The strategic partnership between Volvo Cars and Siemens has finally bore fruit in the form of the new Volvo C30 fully electric cars. The Volvo C30s deliver on the carmaker’s commitment to electrification by improving acceleration and customer flexibility. The Volvo C30 could accelerate from zero to 70 km/h in just 5.9 seconds and achieve full recharge in just 1.5 hours.
This acceleration is attributed to the new Siemens motor that provides up to 89 kW (120 hp) of output and 250 Nm of torque. Starting summer 2013, European leasing customers could drive and assess an upgraded demo fleet of 100 Volvo C30s.
Lennart Stegland, Vice President Electric Propulsion Systems, Volvo Car Group, remarked that the C30’s innovative fast charging solution will radically improve its time and mileage.Read the entire article New Volvo C30 electric cars offer faster acceleration and charging

Volvo Cars, just like on all its other models, has exposed its Volvo C30 Electric to extreme winter conditions to guarantee that the battery-powered car still runs smoothly in temperatures as low as -20° Celsius. Over 200 different test methods have been performed for the electric vehicles.
Lennard Stegland, Volvo Cars’ Special Vehicles director, said the company must ensure that the C30 Electric performs as intended when driving, parking and charging in various conditions, from normal to very cold or hot. He added that Northern Sweden is the ideal place to conduct testing in sub-zero temperatures.

The FIA World Touring Car Championship 2011 season is launched this weekend at Curitiba, Brazil, signaling the start of evaluation season for Polestar Racing. In 2010, Volvo Car Corporation gave Polestar Racing the green light to launch a one-car program for the WTCC 2011 as a commercial and technical evaluation ahead of 2012. Christian Dahl, Managing Director of Polestar Racing, said that Polestar is initially not focusing on results but rather on preparing a base that it could build on for 2012.
The Polestar Racing-prepared Volvo C30 DRIVe is a proven winner with victories in the Scandinavian and Swedish Touring Car Championships.
However, development work and new engine regulations are needed for the new WTCC tracks. Dahl said they are starting the season with the current two liter engine, before switching to an all-new 1.6 turbo engine later in 2011, based on an entirely new Volvo engine family.Read the entire article Polestar Volvo C30 to make its debut in the WTCC at Curitiba in Brazil

Volvo Cars unveiled the latest next-generation vehicle -- the Volvo C30 -- during the Detroit Motor Show held in January 2010. This battery and electric powered model was first displayed in 2009, showing the brand’s current development process when it comes to an electric prototype that could be driven. The C30 has a new battery that has better packaging, with full instrumentation, and complete interior.
The C30 is electric but it has several similarities with the standard Volvo C30. It has four seats and offers the same features in terms of comfort, safety, and space. According to Lennart Stegland, who is Director of Volvo Cars Special Vehicles, the first prototype ensured that the brand would be able to determine what the technological challenges were, especially on safety issues and battery packaging. Stegland related that they have managed to address these different challenges without the need to compromise the C30’s personality.
The electric version of the C30 presented during the show is therefore a complete product, Stegland added. The next phase involved conducting a series of tests on the factory-built versions. The company selected different users that got the chance to drive Volvo’s test fleet for a two-year trial period that started in 2011. The purpose was to be able to gain the needed input in both the technical aspect and the behavioural aspect too.Read the entire article Volvo will launch its full-electric C30 in early 2011

The car has no gears and the driver can access full power right away. Its lithium ion batteries can either be charged in a household socket or at a roadside station. For a full charge, the car has to be plugged in for eight hours.Read the entire article 2010 Detroit Auto Show: Volvo C30 EV (Electric Vehicle)
There's still no consensus on quick-charging standards but definitely, Volvo Car Corp. is rethinking its initial plan for the batteries of the electric Volvo C30 to charge for 6-8 hours overnight. Volvo had previously stated that it doesn´t require the C30's batteries to be capable of quick charging in three hours or less. For now, Volvo will market the C30 EV only in Europe.
The European Union has yet to agree on quick-charging standards but for the time being, the volume is all for Europe," Lennart Stegland, president of Volvo's Special Vehicles unit, said at a media briefing last January at the EnerDel plant, which will produce the batteries for the C30.
Stegland admitted that the „business case is not obvious" for electric vehicles. Stegland said that in trying to determine the potential market, there's more uncertainty with more research. Nonetheless, the regulatory case is much clearer.Read the entire article Electric Volvo C30 not coming in the United States… for now!

Mediocrity and green doesn´t have to be together always. But with R-Design, the Volvo C30, S40 and V50 DRIVe can be styled just as dramatically and completely like other model versions.
This is in response to significant demand for vehicles that merge good eco features with thrilling design elements. The continuous optimization of the drivelines of the cars has made this development possible.
All the models satisfactorily pass the 120g CO2/km limit (which is 119g for all three models) even without the preceding external revisions intended to lower air drag, including unique body and underbody panels and air spoilers.Read the entire article Volvo C30, S40 and V50 DRIVe receive some R-Design ‘attention’
