Today, Volvo has a pretty complete range of new SUVs. These models vary from the largest XC90 to the smallest model which is the XC40. At the top of the range is the S90 along with the V90. Now, it is time for them to update the smaller cars in its lineup, and we mean their sedans and crossovers. In fact, the company is already testing for the new S60 and V60, and according to Auto Express, Volvo executives exactly know what they want from the new V40.
Starting with the V40 hatchback, the next generation model will now sit on a CMA (Compact Modular Architecture) platform just like that of the XC40. They will be built on the same wheelbase too. Apart from that, Volvo thinks that both vehicles can share a number of components, such as their powertrains and infotainment systems.
When Volvo launches the V40, it will initially be equipped with a 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder. Aside from this, a plug-in hybrid may be available from the beginning too, if not later on towards its life cycle. In Europe, a diesel option will be available too following a fully electric version later on.Read the entire article Next Volvo V40 will get two battery options for the EV

Volvo is planning to expand its lineup of Polestar models and according to the latest rumors the Swedish manufacturer is currently deciding if it will work on the V40 or the XC60. Volvo already offers the Polestar S60 sedan and V60 estate models but wants to improve sales of its high-performance offerings.
Previous reports said that Volvo was planning a V40 Polestar but according to company’s powertrain boss Derek Crabb this is not true. Why? Because each of the individual markets want a different model such as a V40, XC60 or S60.
Still, the company considers that it can’t do it commercially and needs to rationalize that. If the current Polestar models from Volvo are powered by a six-cylinder engines that develops 350 hp, the upcoming models will get a high-performance version of the four-cylinder Drive-E powerplant.Read the entire article Volvo XC60, V40 models next in line for Polestar versions
We already know that Ford is working hard on the next-generation Focus RS that will rival the Audi RS3 Sportback and the Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG. Still, the mentioned vehicles will have a new rival as Volvo is considering a Polestar version of the V40. According to Auto Express, the V40 Polestar will use the new 2.0-liter four-cylinder supercharged and turbocharged Drive-E engine that will power the upcoming Volvo XC90 ‘Twin Engine’ T8 Hybrid.
On the SUV, the new petrol engine is combined with an electric motor that delivers 80 hp, while the total output of the hybrid system is around 400 hp.
The 2.0-liter petrol engine is expected to develop on the V40 Polestar around 315 hp, which means it will be able to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in under 6.0 seconds and reach a top speed of 250 km/h or 155 mph.Read the entire article Volvo considering a Polestar version of the V40
After over a year of pressuring Volvo Cars' executives in Sweden to reverse a decision not to offer the Volvo V60 in the United States, the carmaker's American sales unit finally got its wish. The Volvo V60 will come to the US starting January 2014. But Volvo Cars of North America won't stop at V60, and will also push for the smaller V40 five-door.
Tassos Panas, head of marketing and product development at Volvo Cars of North America, remarked that he will spend 2014 lobbying for the V40 too. He remarked that the V40 "is a great small vehicle," and they would love to have it offered in the US. He added that although the V40 is not currently in their plan, it would not stop him from making it a reality.
Panas, however, has to deal with one significant problem -- the V40, which went on sale in Europe in 2012, is not approved in the US. The V40 replaced the V50 station wagon and S40 sedan in Volvo's lineup for Europe, targeting the BMW 1 series and the Audi A3.Read the entire article Volvo V60 to be sold in the US, V40 might be next

Volvo’s all-new V40 model passed the European NCAP collision test, setting a record on this crash safety test. The Swedish company has always prided itself on its reputation for safety. Volvo’s S60 model got the top rating in the new IIHS crash test. The V40 now holds the record for best-ever overall results recorded on the Euro NCAP test.

Volvo is launching versions of the V40 hatchback that are expected to help restore the automaker’s reputation for producing top-performing vehicles. At the end of 2011, a 254hp T5 version of the new V40 hatchback will be launched. Volvo had once been the favorite of fast-barge fans for the T5 & R versions of the 850 and V70. The T5 shares a lot of its underpinnings with the front-drive Focus ST.
Then Volvo will provide an all-wheel-drive version of the V40 T5 together with the front-drive model. As a result, the AWD model will form the basis of a more exciting V40 from Polestar, Volvo's tuning division.
According to Volvo's UK managing director Nick Connor, the V40 Polestar would require a minimum of 10% higher power than the T5, placing its output at 280hp.Read the entire article Volvo V40 Polestar in the works
Volvo is now back, and this time, the carmaker has transformed into a high-volume premium brand. Now owned by China's Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, Volvo is attempting to compete against other carmakers in the high-volume segment like Audi with its A3 model and BMW with its 1 series line-up by introducing its first high-volume premium car -- the five-door V40 compact hatchback.
Volvo unveiled the V40 at the Geneva Auto show in March and is building it using a platform supplied by Ford Motor Co., its former parent. The V40 is expected to replace the V50 station and S40 saloon.
Volvo has used "V" as a designation for its wagon products, but the letter in V40 is used to mean another thing as planned by the company's marketing executives -- "versatility." The V40 uses the same 60/40 rear seat configuration like other hatchbacks that could be folded down to create a flat cargo area. Despite that, Volvo wants the V40 to stand out among other hatchbacks, at least in terms of safety technology.Read the entire article Volvo ventures into high-volume premium market with new V40
Volvo is equipping the first pedestrian airbag in the world as a standard in its all-new V40, as the automaker aims to ensure that nobody gets injured or killed in a new Volvo by 2020. The automaker is a strategic partner of the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety (PACTS). In addition, the new Pedestrian Airbag will also aid in further lowering the number of fatalities involving pedestrians, currently 14% in the European region and 25% in China.
There are 1.3 million people killed annually on roads all over the globe. If this number, there are 24,510 individuals killed or seriously injured in the United Kingdom.Read the entire article Pedestrian Airbag Technology to be offered as standard in all-new Volvo V40
Just as order books open, the brand new Volvo V40 gets wide acceptance in the fleet industry especially by future value guides and leasing companies. Residual values, desirability and demand for this latest five-door hatchback are forecasted as being strong. According to National Corporate Operations Manager Selwyn Cooper at Volvo Car UK, the vehicle relies more on fleet advice and feedback in the last six to twelve months before its launch.
He further stated that this is the most important vehicle that the company has introduced in the past 20 years. Much of the design, technology and specification of Volvo's new hatchback are developed with the "company motorist in mind," he added.

The first pedestrian airbag ever was displayed by Volvo on the V40 five-door hatchback at the Geneva Auto Show. The Volvo V40, which replaces the Volvo C30, is the first model designed by Volvo under owner Zhejiang Geely Holding Group of China. It can be recalled that Geely acquired the automaker from Ford for $1.8 billion a couple of years ago in what’s considered as the largest overseas acquisition by a Chinese automaker.
The car features an airbag that would eject from the hood after an impact in order to protect pedestrians from injury. Volvo is relying on these innovations to improve its safety image and help it double global sales.
This May, production of the Volvo V40 will start. It aims to achieve annual sales of 90,000, primarily in Europe, where the demand is highest for small cars in big urban areas. U.S. consumers should know that this won’t be offered in their country.Read the entire article 2013 Volvo V40 shows the first pedestrian airbag
Volvo is looking forward to the launch of the newest addition to its fleet, the Volvo V40 five-door hatchback, at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. The carmaker wants Volvo V40 to compete against the dominant players in the premium hatchback class – the BMW 1-series and Audi A3. Volvo created the V40 as the replacement for the outgoing S40 and V50 models, which would soon see its last days of production to give way to the new model’s assembly at the company’s Ghent plant in Belgium.

How the new Volvo V40 looks isn’t such a big secret now that several pictures of the model, including the interior, were leaked out. The pictures show that the five-door V40 derived styling cues from its sister vehicle Volvo XC60 SUV, most notably the front and rear light cluster designs. The Volvo V40 also mirrors the profile of the SUV, although it is smaller.
The V40 is expected to be the first vehicle to be endowed with the company’s new range of modular four-cylinder VEA (Volvo Environmental Architecture) engines, which could carry no more than 2.0 litres of fuel.
According to Autocar, Volvo will market the V40 to young, active families and will be marked as premium product within the VW Golf class. The all-new Volvo V40 is finally unveiled in all its glory by Polish magazine Motodziennik before its scheduled launch. The information that we have about this hatchback model had previously only come from teasers and leaks. Its official debut will be at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Just last week, a Swedish magazine displayed leaked images of the V40.
The teaser shown at Volvo’s Facebook page gave away a lot of details as the shadows were removed. The magazine highlights the familial Volvo DNA on the V40, with its hexagonal grille, swept back headlamps, flowing hips, a rising belt line, and full-height hockey-stick taillights.
At the rear, the V40 has a hatch that’s built mostly from glass, reminiscent of the petite C30. Volvo said that the V40 won’t be offered in the U.S. but this isn’t unexpected when you consider that the brand has phased out the poor-selling V50 wagon in the U.S.Read the entire article Leaked: 2013 Volvo V40
