Silverstone Auctions is selling a 2014 VW XL1 plug-in hybrid with 79 miles on odometer

The limited-run Volkswagen XL1 plug-in hybrid coupe isn't your ordinary car. While it doesn’t have superb power or excellent handling, it does offer superior levels aerodynamics and fuel efficiency. Too bad, its production was very limited and there is no chance you can get a new XL1.

But in a twist of fate, an almost new VW XL1 is up for auction in the United Kingdom. According to Autoblog, Silverstone Auctions will be conducting the auction for the XL1 plug-in hybrid. In particular, the model to be auctioned is 2014 VW XL1. Yes, this plug-in hybrid model is already around four years old, it is practically new. After all, this super-aerodynamic coupe registered only 79 miles on the odometer.

This 2014 VW XL1 coupe is just one of the 30 examples sold by the German carmaker in the UK. Overall, VW only built 250 models, all of which were sold in Europe including in the UK. Thus, the auction is a great opportunity to purchase a rare model, and a fairly new one not the least.

The Love Bug’s Herbie and Giselle auctioned off for $86,250

Bonhams and Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will soon hold an auction in which Herbie and Co-star Giselle from 1977’s Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo are being offered. These iconic cars are part of the auction dubbed as the Treasures from the Dream Factory.

In the movie The Love Bug, Herbie is a white 1963 Vollkswagon Beetle that follows race car driver Jim Douglas (Dean Jones) from the showroom to his home. This film story gained such huge popularity that five more movies and two television shows were made by Disney on the anthromorphic car.

The large success story led the Herbie films to reach sales of a whopping $200 million at the box office at the time, equivalent to $725 million as per the recent currency. The Bonhams New York Herbie that was put up for sale on 23rd November was actually found in a Florida warehouse many years ago.

Silverstone Classic Sale to auction a 1962 Beetle 1200 De Luxe

What is possibly the best Volkswagen Beetle in the world would be placed under the hammer by Silverstone Auctions at its Silverstone Classic Sale on July 27, 2013. A 1962 Volkswagen Beetle 1200 De Luxe valued between £30,000 and £35,000 boasts of £55,000 worth of lavish and meticulous restoration.  In 2012, the 1962 Volkswagen Beetle 1200 De Luxe won the Meguiar’s NEC Classic Motorshow concourse in which it outclassed a restored Ferrari 250 SWB.

As the winner of the concourse, the car was invited to become the main entrance display at this year’s NEC show. The 1962 Volkswagen Beetle 1200 De Luxe also grabbed top honors at the 2012 Sandown Volksworld Show. The ‘Resto-Cal’-styled car was rescued from disrepair in 2009 by the current vendor, and it was decided to restore it without any limit.

First to undergo restoration is the car chassis. The car was stripped to its most basic parts before being rebuilt with a fabricated air suspension beam with air bag mounts, allowing the 1962 Volkswagen Beetle 1200 De Luxe to be lowered for the true ‘Resto-Cal’ look. Next to undergo restoration is the car’s bodywork, and it was decided to make it a 63’-based variant of a 57’ Fendered car.

Kate Middleton’s Vw Golf auctioned for almost $75,000

When eBay closed its bidding last Sunday for a Volkswagen Golf that had been owned by Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, the bids had reached nearly $75,000. In the last 10 days, five bidders were actively trying to top everyone else’s bids for the 10-year-old car. But about 10 minutes before the auction closed, a bid came in for 48,100 pounds (around $74,500 Canadian).

A brand new VW Golf has a price tag of about $24,000. Meanwhile, a 10-year-old Golf has a book value of about $5,700.

But then, the highest eBay bid still didn’t meet the hidden reserve bid and so, the car will stay in the owner’s garage. Sonny Brazil told the Newbury Today newspaper that at this point, the vehicle remains available but there’s now no rush to sell it right away.

German carmaker Volkswagen is now making the latest evolution of the new Volkswagen Golf GTI -- the new Golf GTI TCR. First unveiled as a concept at the annual GTI meeting in Worthersee, Austria, the new Golf GTI TCR is touted to be the most hardcore, most powerful and the fastest Golf GTI ever. Interested customers in Germany can now order the new Golf GTI TCR at a starting price of EUR38,950 (around $44,356) including VAT.

The new Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR is basically the street going version of the same-named racing car that won the international TCR racing series two times. It is powered by a version of the carmaker’s 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that is tuned to deliver up to 286 hp (213 kW) of max output. Power is sent to the wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission – the only option -- with a limited-slip front differential.

With this amount of power, the new Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR is capable of sprinting from nil to 62 miles per hour (100 km/h) in just 5.6 seconds, on its way to a limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). However, when a customer avails of a certain option (Vmax), the Golf GTI TCR can go as fast as 162 mph (260 km/h).

Volkswagen is introducing its smallest sports utility vehicle so far, this further expanding its SUV lineup. With the new and tiny Volkswagen T-Cross, the German carmaker is taking advantage of the continued growing demand for SUVs, whether large or small.

With a styling that makes it appear like a smaller brother of the Volkswagen T-Roc, the new VW T-Cross is underpinned by the A0 version of the VW Group’s MQB platform. This is the same platform that underpins other models in the VW Group such as the VW Polo and Audi A1 as well as the SEAT Ibiza and SEAT Arona crossover.

The compact nature of the new VW T-Cross is wrapped in its small dimensions. It boasts of a length of just 161.8 inches (4.11 meters), making nearly as long as the Nissan Juke small crossover. Inside, the new VW T-Cross can accommodate between 13.6 cubic feet (385 liters) to 16.07 cubic feet (455 liters) of cargo, depending on the position of the rear seats. These rear seats can slide 5.5 inches (14 cm), thereby increasing or reducing the available cargo space. When the rear seats are folded down, the cargo space offered by the VW T-Cross increases to 45.24 cubic feet (1,281 liters). An optional folding front passenger seat can be availed by customers who need more cargo room.

In June this year, rival carmakers Ford and Volkswagen inked a memorandum of agreement for a possible strategic alliance. Months after signing the MoU, automotive industry analysts are now floating the ideas of possible merger or an equity swap between the American and German companies. Nonetheless, Ford is quick enough to quash such ideas even before they get out of hand.

Under the signed MoU, Ford and VW are exploring a number of potential projects in several areas like the development of a range of commercial vehicles together. Likewise, a possible partnership would also work to better serve the evolving needs of customers. The parties have already made it clear back then that the potential alliance wouldn’t involve any equity arrangement.

However, The Detroit Bureau published an analysis that the potential alliance between Ford and VW might go beyond the commercial vehicle market, since doing so could be beneficial for both carmakers. For instance, Ford can benefit from VW’s robust presence not just in Europe, but also in Latin America and China. On the other hand, VW can take advantage of Ford’s strong fortified status in the United States, particular in the pickup and SUV segments.

German carmaker Volkswagen has just revealed the next generation of the VW Passat family sedan, but there is a twist. The all-new Passat that was just unveiled was created for the massive automotive market in China. Nonetheless, this Passat is an important model as might be able to provide a glimpse of how the next-gen sedan for the United States might look like when it finally arrives.

Nonetheless, it should be noted that while having the same name, the VW Passat bound for China is much different from the existing large sedan models in the United States and in Europe. The recently unveiled China-bound Passat sedan is undeniably influenced by the VW brand’s understated and simple design mantra. In fact, the front end of this China-bound Passat sedan seems to be adopted from the Arteon, especially the shape of its new grille.

The Arteon-like front grille of the China-bound VW Passat is flanked by elegant headlights that extend to the sides. When viewed from the sides, this Passat reveals a sleek profile with some liftback influences. While this Passat does have a sloped roofline, it is a traditional sedan featuring a small trunk opening.

Not a few motorists were enthralled when Volkswagen unveiled the ID Buzz Concept at the 2017 Detroit Motor Show. VW is putting the ID Buzz into production and make it available as early as 2022. Now, the German group, through Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, is now testing the waters for the possibility of offering a zero-emission transporter based on the ID Buzz.

The new ID Buzz Cargo is simply a progressive sibling for the ID Buzz. But instead of carrying people, the all-electric ID Buzz Cargo carries out the job as a commercial vehicle. VW unveiled and is currently displaying the ID Buzz Cargo concept at the 2018 IAA Commercial Vehicles in Hannover, Germany (September 20 to 27, 2018). Created as a supplementary model to the VW Transporter T6, the ID Buzz Cargo being presented in Hannover is already close to production, which may happen as early as 2021.

Just like the ID Buzz, the ID Buzz Cargo will be available in different battery sizes, according to the purpose and budget of the customer. Underpinned by the Modular Electric Drive Kit (MEB), the ID Buzz Cargo can be installed with batteries that allow all-electric ranges of between 330 km and over 500 km (as per WLTP). Battery capacities are pegged at between 48 kWh and 111 kWh.

Spending more than $40 million for a used 56-year old car is totally absurd. But it wouldn’t be weird at all if that car is a Ferrari 250 GTO that was driven by Phil Hill, the only American-born driver who has a Formula 1 crown. Just recently, a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO was sold at $48,405,000 at RM Sotheby’s auction sale in Monterey, California.

The auction started when the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO -- – with the chassis number 3413 GT -- was driven on the stage by Derek Bell, himself a legend for winning the Le Mans 24 Hours five times. The sale was conducted by auctioneer Maarten ten Holder, who started the bidding at $35 million. The bid price quickly jumped to $40 million, and then slowly climbed itself up -- with increments of $250,000. When the bid price reached $44 million, nobody dared to top the amount, and the hammer was banged.

Final bid price for the 3413 GTO was $44 million, but the addition of buyer’s fee and other taxes pushed the total price to $48.4 million. It was sold to a major car collector based in the United States. The seller was former chief software architect at Microsoft, Greg Whitten, who is also known for being a Ferrari enthusiast and vintage car driver. Whitten had been the owner of the 3413 GTO since 2000. He has shown it at a number of vintage motorsport events, including four GTO anniversary tours.

Soon, it will be end of the road for the people’s car from Germany – the Volkswagen Beetle – as the carmaker is due to end the production of the second generation in 2019. Sadly, VW has no plans to give the Beetle a direct successor. Nonetheless, it remains possible that the name “Beetle” would be resurrected as an all-new model distinct from its current two-door form.

A report from Autocar is saying that VW is considering creating a revolutionary new Beetle, one that has four doors and powered by an electric powertrain. The new Beetle could be presented as part of the army of emotional cars that VW plans to launch along its standard models.

The carmaker’s top honcho, Herbert Diess, is bent on introducing these new emotional cars, which will include the production version of the ID Buzz microbus that will be due on 2022. But before the ID Buzz, VW will be introducing the production versions of its volume electric vehicles like the ID hatchback and ID Crozz sports utility vehicle at the end of the decade (2020).

In 2017, actor and wrestling legend John Cena got in trouble when he purchased a brand new Ford GT, and then decided to sell it to another buyer. Because of this, Ford sued Cena for half a million dollars for violating the contract that stipulated that any Ford GT owner must not sell the unit within two years after purchasing it.

Cena decided to countersue Ford and this case is presently winding its way through court. Now, it seems like someone has not gotten the memo, as Motor Authority has noticed that a new Ford GT was put up at the Mercum auction block in Indianapolis this week. Of course, Ford had already begun investigating the situation.

Ford has revealed that they are aware of this and that they are looking into the situation. However, they will not comment on individual customer matters. Ford spokesman Matt Leaver pointed out that Ford GT customers come in to sign contracts, which include an agreement to not sell the car for at least two years.

As we get closer to the 2018 Paris Motor Show, the list of automakers that will attend the upcoming show is getting shorter. Volkswagen had just announced that they have decided to just skip the show that will take place in the City of Light, an event that takes place every other year. The Paris show alternates with the Frankfurt Motor Show. This news was revealed to us by France-based Autoactu.com. This was further confirmed by VW’s local French branch.

The German brand has doubts on whether it will be beneficial and relevant for them to attend international auto shows. But then, VW said that even if they will not attend the show in France, they will likely organize various actions like test drives in the city during the event. In addition, VW is analyzing prospects of organizing its own events for new car launches, which is something many automakers like Volvo have been practicing for quite some time now. One of the reasons for this could be because participating in these events could be very costly, and they don’t have as much reach compared to that of social media.

Despite the fact that VW will not attend the show, the group’s other brands, including the Skoda, SEAT, Audi and Porsche are said to make their way there. Right now, we do not have the complete details whether the Bentley and Bugatti marques will be there as well. The high end British marque from Crewe is said to work on a couple of new models such as the Continental GTC and the Flying Spur. We would not be surprised if such brands will participate and unveil new products.

Have you been thinking of getting yourself a hardcore Volkswagen Golf GTI? Well, if you have, you might want to hear this first - the track-only TCR version is going to receive a road-legal equivalent in the near future. Watch out for the Golf GTI TCR as it makes its debut on May 9 during the annual GTI meeting, which will be held at Worthersee. Without a surprise, this will be billed as a special edition model. Therefore, there is a good chance it will end up being a limited run hot hatch.

Right now, the only part of the car we could really see would be a section of the car’s rear end, and it is only through an appealing digital sketch that shows off the aggressive fins of the diffuser flanked by a pair of huge exhaust tips. By the looks of it, it seems like the Golf GTI TCR has full LED taillights and it rides on what seems like a set of 18 inch wheels.

Under the hood, you’ll find a turbocharged 2.0 liter gasoline engine dialed to carry out as much as 286 horsepower (213 kilowatts) from 6,800 rpm as well as a peak torque of 273 pound feet (370 Newton metres) that starts from 1,600 rpm. This engine will be paired to a seven speed dual clutch automatic gearbox offered as standard equipment, together with the front axle differential lock. Just to remind you, the track ready model is still a lot more powerful with 345 horsepower and 310 pound feet (420 Nm) of torque.

Any person you ask about a Volkswagen Beetle can probably distinguish it from a lineup, and that is because this car has been very popular worldwide and has been around for a very long time now. Well, one thing we also know about it is that the VW will not produce a new model anytime soon, and this is why German tuner ABT Sportsline is showing us that there still is life in the aging vehicle. You might think that is just a show car, but the special Beetle Convertible is actually a commission by a managing director of a medium sized company.

Let us first talk about the droptop vehicle’s exterior, as it features a bronze wrap with a slightly matte finish that is complemented with the black logos. It then sits on a set of 19 inch wheels with five sets of double spokes and what the firm refers to as a silver bullet finish.

Because the Beetle is quite an old model, we won’t expect it to have a super powerful engine. This is why Abt decided to install engine upgrades that pushes the 2.0 liter turbocharged four cylinder’s output to 286 horsepower (213 kilowatts) instead of the standard 217 horsepower (162 kilowatts). Along with the engine upgrade is a brake upgrade that includes six piston calipers and 14.57 inch (370 millimeter) rotors. The overall ride height has been lowered as well because of the new springs.

It was back in October last year when Volkswagen began teasing us about the fully electric Pikes Peak racer, and last month, they showed us fully revealing images of the model. Now finally, VW has opened up and is ready to talk about the model’s technical specs.

This zero-emissions race car carries two electric motors, that gives out a combined output of 680 horsepower (500 kilowatts) and a considerable amount of torque at 650 Newton metres (480 pound feet). These numbers are already impressive but wait until we tell you that the vehicle weighs under 1,100 kilograms (2,425 pounds). If you do the math, it’s easy to conclude that that this car can go quite fast.

According to VW, in only 2.25 seconds, the I.D. R Pikes Peak can accelerate to 69 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in as short as 2.25 seconds. Having said that, it even is faster than a Formula 1 and Formula E racers. Though we were not told yet about its maximum top speed, it really isn’t that crucial considering that acceleration will be significantly more important when tackling all 156 corners of the hill climb in Colorado Springs.

During the Frankfurt Motor Show last year, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles decided to tease European pickup truck enthusiasts with a more powerful version of the V6 Amarok that’s dressed in a striking Turmeric Yellow Metallic. This model is called the Aventura Exclusive Concept, and now has a direct road going rival in the shape of a new range topping version of the luxury workhorse.

Today, the strongest Amarok is packed with 221 horsepower (165 kilowatts) and 406 pound feet (550 Newton metres) of torque. All these come from the 3.0 liter TDI V6 engine. This version has a little more power at 255 horsepower (190 kilowatts) and 428 pound feet (580 Newton meters) of torque. This stands for as much as 34 horsepower improvement of 34 Hp and 22 pound feet (30 Nm) of torque.

That is not all though, because it will be equipped with an overboost function that will temporarily increase the current output of the vehicle by an extra 13 horsepower, totaling up to 268 hp (200 kw). Having said that, this engine is paired to a 4Motion all-wheel drive system through a standard eight speed automatic transmission. The maximum torque is rated at a low 1,400 rpm, whereas the full version is available from 3,250 rpm.
