The Opel and Vauxhall brands managed to hike their market share in Europe in 2013, thanks to the good demand for the new Adam minicar that helped offset a slumping auto market. Opel and sister brand Vauxhall logged a European market share of 5.61 percent in 2013, up from 5.59 percent in 2012, Opel has disclosed, citing preliminary sales figures.
In its home market Germany, Opel managed to increase its market share to 7.0 percent from 6.9 percent. The slight increase in market share comes despite the still slumping sales in Europe, where the vehicle market is expected to have shrunk by 25 percent, or 4.3 million vehicles, in 2013 compared 2007 levels, analysts at Moody's Investors Service said.
European auto industry association ACEA will publish European car registration figures for 2013 on Jan. 16, 2014. Peter Christian Kuespert, Opel's vice president of sales and aftersales, remarked that the new Adam had helped boost deliveries, saying that its sales surpassed expectations.Read the entire article Opel, Vauxhall log slight hike in European market share thanks to new Adam
The new Vauxhall VXR8 GTS is bound to make its premiere at the Performance Car Show alongside Autosport International in January 2014. Derived from the HSV GEN-F GTS, the VXR8 GTS is the considered as the most powerful production car built in Australia. The Vauxhall VXR8 GTS enters the United Kingdom market with virtually more power than key rivals like the BMW M5 and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG.
The Vauxhall VXR8 GTS gets its dynamic power from a new supercharged LSA V8 that provides up to 576bhp of output and 545lb ft of torque – representing an increase of 150bhp and 140lb ft respectively over the outgoing, LS3-engined VXR8. This newfound power allows the GTS to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds and up to a limited top speed of 155 mph.
To better suit the GTS for the extra power brought by the new engine, it was fitted with a Brake-Torque Vectoring system that applies braking to the inside rear wheel and transfers torque to the outside rear wheel, thereby reducing understeer during high-speed maneuvers.Read the entire article Vauxhall VXR8 GTS to debut at Performance Car Show next month
Vauxhall is awaiting confirmation from the FIA and MSA that it was successful in its attempt to get a total of 12 World and six National Speed Endurance Records using a standard production Astra. On October 5, just a little past 4pm, the first of two Vauxhall Astra 2.0 CDTi hatches arrived on the starting line on Millbrook Proving Ground’s High Speed Bowl.
Astras came back 24 hours later after covering nearly 3,000 miles at an average, yet-to-be ratified, speed of 125mph. The Astras were driven by 12 drivers -- nine motoring journalists and three Vauxhall and Opel staff -- each driving a total of four hours, split between the two cars.
The Astras were required to change tires once, and no engine oil was consumed. The Astras completed 1,500 laps of the two-mile circuit with only 22 minutes of downtime, in addition to refueling and driver changes.Read the entire article Vauxhall awaits confirmation of endurance records for production Astra
The Vauxhall VXR8 GTS super-saloon will feature BWI Group’s third-generation MagneRide suspension that mixes in track-day handling with road-car comfort. The Magnetic Ride Control system of the Vauxhall VXR8 GTS uses MagneRide suspension, which features Magneto Rheological (MR) damper fluid that contains tiny iron particles that can be temporarily magnetized by energizing electrical coils in the damper piston.
Applying a current magnetizes the tiny iron particles, making them attracted to each other in proportion to the strength of the magnetic field. This leads to an increase in the resistance to flow and stiffens the damping.
This provides the ability to vary the damping force almost instantaneously, just by varying the current applied. The twin-wire dual-coil (TWDC) MagneRide units adjust their damping 1,000 times per second to provide the optimum control and response in any driving condition.Read the entire article Vauxhall VXR8 GTS is now riding on MagneRide suspension

Ever heard of a three-cylinder petrol engine which noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) characteristics is at par or even better than a four-cylinder powerplant? Here comes Opel/Vauxhall’s SGE (small gasoline engine), a 1.0-liter spark ignition direct injection (SIDI) turbo petrol that the carmaker intends to unveil next month at the Frankfurt International Motor Show.

General Motors said last Thursday that its first-quarter pretax loss in Europe decreased to $175 million from $294 million the previous year. This prompted analysts to state that while GM is making advancements in its plan to restructure its struggling Opel/Vauxhall unit in Europe, it still has much to do. GM is outperforming Ford Motor Co., which reported that its pretax operating loss in Europe for the quarter steeply grew to $462 million from $149 million the prior year.
GM was able to reduce costs in Europe by $300 million. As a result, the prices of its models were not changed. The figures in Europe imply that GM's cost cuts are beginning to offset the decreasing sales throughout the industry, which are nearing its lowest levels for the past 20 years. Chief Financial Officer Dan Ammann told reporters that the results in the first quarter are the result of the implementation of its plan for Europe.
Ammann said that GM is staying with its target of breaking even in Europe by the middle of the decade. However, he said that there are no signs that the region is facing a quick turnaround. He said that at this point, it’s too early to declare that Europe has hit bottom. He said that there are some things that the company is unable to control.Read the entire article GM making progress in restructuring its money-losing Opel/Vauxhall unit in Europe
Vauxhall has added the highly advanced, sequential twin-turbo diesel technology to the Zafira Tourer range. It comes after the arrival of the Astra and Insignia BiTurbo models. The Zafira Tourer BiTurbo is powered by 2.0-litre 195PS diesel engine. It can achieve a top speed of 135mph and can accelerate from zero to 60mph in only 8.5 seconds, making it one of the fastest diesel-powered, seven-seat MPVs available in the market.
In addition, start/Stop technology helps the BiTurbo attain a combined fuel economy figure of only 50.4mpg and has a CO2 emissions level of 149g/km. This sequential BiTurbo technology offers an impressive power output, an immediate throttle response and outstanding pulling power from a wide torque plateau. It broadens the powertrain lineup for the Zafira Tourer, comprising four diesel and two petrol engines.
Zafira Tourer BiTurbo is offered in SE, SRi or Elite trims with a host of options such as FlexRide adaptive chassis control system, AFL adaptive forward lighting system and a panoramic windscreen that lends natural light to the cabin. The additional flexibility inside the Zafira Tourer is offered by the new generation Flex7 seating system, which includes the distinctive lounge seating functionality that offers passengers generous space in the second row.Read the entire article Vauxhall Zafira Tourer gets new biturbo diesel engine
More than three years after its launch in 2009, the seventh-generation Vauxhall Astra remains one of the very popular models in the United Kingdom. It still also offers a great value for customers’ money as the model is improving each year that it is placed on sale. Vauxhall Astra comes with a great quality finish and carries fascinating looks that draws people in.
Opel Astra boasts a number of features that allow it to provide enjoyable and comfortable ride and safe handling. However, the Astra posed not quite a challenge to other vehicles in its own segment and class, such as the Ford Focus VW Golf and Kia Cee'd. Despite that, the Astra continues to offer value to customers who want to experience a good ride.
Astra is available in several engine options, including the 2012-released 1.7 CDTi Ecoflex diesel engine that provides up to 130bhp of output while emitting just 99 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer traveled. Customers, however, should not expect to achieve the same fuel economy figures during actual driving, since some tests have shown that the engine may not live up to its promised numbers.Read the entire article 7th-generation Vauxhall Astra remains popular with its money-saving deals
