As we know, Volvo will be holding the 2017/18 Volvo Ocean Race soon. And to celebrate the start of this event, the Geely-owned luxury automaker prepared an eco-friendly special edition V90 Cross Country rugged wagon. This unique vehicle was made by the automaker’s Special Vehicles department, in a bid to fight marine pollution. Parts of the car like the carpet inlays were made from manufactured fabric called Econyl - made from 100 percent recycled nylon. And believe it or not, the luxurious cabin was actually made from fishing nets that had been abandoned and extracted from the seabed.
What makes it different from a standard V90 Cross Country are the colour accents that it will come with. One will notice a combination of matte grey and bright orange accents on its Crystal White body, which the standard model does not have. If you remember, we actually first saw these styling details back in 2014 on the Concept XC Coupe, and it is finally being implemented on a production model. There are other novelties such as a new set of alloy wheels, while the seat upholstery gets a tailor-made stitching.
To give back, Volvo will donate 100 euros ($116) of the sales from each of the first 3,000 cars that will be assembled. That goes up to a total of 300,000 euros ($348,400). These funds will go to Volvo’s Ocean Race’s Science Program, which hopes to clean up ocean plastics. However, we do not know if the automaker will stop at making only 3,000 examples of the model.Read the entire article 2018 Volvo V90 Cross Country will take part in campaign against ocean pollution
Volvo’s stylish premium station wagon is heading to the market, and it doesn’t come cheap. As Swedish carmaker Volvo has indicated, its new Volvo V90 midsize wagon won’t be available through traditional means in the United States. This means that even if you go to the US dealer nearest your location, you won’t be able to simply come out of the showroom driving a 2017 Volvo V90 premium station wagon. This is because Volvo has decided not to stock the V90 stylish wagon in the US, as it has deep concerns over the low demand for regular wagons. Thus, if you want to get Volvo’s premium station wagon as your ride, you have to place a special order for the V90.
Good thing is that Volvo has launched an online configurator for its new products. This would allow interested customers to decide on the specs, features and elements of their new Volvo V90 without having to go their local dealers. Interestingly, the prices are also indicated, which means customers could also fit their Volvo V90 to their budget, giving them a clear idea how much money they need to shell out for their new premium station wagons.
The least expensive Volvo V90 – yes, this stylish wagon fetches a high price – could be availed for a base price of $49,950. When the destination fee of $995 is included, the total price surges to $50,945. Volvo has revealed that while its products are used by a number of police organizations around the world, it will be the Swedish police that will get the first chance to use the V90 as part of its fleet. Of course, it certainly doesn’t hurt that this model obtained the highest rating of the driving test conducted by the Swedish police, one of the most demanding there is.
Note that compared to standard vehicles running on the road, emergency vehicles have higher requirements. Sweden in particular has a strict policy for its police cars, pretty much the same way at a workplace. Thus cars to be used by the Swedish police have to meet numerous requirements as it relates to comfort, ergonomics, quality, and clearly, performance. Specifically, a potential police car must get high ratings in an obstacle course and brake test. It also has to rate well in terms of high-speed emergency driving as well as the evasive action test both without braking and with brakes.
With regards to the tests conducted, it was revealed that the Volvo V90 achieved an overall score of 9.2 out of a maximum of 10. This is considered as the highest rating there is for a model to have undergone the test.Read the entire article Sweden first to use Volvo V90 as police car
Despite the fact that Volvo has just recently launched the 90 Series models, specifically the S90, the V90, and the XC90, the brand is not stopping there as it has revealed that the models will be getting an upgrade.
The first is in terms of connectivity and while the models are already integrated with Apple CarPlay, they are now also compatible with Android Auto. The range will also include an update of the Over-The-Air navigation which allows the vehicle to have access to the latest maps.
Volvo will also be updating the powertrain with new Drive-E units that the brand says will bring in a good mix between drivability and fuel economy. The S90 for example will now have the 4-cylinder D3 diesel engine, allowing it to enjoy fuel economy of 4.3 1/100 km (54.7 mpg) and CO2 emissions of 114 g/km. This is true whether the engine is paired the automatic 6-speed transmission or the new manual 6-speed version.
