2018 Toyota Land Cruiser makes its official debut at Frankfurt

2017 Frankfurt Motor Show is not just about new concepts and supercars that we have never seen before. The most common brands like Toyota, Ford and Honda also have interesting things to showcase during the event.

In this case, Toyota has finally unveiled the facelifted 2018 Land Cruiser at the IAA show, after months of bombarding us with online images. The off-roader went through a couple of obvious changes on the exterior like the redesigned front fascia. It now has a new grille with an intricate design and larger openings upfront, that makes it more effective in cooling the engine.

Naturally, it will boast the latest Toyota Safety Sense that features a pre-collision system, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and many more.

Toyota gives hints of hybrid C-HR, new Land Cruiser ahead of 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show

It is already September and we are all excited about the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, more so because automakers have been revealing previews and teasers (online) of models and concepts that will make their debut at the auto show. Today, it is Toyota that teases us with two new crossovers: the Hybrid C-HR Concept and the new Land Cruiser.

The C-HR Hy-Power Concept is a representation of possible additions for its compact crossover’s engine range. Toyota is being a tease, only providing few details about the vehicle, and that is the crossover’s license plate and lower fascia. Having said that, it makes us think that the model has been given a change in terms of design. And during a press release, the company’s spokesperson did say that the people behind Toyota’s European Design Center will give the C-HR a little bit of facelift to emphasize its emotional and powerful look, while hinting that they will be expanding the company’s hybrid powertrain line. That is all we got from the Hybrid C-HR Concept, and that’s sad because there’s still so much we want to know.

As mentioned earlier, the Japanese automaker also gave us a preview of the new Land Cruiser before it makes its debut in Frankfurt. Though they still kept their mouths sealed, they couldn’t help but share some details regarding the range-topping SUV. One thing we are certain about is that it will still be riding on a body-on-frame chassis.

Toyota Land Speed Cruiser breaks speed record for SUVs

Toyota's legendary four-wheel sport utility vehicle has been regarded as an iconic vehicle and has snatched up approval left and right over the 60 years that it has been released by the Japanese automaker. And now, Toyota Land Cruiser has added another achievement under its belt, the label of the "World's Fastest SUV". My oh my, we have a speed devil out here.

Previously at SEMA, Toyota gifted us the iconic Land Cruiser that is claiming to reach speeds of up 220 miles per hour. And the interesting part is that the we are talking about a vehicle that has an old-school body on frame model that has nearly 3 tons of 3 row seat leather seating that caters to 8 passengers. It is fitted with a 5.7 L V8 engine that can produce a whopping 381hp and has full four-wheel drive, and an $85,000 price tag. Considering its overall weight and built, we were doubtful that this SUV can go very fast, not to mention breaking speed records.

However, we were proved wrong by the Mega Land Cruiser, as it didn't only break the 220mph record. It also annihilated the 211 mph record held by a Brabus-modified Mercedes GLK V12 by completely speeding off to an impressive 230 mph. By now we are asking on how on earth did the Japanese automaker convert the normal Land Cruiser into a speeding maniac? All of these awesomeness starts with the boost. A pair of Garrett turbochargers were installed by scientists up at Toyota's Motorsports Technical Center, adding up to 55 lbs of pure boost.

Toyota reveals 6 extreme vehicles at 2016 SEMA Show [Live Photos]

When Toyota first revealed that it will be showcasing a total of 30 vehicles for the 2016 Specialty Equipment Market Association, enthusiasts could hardly contain their excitement. However what is even more thrilling is that six of these have been modified to show just how extreme Toyota’s models can go.

According to the Japanese automaker, each of these six models either honors the brand’s heritage, looks at the current state, or projects what the future will be. There are also models that appear to be a combination of these three. Since the brand will be having what can be considered as the largest exhibit in the history of the SEMA Show, it is not surprising that Toyota went on this path. Below are the six models that Toyota took a chance on and gave a number of improvements.

The first is the Swagger Wagon, which is actually the Sienna in blue. Some would call this as the height of luxury when it comes to transportation, with the best description of the Swagger Wagon being that it is similar to a flying jet. While this minivan is now wider and lower, the brand put a number of enhancements composed of carbon fiber as well as those inspired by racing. However, the interior is what makes it stand out given its use of custom-leather, capacity for wi-fi connectivity, and the inclusion of a high-end theater system. With all these on the inside, customers are likely not to concern themselves with how the exterior actually looks.

Toyota revealed that the latest version of its Ponam boat range will be a 28V sports cruiser and it will be powered by the same engine that powers the Land Cruiser.

Specifically, it will be the same 4-cylinder 3.0-liter turbo diesel engine that is fitted in the Land Cruiser Prado SUV as well as the Hilux pickup truck. However, for the Ponam-28V, the motor has been tuned to adapt it for marine use and thus, it displays an output of 256 horsepower (191 kW). While Toyota declined to reveal the actual top speed, the light weight means that it could go through the water at possibly high knots.

Since the control system is based on the same system used by cars, it makes the Ponam-28V easy to navigate in calm waters or even in coastal areas where it is originally designed to be in. Fitted to it is a virtual anchor to make sure that the boat is maintained on a fixed point.

To the delight of consumers like the miners and farmers, Toyota has launched a tougher LandCruiser 200 Series wagon. This turbo-diesel GX is ideal for those whose owners tend to use their vehicles through harsh conditions. It features vinyl floors, twin barn doors at the rear (vertically hinged), 17-inch steel wheels, a snorkel, 93-litre main and 45-litre auxiliary fuel tanks, five seats, under-body protection plates and a standard car key.

The new GX is based on the GXL variant, the spiritual successor to the 100 Series Standard Grade. Toyota fitted the new GX with features intended to raise the comfort but it would still have to be sturdy. It is equipped with a single CD player, manual air-conditioning, power windows with driver's auto up/down and power-operated exterior mirrors.

It scores high on protection since the version has the complete set of GXL safety equipment. This is crucial for drivers and for the OH&S requirements of firms that operate fleets. This means that this vehicle comes with driver and front-passenger airbags, curtain-shield airbags, vehicle stability control, active traction control, hill-start assist, multi-terrain anti-skid brakes and Toyota CRAWL, which functions as an off-road cruise-control system.

Toyota Land Cruiser turns 60 in 2011 and to celebrate this landmark, Toyota is launching new top-of-the-range 60th Anniversary versions of both its standard five-door Land Cruiser and the flagship Land Cruiser V8.

The 4x4 Land Cruiser is still one of the toughest machines on four wheels: it has crossed deserts, conquered the Arctic and Antarctic wastelands, passed through tropical rain forests and generally taken the worst the world can throw at it in its stride.

The 60th Anniversary variants have the same robust construction and sophisticated array of driving and control systems for exceptional on and off-road performance as their established sister models, together with some extra style and equipment details.
