Read the entire article Leaked: Patent drawings of the next-generation Toyota Auris
Toyota will continue using the name Auris for its hatchback compact car in Europe, dispelling speculations that the Japanese car manufacturer will revert to using the name Corolla. Toyota used to call the Auris, it no. 2 best-seller in Europe, the Corolla until it dropped the name in 2007.
A Toyota spokesman confirmed to Automobilwoche, that the company will still call the model as Auris in Europe, adding that the Japanese carmaker is satisfied with the model awareness it achieved using the name.
Toyota, though, uses the Corolla name for the sedan version of the compact car being sold in the continent. The Japanese carmaker also uses the Corolla name in other markets outside Europe, including the United States.Read the entire article Toyota won’t change Auris’ name back to Corolla for European market
A Toyota vehicle, probably the Auris, will sport a BMW diesel engine in 2014, as a result of the technology-sharing deal between the two carmakers. Under the deal, BMW will share its diesel technology in exchange for Toyota’s EV battery system. Toyota, however, is not allowed to employ BMW’s diesel engines in Lexus cars.
Diesel-powered Auris is expected to boost the car’s appeal, which still lags behind Ford’s Focus and VW’s Golf. The Auris is also expected to benefit from Toyota’s Global Vision 2020 plan, which prioritizes driving dynamics and fresh styling.
The plan also gives Toyota Motor Europe greater control over the development of the Auris, Avensis and Yaris models. First to benefit from the plan is the Yaris, which uses a design language featuring a so-called ‘keen look’ front end.Read the entire article BMW diesel engine may power Toyota Auris in 2014
