Audi R8 V10 RWS is coming to the US at starting price of $139,950

Audi opened the order books for the Audi R8 V10 RWS ((Rear Wheel Series) in fall 2017 in Europe, with the model already arriving in dealership earlier this year. At the time it was unveiled, it was still unsure whether Audi is bring the new R8 V10 RWS to the United States. Now, the premium carmaker is indeed bringing the R8 V10 RWS, at a hefty starting price of $139,950 each, Motor Trend says citing its own source.

At this pricing, the Audi R8 V10 RWS – the carmaker’s first-ever production and street-legal rear-wheel-drive R8 model – is around $26,000 cheaper than the Quattro model. However, those who are interested in acquiring this edition of the R8 should remain always alert as to when it would arrive in the US, because only 320 examples are allocated for this market. While Audi didn’t give an official date for the arrival of the R8 V10 RWS in the US, it is expected that this would occur in the last quarter of the year.

The German carmaker only needed to get rid of the Quattro all-wheel-drive system to pave way to the RWD layout, thereby giving birth to the R8 V10 RWS. However, its powerful naturally aspirated V10 remains the same. The removal of the Quattro allowed the R8 V10 RWS to trim its weight by as much as 50 kg (110 pounds) for the Coupe model, and around 40 kg (88 lbs.) for the Spyder variant.

Audi’s US lineup will include RS5 Sportback and Coupe

Scott Keogh, President of Audi of America, said in his interview with Roadshow that the United States market will again be able to get their hands on a RS5 Sportback that will soon join the RS5 Coupe. It took a while for the automaker to mention the existence of a range-topping variant of the stylish four door. Information on its availability in different regions has also not been divulged yet.

But that is not all. In fact, Keogh mentioned that they have another surprise that they are working on, though he stopped himself from saying further and did not reveal what it was. Instead, he teased us by saying that there is a cool European model that they have not brought in to the United States just yet, and that he considers it to be his number one car, and they perhaps they will get it. But to date, he did not confirm any of these reports.

If you analyze what Keogh said even further, there are a number of possibilities for this. Keogh could be referring to an RS4 Avant, depending on the timeframe he has in mind. That is because the said model is already ready right now and that it only needs an executive to sign off so it could already be added to the US lineup. The only problem here is that it might take 25 more years for this model to become eligible for US import.

2018 Audi Q3 will receive Competition Package, Sport trim in the United States

The Audi Q3, also known as the smallest crossover option in the United States, is getting a new upgrade, with an overall sportier look. This is because the automaker will introduce a new Sport trim to the lineup next year. Though it is a “Sport” trim, do not expect it to perform better because the sporty upgrades are only limited to the exterior. Having said that, it focuses more on convenience features and styling.

For those who are interested, the 2018 Audi Q3 Sport Premium can be had for $34,875 (including $975 destination fee). That makes it $1,000 more expensive than the standard Q3. You are probably wondering what upgrades you will get with the additional $1000. Well, this trim includes new exterior treatments like 19-inch 10-spoke wheels and brushed matte aluminum inlays. This goes with a power tailgate, mirrors that automatically dim, and proximity key with the $1,350 Convenience Package equipped.

The higher trim, which is the Sport Premium Plus, on the other hand, costs a little more at $36,775 for 2018. If you will include the optional technology package, that will cost you an extra $1,200. This trim features a Bose audio system and other fancy things. And for those who would like to go for the sporty luxury option, there is the range-topping S Line Competition Package that comes loaded with features as well as blacked out design touches. But naturally, this costs a little more too.

There has been a noticeable price hike for the 2018 Audi A3 E-Tron

A couple of days ago, Audi announced an update in terms of the pricing of their 2018 lineup. With the price increase, several models will have more features as standard equipment while there will be more models that will have sportier interior and exterior design packages.

The Audi A3 Sportback E-Tron had always been a successful model since it was first released in the United States. Sales charts of the said model from January 2016 up until March this year indicate that the model is doing well. In fact, the model made up around 13 percent of all Audi A3 sales in its first eight months, and by last December, the percentage went up to 20 percent.

The 2017 model was first sold with a price tag of $37,900, and it soon increased to $38,900. And naturally, there will be a price increase for the 2018 year model, with the Premium trim at $39,500, the Premium Plus at $42,600, and $48,100 for the range-topping Prestige. That is about $600 to $1,300 more than the previous model.

A year after Audi unveiled the new generation of the Audi TT RS, the German premium carmaker is now bringing the most powerful road-going TT to the United States in spring 2017 at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $64,900 (excluding destination charge of $975, taxes, title, options, and dealer charges). But before the big sale comes, Audi is unveiling the new 2018 Audi TT RS to the American public at the 2017 New York Auto Show.

The highly potent Audi TT RS will be powered by a new aluminum five-cylinder TFSI engine that while having the same capacity of 2,480 cc (2.5 liters) as its predecessor, is able to provide higher output and performance. Featuring lightweight construction made from aluminum, this new 2.5-liter TFSI engine boasts of lower internal friction and higher power delivery. In fact, it could deliver up to 400 hp of output, or around 17 percent (60 hp) output more than its predecessor. It could also deliver up to 354 lb.-ft. (480 Nm) of peak torque available between 1,700 and 5,850 rpm.

With these power specs, this new 2.5-liter turbo engine enables the new TT RS to sprint from zero to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds, although its top speed is restricted at 155 mph (250 km/h). This limitation on the top speed is lifted to 174 mph (280 km/h) when the optional Dynamic plus package is availed. Power from this dynamic engine is sent via a quick-shifting seven-speed S tronic transmission to the quattro permanent all-wheel drive. This quattro permanent all-wheel drive features a multi-plate clutch that could distribute the power spontaneously between the axles, which means that the new Audi TT RS gets stronger grip while delivering more driving pleasure. Drivers could somewhat have control over some elements through Audi drive select system, which enables for four drive modes: comfort, auto, dynamic, and individual.

After all, you would need at least $51,875 ($50,900 Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price for the Premium Plus trim plus $975 destination charge) to be able to own one of the upcoming Audi S4 units.

Helping emphasize the performance dynamics of the new S4 are its powerful wheel arches as accentuated by sedan’s wrap-around lines. If you are living in the United States and you’re raring to own a 2017 Audi R8 V10 Spyder, then you should prepare at least $176,350 ($175,100 in retail price plus tax, title, and registration) to have a piece of this splendid roadster from the German premium carmaker.

At this pricing, the 2017 Audi R8 V10 Spyder would be between $20,000 and $30,000 more expensive than a comparable rival -- the upcoming Mercedes-AMG GT -- in terms of power. It is also around $10,000 more expensive than the base version of the 2017 Audi R8 V10 coupe. Compared to the previous model, the 2017 Audi R8 Spyder -- at 4,426 mm (14.5 feet) in length and 1,940 mm (6.4 feet) in width -- is around 14 mm (0.6 in) shorter and around 36 mm (1.4 inches) wider than its predecessor. Its height and wheelbase, however, are still the same at 1,244 mm (4.1 feet) and 2,650 mm (8.7 feet), respectively.

The front end of the 2017 Audi R8 V10 Spyder is distinguished by a large yet low-height Audi Singleframe. Its honeycomb radiator grille is connected to the wedge-shaped headlights through sculptural surfaces. As standard, the headlights feature 37 LED units, although laser lighting – as marked by a blue anodized strip -- is offered as an option.

Hatchback enthusiasts are likely to be delighted with the news that Audi will finally be releasing to the U.S. market the 2018 A5 Sportback, which is the five-door version of the A5 coupe. That is not all as the brand will also be releasing the 2018 S5 Sportback. While price details have yet to be officially revealed, Audi says it will release these two models by spring.

There is however at least one difference in that while the U.S. market will indeed be getting a hatchback, it will not have the same powertrain options being made available in Europe. For the models offered in the European market, customers have the chance to select between diesel engines and gas-powered ones. They can even choose between the automatic transmission, which is standard, and the manual offered as an option. However for the U.S., only two engines will be offered and both are paired to automatic transmissions.

Specifically for the A5 Sportback, it will be powered with the same 4-cylinder turbocharged engine inside the A4 Sedan, A5 Coupe, and A5 Convertible. The engine has an output at 252 hp with peak torque coming in at 273 lb.-ft. It is paired to the automatic dual-clutch seven-speed transmission. This allows the A5 Sportback to be almost as fast as its two-door counterpart with acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds. Meanwhile the S5 Sportback has the turbocharged V6 engine capable of 354 hp with top torque of 369 lb.-ft., and paired to the standard automatic 8-speed transmission. With this, the S5 Sportback can go from zero to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds.

Starting early 2017, the new Audi Q7 will be available with the new 2.0-liter TFSI four-cylinder engine that makes it not only faster but also lighter and more efficient than the 3.0T-powered Q7 of the previous generation. Aside from better fuel efficiency, this new powertrain would mean savings of a few thousand dollars from the price tag of the new 2017 Audi Q7. The 2017 Audi Q7 2.0 T Quattro starts at $49,000 for the Premium trim and at $53,000 for the Premium Plus level.

This new turbocharged 2.0T engine provides up to 252 hp of output available between 5,000 rpm and 6,000 rpm, and up to 273 lb-ft of torque available between 1,600 rpm and 4,500 rpm. The four-cylinder engine is mated to the eight-speed Tiptronic transmission with quattro all-wheel drive.

Compared to the previous generation 2015 Audi Q7 3.0T V6 model, the 2017 Audi Q7 2.0T could reach the speed of 60 mph (from standstill) around half a second faster while delivering 22 percent better fuel efficiency. In fact, the new 2017 Audi Q7 2.0T is expected to boast an EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of 22 mpg city/highway and combined.

German premium carmaker Audi is reportedly planning to buy back around 25,000 Audi Q7 SUVs powered by its 3.0-liter V6 TDI engine in the United States. The buyback should compensate owners in the US who bought Audi Q7s that failed to comply with exhaust emission standards.

According to a report by Der Spiegel, representatives from the German carmaker are currently holding discussions with authorities in the US about fixing 85,000 Audi vehicles powered by the emissions-cheating 3.0-liter V6 TDI engine. During preliminary discussions, it has been revealed that around 25,000 older generation cars from Audi cannot be fixed to make them fully compliant with pollution regulations. As such, Audi needs to buy them back.

Vehicles powered by the said 3.0-liter V6 TDI engine in the US include: VW Touareg (model years 2009-2016), Porsche Cayenne (MY 2013-2016), Audi A6 (MY 2014-2016), Audi A7 (MY 2014-2016), Audi A8, including the A8L (MY 2014-2016), Audi Q5 (MY 2014-2016), and Audi Q7 (MY 2009-2016). Initially, the US Environmental Protection Agency released a violation order for vehicles powered by this powerplant covering 2014-2016 model years.

BMW tumbled to the third spot in the luxury vehicle sales race last month as Mercedes-Benz is getting closer to unseat Audi from its glorious throne in the industry. BMW's global sales jumped only 7.50 percent to 133,883 units last month, totally lagging behind Mercedes-Benz.

The latter's global sales in January rose 20 percent to 150,184 units. While Audi reported the slowest growth among the three luxury car brands with a four percent increase, it still topped BMW with a total of 143,150 units. The reports indicate the shifting of fortune among the three brands.

After lagging behind the competition for a few years, Mercedes-Benz is back in the game after parent company Daimler overhauled its roster. Moreover, all-new SUVs such as the GLE are helping the brand re-establish its glory and offset the losses that may result from the economic woes in China, the world's largest consumer of automobiles.

Last month, Volkswagen reported that its sales in the US tumbled 15 percent, posting its third consecutive monthly decline. Audi, on the other hand, posted its 61st consecutive monthly sales record in the US. Volkswagen suffered heavily as January sales plunged to 20,079 units, its weakest month over the last five years.

The company continues to battle with the recent emission scandals as an earlier plan was recently rejected by the California Air Resources Board. Its 2016 diesels remain grounded. Volkswagen America Chief Operating Officer (COO) Mark McNabb referred to the recent sales report as "the seasonal nature of the fleet business.”

According to McNaab, the retail business of Volkswagen dealers surged last month despite the winter storm that affected the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic during the said period. However, Volkswagen refused to disclose a breakdown between retail and fleet. Fleet sales, accordingly, plunged significantly.
