A global scale ransomware cyber-attack has caused several factories of Renault-Nissan Alliance to stop production on Saturday. According to Automotive News, the company’s spokesperson said they have administered “proactive measures” which led to the temporary shutdown of certain production sites. Reuters however confirmed the next day that regular work is slated to resume on Monday particularly in France.
Over the weekend, thousands of computers have been infected with WannaCry ransomware, spreading to almost one hundred countries worldwide. The French carmaker has particularly shut down its Sandouville plant in Northwestern France following the attack. The first sign of threat in Renault’s Sandouville factory occurred when the assembly line’s alarm didn’t work on Saturday. This happened shortly after a ransom demand appeared on their monitors.
Renault-Nissan failed to give a full list of the affected sites but a spokesperson from the UK said that files in Nissan’s Sunderland factory were hit on Friday evening. It didn’t however confirm if the Sunderland plant was shut down afterwards. The UK production facility has about 7,000 employees which manufactures the Infiniti Q30 and QX30, the Nissan Juke, Note, Qashqai and Nissan Leaf. In any case, Renault reassures that almost all factories will be opening today.Read the entire article Ransomware cyber-attack affects Renault’s production in France and the UK

The UK government is finalizing the details of a new light-vehicle category that enables 16-year-olds to drive without a license. Renault is preparing to launch a 28mph-max Twizy 45 in the UK in 2013 to benefit from this new rule. According to Andy Heiron, the EV program chief at Renault UK, the new type-approval category would begin in January 2013.
It includes quadricycles that have a limited 28mph top speed and have a lower weight than 350kg unladen. Heiron said that before the new rule could be implemented, a basic practical and theory test has to be conducted and the issue of insurance has to be resolved too.
Heiron said that insurance companies have so far given estimates that drivers younger than 18 may have to pay premiums of as high as £4000 but this figure declines significantly with age. In the UK, the Twizy 45 will be priced at around £6200.Read the entire article Renault to introduce a driving licence-free Twizy in the UK in 2013

During the 2016 Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix, Renault surprised us with an unusual turbocharged 2.0 liter engine of the previous generation Megane RS inside the Clio R.S. 16 concept. After debuting the said model, Patrice Ratti, Renault Sports Cars General Manager, said that Renault had actually been considering a small batch of road going models, and that he is just waiting for the approval of the executives.
The sad part is that his plan never pushed through, and it seems like it won’t happen again this generation because it is a bit too late considering that the new Clio will debut this fall.
What we can look forward to though is the Clio RS’s next iteration with a Megane RS engine that Renault is currently working on. According to automotive blog Caradisiac, they have been hearing rumours that the new flagship version of the supermini will borrow the automaker’s new turbocharged four cylinder 1.8 liter engine. Not only is this engine in the Megane RS, as it is also in the Alpine A110.Read the entire article Upcoming Renault Clio RS might get Megane RS turbocharged 4-cylinder 1.8-liter engine

It’s Star Wars fever once again, and the second installation of the trilogy sequel -- “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” -- is finally hitting theaters. Avid fans of the franchise would love to know that a limited edition Renault Zoe will soon arrive with Star Wars special touches. In partnership with Star Wars, Renault is unleashing the force with the new 2018 Renault Zoe Star Wars Limited Edition electric vehicle.
Just like Anakin Skywalker and Ben Solo becoming Darth Vader and Kylo Ren, respectively, the best-selling EV in Europe has transformed into the Renault Zoe Star Wars special edition. Interestingly, the Zoe Star Wars isn't the first vehicle from the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance to use the force. Just last year, Nissan’s mid-size crossover merged into the world of the Jedi by becoming the Nissan Rogue: Rogue One Star Wars limited edition. That marked the first time that a carmaker officially partnered with the Star Wars franchise. The partnership now continues, but with Nissan’s alliance partner Renault.
To enter the world of the Jedi, the Renault Zoe Star Wars features an exterior covered with a number of decals related to the franchise. For instance, the bonnet, roof and boot of the Renault Zoe Star Wars sport decals starring Han Solo’s Millennium Falcon star ship. Specific Star Wars badging can be found on the front fenders just below the A-pillar, as well as on the door sills.Read the entire article Renault now accepts pre-orders for Zoe Star Wars Limited Edition
